Arts and crafts

probably a very naive question BUT can dressmakers etc copy clothes from photos?

Keep seeing lots of nice clothes I like on the internet but am overseas and can't get hold of them or get them delivered. There are lots of dressmakers/tailors/seamstresses in town here but haven't used any of them so far. There's also lots of nice fabrics available. Do you clever and talented sewing people think that if I showed them a photo of something I want (provided it isn't too complex) that they would be able to copy it? Or would they really need the pattern?
Thanks!

Yes, my dressmaker made my bridesmaid dresses from a photograph.

Yes. One of my best pals is a dressmaker. She can do this, particularly if there are photos of the way the seams, darts and closures (zips, buttons, ties) of the garment.

The really really whizzy ones can do replicas of Oscar dresses, wedding dresses etc overnight.

I saw it on This Morning

hi- my mum is a professional dressmaker and has been for 30 years. She never mastered the art of copying from a photo BUT she would buy the item, take the pattern from that and then send it back (for a full refund!!!)
hope that helps - you could get them to try from a photo tho xx

Wehey! Really glad that's possible
Can foresee a fabuloso new wardrobe being developed if I find a good seamstress....
Have given up looking at clothes in local shops since they are seemingly all aimed at size 6 eastern european skinny things that make me look like a heifer, being size 12/14.
