clown costume

I am making a clown costume for my DS5
I got most of it sorted, but I am a bit stuck with the shoes. I have a pair of boots that I can costumise with the vamp/top piece of an old croc with laces, but basically I need something to make the (very big) front part.

I do not want to use paper-mache, it has to be something that I can sew or glue to the other part.

Any ideas?!

Foam. Sculpt it, then glue it to the boot...spray paint it all one colour as well as the boots.
