Can anybody answer a crochet question for me please?

I have been teaching myself to crochet using a 1970s booklet my grandmother lent me. The double crochet in there seems to be the same as single crochet which I have just seen on an American website. I don't know if the terms have changed or if they differ between UK and US.....can anybody clarify? Thanks

Yes, the terms are different in the US. single there is double here, double there is treble hear, treble there is double treble here!

here's a good conversion chart for all sorts of things knitting and crochet guild conversion charts page

many of the more modern books have good conversion stuff too - I would happily recommend 'The happy hooker' - simply for the title!
