I have an old comfy armchair that I want to renovate. It's like an Ikea Ektorp style but their covers would be too small. I'm not wanting to pick the covers apart and make new ones as that'd be a long job and I want the armchair for a sewing room/study so it doesn't have to be perfect.
I've got lots of cotton but no upholstry weight fabric, so I thought of appliqueing square/oblong pieces over the exisiting loose covers in a patchwork style. To make sure they sit flat, I'd put on rows of stitching like quilting.
Anyone done this? Any obvious pitfalls please?

Loose cover renovation. Does this sound like a daft idea?
