Hi, new to A & C board. Was wondering if anyone else had had any probs with Debbie Bliss baby patterns. I really like the pictures of the garments, buy my Mum makes a lot of things from her books for DD, and they seem to come up really big across the back. I've made a v simple cardi and it was fine. Also my Mum got an expert knitter friend to make a fairisle cardi for DD from a Debbie Bliss pattern and it is peculiar to say the least!!
Any tips for another baby/ young child knitting pattern range or book?

I definitely agree her stuff is way too boxy . I tend to fiddle with her patterns - make them in a smaller size AND add an inch on the bottom to readjust.
Try some of the Rowan patterns, or maybe one of the Jaeger books.
If you can get them, the Rowan Babies and Pipsqueaks paperbacks are fab. I have knitted loads for my two from there. I think they are out of print but try on abebooks!

I'd also check out her website as she lists pattern corrections (indeed, I do searches on most authors of books I own BEFORE I start a pattern to make doubly sure there's not been a misprint - it does happen).

I've had loads of problems with Debbie Bliss patterns, some of the things I've had to work out for myself. I've also found them way too large across the back. Weird

I'm a very new knitter and was seduced by the gorgeous artwork in Erica Knight's 'simple knits for cherished babies' there's some really beautiful garments that really are easy enough for a beginner, unfortunately sizes only go up to 9 months but some really nice stuff for gifts too. The only Debbie Bliss pattern I've tried was for booties and they're great, really easy, quick and very admired!
