got some lovely big beads, want to make a necklace - advice please

dh bought some lovely expensive beads for a project he was working on and some 'accidently' found themselves at our house. I'd like to make my dm a necklace for her upcomming birthday. They are large beads, so was thinking of using leather to string them onto, but don't really know where to start. Does anyone know of any websites that may be able to help or give inspiration?
