Improving curtains - add interlining or hang extra lining?

OK, so I have hung my ebay bargain curtains and they are lovely but look a bit thin and not full. They are the right size - 90 x 90 but ready made are never as full as home made, ime.

What's my best bet - sew in interlining? Will it leave a lumpy line below the header? Or make and hang extra linings behind them?

Tricky one. If you have the skills could you unpick the heading tape and insert a lining under that or even interlining and lining before sewing it all back together.

I've added linings to other curtains just by sewing below the header tape. I've just used blackout though so no extra hemming and therefore no bulk.

Be warned though - if the window gets a lot of light you can see light coming through the gap between the header and the extra lining when the curtains are closed. You would get a much better job by unpicking the header tape and sewing the linings into the top properly.

Hanging extra linings separately will help with the look but sewn in ones will make it look fuller.

Do you have the skills to unpick the curtains and remake them with linings?

I've done this before to add blackout - it isn't hard but does involve unpicking both side seams and the header tape - normally the curtains and linings are hemmed separately at the bottom so that is one lot of stitching you might avoid altering….
