Newbie knitting question!

I am sure there is a technical term for this, but I don't know what it is and what to do next....

I'm knitting rows of 40 stitches.

Now I only have 39 stitches on my needle.

What do I do? How do I sort it?

If you lay your knitting flat and smooth it out can you see where you've dropped a stitch? is a ladder forming?

if so you should be able to pick the loop up and with a crochet hook or small knitting needle work it back up the rows then knit your next row and put the stitch back on the main needle.

Thanks! sorted. So that's what dropping a stitch means? I've heard of it, but wasn't sure what it was.

Yes, dropping a stitch is just letting it slip off your needle and not noticing. Until several inches have passed. Or hours, possibly.

You must be getting better CCR if you have enough knitting done to drop a stitch. Well done!!
