Stupid question about dk wool

Thanks all! I did a pattern that was ising two strands together the other day so assumed this was double knitting, thanks for the correction though, much appreciatedgrin

rather confusingly the technique of double knitting is entirely separate (it isn't holding two strands together either!) - but don't worry about that until you want to

however, as others have said, DK wool is just the weight. definitely not a stupid question!

Not a stupid question at all, just one that is easily answered.

You can use two strands if you want to knit to a heavier weight pattern ie you have an aran pattern, but only DK yarn. DK just refers to the weight of the yarn, not what you do with it.

No. Just one strand, always.

When using dk should you always double knit (ie use two strands at once)? Moving onto more complex projects now and am a bit confused as the pattern doesn't overly state.
