Amigurumi?

Has anyone had a go at crocheting amigurumi figures? I'd like to try but got stuck as the instructions said to sc 6 stitches into the first chain, and it didn't work,am I doing it all wrong? I tried to always go back to the first chain and do one sc but after about stitch 4 it is just a jumble. Lots more practice required I think!

I have tried both but I use the sc in first chain method, are you using the correct hook and yarn
I also do a spiral because I dont like the join of doing rows so I count my stitches or use a marker

Thanks all, I will try and get the hang of doing a magicloop but would also like to crack sc in first chain. I am using the right hook and yarn, did you find it tricky at first roadwalker?

I love making amigarumis! :) I usually do the chain 2 than x6 sc in the first chain too, I did find it tricky at first because you're working so small, but once you get going you'll be fine, just keep practicing

I always work in a spiral and mark the last stitch of a row with a small safety pin, I find it much neater than joining rows with a slip stitch

You could try with a thicker yarn and bigger hook just to practice how it should go, and then go back to what you've been using

I is easier if you have a silky yarn that doesn't split easily
If it is fluffy its hard to see the stitches
Keep is loose too, you can pull the tail after to tighten it all up
