Nned a ladybird costume for dd's nursery play

DD(3) is going to be a lady bird in the summer play. Any ideas about how to make the costume without it being too restricting? I don't want to get into masses of sewing or papier mache, so was hoping to work out a good paper / card construction.

Ds1 has a beach towel which is like a ladybird. We got it from John Lewis' last year. Maybe they're still doing them. It is very very cute.

Red t-shirt. Either make some lady bird wings or put black spots on the t-shirt.

When DS was a ladybird I dressed him in red shorts and a red t-shirt and sewed black felt circles onto the shirt. I then got some long thick black pipe cleaners and attached them to a black alice band with the ends curled up to make feelers. And felt is good because no hemming. Suppose if you are totally anti sewing you could glue felt on with fabric glue.

Two ovals of card, attach ribbons to go over her shoulders and under her arms.Paint front black, back red with spots etc.
Attach black pipe cleaners with pom poms on the end to an old alice band.
TA-DAH!

These are brilliant, thanks! Will probably go for the sticking card / felt options as my sewing machine is currently under a pile of stuff (I was trying to declutter and it all went horribly wrong) and I can't face getting it out.

Right, will be off next week to find black alice band and pipe cleaners.

was going to suggest something v like sugarfree, but really no need for oval of card on front - just wear black top and bottoms (long or short as you like) and wear the red oval of card with the dots like a rucksack.
And antenna headband of course. Buy one (Woolies, Claire's) if you can't be bothered to make one.

you might have sorted this already but I made a ladybird for ds1 last year and I have no skills at all in this area!
I made a tabard for him just from a long piece of red material with a hole cut out for the head. I edged the tabard and the neck with the iron-on hemming so no need to sew, used a marker pen to draw a black line down the middle and then glued black spots on. He had a big black alice band and I twisted black pipe cleaners on and had red bobbles at the end.
