where is the best place to buy yarn in bulk?

I have decided to knit a bedspread in afghan squares. Yes I know, i will be an old and wrinkly lady by the time it is finished. Let alone knitting the border to go round it....

Anyhow - I have had a trial run on a smaller blanket and it went well. however i didn't get all the wool in one go and ended up buying different dye batches. Fortunately it all blended in, however if I am knitting something this big I feel I need to plan ahead and at least try and buy the main colour all at once.

I am in Yorkshire so am within striking distance of mill shops. However are there any on line shops that will sell yarn on the cone or in hanks rather than in balls?

I don't need anything exotic, just standard DK yarn in white.

Thanks in anticipation

have you had a look at Silver Viscount online? they do cones for machine knitting but they are fine for hand knitting as well.

If you ever feel like a day trip there is a lovely wool warehouse in warrington called Black Sheep. It even has its own tea room!
Aberkhans is very good for wool to. I quite often get big 800g balls of baby double knitting there for under a tenner (they come in white as well). They have branches all over the north and they are online to Smile

gosh that was quick!

I will have a look on line and may have to venture out if there is a "class act" tea room involved. i will travel a fair distance for good tea and cake (and yarn).

Thank you to you both, much appreciated.
