I want to knit a plain round neck jumper but I can't seem to find one anywhere, I've looked on Ravelry but I think that I'm searching for the wrong thing because I can only find fancy patterns with lace and all that jazz, I just want a plain jumper! What should I be searching for?

Okay this should be a search on:

  • pullover
  • crew neck (possibly not the right name but you can have a play with the filter)
  • female
  • adult
  • free
  • with photo

Search

How about Brick?

Or Long top in stockinette

or Tunic.

Cheating slightly by going to the Sirdar site (for paid-for patterns, although obv you can just remove that filter in Rav to see all paid-for patterns) 9663, 9385, and an absolutely plain round neck sweater in Crofter.

tribpot you are a Ravelry genius! The brick pattern is exactly what I was looking for I shall go and download it straight away, why I couldn't find that I don't know. Thank you!

It might have been doing the Design elements > Neck > Crew neck bit. I never normally bother being so specific!

I have to say, I would find that rather tedious to knit - acres of stocking stitch - I would just buy one if that was what I was looking for Grin (knitting heresy?)

I want a chocolate brown jumper but that colour doesn't appear to be very 'in' at the minute. I don't mind the tediousness of it sometimes you just need something boring to keep your hands busy whilst watching crappy tv so I thank you!

No worries. The exact yarn of the pattern is not very easy to find in the UK (Brooklyn Tweed Shelter but there are plenty of aran or chunky alternatives - here's a search on brown aran on Deramores for a few ideas :) Depending on your budget I like the Debbie Bliss ones. The Fyberspates is nice to knit with but not sure I'd do a whole jumper in it (bit snaggy) and at the other end of the scale, the Sirdar Hayfield Bonus is not bad, although I'm not sure you'd want it next to your skin (which a jumper probably wouldn't be, much at least).
