Our project launch thread can be found here
This is an ongoing project. Thanks to the amazing efforts of crafters and donors, to date we have received 38 wonderful Little Hugs. Our first batch have been sent to Yorkhill Hospital today
Photographs of our Little Hugs can be found on our Woolly Hugs website and on our Facebook page, MNWoollyHugs.
The basic aim is to provide little blankets and quilts that give comfort to babies and small children who are seriously ill in hospital.
This is the continuation of Phase 1 of the project.
We are developing contacts for future phases.
How you can get involved:
You can help by either making a complete Little Hug
Or
By making 6" squares using Stylecraft Special DK yarn or Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK, Rowan Cashsoft DK and Sublime Extra Fine Merino wool DK
For all of the Little Hugs:
Minimum size: 18 inches by 18 inches
For example, that's 3x3 6 inch squares with a small edge.
If you would like to make a blanket or quilt that is bigger, that would be lovely too.
Colours: Your choice!
We'd like to be able to provide a range of Little Hugs suitable for boys and girls.
If you would like to make something specifically for a boy or girl, that would also be lovely.
Things to avoid:
Buttons
Sequins and beads
Any embellishments that could scratch delicate skin or could be swallowed.
If using applique, it needs to be firmly stitched on with no hard edges.
Materials and ideas:
Woolly Blankets:
Suggested yarn: Stylecraft Special DK, a soft, non-scratchy acrylic that is a very reasonable £1.60 - £2 for 100g ball.
Pure cotton DK
If you would like to make a whole blanket, you could use a different weight yarn and a yarn other than those above. The essential thing is that it needs to be soft against sensitive and delicate skin and that it can be machine washed.
Ideas:
Blankets could be made from squares stitched or hooked together
Granny stripes or ripples
They could be made in one piece or in blocks, as well as squares
Quilts and stitched blankets:
Pure cotton and good quality fleece. The cotton can be from recycled sources.
We suggest that you wash both separately before sewing to allow for any difference in shrinkage.
Ideas:
Traditional style quilts, from simple square designs to more complex patterns
Cotton edged fleeces, with or without appliqué
Quilt and fleece combination: quilted front with a fleece back
Donors:
If you would like to contribute towards materials, you can either donate via Paypal here on our Woolly Hugs website with a message letting us know which project you are donating to. If you do not have Paypal, please PM RatherBeOnThePiste as we have other ways that you can donate.
Without our donors, our projects really wouldn't happen. You are as vital to them as the crafters and materials. Bless you.
If you would like to take part in this project but feel you can't due to the costs involved, please PM Pistey and we'll try to help with materials.
As ever, thanks for your support

Morning
Afternoon
That should be a [wine, please, WINE] emoticon - DS has a friend over (both almost 5) and they're alternately best friends and then fighting.
ah, the joys of children, DC3 and 4 are constantly fighting and making up with their best friends who are also siblings. Drives me mad!
quick question, in addition to the various blanket projects I'm juggling I'm knitting blankets for DC3 and 4. DC4 now wants red in his blanket which was originally going to be various shades of blue. I've had a look at the DB red ones and wonder if anyone has any experience of shades 004 and 014? I want a really bright red but its hard to tell looking at them online.
Morning fellow hookers
I bought a Addi Swing Crochet Hook 4.50mm and I'm just not getting on with it. I've chucked the packaging so can't send it back so it's free to a good home - first person to PM me who wants it can have it
Would you send it to Canada if I pay the postage, Woolfey? I'd quite like to try it.
Morning, by the way.
(Morning here.) It's DS's party today so I think some morning
is in order!
Jacks - just PM'd you. Glad it will go to a new home
I have just started a second Little Hug
BTW, this thread is on 960 posts... You may want to start another early before it fills up. Unless this is a special everlasting thread.
Have you thought of campaigning for a dedicated Wooly Hug topic?
Ah, good thinking Soupy. Will get a new thread sorted v soon.
As if they'd trust us with our own topic
It's as if they know that world domination is on our To Do list.
Morning all (checks watch).
I was mooching around local Hobby Craft on Friday and stumbled across a lovely book called "Knitting Block by Block" by Nicky Epstein (picture on my profile) there were some amazing patterns in there, really original stuff. Think I may need to save up for a copy.
MOSagain - I've used both 04 and 014 in a blanket for DS2. Both are really nice colours and go with other DB colours.
My little hug is done, just lots of peskies to sew in
Thanks Neithershredded have gone for 004 as it looked a bit brighter.
One day I will learn how to sew in peskies. Feel so guilty that poor Pistey is lumbered with them. she gets my boring old squares and turns them into something wonderful.
Right! I have sort of finished my Little Hug. It is garter stitch with mitred corners and nowhere near as good as the ones I've seen so far but I am rather pleased with it!!
But I don't know if it needs a border and as I can't crochet I don't know what to do!
It's sort of like this
www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ten-stitch-blanket
What do you lot think????
PiggyPlum, that looks really pretty
I've got a pile of squares that I will need to post soon
Really pretty Piggy and looks bloomin complicated!
It was really easy, but does it need a border??? I think because it's garter stitch I can get away with it.....
I'Ve done a mini version of that blanket piggy. I did an icord border round it, but it doesn't really need one.
Can you post a pic of yours?
Piggy, lovely pattern. I don't think it does need a border, although I'm only going on the pattern on Ravelry!
I'm sure yours is lovely as it is.
Woohoo have uploaded a picture!!
DH says it should be bigger so am going to go round once. Have started on an Angel Hug and am really enjoying my knitting again.
