Blanket for My5boysandme - support for knitters

All our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of baby Dexter, and most particularly with his mum, My5boysandme.

The chat thread has given details of the yarns and pointed to the Crafters' Guide. I will check back to our last support thread for any newer patterns that haven't yet made it up there.

Please stop by if there is any help you need with your square - the crocheters are regular guest stars as well (it's a bit like NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles).

Well I am regularly confused with Daniela Ruah aka the unfeasibly good-looking Kensi Blye. Grin She also guest stars in Hawaii 5-0 so what's not to like?

Hi all, I'm having a brain freeze moment and I can't phrase the words correctly to get the Internet to tell me what I want (see what I mean, I can't even string a sentence together Blush) I'm doing an initial for little Dexters blanket and want to do the initial in a contrasting colour. I'm fairly new to knitting and can do the basics. Can someone point me in the right direction please? My brain seems to have annoyingly turned to mush atm Hmm

Tia

If you are new to it Birnamwood, can I suggest you do the letter in a contrasting stitch rather than a different colour? It will be much easier for you.

Eg background in moss st, letter in stocking stitch. Or stocking stitch square with garter border, and garter for the letter? It will still show up but just as a different texture rather than different colour?

It would be Intarsia if you want to stick to the different colours plan Smile

It would be intarsia if Birnamwood wanted separate balls of colour for each side of the initial, but likely you could do it fairisle stylee (carrying the unused yarn across the back) given the likely width of the initial.

However, I would strongly agree that doing it in a contrasting stitch would be a lot more manageable. Or even do a plain square and then embroider on in a different colour afterwards?

Intarsia is scary! This is a really easy letter square. www.knittingknonsense.com/d_cloth.html I've just done one for a friend for Christmas!

Signing in for support, I'll probably be receiving rather that offering!

Even the word 'intarsia' frits me.

That's weird MOS Confused Don't take it personally, I'll PM you all the stuff, but yes greens, blues, silvers, dark/warm purple and cream.

If choosing cream, we ask that you go for the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013

Thanks lovely X

Birnamwood, if you fancy a go at something in two colours, why not try summat a bit easier to manage, like the pink flash pattern (I think Glaikit has a picture of it, but it's basically a series of zig-zags on a different coloured background)

Or how about checker square? Two colour linen stitch? I love linen stitch but it will need a border in garter stitch.

Thanks for the links Trib, I'm having a go at the flash one now. We'll see how it goes...

Glaikit, when I automatically clicked on your link, my conscious brain knew it was to do with knitting, my unconscious brain, however, was hoping for a picture of a flasher in the 2/100ths of a second it took to load the page. I've not got a dirty mind, promise not :)
