I have to make an egg for Firday, not just any egg, oh no-a huge pretend chocolate egg. Now I admit I'm stumped. All I need is one of those plastic eggs, could be one that splits into two, but I need to paint it etc. I have spent two hours on google, every Easter craft site and I'm fed up now. I KNOW I'm going to have to make a papier mache thingy, but it's time consuming because, if I'm right, you can only do one layer a day and let it dry? How many layers should I do to make it reasonably child proof/solid and has any else any ideas (or would like to make me one!Grin)I know I should have done it before, but I'm really busy teaching and being a mum and it's doing my head in! Help me please?Smile

think you can do more than one layer a day and if you use pva and water it will be stronger.
Can you get someone to make you a net frame?

you can do lots of layes at atime, but you have to let it dry before you can paint it It will take 2-3 days to dry in the airing cupboard with about 4 or 5 layers depending on how generous you have been with the paste

we just carry on with papier mache till it's fat enough. PVA dries quickest I think. My dd's attention span wouldn't stretch to something with lots of phases.

how big does it have to be? my sil makes papier mache egg shapes round balloons to wrap presents in. (dontcha just hate people like that?)

Some chocolate eggs come in plastic protectors, 1 layer of paper and they'd do a treat. Have a close look at a few in your supermarket.
