Hi! How lovely to make your own invitations. 250g is ok for cards, although I think at least 280 is better. It means that the card weighs 250g per square metre (I think).

There are loads of good sites. Do you have any craft shops locally? If so, go in and look at their ribbon and stamp selection first, to get an idea of colours etc. It is always nicer to touch the things and colour match them to each other. It is fine buying on-line if you know what you are looking for.

Ideal.co.uk (I like this site, have recommended them on loads of threads!) sell packs of card blanks and envelopes. You can buy 100 at a time. Their stuff is good value.

PDA cards & craft for the card & envelopes. Orders over 40.00 are free delivery. 250gsm is the weight of the card per sq metre. The more gsms, the thicker/better quality the card. 220gsm is good for small A6 (1/4 of A4) sized cards, 250gsm & above is ok for A5 (1/2 of A4) sized cards. I buy my ribbon from the market, it's tons cheaper than hobbycraft/John Lewis etc. Depending on how you want to word the front of your cards. I am currently using peel offs on some I am making. These are cheap on Ebay. If you are looking for shapes to put on the front, ie champagne flutes, wedding cakes, ask anyone on here if they will do you some cuts. HTH Smile

If you wouldlike some embossed panels (you choose the shape) saying wedding invitation, or your names or whatever, I can do that for you, just let me know. Won't cost me as I use stencils so wouldn't charge. It looks best I think on metallic or pearlescent.

(dry embossed btw- where it looks as if it has been pushed out from behind)

If you don't know panel size, i'll do 4 to an A4 sheet, then you can trim as you wish or use as a backing.

peachclaire that really is so kind of you. I have come up with a few ideas since the snot has cleared, and was wondering if you would give an objective opinion if I e mailed them to you?

the other thing I was wondering washow easy is it to embelish vellum type paper?

Yes of course I would give you an opinion.

vellum- looks good and can be nice but sticking can be an issue: water based glues warp it and most glues show through. there's a tape they sell in Wilkinson (ultratep double sided, the one with no peel off paper) that does the job, otherwise use brads, sticky embellishments (eg sticky ribbon) or similar. Vellum glues exist by mym, are they expensive!

A little bit of vellum is a nice youch though, for example I did a velntines card that was simply two white mulberry paper doves arrying a pretty vellum envelope with a heart punchie inside. You can buy those envelopes ready cut, too.
