Anyone know of any online patterns?

Not online, no. I have a pattern I bought last year. Haven't tried it out yet. It wouldn't involve that much 'tailoring' I'm sure... perhaps I could scan the instructions sheet and send it to you, and you could cobble something together from that? what are your engineering skills like?!

Oooh, spots...that would be great. Would you mind? I'd really appreciate it.

I'm sure they're pretty easy - I mean, they're basically a sack, aren't they? I 've never actualy sewn anything (I'm a knitter really) and I can't work out how to get ut to work.

If you could that would be fantastic. My address is filyjonk at (ie @) hotmail.com.

Let me know if I can help out with knitting patterns or similar.

I agree they ought to be just a sack... have to say, the one I have the pattern for looks rather over complicated but Filyjonk I am quite happy to email it to you as an experiment! If you have knitting experience I'm sure you'll know the basics of joining everything together. I am a sewer and always think knitting looks a lot more complicated.

Getting the zip in is always the annoying bit.

someone i know made one and just used velcro... you could even just velcro one side instead of all the way round to make it even easier!

Hum. Just scanned the stuff and tried to send it, but I think because the paper it's printed on is cream coloured it was a massive file and 'encountered delivery problems'. Not sure if this is my mailbox or yours but I have had this prob before with big files. How annoying. I coud try photocopying the sheet and scanning that. it would have less visual info that way. Or if you wanted to CAT me your postal address could send you hard copy.

seems I am mad keen for you to make that damn' cosytoes... but you see I often find myself in exactly same position as you! hence ownership of pattern, which I really must get round to myself...

yes you could use velcro absolutely, though the position it's in might be annoying re. catching on clothes if they're wearing fleecy trousers, etc. Big fat toggles might be nice too, and fun for wee fingers to fiddle with.

my dts have cosy toes for their carseats which were joined with velcro. it did get rather fluffy at times, but it was nice and easy. i think I would stick to a zip tho, otherwise velcro could be kicked open by an older child. I had a lovely cosytoes from mothercare that had all soft toys on it, you could even do something like that, squeakers and stuff with felt shapes.

Hi Spots:

Thanks for all the trying to get it too me. I really would love to have a go!

Right, my problem is that I can't set up CAT as I lack cards right now (just become SAHM...also a student...etc etc). Do you think you could mail me your email address at the hotmail one and I'll mail you back my rl address? I'll mail it from my ntl account which might accept the attatchment anyway.

Let me know costs for postage/copying/anything else + I'll get a cheque to you, or can do Paypal ? (let me know fees).

Am so looking forward to doing this! I have a nice fleecy spotty blanket which I think I'll use. If I had a bit longer I might have converted it to a knitting pattern...

My only problem is that I've never put a zip in anything. Is it hard?

Will do that, no prob.

Putting a zip in is not really hard; if you take the long way round and hand stitch it loosely in place before machining it things are a lot easier. It's just very easy to do it badly if you rush. quite often I do rush.

Zips - loosely sew the seam to be zipped with a long stitch, don't reverse at the beginning or end. Lay the zip face down along the wrong side of the seam and pin - take your time so it's straight. Sew all the way alongside the teeth. Unpick the long stitches.

I made a cosytoes for dd and it was gorgeous, the only thing thought is that my sewing machine hated sewing all the fluff. Just make sure you give it a good clean out when you have finished.

OK filyjonk! It seems to be your address that's causing me the problem! A simple text email just bounced back. I am using filyjonk at hotmail dot com. Is that wrong?

There is a shop near me that sells fleece 'cozytoes' for 60.00. It's a company that started to make them in different colours, like Zebras/Strawberrys/Cars. When I saw them I thought I can make that. All They do is stitch two peices together, turn them inside out, and then stich them along side, with embroidery thread to make a cozy toes. Very simple but charging 60 quid

£60?

Wow. Fleece isn't that expensive, is it?

I think when I made mine it came to about £20- £25 including the pattern.

Great. I hope I didn't just do what I think I did and go back to my mail inbox rather than click 'send'... can you confirm you received 2nd installment, or not?

Will be out tonight, check in tomorrow.

Yay, got 2nd installment. I've been looking at them (sideways!) and can kind of see how it all fits together. Dh is actually very excited too, not sure why as the most he's ever made is a felt teddy, but I think it calls for technical drawing type skills, so pleases him.

Do you think you could send the next one to the ntlworld account?

Oh and a question-whats basting? Is it like tacking?

Hooray! That was actually the last installment, so you have the complete set now. Yes, basting is just tacking. Think I will be making one up here next weekend so we can compare notes on the pattern! Have fun!

(LOL at your DH making felt teddy with is technical drawing skills...)

Well I'm a bit relieved that you're planning to make one too. I'm going to print out everything now and try to get my head round it. I did think of maybe making a mini one for ds's dolls pram, just to see how it all fitted together.

I'm really excited here though. I've always wanted to learn to follow patterns but just don't have the spatial rotation type skills.

Dh is so funny with anything like that. When he makes cakes he does it completely scientifically, measures everything to the last gram, measures out the cake tin, uses his phd in maths to calculate the radius or whatever it is.

And they always taste fantastic too. Bah!
