Hi there! I am looking for a knitted owl pattern that looks a bit realistic and it's knitted on 2 straight needles. I have already checked Ravelry, Knitty, Pinterest and Kitting Central but no luck so far. Happy to pay for the right pattern! Thanks so much!

If you wanted it to be more realistic, you could change the yarn colours perhaps?

Wolly this is a sweet pattern but really not at all what I'm after. I have found this one but I cannot see if it's knitted on straight needles without buying it: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mr-barn-owl
If you follow the Ravelry link to the site that hosts the pattern, there's an email address you could use to contact them to ask? Lovely pattern!

Oh, really not sure about that one Pudden! You like it?!
didn't say I liked it but it's cheaper <frugal bosom hoik>
actually having had another look it appears to have a serious case of moult and also looks like it would go for your throat in the night!
Oh, that is a much nicer pattern! I love the Frankie Brown stuff on Ravelry, just done this little purse, which introduced me to my new favourite stitch, fabric (or linen) stitch.

Pudden those little owls are absolutely lovely to knit, I made 25 last summer for the school fair and they all sold within 30 minutes!! I used two buttons of different size and colours overlapping each other for each eye though, otherwise I found it too fiddly and time consuming. Again, too 'toy-ish' for my current project though!
Blimey - so I might actually get to make something for the summer fair this year, instead of my usual raid on Asda for whatever crap stuff I think I can get away with. I am the mum who turns up with the mini-muffins straight off the bakery counter - so this could be a change in fortunes indeed

Tribpot, don't promise anything just yet though, it takes about 3 hours to complete just one owl from beginning to end, so times that 25...
Bloody hell - I'd need some of Mrs Weasley's self-knitting needles I think!
(I didn't actually plan to make one for each member of the class, mind you - they normally have a 'bring summat to sell' thing with a theme for the summer fair).
