well...mum went crazy and made me 12 knitted tree decorations to go on cards for the school bazaar on 2/12/05....and my husband's boss has ordered 7 'special...wordy...very personal...family' type cards...so not 5minute cards....sat for 4 hours the other night playing with words and verses on the internet...trying to get what she wants (however tis worth it as she is paying me £4 for each card...)....
and then due to the fact that my cards take so long i 'forced' myself to make 'quick cards' the other night...but d'you know...i didn't have funn...i didn't like anything i made.....so i have at least decided that i will just carry on as i am....spending spare minutes throughout the day gradually making a card...in between houswork...school...shopping etc.....and if it means my cards take 5 hours each...but i love every minute,....then that's better than how i felt the other night!!!!

300 JM!!!!!

no...that is deffo out of my league!!!!

what i have decided to do for NEXT christmas...is make say 20 cards at a time ...with no words etc.... and then have a file with greetings/verses etc...so the person selects the card they like...the words they like...and who it's for...what it's for etc...and then i make them it.

that way i won't be scouring the internet trying to find suitable verses etc...and it will just a case of finding the verse on my cd i am making ...and print it off.

today...i made a card that initially took 5 hours the first time...but today took 40 mins...cos i had the verse...had the snowflakes(i bought 50 3" layered sizzix type ones off ebay for £4 incl postage...already had 20 from her b4.....absolutely stunning now i've painted them with dimensional 'diamond' glitter paint!)
ed the backing paper already...so all i had to do was assemble it...took 20 mins to make it..had to let it dry...then spent another 20 mins finishing it later....now to make a box

...and then i'm letting alex have all my quickie cards to give to his school friends....so the way i see it is i get to practise techniques...time myself...see what i like/hate doing...and the kids love them...just not my cup of tea...but you know kids...cover it in glitter...and they love it!!

Has anyone else found that this has become a bit of a chore. I went MAD making cards and did a sale, as you all know. TBH I had mates coming round cutting felt into shapes and all. It wasn't being creative. It was a factory line. I (maybe I'm depressed) really have lost it a bit now. I don't feel in the least bit creative since. Still havent' come on so God knows whats up. And before you ask. Deffinitely not. You have to... you know before that happens

I have been making cards for Christmas since July and still had the last minute panic.
Cards are all made now and sitting in the display stands ready to be loaded into the car.
I know what you mean about it being a chore but I still would rather be making cards than cleaning the oven

Ive made so many because Ive been lucky enough to get a stall in our local pannier market for the last week leading upto Christmas...loads of passing trade. I dont expect to sell that many but will spend my days handing out cards with my details on.
I havent had to pay for the stall because its a new business inititative that the local coucil were runnig and my mate was lucky enough to get a stall....Im hogging a part of her stall for the last week and helping her out

Good luck Whizz with your stall...Im sure you'll sell loads.

Oh good luck with the market JayzMum. Once I am back from my drunken jaunt I am going to try to get orgainised and do our local sunday market on the run up to Christmas.

I did a Stocking Filler party tonight and the average spend was £20 per person. They all seemed suprised at the stock I has and the prices. I think they were expecting tatt. Didn't tell them I was up for hours printing all theorder forms and catalogoue they were happily putting their glasses on. Some of them took order forms for friends that couldn't make it so hopfully more orders to come.

I have a fair in a pub tommorrow but I am not stressing tonight . I will sleep. I have learned no longer do I spend all night hand making everything .
