Glass Painting - Help!!!

The MIL has a thing about Christmas tree decorations, every year she will get a new decoration to remind her of that particular Christmas or something that has happened that year.

DD was born in April so I thought it would be nice to get a plain Glass Bauble and write something on it (maybe just Nana)

Never done glass painting before, could this be done is it hard?

Any suggestions for what I could write?

Or better still any one know where I could buy one ready painted? Or does that lose the ? I haven?t spent much money but the thought counts thing?

(Sorry to be talking about Christmas but it will probably take me till then to get the stuff and make the thing)

I'm making my own decorations this year for close family (well, dd will be helping!)

I'm going to make them from Salt dough (play doe mixture) and let dd paint them.

i made candle holders from the kids one year. my grandma nearly burst into tears cos it was so lovely, my mum said 'o thats nice, where did you get it done?@ (the cheek!).

is very easy, you basically buy a nice glass (coloured or clear), draw a pattern with the outliner which is a bit like a icing tube with a fine nozzle. allow to dry then colour in with the paints. i wrote something like merry xmas 2003 (or whatever, obviously) gran & grandad love from d & r. then drew snowman, xmas pud, candle and stuff and kids coloured them in.

what about leaving the glass painting til she can have some input and framing a hand and footprint surrounded by something xmassy? or just do a card - i took a photo of ds1 & 2 and then used computer to put a santa hat on ds1 and antlers and red nose on ds2. my mum has that framed

you can buy a flat sided peice of glass that has hanging string to glass paint on. Then you could find a pic you like and trace it rather than freehand. This would be really simple to do then free hand the writing of dd name and dob or something.

Liking all all the ideas, the flat glass sounds like it could be easier and maybe i could do cards as well..

You can get outlines that you stick down on the acetate sheets. Colour them in with the glass paints and when they are dry you simply peel the finished project of the acetate.
We made some last year and my DS's stuck them on their bedroom windows....spiders and cobwebs for Halloween and christmas stockings etc for christmas time.
DS2 spent ages painting a Paul Mason wine bottle for me...we use it as a vase!
