hello all

I posted a few weeks ago asking for some advice as at my dating scan they measured the babies nuchal fold at 4.6 they painted a really bleak picture which I was so angry about by the time I got home. Anyway I went for a private nuchal fold scan the following day which sonographer measured at 3.2 combined with my bloods odds for downs came down to 1:1128 and 1:3444 for edwards. Me and my boyf declined amnino due to personal reasons, so today I had to go for another scan with nhs am nearly 16 weeks now all looked ok she said neck is still measuring 4mm but apart from that all looked ok. All they said is I have to wait until 20 week scan now they were reluctant to reassure me I understand they can't do to a certain extent.

Anyway just wondered what anyone elses thoughts were?

Thank you x

Still great odds though. A scan is just a scan but your odds are based on more. A thick nuchal fold doesn't necessarily mean anything sometimes. They can't reassure you - because they can't 100% know and they actually print in our scan reports where I live that a scan may not show up all problems.

I wouldn't worry too much. Your odds look great.

Thank you for replying

The sonographer didnt say anything for about 10 minutes which felt like a life time, I always feels so much better after talking to other mumsnetters x

whereabouts in the country are you? have they offered for you to go anywhere with better equipment for example?
i only ask because a friend of mine had some worrying odds and was offered to be referred to London to a hospital with better equipment for a more detailed scan

did they check any other things? i don't knojw a huge amount abnout this, but I think there is an issue with one of the nasal bones or absence of one in babies with down syndrome... did they check things like that?

i think what it boils down to is that without an amnio or cvs you can never be 100% certain that there is/isn't a problem. and of course even those can't pick up every single possible problem a child may have

Can I suggest you visit the ante-natal tests and choices board on MN. Tons of advice from women who have gone through the same as you and lots of knowledge.
