Hi im 22 and had the combined test results given to me today, they started on 1/1048,then went to 1/111 based on the 12 week scan i had yester. this scan showed tricuspid regurgitation which means a leaky heart! although there were no other markers to be concerned about. but i got the horrid phone call 2day saying my odds were now 1/32! am booked for a cvs 2moro, but am so convinced there is sumthing wrong, just cant get my head to think positive at all! I really was'nt expecting this and am surrounded by ppl with healthy babies. Has anyone had a cvs? and what results are given to you first?
Sorry for such a long post! x

Hi Zara1987xxx, thinking of you over these few days. . . in a fairly similar situation myself and it's hellish. Receiving the news, and the moments of shock afterward, is the very hardest. No matter what happens, your mind starts to adjust to the new reality pretty quickly.

There seem to be lots and lots of women who've had CVS or amnio and come out with very positive stories. I'm sure many will be in touch here to encourage and support you. We've decided to live with the uncertainty, but I appreciate fully the desire to know. There are lots of very wise, experienced and supportive people on mumsnet who will help you get through this.

Didn't want your post to go unanswered - I've had CVS twice - its uncomfortable rather than painful and only takes around 30-45 mins in total. You will need to rest/take things easy for a day or so after. You should get an initial result in about 2-3 days which will tell you if there is an abnomality - full results take a couple of weeks. The charity ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices) are fantastic - if you need to talk through the issues round testing their helpline is excellent and they don't mind if you ramble/cry (as I have done to them!!)- just helps to talk and realise you are not alone - there are many of of us who have gone through this and its totally horrid.

Stay strong and all the very best

Hi - I also had a CVS last year after scan showing VERY obvious problems (ie brain not divided = serious). At my hosp, they used a really good scanner while doing the CVS; it does feel a bit uncomfortable and I must admit I couldn't watch - but obviously I was also pretty distressed as I'd only found out about problems a couple of hours before. I think my CVS was on the Fri afternoon and I rang for the quick results on Mon afternoon. The quick results are only for trisomy ie 3 chromosomes rather than 2, and I think they only test for the main 3 trisomies ie T21 (Downs), T18 (Edwards) and T13 (Patau's). The full results took around 14 days to come in, and I think they can then say whether it is full trisomy or partial trisomy or if there is a different chromosomal problem. Ask them about this before you have your CVS though as I've heard some people on here say they paid to get quick results, so I'm not sure if they are standard at every hospital (although people on Mumsnet might not be talking about UK/NHS hospitals).

After your CVS, do try to take it easy and don't do anything too exerting. I have a toddler, so couldn't really avoid lifting him, but equally he really helped take my mind of thinking about it too much. Also I'd suggest try NOT to think about it too much until you have the results - go to the cinema, go to the beach, do something.

I hope all goes well tomorrow and over the next few days, and I'd also second Makinglists advice re calling ARC - they were very helpful once I got my results and put me in touch with someone who had been in a very similar situation who I could talk to.
