Stressing myself about nasal bone

I had my combined results back a week and a half ago and my downs syndrome risk is 1:766 which is considered low risk. However, my previous pregmancy was 1 in 25,000 so this seems extremely different and i'm only 2 years older now (28)
I'm now analysing my scan pictures everyday and I just can't make out a nasal bone - particularly in the top picture. The white lines appear to be the nasal skin covering where the nasal bone should be comparing to other pictures online.

I've had two miscarriages and really hoped I could relax after my 12 week scan but I'm still just as anxious. Just not enjoying pregmancy at all because I'm so worried :-(

I understand how you feel, OP. I was given a 1 in 250 risk for DC2, which is considered low risk but like you it felt bad to me as DC1 was a 1 in 50,000 risk and I was only two years older. I decided to have a CVS and I got one on the NHS even though I fell into the low risk category. It was fine which was reassuring.

Flowers for you

Sorry I can't comment on the nasal bone - I really don't know.

Thank you for understanding and replying. I have hesitated in posting here in the 10 days since I've had the results as I didn't want to seen insensitive or ridiculous to those who have received results in the high risk category.

Are you considering further testing?

They check for it at the scan so if they didn't say anything about it I'd assume all was well. Your pics just show a 2D cross section and don't show the full detail of things like the nasal bone. It might be that your picture was taken during the scan at a point the bone wasn't visible or was obscured, but if it was taken a fraction of a cm in a different angle you'd see it. You can't diagnose anything from a scan pic.

Try not to worry, if there was anything to be alarmed about they'd have mentioned it at the time. Congratulations on your pregnancy; relax and enjoy it! Smile

I'm not amberears because I don't feel like my risk is high enough to warrant a cvs or amnio due to the slight miscarriage risk.

Thanks for the reply caken.
I keep thinking that she pointed out the nose so surely she'd have looked for the nasal bone but then I read a few posts where people had said it's not looked for so I got worried when I couldn't see one on my pictures.

The pictures the print for you are specifically for that - just a good angle/picture as a memento. It won't necessarily show the nasal bone correctly or anything relevant to testing. Don't worry about the picture.

Can you afford NIPT? It's about £500, depending on where you have it. It is still screening, not diagnostic, but the rates of false positives and false negatives are so small that it effectively lets you know for certain.

It's a lot of money, but it will put your mind at rest and let you enjoy the rest of the pregnancy.
