Early viability ultrasound/ 8 week scan - worth having?

I've just found out I'm pregnant for the second time and wanted to know thoughts on early viability ultrasound scans. Not so much the cost element, but more whether they help to provide a little reassurance ahead of the 12 week dating one? I haven't had a miscarriage but will be 40 next year so whilst I'm very excited, I'm also a little scared. Thanks xx

Honestly, I think below 12 weeks a scan only gives reassurance for the day on which you have it. Everything can be fine at 8 weeks and not at 9/10/11. I have certainly known quite a few friends to miscarry in the latter part of the 12 weeks Sad.

I remember the early pregnancy anxiety very well but my personal advice would be to just try and calm yourself and hang on til 12 weeks. Others may advise differently though.

I had an early scan, well lots of scans tbh, after we lost dd2 to T18.

8 weeks scan perfect, 10 week scan perfect, 12 week scan all good, 13 week mini anomoly scan and harmony results all perfect. Ds died at 13+1, the day after our last perfect scan where I was given a reassurance that all would be absolutely fine this time round.

I think thy can be helpful, it's a long wait to 12 weeks. They don't guarantee everything will be ok sadly (which is what I'd thought)

I had a miscarriage two days after an eight week scan which showed a heartbeat and growth to be spot on. I think they only offer reassurance on the day.

I had reasurrance scan with ds at 8.5 weeks, with dd at 10 weeks and at 7.5 weeks at that one. With ds I had a bleed due to blood pocket and it helped to see the live baby and know the reason for bleed. With this one another sac was present with no baby so there is a potential for bleed too. There is no guarantee but I found comfort with early scans.
