Hello All

I am new to mumsnet. I joined as i am originally from the Midlands but now live in Italy and i wanted some support in my mother tongue. Here in Italy people can be hyperchondriacs so i wanted some level headed advice.

As i am almost 40 and 11+3 weeks pregnant i was advised to have the CVS test which was done this morning. Now i am home resting......3 days off work (is this just Italy?)

I have to wait until 10 April for results but i will here before if there are any problems.

How did you all manage with the waiting? I have a sticky gauze banadage over the wound in my abdomen...how long do i leave this on?

Many thanks

Wow 3 days off work is great, well done Italy for looking after their women.

I just left the plaster on for a few hours.

What are you having the cvs to test for?

I had a CVS with DD2 but was back to work the next day - I didn't even get a plaster as I recall! Good old Italy to give three days.
Reference results - The wait was supposed to be two weeks and in fact I got a call on day 10 to say all clear. Over a month is a long time when each hour feels like five. Coped by thinking I would prefer to know now than later.
Very best of luck to you.

Thank you ladies.

I had the cvs test because it was recommended due to my age, i am being tested for all chromosome problems so i think thats why the results take so long. I was told that they do not call to say some of the results are "ok" just in case they find something else wrong later.

Thanks again for your comments.

Ah, things are obviously a bit different in Italy then as you only usually get a cvs or amino here if you blood results come back as high risk or the find soft markers on the scan.

A month is a long time to wait but if they haven't picked up anything specific then you have a very low risk, even as a slightly older mum

Hi KittyandTeal

I havent had a scan yet......next Wednesday will be my first scan. They just looked at my age and said best to have the CVS or Amnio.

After the CVS i did get to see the baby and hear the heart beat for a couple of seconds.....will be nice next week when i have my scan and my partner can see too...just hoping not to receive any news in between!
