Had my 12 week scan (11+6) yesterday. have a retroverted uterus and a baby that enjoyed doing somersaults, waving and sticking it's bottom to the probe. After 2 lengthy attempts the sonographer could not get a transverse shot to do the dating bit. She did get a couple of shots which showed the nuchal fold and it looked good and she said there was nothing obvious to worry about.

She has said they cannot scan me again (trust policy) but I have to come back in 3 weeks for a dating scan and quad test. I will be 14+5 on the re - scan.

does anyone know.....

  1. is the quad test less reliable than the nt combined test? she said 3% but I see very different results when googling.
  2. will the dating be too late at 15 weeks as I thought after 12 weeks the growth varied baby to baby.

Trying to decide if it is worth paying out £200 to get the nt done privately or if the quad test is enough. I am not sure what I would do if it is bad news so not sure if paying out would change any outcome.

I also have a retroverted uterus and the sonographer found it very difficult to get the baby into the right place for the nuchal measurement. Eventually she managed to get a shot. She said they liked to get three pictures and take an average but was only able to get two. The fold measured 2.7 which is a bit above average without being a cause for concern in itself. However, I spent a week waiting for the results in absolute terror! I got a low risk result but declined to know the actual ratio from midwife! In hindsight, the baby and fold looked normal and I would rather have not done the test at all. My sister wasn't able to do the test due to position of baby. She had a blood test at 16 weeks, got 'low risk' and thought nothing of it. Her baby is fine. I wouldn't pay privately myself, but it's up to you. Not sure about the dating. She was able to measure that ok at mine.

Thanks serafinaa. Think I will wait as I think the risk isn't in the scan so if it is uncooperative again that is a wasted £200. Now to try and not worry till I do the blood test.
