Screened Positive on Quad Screening (Sequential integrated ) for Down Syndrome - Any advice?

This has been a really stressful week. I am 16 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Got a screen positive 1:130 risk. I am 35 years old and my cutout was given as 1:200. For the first test I screened negative and for the 15 week blood draw I screened positive. Here are the quad results :

AFP MOM : 0.85 based on :26 ng/ml
HCG MOM : 1.41 based on 55. 84 IU/ml
uE3 MOM : 0.57 based on 0.46 ng/ ml
Inhibin Mom : 0.84 based on 198.6 pg/ml

I met with a genetic counsellor and decided to do the Maternit21 test. She did say that nothing in my hormones or NT (1.41 based on :2.2 mm) could suggest why I was screened positive. The stress is killing me!
Moms look at my values and tell me what could have caused this screen positive. Is my HCG high at 1.41?? Does anyone know of the average values for this kind of a test which would bring my risk higher? If I knew this would cause me so much stress I would have declined all testing!

Have no idea sorry but didn't want you to go unanswered. Have you and your partner discussed what you would do if it was confirmed that the baby had Down's Syndrome? You obviously don't have to tell us your decision but I've been in a similar position and it was made easier as we both had the same point of view.

Hugs Flowers I'm sorry to hear about your test results.

But I'm not sure what you mean by positive and negative? As far as I'm aware, the combined test at 12 weeks and the quad test at 15-16 weeks only give you a risk factor. I thought only cvs, amnio or the harmony tests could give a definite yes or no.

Hi OP, the basic answer is that a risk factor of 1:130 falls into the 'high risk' category which is 1 in 150 or less. It is not a positive or negative result, only a probability calculation as the Quad test is a screening test not a diagnostic test.

Remember that 1 in 130 still only means a less than 1% (0.77% to be more precise) chance of your baby actually having Down's Syndrome.

The next step is decide whether to have genetic testing to find out for sure whether your baby has Down's Syndrome or any of the other trisomies (Edwards, Patau's).

All the best OP.

I may be wrong, but you haven't screened positive for Downs. you're test results have come back with a higher than average risk but 1 in 130 doesn't mean your baby has Downs.
Will you be having any more tests?

Sorry, I can't read back through the thread when I'm posting by phone.
The next test will give you a much better idea, but 1 in 130 is still a very positive figure. even 1 in 2 still only gives you a 50/50 chance!
