On Monday is my 12 week scan and I am absolutely petrified. The last scan I had was in a previous pregnancy (in feb) and sadly resulted in a diagnosis which lead us to terminate the pregnancy. I can't bare the thought of it happening again. The shock and heartbreak were unbearable. That time it was for spina bifida and was detected at 20 weeks. They wouldn't be able to see that at 12 weeks, we will have to wait til 16, but I'm now really anxious about downs or any other abnormalities. I suppose once you have had a bad experience once you become rather neurotic and anxious about everything that can go wrong.
I desperately want a baby but I am not sure I could continue with the pregnancy if there were major long term health problems.
I know I will get v emotional just stepping into the fetal medicine unit and it brings back so many awful memories.
Have any of you had a tfmr and then been completely scared through your next pregnancy?
Good luck to you all xxx

DRS I don't have any experience of this but I get why you are nervous about the scan and I am so sorry for your earlier loss. Will be thinking of you on Monday and wishing you a very boring, typical pregnancy. Flowers

Hi Drs, sorry to read about your previous loss. Have you thought about having the Harmony Test? It might be a bit late for you to have it now but it rules out the major trisomy defects by 12weeks and definitely eased our minds. x

I had a bad 20 week scan which lead to termination for medical reasons too. I'd had miscarriages previously and an ectopic also so basically in my next (successful!!) there was no such thing as a relaxed scan for me! I know just what you mean about the fetal medicine unit. I cried my eyes out walking through the door. It's just bloody awful and stressful and when you've been 'that statistic' nothing anyone can say makes you feel reassured. So I won't tell you it will all be okay but I will tell you I absolutely understand and I'm holding your hand. Have you spoken to ARC? Their forum is amazing and so supportive. Xxx

Whatyour feeling it totally normal and I don't think any of us will enjoy scans pregnancy keep strong and good luck x
