Nuchal measurement 2.7

I've just got back from my scan. I was dated at 13+2 weeks and the nuchal measurement was 2.7. I was told that this is within the 'normal' range but that I wouldn't get a risk ratio until the blood test results are back. However, searching online seems to put 2.7 as a higher measurement so now I'm very worried. Can anyone reassure me that this measurement is ok? I'm 32 years old if that is relevant.

I think that is definitely within the normal range. I had a measurement of 3.3 cm with my son and I queried it with a few people at the hospital and they apparently consider anything less than 3.5 cm to be unworthy of further investigation. Although of course you need to get the combined result back - I'm no expert but I worried and googled just the same as you and all was fine as I'm sure it will be for you.

I think that should read mm not cm!

Less than 3.5 is normal and the nuchal fold grows in proportion with the baby so would be thicker at 13wks than at 11 iyswim. DS was 3.2 at 13+5 weeks and nobody batted an eyelid.

The measurement alone unfortunately can't tell you much like they've said. Only the bloods combined with it will give you a risk factor. Babies with downs can have all different sized nuchal folds

Thanks for the replies. My in-depth googling is suggesting that this measurement will increase my risk slightly above the normal age-related one but that I really need to wait for the blood tests to have a better idea. The hospital said they would ring within a week if there was a problem or send a letter in 2-3 weeks if not. It's such a long time to wait!

I have a 2.7 toddler sleeping peacefully upstairs! Grin Perfectly healthy. Although i understand your worry as I felt exactly the same as you. Stay off Google.

I know, google is not always your friend! A few years ago I would have been told '2.7 is within the normal range' and gone home completely happy and left it at that! Google allows me to compare with others and research far too much... I think I'm feeling particularly anxious as my partner is serving abroad with the armed forces at the moment and I don't have anyone to talk to. I haven't even told family yet as I'm too worried something is wrong Confused
