Antenatal tests

Is it possible I just have fat necked babies?

Having my 2nd CVS test tomorrow after scan showed a nuchal of 4.5mm, don't have a combined result, we are abroad and the system seems to be different.

It was the same with my first pg, nuchal of 3.7mm other factors seemed ok and I was only 29, now 31, so couldn't believe it when my results came back at 1:6. In that case everything was fine and we have a wonderful DD.

Can hardly believe we are back here again, waiting and worrying and the results so far are even worse.

Is it possible I just make babies with a high nuchal? Has anyone else been through this more than once with good results?

I know a family where 3 cousins have all had high risk results (one was given 1:2) following nuchal scans, but their DC were chromosomally normal.

So yes. It could be that you do just have pregnancies showing high risk factor at this stage. I think it's very sensible to get further tests done so that you can make an informed choice, especially as the factors look more severe this time.

I hope that your CVS test goes well and that you get the result that you want.

I have three children. DC1 had a normal nuchal measurement but with DCs 2 and 3 I had high nuchal measurements and therefore high risk actors 1 in 10 for DC3). Thankfully all three were born healthy. I asked our consultant the exact same question "might I just make babies with big necks?" And he said there was no literature saying that could happen but anecdotally he had seen a few women go through the same.

Good luck OP, I remember the huge stress of this stage.

Thanks artichook, I asked at my cvs test today and the dr said that having a high nuchal in previous pregs is a risk factor for a high nuchal but they don't know why

My consultant definitely agreed with this. She reckoned she had a couple with three babies with nuchals over 6mm, dad was built like rugby player with a really fat neck, as we're all the babies.

That is funny Aunt Pepita, my husband is a rugby player with a typical rugby player's neck!
