Has anyone declined bump measurements

I might be totally on my own here but I'm considering declining further bump measurements as I've found the whole measuring/charting very stressful, one minute I'm too big then too small and having scans (no problems on scan), I really feel its not accurate or beneficial and I really don't want anymore scans, it just seems so intrusive... Anyone feel similarly?

No, and please don't. It was an important early warning sign that something was starting to go very, very wrong with my seemingly outwardly easy second pregnancy. A little bit of stress week on week is nothing compared to of a trend of too big/too small continues and you can get referred and possibly save your baby's life by intervention.

They have stopped doing bump measurements near me. Apparently they are so inaccurate - but I think most places do still do them and recommend having them done. But I have never had my bump measured.

It is a pretty crude measurement but small is right that it can pick up serious issues as well as bring a bit scary when the measurements don't match up. Another really really important thing is to keep an eye on baby's movements and if you're ever worried that you've not felt kicks for too long then do get a quick check to make sure. Maybe tell your midwife next time that the inaccuracy is stressing you out and see if she can maybe explain things better for you? Good luck. x

It really was the first wanting sign. Literally, noticing else at all had rung alarm bells. It was a straightforward, normal pregnancy... In fact I'd joked with the midwife that I probably measured too big (as I always was a bit big with dd1 consistently). In fact, I looked 'big'. But it really wasn't.

I will not be declining any of the standard midwife checks - they are short and infrequent as it is. I have never felt they were excessive or unnecessary.

I have been to the labour ward during both pregnancies for secondary tests. Once for unexplained pain and this time due to a small car accident. I cannot fault the NHS - I really can't, they took excellent care of me and explored every possible concern on both occasions leaving me feeling like there was nothing left unchecked. I left hospital both times feeling very lucky to have the NHS midwifery service Grin

My midwife didn't measure me and just put down the right measurements for the weeks I was Confused
She missed the fact I had lost nearly all my water, had placental failure and nearly lost dd1Sad
