Waiting for CVS results. They won't do full study?

Hi all

I had a CVS on Friday after two nuchal scans and bloods gave me high risk for Edwards Patau and Downs. Now anxiously awaiting the results...

I've been told by the hospital that the CVS tissue will only be analysed for those three conditions. They won't do a full karyotype study to look for any other chromosomal disorders, due to resource constraints.

Has anyone else been told this after a CVS or amnio? Did anyone manage to persuade their hospital to do the full karyotype study?

I guess the results on those 3 syndromes are the most important since they are the most common, but I can't help but feel that after taking the risk of having a CVS I would like them to look for everything they can!

Yes my hospital policy is just to look at those 3 if nuchal fold measurement is below 3.5mm. I had a 1:15 risk but nuchal was 2.6mm so ineligible. Fast results (2-3 days) were also only available to those with a risk of 1:50 or worse, which I did qualify for.

However, while I didn't qualify for the full karyotype on the nhs, I did have the option of paying for it myself, which I did to the tune of c. £185. The fetal medicine midwife arranged this for me with the lab...

I'm sorry you are going through with this and I hope for good results for you (my second son got clear results and is now 1 year old).

Thanks mummy for your reply. That's really interesting about paying for the full karyotype, I wasn't offered this but might ask about it, I would be happy to pay for the full test for some extra peace of mind.

Yes my nuchal was about 2.6 too. Glad your son got clear results Smile

I totally understand, that's how I felt. Very best wishes for your results. x

just got the first set of results, I am all clear. And thanks so much for the tip about paying for the full karyotype, I have asked and it looks like I can do that, just waiting for the lab to call me. Thank you again.

Thanks

Just wanted to say mini - good news and I hope you get some resolution with the full test. It's all so stressful!
