Hi all. Just been for 12 week scan and nuchal reading came back about 2.4mm. I'm 26 and healthy but I have had to take alot of medication with the pregnancy due to hyperemesis. This is my first pregnancy. I'm slightly concerned as this reading is alot higher than most that i've seen. The sonographer took lots and lots of measurements which concerned me and she went a bit quiet after that. She also asked me to get up and jump around then scanned me again as she needed to get the best measurements she could. I then had blood tests and was told they'd ring me if it was high risk and write to me if it was low. Just a bit worried as the reading is much higher than alot i've seen. Is it high?

Hi feekerry - i don't think it sounds like anything to worry about - sounds withing the normal range to me - see here. www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/scans/nuchalscan/

thank you, its just a bit worrying when all my friends etc have come back with readings no higher than about 1.4mm

hi - just to hopefully reassure you that most sonographers look for a reading below 3mm, which is considered within normal range. so although 2.4mm may be a little higher that your friend, i don't think there is any cause for concern with that reading. of course, the risk factor itself can't be calculated until your bloods are added, but i would think as long as your bloods were ok, with that nuchal reading and your age, you would be fine.

it's hard not to worry though i know, when you've a little baby inside you. hope you get your results (by post!!) soon xxxx

Mine was 2.3mm at 13 weeks 4 days and after the blood tests my result came back as 1:25,000 ... and I'm 32. Try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know, as I too posted a question just like this back in July!

Okay ladies thank you very much. I feel suitably reassured! Its my own fault for doing too much internet research as if i'd have just left it I wouldn't have thought twice about the measurements as the sonographer didn't say anything. All she said was it was a two part test and they'd use the two to make a calculation. Was just a bit worried when its higher than most of the people I speak too but feel much better now. Thank you. X

Hi I've just had my 3rd DC and his nuchal measurement was 2.7mm at exactly 12 weeks. I was told that this was just above the top end of the normal range though nothing to worry about, I think anything above 3mm is seen as high. My son was fine though I did worry all through the pregnancy.
You could always phone them yourself to chase the blood results.

like eavers our DD's (due early Dec) had a nuchal measurement of 2.77 slightly before 12 weeks; with bloods and maternal age this came out as 1:11 odds for down syndrome; had cvs and all is well. They reacted as though this was a terrible nuchal result though, even though by UK guidelines it's only just over the upper limit.

just to let you all know had my combined results back today as low risk- 1 in 34000 so even tho the nuchal was on the higher end of normal everything seems okay. thanks for all your assurances.
