Diaphramatic Hernia

I am just wondering if anyone has been through a similar thing to me as I don't know anyone who understands...

I already have a child from a previous relationship and after being with my new partner for 4 years we decided to try for a baby. We were over the moon when that second line appeared!! This was however to be short lived....

At 11 weeks i was told of a nt measurement of 4mm and refered to a specialist the next day. After her scan she did not think the baby had a chromosome problem but the heart looked slightly central. Two weeks later and we were told the baby's heart was in the right side rather than the left. We were then told this was due to a diaphramatic hernia. Another two weeks later and after another scan we were told that the stomach and bowls were also in the baby's chest which resulted in there not being enough room for the lungs to develop.

We were then faced with the only possible option to minimize our babies suffering....A termination.

At 17 weeks i was induced into labour and after 5 hours i gave birth to a perfectly formed little boy. This all happened just over a week ago and i feel as if i've gone into shock. I don't feel as if this has happened to me, it just doesn't seem real. Has anyone else had an experience like this?

Dear Bluecat, I'm so sorry to hear what happened and for the loss of your little boy.

There is a wonderful thread here with women who have been through a similarly awful experience - perhaps not for the same reasons, but we all know the terrible emotions that accompany a termination for abnormalities. Post if you feel strong enough or just read. Here's the thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_tests_choices/978305-Antenatal-support-thread-for-women-who-have-chosen-to-terminate

I remember in the weeks before and then after my termination feeling as if I were watching someone else go through my life, because I could not comprehend that this was happening to me.

bluecat sorry to hear what happend.i had similar issues.terminated at 23 weeks on dec 23 2010.the baby had CHAOS syndrome.the wind pipe was blocked so lungs grew too large , heart was small and diagphram was inverted.there was water in abdomen as well.probably not a genetic issue but was accidental.i know how it feels.even after a month and a half i still cannot believe that this happened to me.it was my first pregnancy and i was excited to me a mom.i am not sure what to say ... may be time will heal.
