Any magically appearing nasal bones?

Looking for some good news stories as everything I've read on the internet so far is incredibly depressing...

Had our nuchal scan last week at FMC at 12 weeks. NT was 1.9mm and bloods ok, all heart stuff ok etc BUT absent nasal bone.

My age-related risk alone was 1 in 90, and actually went down to 1 in 312 after the scan and bloods despite the nasal bone finding Hmm

We're right on the borderline of when they would recommend testing but are probably going to go for a CVS. We're just praying that by some miracle the Nose Fairy has been by then....

Has anyone had this happen with a good outcome? I am torturing myself.

Oh and it's probably pointless to tell me to stay away from Google, we all know that ain't gonna happen Grin

Thank you in advance xxx

hi i had this but by the 20week scan it was all present and correct my initial risk was 1-497 without bloods then went to 1-1500 (approx) but after the 20 week scan (nasal bone present) went to 1- 4500 (approx).

a friend of mine has also had this happen too.

when i spoke to my midwife she had said that alot o people have been told the same but for the most it was present on the next scan.

HTH

Wow thank you so much Twinklebum for such a speedy reply, and for a little bit of hope!

Feeling a smidge better already...

I think the nasal bone not appearing only counts if it hasn't by 14 weeks (end of the NT scan period) At 12 weeks you're still in the first third of that, so there's still plenty of time!

the sign is really 'delayed calcification of the nasal bone' not absence, even in DS you'd expect it to become calcified at some point after 13+6 weeks.

Also has pregnancy progresses you risk of DS will fall because so many babies with chromosomal abnormalities are lost in pregnancy - so for any given baby the risk they have DS will be less at 20 weeks than at 12 & then lower again at birth simply because they are still alive.

Thanks Sparklies and Phlebas.

Thought I'd update this for any other poor souls trawling tinternet for similar stories! We went for a CVS earlier this week, and a nasal bone had actually appeared in the meantime (5 days!). Just got the preliminary PCR results and all clear :)

So please don't despair if they can't see a nasal bone on your nuchal scan

Thanks everyone for your posts xxx
