Antenatal tests

Very high free beta HCG on combined test

Hi there, I am new here and looking for advice. I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Last week I went for the combined scan and blood test, these are my results:

Nuchal Measurement - 1.00 MoM
Free B-HCG - 4.43 MoM
PAPP-A Level - 0.85 MoM

I am 32 and will be 33 at my due date. The average DS risk for me should be 1:570 but I have been told mine is now 1:350, mainly due to the HCG result. I know this is still officially low risk but I am obsessing about why my HCG would be SO high and what this means. Does anyone else have experience of this kind of result? I am planning to pay for an 'add on' blood test at 15 weeks where they test the HCG again along with some other things. Wondering whether I can have a more detailed scan now (at 13 weeks too?)

Any advice would be great. Thanks

I can't remember my measurements but both PAPP A and HCG readings weren't great - so much so that when combined with a 2.9mm NF we were given 1 in 2 for DS. All was fine thankfully...
You should try not to read in to individual test results they combine them for a reason!
Try not to worry your odds are good!

Take care x

Hi

Thanks for your response, glad to hear all was fine.

On Monday I went for a private scan and bloods at the Fetal Medical Center after reading some good reports

www.fetalmedicine.com/fmc/

I have to say they were fantastic. I would recomend anyone go along if they want a more detailed perspective following the NHS combined test. The scan lasted about an hour but I think that is mainly due to the fact that baby kept getting into the wrong position! They checked soft markers that the NHS didnt such as the heart and nasal bone and all was found to be fine which was a relief. My bloods are still slightly abnormal. A week later they are

PAPP-A - 1.04 MOM
HCG - 3.41 MOM
NT thickness 2.5 mm

So my HCG is still far too high but lower than last week and NT is now relatively much higer at 2.5mm. This might be becuase I am now a week later (13+2) but still weird it has jumped up to the 95th percentile. Trying not to worry too much as my odds from the FMC are now

Trisomy 21 1:1364
Trisomy 13/18: 1:11,779

MUCH better than the 1:374 the NHS gave me!

Fabulous - they are very popular on here!
You must be made up with those odds!
Best of luck with everything - will look out for you x
