I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and I am feeling really very depressed. During the whole pregnancy ive not been myself, been angry and very emotional. I used to have an eating disorder so knew it may be hard for me. At a midwife appointment she said I had glucose in urine so suggested i cut out sugar which I did. After two weeks and another apointment I no longer had the glucose but tested ++++ketones. The consultant said it was due to dehydration, didn't seem concerned and told me to drink more. I bought ketone sticks and I still keep getting traces. I feel my eating is partly responsible and am freaking out as read that ketones can cause learning disabilities and low iq. I now feel even more depressed and am dreading each day that I wake up. Another 8 week's feels like forever and I'm absolutely petrefied I have hurt my baby. I visited my gp to say how low I was feeling. He said the baby will take what it needs and not to worry, but this hasn't helped me. Has anyone else had problems with ketones and their babies been okay? How do I get out of this depression without taking medication?

I had GD in pregnancy and once I was on the low carb diet I was constantly getting ketones in urine tests. The midwives didn't seem concerned about it once I explained that I was on a low carb diet due to GD and baby is now 10 weeks and doing great.
As for feeling depressed, maybe have a chat with your GP about your options? There's a lot available for mental health support in pregnancy and the post natal period.

Lilacjellybean, were you getting ketones right up until the end of your pregnancy? When were you diagnosed with gd? How high were your ketone levels? My gp was very reassuring and said that he thinks the reason behind my feeling this way is just because I'm worrying about my health and what Ive read on internet but he did say if I was still feeling bad to come back.

I had ketones throughout my whole 2 pg as I just couldn't eat much. Luckily for me I had enough weight on me for it not to be an issue.

I was diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks and had ketones right to the end at varying levels.

Lovesbaubling, is your little one healthy? Did you also have varying levels of ketones?
