Glad the 2nd+ timers are also popping out so much earlier, DH finds it very funny!

HungryHorace Sat 01-Feb-14 13:40:19

I look massive. I'm also aching more earlier. I'm not sure I could get up to 4 kids as I'm already knackered and broken with 1.3!

Me too with the bump protruding. Although I haven't put on weight as quickly as last time, am still running twice a week although have slowed down a bit! An getting sooooo hungry now though. Telling DILs today so hoping for a good reception. Also got to tell DSS who is 13, don't think he'll give a damn being a teenage boy but his mother may be put out. Will not let it put dampener on it!!!!

nocheeseplease Sat 01-Feb-14 14:38:14

Hiya, sorry i didnt give my age, I'm 31. To whoever asked (can't remember who it was, it was on previous thread) i can feel the top of my bump about an inch below my belly button when I'm lay down in bed in the morning. It disappears through the day then comes back in the evening. I think I've only got another week or two left in my normal clothes....

I've got a nice night planned tonight anyway, me and dh are off to the comedy store in manchester for a meal and a giggle. We're child free tonight (woohoo) so are making the most of it, i can't wait, its been ages since i ventured out in the evening!

Just got my triple test/ nuchal result, which is 1:6700. Phew! The fact that I am 35 would skew the test anyway so I feel very relieved. :-)

sillymeagain Sat 01-Feb-14 15:36:25

Oooh...another thread. Thank you.

Can't wait for my scan on Tuesday. ..it's at 8 on the morning...my mum is coming round at 7 to get thw other dc's ready for school. ...its going to be a very early start for us but so pleased its early. I will have no time to get my self in a tizzy! Hubby has the day off...little does he know that I am dragging him maternity jean shopping afterwards ( assuming all is good news) before we go for lunch!

Think there are at least 3 of us with scans on Tuesday and quite a few throughout the week. So hoping we all have good news and lots of pics to share.

How is everyone doing? My sickness has more or less gone and thw tiredness is mainly just "a bit more than normal" now. I have found out that despite craving cereal ( shreddies with hot milk) most dairy products make me feel so poorly for a good couple of hours. Since working this out and avoiding it I have felt lots better. But concerned about my lack of calcium. ..any ideas to help with this? Or anyone else with strange food aversions?

NameToBeDecided Sat 01-Feb-14 15:52:50

Does any one who is in over bump jeans find they fit ok? I've got some but they just look comical at the moment grin I'm sticking to under bump for time being but do prefer overs for later on.

UpQuarkDownQuark Sat 01-Feb-14 16:01:50

Quick question, how long before your 12 week scan did you get your scan date? I will be 12 weeks a week on Monday and would quite like to book in some time off work for it.

I am disappointed I have zero bump yet but I am starting from a fairly flabby tummy!

DichotoMous Sat 01-Feb-14 16:06:41

UpQuark I got my scan date two weeks before. It was arranged at my booking appointment so I didn't have to wait for a letter in the post.

2beornot Sat 01-Feb-14 16:09:46

Found you! Had a fab day shopping - went to mamas and papas and got stuff to deck out the nursery. Very excited. Now I've just got to clear out dd stuff then DH can get to work redecorating!

I'm impressed at you ladies managing to feel your fundus! I can't (but then I do have some padding) although I def look more pregnant!

Upquark - I'm surprised you haven't heard yet. Can you phone midwife/hospital?

mssleepyhead Sat 01-Feb-14 16:46:31

Thank you for the jeans tips : ) just home from the day out with my sister and immediately into jogging bottoms. Pregnancy is turning me into such a slob!

I can feel my fundus now, I think. If I lie down, it's just a couple of finger widths above my bone but when I stand I can feel a definite ridge around the waistband of my knickers. Getting higher, but still some way off my belly button!

Mitchell81 Sat 01-Feb-14 17:01:57

My DH asked me last week while looking at my ever expanding belly. How weeks are you? No hiding it and I'm only 11 weeks tomorrow.

CountdownBegins Sat 01-Feb-14 17:05:02

Thank you for the new thread! We've been at mamas and papas today too- just popped in for some maternity jeans as I've been undoing my normal jeans halfway through the day! It's been so uncomfortable! Got a great skinny black pair over the bump that are really stretchy so for nicely even with just a small bump- I'm definitely starting to look more pregnant and less bloated. They have 20% off their maternity clothes at the minute so worth a look.

Hope you are all having a relaxing weekend

Thatsnotmyfigure Sat 01-Feb-14 17:13:06

Hi everyone! Just chrck

Thatsnotmyfigure Sat 01-Feb-14 17:14:11

Oops! Just checking in! Great to get some mat jeans ideas! Can't say I'm popping out even though this is DC2 but am definitely bigger!

Mrsantithetic Sat 01-Feb-14 17:20:07

I had my first scan a few weeks ago all ok. Due date confirmed as 3/8. I was on the first thread and have popped in and out since but not really posted.

Ruggle Sat 01-Feb-14 18:13:23

I was also just at Mamas and Papas. Their jeans are waaay too long for me. I need 31"leg but their standard jeans looked like 33!
Tried two pairs in Debenhams, both size 8...one had bump ban that went up to my ribs and was very tight and I couldn't get my hips into the other pair. Size 10 was huge. I may have to give up on jeans!

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 18:55:45

I had decided not to have the downs test with my scan next Monday. I didn't have it with dd as I knew wouldn't make a difference etc. but when I discussed this with the midwife she didn't mention it also tested for other things! Abnormalities that are not compatible with life, am I the only one that didn't know this?! It doesn't say this in the book! Anyway this is a link from a thread on the baby centre app I'm sure a lot of you are on anyway as it has changed my mind and I'm now having the test so just wanted to make sure everyone had same information.

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 18:56:51

Not at all saying not having test isn't a good idea (that's a personal choice!) just that my choice changed once I had this info and I was annoyed that midwife doesn't make this obvious?!

FriendofDorothy Sat 01-Feb-14 19:04:37

I won't be having nuchal screening either.

My 13 months old son has got chicken pox. I phoned my GP to check out that there was nothing I should be too worried about but as I have had it before they told me not to worry.

Ruggle Sat 01-Feb-14 19:10:49

I didn't have it. The info that they gave me at the scan didn't mention anything other than Downs but even if it had mentioned other issues I still would have refused.

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 19:25:31

As I say not trying to change people's views just think link is worth a read thanks

My friends sister had refused the ns. And triple test but found out major anomalies at 20 wk scan. She chose a termination at 21 weeks as the baby's condition was deemed incompatible with life. Heartbreaking especially as she is 24 and it was her first. Not that it would necessarily have been picked up at 12 weeks if she had had all the tests.

londonchick Sat 01-Feb-14 19:45:47

Hi! Glad everyone is well. I'm 12w 4d now. Scan on Monday morning. Excited and terrified at the same time!! Sickness is much better now but still nauseous and not eating much.

My stomach looks huge already! Lower stomach. It's only my 1st so I find the size a bit disconcerting!! I only have 1 pair of trousers that fit me now! I'm a size 10 normally and have eaten about half my normal amount for about 6 weeks now due to sickness! Glad I won't be hiding it much longer!!

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 19:46:17

Travis I think that's what this thread is getting at, so sad

Couldn't read your link owly. Can you try again?

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 20:15:30

I can't do a clicky link as I'm on an I phone... Can someone copy and paste it to a clicky link??

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 20:17:26
Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 20:17:49

Oh I did it!! Get me smile

Yay thanks

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 20:30:06

You're welcome! Hope I haven't annoyed anyone posting the link! Not meaning to worry anyone! Just changed my mind so thought I'd post it in just case anyone wanted to see it! Pre warning some bad stories on there which I skipped over just read info! smile

Tc80 Sat 01-Feb-14 20:39:32

Hi ladies I bought 2 pairs of under bump jeans/jeggings from blooming marvellous at mothercare - 20 quid each and the black pair are trouser like enough to wear to work. Also I am a definite short leg person and these are skinny enough to turn under, just in case people are looking. It's such a relief to be out of restrictive jeans even though they are a bit big at the mo.

Thatsnotmyfigure Sat 01-Feb-14 21:55:59

Owly have you read the one of the mumsnet Blog of the Day's today about a lady with Downs dd?? Amazing piece of writing I think you'd like it. Have asked Dh to read it as he is v closed re Downs baby and we are having screening done. It made me cry actually.

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 22:28:18

I shall have a look! I totally didn't want test because it wouldn't change anything if baby had downs and dh feels the same but I the life incompatible issues are obviously different and I can't believe they don't tell you the tests also finds them? Unless the thread is wrong? Correct me if it is!!

Secretlypregnant Sat 01-Feb-14 23:21:25

Yes, it gives your chances of the baby having two or three of the rarer issues as well as downs. You get them all on the print out afterwards.

As a pp said, the harmony test I did also checks for various problems. I'm awaiting results at the moment although I already feel more confident after the scan they did.

Hope everyone has had a good Saturday. Tonight my mum babysat and I went out with dh to celebrate five years since we met. Gorgeous Asian food, I stuffed my face and now my belly has popped right out. Normal leggings became very uncomfortable around the waist, so I will be shopping for some under bump ones tomorrow! If I can find any...

Owlysims Sat 01-Feb-14 23:25:47

Thanks secretly for explaining! Silly midwife/booklet they gave me didn't tell me any of that! Good job I have you guys! Glad you're feeling confident! I'm sure all is fine!

New look does under and over bump leggings online if that helps. I know over bump ones are good not tried under smile

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 06:41:37

Thanks, I will have a look. I know from last time I couldn't stand over bump things so it'll have to be under for me.

Dd awoke at half five with a blocked up nose. Remember lazy Sunday mornings?! smile

lucyfluff Sun 02-Feb-14 06:58:13

Secretly...Next do under bump leggings smile

I was up at 6.30 not too bad for a Sunday. I find it hard to lay in nowadays my body clock has adjusted to no sleep lol!!!

Rootvegetables Sun 02-Feb-14 10:15:01

Hello all, I've been lurking for a while so thought I'd pop in, I found out at 10.5 weeks I'm expecting twins in August which was a bit of a surprise! But I'm really worried about them as I seem to be loosing my sickness and bloating a bit, I'm just over 12 weeks and having a scan on Tuesday, no bleeding or cramps but just worried, are others beginning to feel a bit better? I've been so unwell with sickness waking up today just hungry having eaten my first full meal in 10weeks last night is a bit disconcerting. They both were wiggling with heartbeats at 10.5 weeks, can you all reassure me please! Congratulations to you all on happy healthy scans and to make you all feel better I was wearing maternity jeans at 6 weeks!!

ClarissaG Sun 02-Feb-14 10:19:24

Hello all, some advice / reassurance please.......
I woke up last night with that dull aching period type pain, and still hasn't gone away this morning. No blood or anything but really worried. I know it is normal in the very early stages as the cells / foetus implants to the wall of the womb, but I am now 12+2. I have a horrible feeling something bad is going to happen. I've not had my scan yet (it's tomorrow, thank goodness) so no idea if everything is ok. I know I will just have to wait until tomorrow, but I am so emotionally exhausted with worrying about things and seem to constantly be in tears also.

Completely irrationally also, I was at a dinner party last night where lots of people were smoking around me. No one knows about the pregnancy and I couldn't say anything but it really worried me. i know babeis and bodies are far more resilient than that, but argggh

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 10:29:19

Welcome, Root! I should think you're just experiencing what a lot of us are - the easing off of symptoms as we pass out of the first trimester. I'm sure your scan will reassure you too. And congratulations! Are the twins going to be your first?

Clarissa, I believe that aching can be connected with your muscles and insides adjusting to make room. You have a wriggly person inside getting bigger every day. Bound to be making you feel things you haven't felt before. It's great that your scan us tomorrow as that is the only thing that will really reassure you. What time is it? Get some rest today and I'm sure it'll be good news tomorrow. X

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 10:30:07

Rootvegetables Sun 02-Feb-14 10:35:53

Thanks secretly, and Clarissa it must be a morning for worrying, being pregnant is such an emotional time! I actually have a two year old aswell so if all goes smoothly I'm in for a very busy few years! I think I was less sick last time so maybe I'm just noticing the lack of sickness more obviously, it would be lovely to think that all is well and I get to not be sick!

If it helps I suffered badly last time and then at 13 weeks felt magically better. So I think it's fairly common. Unless you are one of the unlucky ones who is sick all pregnancy. I remember going to the gp at about 9 or 10 weeks last time and sobbing at the prospect that it might go on for another 6 months+

ClarissaG Sun 02-Feb-14 10:46:17

Thanks secretly and root - so much over thinking and over worrying. 12pm tomorrow, I'm in tears even thinking about it, good or bad outcome. Going to be a weeping embarrassment at the hospital, luckily my DH thinks the tears are endearing.
off for a walk in the sun (amazing), need to distract myself.

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 10:49:34

My dd is nearly two, Root, and I wasn't sick with her at all. This time I felt really nauseous and it only started easing off at 12 weeks. After your scan you'll be able to properly revel in feeling well again!

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 10:51:17

I did a bit of crying too, Clarissa. Less than I expected though, due to having to jump about to get the baby to move!

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie Sun 02-Feb-14 11:21:14

14+1 today and clothes are just starting to get uncomfortable so I'm dragging DH off shopping. What he doesn't know is we're popping into a giant kiddo are too grin

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie Sun 02-Feb-14 11:21:51

Kiddo are?!?! Stupid autocorrect. Kiddicare!!

HungryHorace Sun 02-Feb-14 11:40:55

Kiddicare have a nursery deal on that ends at midnight tonight. I've just ordered a cot bed that matches DD's as they're going to be sharing a room.

We decided to go with the Mothercare mattress that matches DD's too so will sort that as well soonish.

Those whose symptoms are waning, it is the benefit of the placenta taking over. I mostly feel ok now at 13+3, though I've felt sicky today.

I've been quite productive though. I need to make the most of morning / early afternoon energy more often.

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 12:23:14

OK, I've had a look and I can't see any plain black or blue under-the-bump leggings in New Look or Next or Mothercare. The cheapest ones I can find are Seraphine at £25 each shock.

Can anyone help before I have to spend fifty whole pounds? I've got to get something soon - I've only got one pair of trousers I can bear to put on.

Ruggle Sun 02-Feb-14 12:52:54

Clarissa, I had a whole night of what felt like period cramps a couple of weeks ago. Next morning I had a very upset stomach, but once it passed the cramps disappeared. I spoke to a midwife who told me that stomach trouble can irritate the uterus causing cramps....so it may be something as innocent as that.
Good luck with the scan!

Thatsnotmyfigure Sun 02-Feb-14 13:26:30

Clarissa hope you get some rest and all is good tomorrow!!

HungryHorace Sun 02-Feb-14 13:35:29

SP, it seems that under bump leggings are almost non existent. :-/

Have you Googled for voucher codes?

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 13:58:16

Yes, the only one at the moment is free delivery. Which is something I guess!

I had some second-hand Next ones last time but I wore them to pieces. Can't even find any on eBay this time round.

Right, expensive purchase here I come!

Polkadot1 Sun 02-Feb-14 15:11:39

I got some good maternity stuff in debenhams last time- few staple pieces, then wore baggy tops! Just googled maternity leggings- assa gave them for £8- not sure what they'd be like though!

Polkadot1 Sun 02-Feb-14 15:12:04

" Asda have" that should say!

Owlysims Sun 02-Feb-14 15:44:15

Sp on the newlook website some are 'over bump' leggings and others don't go up that high are these under?! I only liked over so no idea!! smile

Thatsnotmyfigure Sun 02-Feb-14 15:56:30

Am really uptight about the scan and screening tomorrow and have been all along. I think it's partly because my last 2 friends who has scans had bad news and that's been playing on my subconscious ever since I found out. I know that sounds very negative but I just can't yet believe everything is ok. I've been super grumpy and tearful the last few days too!! Scan is 11.40 but going to drag DS to the supermarket first thing tomorrow before dropping him at a friends just because I think I'll go mad at home watching the clock! Need some moral support here lovely people!!

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 16:03:18

I think all the ones on the NL website are over, Owly - same with Asda, Polkadot1. Thanks guys, but I think I am going to have to pay out for a pair of the Seraphine ones. Grr. I wonder if it's because it's winter.

Thatsnotmyfigure, the scan is so close now. Less than 24 hours! It is natural that you are super aware of what can go wrong because of your friends. But all the chances are that everything will be fine. And being grumpy and tearful is a sign that your hormones are doing their stuff. I've been dreadful!

Thatsnotmyfigure Sun 02-Feb-14 16:31:38

Thanks secretly. It doesn't help I'm over 40- they(medical professionals) make such a fuss and I've already been put under 'Shared Care' even though I was lucky enough to have a straightforward pregnancy and birth last time.

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 16:50:31

I do empathise - it doesn't help your peace of mind when 'the great They' bang on about all the age-related possible concerns. Pregnancy is an exciting time, but can also be a stressful time. I think that anything you can do as you go along that eases your mind is beneficial.

It's a good idea to occupy yourself in the morning. The day before mine I just kept reminding myself that there was nothing I could do to change the outcome, and actually it was worse waiting and wondering. I'm sure everything will be fine, and this time tomorrow you will know that. :-)

Jenbee1 Sun 02-Feb-14 16:50:37

It looks like mother are have under the bump leggings

Jenbee1 Sun 02-Feb-14 16:51:04

Sorry mothercare

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 17:47:07

Could you do a link? I can't see them on the website.

lucyfluff Sun 02-Feb-14 18:07:20

Good luck tmrw thatsnot, everything will be fine smile I know its stressfull with all the worrying but try to relax!!

Secretly - I had a look on ebay...if you put 'Next maternity leggings' in the search bar it does bring some up. Same for New Look just have to sift out correct size and overbump smile Ive been wearing mine today and they were SO comfy!!!

Jenbee1 Sun 02-Feb-14 18:07:47

Hope that works.
Under the bump are at the bottom

lucyfluff Sun 02-Feb-14 18:08:03

Meant underbump!!

Owlysims Sun 02-Feb-14 18:13:06

Good luck for scans tomorrow guys, I know it's difficult not to worry (I can't stop!! Only a week to wait at least and a weekend away for dd's bday next weekend so should take my mind off it!!) but it'll be here soon and you'll hopefully be put at ease! At least for a while grin.

Hope the legging shopping improves!!

Just finished 3yo dd's bday party and have a splitting headache now. Bed for me!

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 18:28:53

Thank you Jenbee. I did see those, but - and I do realise I am being annoyingly picky here - I don't want the 'ponte' style with the sticky-up seams - just something really plain and ordinary. But I really appreciate you looking!

Ooh, the police have just pulled up across the road. Bit interesting for our road on a Sunday!

PinaColadas Sun 02-Feb-14 18:31:48

Newlook have seamless leggings

weeza13 Sun 02-Feb-14 19:01:20

Thanks owlysims for the link, took me a while to figure it out. Hello to everyone else. Have got due date for aug 3rd for baby number one so its nice to hear from others due around the same time. Tried to find maternity trousers today but was disappointed with the small selection, all shops seem to have were skinny fit trousers (not my style) may resort to ebay.

FriendofDorothy Sun 02-Feb-14 19:09:18

Try buying maternity trousers in a size 18/20. It's truly shit, especially for jeans. I had a decent pair of work trousers from Next though.

HungryHorace Sun 02-Feb-14 19:16:03

For anyone needing a single buggy only, check this deal out:

sillymeagain Sun 02-Feb-14 19:25:08

Friend. ...that's exactly what I need to do this week...couple size 18 with being just over 5ft and I think it may prove tricky. ...any recommendations for where to try for over the bump (big tum) jeans? Found some stretchy non-maternity trousers in bhs that should do for a little while in a size up but people will have to get used to me in the same things till the weather improves enough for maxi dresses!

Also have my scan this week and can so sympathise with the worry. ...can't wait for Tuesday morning so I can "know" and keeping everything crossed for all to be well!

Good luck to everyone who has scans this week.

Owlysims Sun 02-Feb-14 19:54:05

Yah no worries weeza! Glad you found us at last! Couldn't think how else to explain unless I came round to your house and clicked the link for you wink glad you're here!

New look does plus sizes normally doesn't it? So doesn't it also do it in maternity? Or that would be just silly! But then again shops can be quite silly! smile

HungryHorace Sun 02-Feb-14 19:56:05

I think NL has larger maternity sizes. Bloody good range too.

Good luck for all the scans this week. I can totally sympathise with the worry as that was me last week.

onion19632 Sun 02-Feb-14 19:58:12

FriendofDorothy - bit late but my daughter had chickenpox just after Christmas but I was told by the Dr and midwife that because I had already had it there was no reason to worry, so fingers crossed.
Re jeans, I bought under bump ones last time from next which were truly awful and would literally just fall down at times! I then went out and bought some over bump trousers (not until I was about 7 months pregnant) and they were just the most comfortable things ever! Lesson learned smile

onion19632 Sun 02-Feb-14 20:01:04

...also only 2 more sleeps until my scan lol. Seems to have taken forever!

TheOnlySeven Sun 02-Feb-14 20:08:49

Would you mind if I join you? I'm 27 and this is DC4. I'm only 9+4 and not due until 3rd September, but other 3 were born a month early, 35+5, 35+6 and 35+4, needless to say I'm anticipating an August baby rather than a September one! I've got my scan booked for the 19th so I'll probably be behind everyone else but hope you'll still have me smile

FWiW from past experience over bump jeans are so comfy but under bump ones really aren't. Next are pretty good, they do plus size ones which also come in petite lengths. I'm going shopping on Wednesday so will dig out my old ones first to see if they still fit!

TheOnlySeven Sun 02-Feb-14 20:10:00

Meant to say my other DCs will be 6, nearly 3 and 16 months. Is a one else crazy enough to have 3 under 3? grin

FriendofDorothy Sun 02-Feb-14 20:23:30

Next do over the bump jeans in size 18 and 20 but they always seem to be out of stock which is frustrating.

sillymeagain we have our scan on Tuesday too - 9am.

weeza13 Sun 02-Feb-14 20:31:15

I had constant period like cramps for first two weeks and spent every day expecting the worst as no one had warned me about it. They did stop but still sometimes have twinges that make me have a mini panic. Had 12 wk scan and all was fine so I am sure you will be ok its just one of those things that people have but no one mentions. Wishing you all the best

TheOnlySeven Sun 02-Feb-14 20:34:21

Cramps are often caused by the ligament around the uterus stretching. I had a mc between my DDs and no cramps whatsoever, it's not always something bad.

weeza13 Sun 02-Feb-14 20:41:06

Meant small selection as in not much choice, not small in size, just want some comfy trousers because I end up sitting on floor a lot in my job. Love putting my baggy joggers on when I get home... Bliss

mssleepyhead Sun 02-Feb-14 21:12:35

OnlySeven - I'm due in August but my scan isn't until 17 February so you're not that far behind! Welcome : )

TheOnlySeven Sun 02-Feb-14 21:14:38

Thanks sleepy smile

sillymeagain Sun 02-Feb-14 21:14:51

Oh friendof Dorothy I have just checked next and if you change the colour to "inky" they have the bigger but shorter sizes.

Guess I shall be ordering from there if all is well on Tuesday...guess we both maybe. ..fingers crossed.

Does anyone else have a problem with dairy at the moment, makes me feel so sick for hours afterwards. Little concerned about my lack of calcium intake

Secretlypregnant Sun 02-Feb-14 21:17:11

Hello, TheOnlySeven, and congratulations! How have you been feeling?

I have some over the bump jeans from last time, but I couldn't stand them until I was quite big! (And I have to try to find them in the lost world that is our loft.)

TheOnlySeven Sun 02-Feb-14 21:35:16

I'm feeling surprisingly well. I don't have the usual early pregnancy exhaustion, and only been sick once, which is a huge relief after sickness at least once a week right until the end with DC3. I've also normally gone off tea by now which I haven't yet.

TheOnlySeven Sun 02-Feb-14 21:38:45

silly if you scroll down to the bottom of this page there's a list of non-dairy sources of calcium. Could soy milk and yoghurts be worth a try?

Although it's bloody expensive the Seraphine range is lovely-can't remember who was looking at their leggings. My friend just have me her old mat clothes including a pair of yoga trousers and a matching top and they are the softest, most gorgeous clothes I've had in ages! I probably wouldn't be able to pay for them though so I'm lucky she have them to me.

BunnyBaby Sun 02-Feb-14 22:16:38

Ooh loving all the clothes hints and tips. I love Next as others say, they do long and short and theres enough there to order most of it from the catalogue, try on at home, and send back what you don't like, so I find easier than shop traipsing. I find under bump with belt loops are the best at the moment, as the belt stops them falling down, and they don't feel tight under :-)

We've had a busy day sorting Ds1 & Ds2 bedroom (6 & 3) which involved and IKEA trip and almost didn't fit most things in.

I tried to help DH with assembly, taking a lot of care, but still ended up all pulled muscles and uncomfortable, the hormones and relaxin seem to have really kicked in.

Still 10 days to scan (when I'll be 12+2), but sore boobs and nausea are making me feel comfortable, also the tiny bit of spotting seems to have eased now uterus heading onwards and upwards.

For those worrying about symptoms, don't, today I had my best day energy wise since the BFP, they really seem to fluctuate and placenta taking over and lots are seeing the ease now.

Off to be, shattered!

Will be catching up on the scan news tomorrow and this week! How exciting and good luck :-)

mssleepyhead Sun 02-Feb-14 22:20:59

Under bump jeans and leggings... I know I'm only 11 weeks but given where my bump is right now I think under bumps would be indecent ; ) hoping it starts heading upwards soon...

FriendofDorothy Sun 02-Feb-14 22:36:58

Sillyme - I noticed they had the other colour in stock to I have ordered and 18 & 20 to try on

Ruggle Mon 03-Feb-14 08:13:06

Bit of advice about ordering from Seraphine. They often show items on their website that appear to be in stock. You go ahead and order and then aftervit has been processed they tell you it is out of stock. If you need to return anything (which I did after my mmc) they take around a month to process the refund and don't send any updates so you end up chasing them all the time and have to listen to their lies abouy not having received your package when in fact you have a Royal Mail delivery receipt. They'll even ask you to send as proof to prolong their stalling tactics. I thought mine was a one off case but found many more on Trustpilot.
John Lewis stock Seraphine clothes online. Their returns procedure might be less traumatic!
With ASOS and JoJooMamanBebe I had my refunds within 5 and 7 days...and no fuss at all.

Owlysims Mon 03-Feb-14 08:29:18

Good luck for any scans today, had awful nights sleep sat and made the mistake of having a nap yesterday afternoon which resulted in another bad night last night hmm roll on bedtime I'm so tired!!

londonchick Mon 03-Feb-14 08:42:48

Thanks Owly! My scan is in an hour. Fingers crossed!

Good luck to the others today

Good luck to all those being scanned today smile

I am 14+1 today and had to cave and announce it on Facebook last night which I didn't really want to do but turns out DH's family are incapable of keeping quiet until we had told all the family in person, so we were both incredibly pissed off and decided to just announce it to everyone in one go.

My symptoms were almost gone but now from about 5pm onwards I have this horrible travel sickness feeling which lasts all night peaking at about 10pm and the only thing that takes it away is constant eating which then has a knock on effect with my inability to sleep due to a full tummy! Grrrr.

HungryHorace Mon 03-Feb-14 09:25:15

Owly, crap night here too. :-/ Thank god DD is a late riser!

I've also managed to trap a nerve or something in my neck and it hurts to turn my head. Hmmm.

I'm feeling queasy this morning. Sickness is apparently making a return. Not keen on that!

Good luck for all the scans today. :-)

Our cot bed is coming today. Have to decide where to put it as it's not being built yet!

CountdownBegins Mon 03-Feb-14 09:41:45

Good luck with the scans today ladies!

Another one here with a rubbish nights sleep...

flymo79 Mon 03-Feb-14 09:43:28

good luck for the scans today! looking forward to more good news.
Had a very tiring weekend and am suffering today, sickness is back (I'm 14+2) and have a stinky cold.
Also heard on Friday that our team is being restructured. I'm so cross. DP says that at least they will have to offer me same/similar to what I am doing at the moment, due to mat. leave, but I am quite confused by it all, especially as the restructure will affect all of us. If anyone can help/advise that would be great. There are four of us who do a similar level job. If they don't get the restructure sorted until the summer (i.e. clarify what the new jobs will be and who can go for them), what if I go off on mat. leave before I can apply for/interview for my old job or whatever is being offered?

sorry for long ramble, just in a bit of a panic!!

PinaColadas Mon 03-Feb-14 11:00:47

Flymo Do you have a decent HR dept? I'd definately get them involved and see where you stand, but as far as I understand they have to offer you something the same legally. I remember a lady who was on Mat leave during one of our restructures and there weren't enough jobs for people but she was allocated on automatically and didn't have to worry. Hope it's ok, this is all you need!

Good luck for scans today all.

Hungry I too ordered a cot and matress from kiddicare sooooooo cheap! Managed to convince DH even though he didn't want to buy furniture til after 20 week, it was too good an offer to refuse and the mattress was half price too!

londonchick Mon 03-Feb-14 11:06:29

Back from my scan! All good. Baby was wriggling about all over the place! Been put back a week though so now only 12weeks tomorrow. New EDD 19/08. Will update list when I'm at the laptop later or tomorrow!

Secretlypregnant Mon 03-Feb-14 11:14:30

Good luck to all being scanned today - looking forward to hearing about it!

Secretlypregnant Mon 03-Feb-14 11:14:57

Ooh, cross post! Congratulations, Londonchick! Lovely lovely news!

Owlysims Mon 03-Feb-14 12:24:31

Great news London chick!! smile

HungryHorace Mon 03-Feb-14 13:01:19

Excellent, lovely news Londonchick.

Piña, we didn't get a mattress as they don't quite have the equivalent of the one we've got for DD. I need to set up a Baby Plan with Mothercare for the Isofix base and the mattress which we will pay off when we've sold our current pram, car seat and Isofix base.

londonchick Mon 03-Feb-14 13:14:53

Thanks!! Have enjoyed telling family this morning. Back to work now though. Boo!!

flymo79 Mon 03-Feb-14 13:24:57

thanks Pina - that's reassuring. It's good to hear stories where people haven't been totally shafted during mat. leave. It's made me quite paranoid about the timing of it all... someone said (not very helpfully) 'sounds like the sort of thing they do to get rid of someone'.

lucyfluff Mon 03-Feb-14 13:40:37

Great news London grin glad it all went well.

Im feeling really sicky again today, thought it had eased off but no every couple of hours it hits me if my tummy is empty. I suppose its an excuse to eat junk food!!!

Finnable Mon 03-Feb-14 13:42:44

Just checking in all - so lovely to hear of scans and shopping! I'm still 9 days away from my scan, and it's dragging! My belly is big and sticky out already, I had a nice pair of over the bump jeans from Dorothy Perkins, they're perfect apart from the length, they seem to be cut for a giant!
One lesson to go then I'm off to peruse the Kiddicare website...

PinaColadas Mon 03-Feb-14 14:08:16

Hungry I had absolutely no idea about mattress buying, I can't exactly ask the baby do you want it to be firm or soft? Hows your back? which is what i'd do for myself haha, so just went for one not too expensive that was well rated.

Flymo I wouldn't worry at all, If the worst came to the worst you could take them straight to a tribunal for getting rid of you because of your pregnancy, my friend did it 6/7 years ago, there is a pregnancy discrimination act, im sure she got about 12k!!

flymo79 Mon 03-Feb-14 14:18:39

thanks Pina, I've a feeling if they're restructuring the whole department that wouldn't count as singling me out though, with three other people in the same boat it's not going to look as though they tried to get rid of me. I prob. need to call the employment helpline or something....

WeeJo08 Mon 03-Feb-14 14:28:24

Haven't had a chance to look through all the posts. My weekend did NOT go as planned hmm Mum & I had booked to go to a gorgeous spa hotel from yesterday to today but first Mum came down with a tummy bug then my DH then me confused So no hotel stay & feeling horrendous. Feeling very sorry for myself - sorry for the moan.

Hope everyone had a good weekend & scans went/are going well x

PinaColadas Mon 03-Feb-14 14:29:29

Hmm i'd still say that you could say pregnancy was the reason they chose you over others, would be worth a try, but I don't think it will come to that and i'll keep everything crossed for you that it doesn't. Yes that might give you some reassurance, it must be worrying on top of other worries.

PinaColadas Mon 03-Feb-14 14:31:52

Aww Jo thats really poo sad (err just realised what I wrote there.... should I change it from 'poo' to 'rubbish'?... i'm going to leave it....)

Hope you're feeling better, can you rearrange the Spa? Hope you can, get well soon xx

lucyfluff Mon 03-Feb-14 14:36:14

grin pina!!!

Hope your feeling a bit better now Jo?? what a nightmare!!

flymo79 Mon 03-Feb-14 14:38:35

oh weeJo, that's so unfortunate!! I'm so sorry. It's bad enough having to put up with everything without having to cancel things you are looking forward to and make you feel good. I second Pina, rebook it or treat yourself to a massage near by at a salon or something when you're feeling better.
Thanks for the advice Pina, really appreciate it, and thanks for reassuring me. In a moany monday 'poor me' kind of a mood today, even tough I've no reason other than paranoia!

PinaColadas Mon 03-Feb-14 14:45:48

I'd be absolutely the same, I'm a worrier! I'm sure it will be fine though, keep us posted.

On the subject of worrying... I saw an article on Facebook about threads in babies socks cutting off the circulation in their toes and babies losing toes because of it... subsequently when I next saw DH I gave him a quick warning about it for our future little one and he was taking the absolute pi*s out of me, he said i've taken it to a whole other level worrying about our baby thats months away from being born losing it's toes from stray threads in its socks. He is probably right to be fair...

WeeJo08 Mon 03-Feb-14 14:55:27

Thanks ladies, and Pina I really laughed at your poo comment grin I'm glad you left it in!

We managed to cancel in time so we aren't out any money plus we can re-book for another weekend. Definitely going to re-book for a Sunday night though - I think staying in a hotel on a Sunday night is one of life's great luxuries grin Nothing beats that "Haha! Everyone's at work!" feeling on a Monday!

Trying to psyche myself up to get up & have a shower - I know it'll make me feel better but the bathroom is just. So. Far. Away. (It's the next room).

HungryHorace Mon 03-Feb-14 14:58:34

I can safely say I've never worried about DD's socks maiming her. And I'm a worrier! :-)

Piña, DD has this mattress: www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-70-x-140cm-Cot-Bed-Spring-Interior-Mattress-with-Spacetec-and-COOLMAX-freshFX/266208,default,pd.html

Kiddicare doesn't quite have an equivalent, so we will just get that one again. For us, it's the breathable / keeping cool aspect which is important.

Sorry you've been ill Jo. I hope you're all feeling better now. I agree that you should rebook too.

PinaColadas Mon 03-Feb-14 15:09:01

Ooh heck now I'm worried (ha) i've gone for a too simple one, I didn't think there was much to a mattress. Bit late now oops, hopefully the one we got will be ok

HungryHorace Mon 03-Feb-14 15:25:13

I'm sure it'll be fine. :-)

I wouldn't worry too much. We originally got that one as we were meant to have a donated cot bed so spent more on the mattress. We then had to buy a cot bed as it was evident the donated one wasn't going to come in time.

I went for the cheapest cot bed and it's actually really sturdy, so I'm glad we did as anything else would've been more money spent than was necessary. And we hadn't budgeted for it as it was.

wejammin Mon 03-Feb-14 15:26:42

Just checking in! Lovely to hear of all the new scans.

I bought underbump jeans thinking it would be too hot in summer for overbump ones, I hope they don't fall down. DS is a winter baby so all my maternity stuff is knitwear which will be no good this time, aaargh!

Having a very lazy afternoon, have stuck Cbeebies on and DS has got every.single.toy out, but I totally overdid it at the weekend entertaining family and taking DS swimming this morning, and I feel completely exhausted. Need to remember to slow down!

PinaColadas Mon 03-Feb-14 15:29:10

I'll have to see what it's like tomorrow when it arrives, maybe we should try and swap it for a more expensive sprung one. DH is going to love saying told you so for rushing into it... :D

WeeJo08 Mon 03-Feb-14 15:33:29

Stop the press. I am out of bed. grin

mszeen Mon 03-Feb-14 15:34:57

checking in smile

eeyore2911 Mon 03-Feb-14 15:37:22

I'm still hovering in this group even though I should be chucked out at EDD now 23rd July with the threat of induction on 2nd due to twin factor lol!! grin

Hello all. We are a poorly house at the moment, and DD woke us all up at 4.30 with her coughing and then didn't/wouldn't/couldn't go back to sleep, so given that I didn't go to sleep in the first place till 1.30 I am a bit of a mess today! Any tips for getting through the afternoon without resorting to espresso?

flymo79 Mon 03-Feb-14 16:28:53

aw, sorry to hear you are all poorly antoinette. I suggest drinking lots of very cold water, interspersed with hot lemon and honey. Very soothing.

ClarissaG Mon 03-Feb-14 16:31:02

so pleased and relieved - the baby was virtually back flipping on the scan picture, all over the place and heart beating away. bang on 12+3. DH was getting irritated at how much I worried before hand and how negative I was being - he was right. Now an evening of telling my parents, brother, in laws etc smile

Cazbg Mon 03-Feb-14 16:43:01

Congratulations to all those with scans today! Just had our scan and all was fine except the little bean wouldn't stay still. 12+6 so just where we expected : ) crazy when u can see it moving all over the place but can't feel it. Just had a pie e of came to celebrate. We are telling close family but waiting till Friday to tell the rest as the have said that if there is anything wrong with the downs test they will let us know by then. My nt reading was 2.3mm which the sonographer seemed quite happy with. Really want to get excited just a few more days : )

QueenOfGeeks Mon 03-Feb-14 18:42:48

Glad to hear all the good scan news, have been a bit absent from the thread as things have been manic here.

My scan is tomorrow morning so getting a bit nervous now, hope I manage to get a good night's sleep.

Rootvegetables Mon 03-Feb-14 19:32:16

Glad everyone has had lovely scans, Clarissa I hope your mind is put at rest now too! I've got mine in the morning and hoping to see both babies happily back flipping! Good luck anyone else with scans tomorrow.

Secretlypregnant Mon 03-Feb-14 19:44:46

Are those who've had their scans going to come and join us on the secret Facebook group?

flusteredmumto2 Mon 03-Feb-14 19:47:56

Just a pop in. Scan tomorrow and I'm starting to get stupidly nervous. I have a tummy now ( more so tgan usual anyway) and dp is getting very excited as its his first. He can't be with me for the scan as he works away most the time so I think that's making me worse as I'll be on my own. Its not till 2.30 so lots of thumb twiddling will be done as no college tomorrow.

Thatsnotmyfigure Mon 03-Feb-14 20:18:09

Scan went well - baby somersaulted into perfect position and we heard the heartbeat too. All still seems slightly surreal! Still going to wait for full nuchal result before telling the world due to my age and my friend's experience but sonographer did say the nuchal result by itself was good! Phew! Looking forward to a much better night sleep tonight! Glad others OK too!
I did question the changing of my due date as they've made it 6 days earlier even though I know my LMP and ovualtion date. It'll affect induction timings and birth centre criteria just like last time, but that's not a battle I'm going to fight today. It can wait...

Thatsnotmyfigure Mon 03-Feb-14 20:18:39

What's the facebook group all about?!

Owlysims Mon 03-Feb-14 20:27:17

Great news that'snotmyfigure smile

Secretlypregnant Mon 03-Feb-14 20:32:07

That's great news! So pleased for you.

The fb page is a totally private group just for people on this thread - your fb friends couldn't see anything of it. If you want to join it, just mumsnet message anyone who is on it with your email address.

Secretlypregnant Mon 03-Feb-14 20:33:24

Did they say how long till you get the full results?

sillymeagain Mon 03-Feb-14 20:53:55

How many of us have scans tomorrow. ...think I have counted 5 or 6 of us! Should be a busy day. Here's hoping and keeping everything crossed we all have good news, wiggly babies and lovely pics.

Mines at 8am....won't have time to be nervous trying to sort my other 3 out in time!

Good luck everyone xx

Heatherbell1978 Mon 03-Feb-14 20:59:40

Been loitering for a few weeks so can I join this group?! My scan is tomorrow, Tuesday and DD us 17/08 (unless they change it tomorrow). Can't quite believe there is a little person in there.....had the 'usual' symptoms ie tiredness, nausea and sore boobs since about 5 weeks but had a m/c in November at 6 weeks so pretty anxious about tomorrow:-(

Fell pregnant again immediately after m/c so it's been a roller-coaster few months......oh and I'm 36 and this is my firstsmile

Thatsnotmyfigure Mon 03-Feb-14 21:49:30

Should get results within a week secretly. Thanks for asking! Good luck to everyone for tomorrow - and wishing you a decent nights sleep too ;)

Thatsnotmyfigure Mon 03-Feb-14 21:50:39

Wow heather bell that is a roller coaster. Hope tomorrow makes it all seem more real and happening for you! Good luck!!

Thatsnotmyfigure Mon 03-Feb-14 21:52:45

Crumbs sillyme what time will you be getting up?! Good luck with the organisational side of things too! Thought it was hard enough today organising toddler and hubby to be in the right place (and fed) at the right time!

Good luck scan people. Enjoy!!! It's truly magic seeing that little person.

mssleepyhead Mon 03-Feb-14 22:41:13

Good luck on tomorrow's scans and well done to everyone who had good news today : ) 2 weeks now, till mine. Getting anxious already! But also feeling ever so slightly less tired today, at 11 weeks. Hoping that's a sign of good things to come! Now if my evening nausea would just shift : ) look forward to checking in tomorrow and seeing how its gone for everyone!

Secretlypregnant Tue 04-Feb-14 07:32:58

Good luck to all those having scans, and welcome heatherbell. Lots going on today!

I went to bed at 8pm last night and dh just woke me up with tea and toast in bed. Dd looking at books in her cot and singing. Love mornings like this!

HungryHorace Tue 04-Feb-14 08:05:32

Hi Heather. :-)

Good luck for the scans today.

I've had yet another shit night's sleep. Joy. :-/

Secretlypregnant Tue 04-Feb-14 08:11:59

Oh hungry, sorry you had a rotten night. Will you get any chance to nap today? When dd naps maybe? I think my rubbish night's sleep the night before was what made me feel so rubbish yesterday evening. I still forget that my body isn't going to react in quite the same way as normal!

HungryHorace Tue 04-Feb-14 08:34:09

I've never really been a napper. I tend to wake feeling grotty.

But I'll see how I feel later. I may succumb to a doze!

And yes, I'm sure that's why you felt rough. It's do unfair that I feel like I'm hungover half the time without having touched a drop. :-/

Owlysims Tue 04-Feb-14 08:48:26

Oh hungry sorry you've had a crap night, although my advice would be don't nap! I made that mistake on Sunday following a bad night and then I had an even worse night on Sunday!!!

Good luck to all then scans today!!! smilesmile

Owlysims Tue 04-Feb-14 08:48:40

The not then!!

Secretlypregnant Tue 04-Feb-14 08:57:18

By my reckoning there are SEVEN scans today! Think that might be a record! So good luck to:

2beornot Tue 04-Feb-14 09:00:24

Morning! Been. Bit of a whirlwind few days. But got nuchal results back yesterday - 1:12205 which is pretty low risk. Easy to say now, but I am glad I had it done after all.

Scans are coming very quickly now - I can't believe it's only 6 weeks til my next one!

Owlysims Tue 04-Feb-14 09:04:50

Great news 2be! I hope I am similarly assured next week, feels strange as didn't have it with dd so don't know what to expect!! Has everyone waited for their results before announcing pregnancy?! Just curious!

HungryHorace Tue 04-Feb-14 09:09:49

Brilliant news, 2be. You can get on with your day now. :-)

lucyfluff Tue 04-Feb-14 09:11:16

Great news on the scans yesterday and good luck to all of the ladies going today! I cant believe that many smile

We had a crappy night here too, DS cough is so bad im off to docs in a min with him...its heartbreaking watching them trying to sleep and coughing sad

On a good note I dont feel as sicky today thank god! I realise ive tempted fate now!!

I will be announcing pg before blood results, I think they take two wks to come bk but hopefully all will be fine.

FriendofDorothy Tue 04-Feb-14 09:42:06

12 week scan all fine. Just one baby in there. Phew!

HungryHorace Tue 04-Feb-14 10:02:52

Wonderful news, Friend. And I had that relief about only having one too! :-)

So, tiredness leads to morning sickness. Almost threw up on the bedroom floor. That would've been a bit grim.

Lucy, I hope your DS is feeling better soon. It's awful seeing them unwell, isn't it?

PinaColadas Tue 04-Feb-14 10:06:34

Great news friend smile

2beornot What date was your scan? I'm past the week that they said they would ring me if there was anything to worry about, but still waiting for letter with the 1:xxx and still at the back of my mind. they said any more than 1:300 they would just send a letter

WeeJo08 Tue 04-Feb-14 10:35:03

Morning everyone! Great news on the scans so far grin I am feeling 100% better today thank goodness - makes such a difference! Hoping to get lots of work done & feel productive smile

2beornot Tue 04-Feb-14 10:40:43

Piña - scan date was 24th Jan. They said they'd phone with days if it was high risk, or if not a letter within 2 weeks. Hopefully your letter is just slow and it's not a cock up at their end!

PinaColadas Tue 04-Feb-14 10:55:34

Mine was 22nd Jan, Maybe they're just being slow, yes they said the same to me, its 2 weeks tomorrow since my scan.

Can't believe how many scans are today, its very exciting!

flymo79 Tue 04-Feb-14 10:59:41

Great to have so many scans happening today!
Has anyone had an appointment for their 20 week yet?? wishful thinking???!

glad you're feeling better weeJo!
Pina, mine was 21 Jan and I got the letter on thursday last week, it was a relief to see it in writing but not having had the call is a very very good sign.

BunnyBaby Tue 04-Feb-14 11:01:51

Loving all the scan updates! What a busy day :-)

I'm also feeling more energy which is good, but nausea still taking me by surprise too - agree worse at night - boo!

1wk 1day to scan - squee!

2beornot Tue 04-Feb-14 11:02:41

Flymo-I booked mine on the way out of the 12 weeks one. It's on 19th march when I'll be 21 weeks exactly!

lucyfluff Tue 04-Feb-14 11:02:57

Thanks hungry...yes its horrible not being able to help the. GP checked him over and as per usual its a virus ontop of the last one sad hes so bad being sick when he coughs wish it would just bugger off!!!!

Great news on your scan friend smile

flymo79 Tue 04-Feb-14 11:14:07

wow! congrats on having a 20 week scan date 2beornot, it's great that you could book while you were there. A bit sickening having to wait for a letter to come through!!
I did get my wretched glucose tolerance test date through though, it's at 28 weeks (in May) which feels very far away. SO hoping I've stopped feeling so ill in the mornings by then!

Great news on the scan friend - short but sweet! smile

HungryHorace Tue 04-Feb-14 11:17:49

I've also booked my 20 week scan. It's on 26th March when I'll be 20+6. We always book the next one while we are there at my hospital.

I don't envy anyone the GTT.

Is everyone having the whooping cough jab later on?

Secretlypregnant Tue 04-Feb-14 11:18:43

Flymo, I booked mine on the way out of the 12 week too - date is 21st March. But the next date for me is the 18th Feb - next midwife appointment and listening for the heartbeat!

HungryHorace Tue 04-Feb-14 11:32:05

I'm 24th Feb for that, Secretly. Can't wait!

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie Tue 04-Feb-14 11:34:08

Pina mine took two weeks to arrive, so it might be in today's post for you smile If not, maybe give your hospital/GP a call to see if they've had the results?

PinaColadas Tue 04-Feb-14 11:39:25

Might have to give them a quick tinkle if its not arrived by Friday, but seems like a good sign it's taking so long.

I booked next Midwife apt at scan, 19th Feb, i'll be 17+5, and my 20 week scan is 20th March where i'll be 21+6!! I got a letter through for this 2 days after my scan which was promt unlike my nuchal result...

flymo79 Tue 04-Feb-14 11:41:57

ooh, exciting to have next scan dates!! I've an appointment with the midwife on 17th, just under two weeks! How do they listen to the heartbeat, is it a doppler or a small ultrasound scanner?

2beornot Tue 04-Feb-14 11:43:13

Ooh yes - midwife booked for 13th March. Really hope she can find the heartbeat! I love that sound.

Not got a gtt test date but I know I'll need to do it. Hoping to book a private 4d scan for 28-30 weeks too. I did it with dd and loved it, plus I thought it'd be nice for dd to come and have a look at baby as I don't want to take her to the nhs ones just in case.

Secretlypregnant Tue 04-Feb-14 11:44:53

I think they use a doppler, flymo. I only had it at the first appointment last time though, so it's casting my mind back a bit!

londonchick Tue 04-Feb-14 11:51:28

Great to hear all about the scans! I'm a high risk pregnancy so I have a Consultant review rather than midwife appointment on 28th feb and then 20 week scan on 28th March. All my appointments were sent through after my booking in appointment.

Just wondering if I will get to hear the heartbeat at 16weeks if I am seeing a consultant and not a midwife. I'll be a bit miffed if not!!

PinaColadas Tue 04-Feb-14 11:55:55

Has anyone bought a dopper? My SIL has and admitted she got a bit obsessed with it, she has calmed down now but I think I'd get the same. A lot of people have warned you're often picking up your own HB!

Mummytobeandsoanxious2014 Tue 04-Feb-14 12:23:45

Congratulations on all the good scans smile

onion19632 Tue 04-Feb-14 12:34:54

Scan went well this morning and only one baby (after having dreams about twins all night!) Baby would not stay still which was a contrast to my daughter who gave us beautiful scan pictures! I also booked my 20 week scan whilst I was there and it is on 31st March!
Hope everyone else's scans today go well

QueenOfGeeks Tue 04-Feb-14 12:55:43

Congratulations on all the other scans.

Mine was fine although they had to have a second go as baby would not stay in the right position. Also got to book 20 week scan on way out. Do just need to wait for the results to be sent through although they said the measurement was normal.

Rootvegetables Tue 04-Feb-14 13:23:17

Hello, my scan was great 2 babies in their doing what they should be, I thought they must have got it wrong at my early scan but it really is twins! Glad al the others have gone well too. I don't know how to add myself to the list but I'm 32 have a 2 yr old ds and twins are due 14th august eek.

flymo79 Tue 04-Feb-14 13:40:56

congrats Rootveg! must be so exciting to be carrying two - I'm a twin and it's super-awesome!!
congrats too to queen and onion

How exciting lots of happy news scans coming through nice and fast now. My scan is tomorrow and the past week has been hell waiting. Thankfully it's early so won't have time to worry in the morning (8:30am). I just want to have a nap now and wake up to find its tomorrow morning. Been starting to feel better too which isn't helping my worry much but have to keep reminding myself this is normal and so much better than if I got stuck with MS the whole 9 months.
Is there anyone else have a scan tomorrow like me?

Thatsnotmyfigure Tue 04-Feb-14 13:56:16

Great news on the scans!! That's fantastic!

Owlysims Tue 04-Feb-14 13:56:59

Great news on the scans guys smile

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie Tue 04-Feb-14 15:01:00

Yay, all these scans are going well!

I've got my 16w midwife appointment on the 17th Feb then my 20w scan booked for 18th March, I'll be 20+3 - managed to book it straight after my booking in appointment, which feels like it was ages ago now! Anyone else feel time is going a lot quicker now their 12w scan is out the way?

CakenTea Tue 04-Feb-14 15:19:44

Hi Everyone,

I joined right at the beginning but I've been lurking on this thread for a little while as seriously had the fear about my scan!!

It was today and it was absolutely fine, I am so thrillled and relived! eI don't even care that I have a terrible scan picture as baby mostly wanted to show it's bum- they even gave me my 10 of scan tokens back to use again for the 20 week pictures!

Due 12th August which is about what I thought (a week off what my middwife thought- didn't believe me about weird cycles!!) Next scan booked already for 25th March.

Massive congrats to everyone who has had good news today, there are a lot of us. I have re-added myself!!

flymo79 Tue 04-Feb-14 15:22:37

ItsSo, I wish! I feel as though time has been dragging ever since my bfp! you get one momentary reprieve from the dread with a scan or MW appointment when it all feels real and then it's back to the waiting game. it's only on weekends when I feel time is going quickly, dagnammit!!

flymo79 Tue 04-Feb-14 15:27:48

Great news cakentea!!

PinaColadas Tue 04-Feb-14 16:02:40

Loving all the fabulous news! Today definately gets the record for most scans.
I'm find time is going quicker now although 20 week scan seems like a lifetime away!

DuPainDuVinDuFromage Tue 04-Feb-14 16:19:42

Great news on all the scans! We really are moving into the next stage now, aren't we? I've started thinking about logistics re. cots, prams etc - do we use what we've got or will DD still need it, or should we get a double buggy, etc etc...

I've started telling people at work and have already had two people say "Was it planned?" angry Of course I smiled sweetly and answered the question, while wishing I could call them out on their rudeness! Can't really complain though as the reactions have all been congratulatory and I know some people have stories of friends being upset or angry when they are told.

22honey Tue 04-Feb-14 16:29:51

Hi all, thought I'd post here I'm 22 I've been lurking on this thread for several weeks, I've been an absolute nervous wreck since finding out I was pregnant just before NYE! I had an ectopic pregnancy last July which had a subsequent twin in the right place (after about 18 months of ttc!), I obviously lost both babies and it was an utterly awful experience that went on for about a month or more with trips to the hospital, methoxtrate (sp?) injection that made me feel like crap...it was my first pregnancy and I was devastated at losing it, I wasnt feeling good about being pregnant again and was convinced it was more bad news, I felt like I just didnt want a scan and didnt want to know as it was so awful last time I had one...the anxiety this morning and last night really came to ahead, nervewracking!

But today the long wait was over and I had my 12 week scan, am 12+2 weeks due around 14th August and baby was fine and moving about loads! Even got a free picture and am feeling so happy but worrying yet again something will happen during the next 8 weeks till the 20 week scan...guess its just motherhood and I'll be worrying for the rest of my life...was amazing and so sweet seeing my little baby moving around inside me and he/she looks so cute on the picture like they have a big smile on their face despite obviously still being a tiny bub!

Just wanted to share my happy news with everyone here and congratulations on the good scans you have all had :D Me and DP are over the moon, now its just dealing with the overenthusiastic inlaws, but thats for another thread!!

Wishing anyone with a scan coming up the best of luck :D xxxx

2beornot Tue 04-Feb-14 16:39:39

22honey - welcome!! Many congratulations, it must have been a long 12 weeks, but you're over one major hurdle! It's so lovely to see them moving about on the screen, isn't it?!

22honey Tue 04-Feb-14 16:46:53

2beornot yes it was really long and I've been feeling really rough the entire time aswell, I managed to cope by trying not to think much about being pregnant, but once all the appointments start and with the scan looming today, its pretty impossible not to think about it !

It is lovely I found it crazy seeing it moving around yet iv barely a bump and cant feel it. Luckily she told me there was a good heartbeat pretty much as soon as she put the US on my belly, so that calmed me quite a bit, the best part though was seeing the baby and getting the photo!

Thanks for the welcome smile

londonchick Tue 04-Feb-14 16:58:23

My sonographer told me about the heartbeat straight away too so that really helped! I thought it'd take ages!!

mssleepyhead Tue 04-Feb-14 17:04:03

Damn. Totally just bought a Doppler. Stupid amazon gift certificate and £19 Doppler! I know know know it's a bad idea and it'll worry me more than anything... But... It'll be nice. If it works.

This two week wait for my scan is killing me. If another person smiles sweetly and tells me it'll be fine I might just punch them. It's not that easy! Sigh.

But! Thrilled to hear about all the good scans today. Great news everyone!! X

Finnable Tue 04-Feb-14 17:14:53

So lovely reading of all your scan news today! I'm a bit jealous... Mine's a week tomorrow, coming around slowly!

Anyone bought any New Look mat jeans? If so, how long are they? I'm only 5'4" and would like some I don't have to hem!

Ruggle Tue 04-Feb-14 17:25:02

Finnable, New Look do different lengths. I've just ordered some 30" leg jeans. I'm only 5'1" but I have long legs for my height. 31" would be better but they seem only to have 28, 30, 32 and 34.

Owlysims Tue 04-Feb-14 17:34:16

Great news everyone smile

lucyfluff Tue 04-Feb-14 17:38:47

Finn we are scan date buddies smile

I know how you feel mssleepy...it feels like forever that I got a bfp...just want the scan here like now!!!!

Finnable Tue 04-Feb-14 18:15:37

Thanks Ruggle I'll have a look now! I'm not that short really, but must have stumpy legs for my height as I always have a problem...

Lucy - how exciting! What time's your appt? I will think of you!

lucyfluff Tue 04-Feb-14 18:45:08

Awww its 10.50am...to be precise smile how about you?? I think bunny is on the same day too!

I cant wait for next week to hurry up!!!!

mssleepyhead Tue 04-Feb-14 18:49:41

Ladies, sorry for the TMI moment but I've just found a bit of brown discharge in my underwear. Not much at all, a smudge really, and nothing when I wipe. I'm 11 weeks. This happened at 7 weeks and I have a scan and all was fine. How worried should I be on a scale of 1 - 10...?
Thank you x

Owlysims Tue 04-Feb-14 18:58:30

Mssleepy, how many weeks are you again? Sorry I'm crap at remembering, I had it at 8 and had a scan and then again at 10. They still wanted to scan me to check all was okay. I'm sure it's fine but I would still ring midwife for them to check for you thanks

mssleepyhead Tue 04-Feb-14 19:04:41

I'm 11 weeks. I know it's probably nothing but I am nervous. I also know this is really stupid but it's also hard for me to get time off work when the EPU is open. And I know that's really a stupid thing for me to be thinking, but I can't stop thing it.

Owlysims Tue 04-Feb-14 19:19:45

Well tbh I think it's nothing, and I'm sure all is okay BUT they did say to me even though it's happened twice and the scan was fine twice I should call if it happened again. Just to be sure. But obviously depends how you feel, how many days until your scan? Do you feel you'll worry lots? thanks

mssleepyhead Tue 04-Feb-14 19:22:16

It's still 2 weeks till my scan. I just found a place in Central London which could scan me tomorrow night but of course it's the tube strike so I don't think I could get there! I might book a scan for the weekend...

Owlysims Tue 04-Feb-14 19:38:04

I think if you can afford it a private scan would be a very good idea as I'm sure all is well but it will lay of your mind for the next two weeks and you don't want to be worry yourself for no reason! But as I say I really think all is okay smile thanksthanks

sillymeagain Tue 04-Feb-14 19:51:36

Just checking in to add my scan news. ..all is well had a wiggly baby that wouldn't keep still but meant they kepttaking pipictures and we ended up with 11 of them! Nt measurement really good and edd changed to 10 Feb so 13 + 2 now.

So happy and relieved and told thw children who were really excited.

Sounds like a record scan day ended being even more people than it started with. ..9 or 10? And I think all went well...hooray! Congratulations everyone else that had scans.

flusteredmumto2 Tue 04-Feb-14 20:09:14

Scan went great. Got to see baby bear and he had a very strong heartbeat though he was being awkward and they couldn't do the nuchal fold measurements. Guess this kind of makes ot official. In 6 months I'll have another baby! Due date has moved 3 days so now due the 16th August.

2beornot Tue 04-Feb-14 20:15:53

Hi ladies. Has a discussion with DH about finding out the sex. He wants to, is prefer not. The practical solution is to find out so we can sort out all the girls clothes we've got either way

Anyway........we've decided that we'll book a 4d private scan and take dd along too. Then we'll ask the sonographer to tell dd who can tell us!

Does that sound lovely or incredibly twee?!

mssleepyhead Tue 04-Feb-14 20:34:33

I've talked to DH and showed him my pants (seriously - what have I become?!) and we've agreed its so light it's barely there. Also stopped now. So, we're going to save our £100 and carry on as we were until the 17th. If it's bad news, it will be bad news whether we wait or not so we may as well just see what happens. Or something else sensible that DH said that I seem to have agreed with...! I just need these weeks to be over...

Abimci Tue 04-Feb-14 20:37:44

I have had such a frustrating day! Was supposed to be out of class for my planning day which we only get once every 2 weeks. Spent all morning in meetings, then got told I had to take my class swimming as the teacher who covers was out (no apology for lack of communication or reassurance I'll get the time back.) So went swimming only to find out there's a problem with the pool but they hadn't called to let the school know. So then had to come back with a class of frustrated kids, 2 of whom had a fight on the way back.

To top it off I get a call from the hospital asking why I never showed up to my scan. To which I replied that the appointment is for next Tues ( at least it is on the letter they sent me!) so she said ok i'll book you in for next week! I would have loved to have my scan today but that's pretty hard if they give me the wrong date isn't it!

So now have another weekend of lying to people who we are going out with when we could have found out today what's happening and hopefully told them. This is going to seem a very long 7 days now!

Rant over, hoping tomorrow is a better day! Glad others had a much better day and good news on scans. Think it's early night for me...

mssleepyhead Tue 04-Feb-14 20:39:21

2be - it sounds sweet! As long as dd gets it right ; )

PinaColadas Tue 04-Feb-14 20:45:58

Keep meaning to ask lucyfluff how are you getting on with new pregnancy vitamis? Still sick?

CountdownBegins Tue 04-Feb-14 20:50:39

Great to hear all the scan news from today everyone!

Ruggle how are you doing with your sickness? I seem to have one slightly good day followed by three awful days... Still being sick about three times a day aswel.

We booked our 20 week scan on the way out of our 12 week too- 25th March! Midwife appointment is on March 4th- I'm so glad February is a short month!

2beornot Tue 04-Feb-14 20:51:05

Mssleepy - I'm sure it's perfectly fine. Brown discharge is normally nothing to worry. I know it'll be a long 2 weeks though (it was for me!)

Tc80 Tue 04-Feb-14 20:58:22

Mssleepy - I had brown discharge at 6 wks and 10 wks, scanned both times and no probs, 12 week last week so far so good. Sonographer at 12 week said that the blood vessels can just burst inside in the early stages hence a bit of bleeding as so many changes happening in there. As pregnancy progresses the same thing can happen but the baby bigger so effectively it's weight pushes on the little bleeds and stops them, like pressing on a cut to stem flow of blood, which is why light bleeding can be quite common early on That was the only explanation anyone has tried to give me and I found it quite logical! Sure no ones reassurance really helps as you are the one worrying but my experience of that so far has been positive smile

Secretlypregnant Tue 04-Feb-14 20:59:43

Wow, so much lovely news! Welcome 22honey, and congratulations! It sounds as if you have really been through some hard times, but I hope the next six months will be very very easy for you. smile

Mssleepyhead I think you're doing the right thing. Quite a few people on here have had a bit of discharge like you describe - there was a thread about it on the FB page yesterday in fact. I had days of it with my first pregnancy and all was fine, and I've had a bit this time round too. I hope that you can try to put it to the back of your mind till the scan. The fact that all was well at seven weeks is hugely hugely positive.

Just really pleased for everyone. According to my nerdy list, there are 68 of us in total and 21 of us still approaching the 12 week scan.

Finnable Tue 04-Feb-14 21:22:11

Lucy Mine's at 10am - we'll be there at the same time! Eee!

Sleepy It sounds like you've just had a little capillary bleed, I hope this is the case! I'll have my fingers x'd for you.

Beor - that doesn't sound twee at all, it sounds lovely!

Secretly - I love your nerdy list. Just shown it to DH and he said he's reassured that there's someone spending even more time on MN than me... grin

Secretlypregnant Tue 04-Feb-14 21:23:42

The joys of working from home, Finnable. wink

mssleepyhead Tue 04-Feb-14 21:30:17

Thanks for being so reassuring everyone. I'm obviously thinking about it all the time and wondering if it had anything to do with my energetic cycle ride home...? Anyway. Enough now. You've all been wonderful tonight, and now I'll just see how things are tomorrow.

Good night all x

Finnable Tue 04-Feb-14 23:04:22

Please can you all say a prayer for me tonight, started bleeding bright red and heavy half an hour ago.
At the hospital now waiting to be seen.
So very very sad right now.

Secretlypregnant Tue 04-Feb-14 23:13:15

Oh Finnable, all my thoughts are with you. Is your DP there too? I hope you get seen soon, and of course I hope for the very best outcome. I wish I had something more helpful to say, but will be thinking of you tonight.

BunnyBaby Tue 04-Feb-14 23:15:53

Finnable praying, let us know how you get on, it could just be a cyst or something simple, and hopefully stop for you soon ((hug))

mel0dy Tue 04-Feb-14 23:33:07

Nother one with scan today here! Turns out am 13+2, due 10th Aug.

MrsBri Wed 05-Feb-14 05:51:21

Finnable, how are you now? I hope it wasn't anything serious. xx

Hi to Honey. I hope this pregnancy is totally uneventful.

I'm glad everyone's scans went well today. It does feel like we are moving relatively swiftly to the next stage now. Still don't always feel that pregnant though!

mssleepyhead Wed 05-Feb-14 07:07:33

Finnable - how did it go last night? I really hope you're ok x

Hope you are ok Finnable. Thinking of you.

Ruggle Wed 05-Feb-14 07:37:31

Thinking of you Finnable! x

Countdown, similar. I had 3 bad days over the weekend followed by a good day yesterday. By good I mean I only threw up first thing in the morning, but had severe nausea for the rest of the day. Kept all my food down..though didn't actually eat much. Not out of bed yet but have eaten 2 digestives and they haven't come up yet.

Dsd woke up in the middle of the night and jumped into our bed, landing on one of my (already very painful) boobs. Ouch!

lucyfluff Wed 05-Feb-14 07:46:34

Oh Finn - I hope you are ok. Hugs and Im thinking of you x

Pina - Oh yes those nasty Pregnacare were the culpritswink stopped feeling sick as soon as I stopped them!! DH got me the Sanatogen mum to be to start tonight so hoping they are ok.

Mssleepy - Hope the brown has stopped now and Im sure its nothing to worry about.

Finnable Wed 05-Feb-14 10:12:12

Morning all - just got back from the longest night at the hospital. Baby is fine and very wriggly, thank God! They have absolutely no idea why I'm bleeding though, so they've taken bloods, poked around a lot and looked baffled. Off for bed rest for me!

Thank you to everyone sending positive thoughts - as ever, I'm convinced that they help. They certainly did at 4am when I was knackered and a teary mess!

This pregnancy is so not the easy breeze all my friends told me they had - DH commented this morning that if we want more, we're adopting for the sake of our mental health.

Hope everyone else is well and has a lovely day.

PinaColadas Wed 05-Feb-14 10:16:37

Oh thank god Fin, I've been refreshing my page obsessively hoping for good news! Get yourself pampered today, it's such a roller coaster of emotions it's draining! So happy everything is ok

Owlysims Wed 05-Feb-14 10:16:59

Oh Finn that's great news smilesmilesmile

So pleased everything is fine for you finnable

Little more good news baby geek was all fine for my scan today. Sonograhper even said s/he was being very well behaved allowing easy measurement taking. Let's hope this continues after birth!

I'd like to join the fb group now (if you'll have me) who's best to send my details to?

PinaColadas Wed 05-Feb-14 10:22:39

Fab news science, pm them to me if you want, your full name or email and also let me know what your profile pic looks like so I know it's you smile

Science, if you PM me your details I'll add you. :-)

Secretlypregnant Wed 05-Feb-14 10:27:03

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie Wed 05-Feb-14 11:45:34

Oh Finn that's great news! Phew! Congrats to all the others with recent scan news!

sillymeagain Wed 05-Feb-14 12:20:20

Fantastic news finn...so pleased. ..was it you that had something similar at the end of the year and a scan on nye?

CountdownBegins Wed 05-Feb-14 12:20:31

So glad everything was ok finnable only checked in this morning and saw your post from yesterday- rest up and get some well earned sleep!

Ruggle sounds exactly the same as me- I'm resigned to throwing up every morning now- and then just hope it's not a bad day!

The tube strikes meant I had to walk so far this morning- my back is killing me!

Hope today's scans go well for everyone

RoseHoney Wed 05-Feb-14 12:29:10

You guys get through threads so fast !!
My scan is tomorrow, so nervous but hopefully all will be fine!
Hope you're all having positive news at your scans smile

UpQuarkDownQuark Wed 05-Feb-14 13:02:00

Glad to hear everyone's scans are going well!!

I had to phone the pregnancy assessment unit today as I am 11+3 and hadn't had a date yet. They said oh yeah we have your paperwork but hadn't sorted you out a appointment yet. How about Monday at 10?!?!?! Not long for me now then!

Good luck to everyone having their scans this week!

BunnyBaby Wed 05-Feb-14 13:14:43

That's great news Finn, I pottered on last night to congratulate the scans and saw your update. My SIL had something similar and it was an ovarian cyst, which then disappeared. So glad all is well.

Also very glad to see all the other oodles and bundles of successful scan results today and yesterday, very pleased for you all.

I'm told my boss today, I just struggled in through the tubs strike in an epic 2hr trip, and thought if I'm telling all next week, there's no harm in giving him an update today. He was pleased and confirmed it would not impact on our upcoming salary and pay review. I feel a bit better as would rather tell him than have someone else out me (as it's just getting too hard to hide!).

Still feeling queasy all.the.time.

flymo79 Wed 05-Feb-14 13:18:25

well done bunny, must've been a relief to tell the boss. And anyone else struggling through the tube strikes! You are all amazing!

LurkingNineToFive Wed 05-Feb-14 14:12:01

I was on this thread a while ago (TwerkingNinetoFive) but I sneaked off coz I was feeling a bit paranoid. I'm 13 weeks and I have my scan tomorrow so I thought I'd come back and start reading again. If someone can add me it dc #2 due 8th of aug.
I've been soooooo ill with this baby. I have every pregnancy/non-pregnancy symptom you could imagine. Are other people starting to feel better now?

Secretlypregnant Wed 05-Feb-14 14:19:08

Hello Lurking, welcome back! Good luck for your scan tomorrow.

I was hoping that after 12 weeks I would start to improve, but I still have nauseous days. Definitely better than I was though!

2beornot Wed 05-Feb-14 15:44:02

Arrrrgh! Stupid PGP. Had to drive 2 hours for meeting then sat down in meeting then drive back. I can barely stand upright and braking became painful.

Is this a midwife or a gp issue?

Secretlypregnant Wed 05-Feb-14 16:07:03

I think it depends on your area as to who has more power to refer you to a physio fastest. I was in terrible pain and the physio really helped - first place to look is the advice on the pelvic partnership website though. I went to see my doctor armed with that info and knew that I wanted a referral and nothing else!

2beornot Wed 05-Feb-14 16:16:52

Thanks secretly. Midwife appt is next thurs, have text her to see what the plan is for my area so hopefully she'll get back to me tomorrow.

I didn't have this at all with dd. I'm worried because I've still got 25 weeks to go and do not want it to get worse!!

Did you have it previously, secretly? How bad was it?

2beornot Wed 05-Feb-14 16:18:00

I did have a look at the pelvic partnership website too. Picked up a few tips already (like how to roll over in bed, get dressed etc)!!

BunnyBaby Wed 05-Feb-14 16:28:43

On all the PGP and SPD pains I had a very good cranial osteopath, and a reflexologist that could work on these, this really helped to keep me straight.

I'm amazed how quickly I'm loosening up this time for Baby #3, I put my feet on the pouffe to watch TV then couldn't get out of my chair later, oh the aches!

I'm trying to remember who put the very light brown spotting post up yesterday, I have had the same since 7 wks and only after a bowel movement. Given it's clear / white the rest of the time, and I still feel dreadful, I put it down to being a quirk of this pregnancy, like you I have a scan next Weds (@12+2) which should give me more peace of mind.

So tired, 2hrs in this morning and have to wait until 6pm until I begin the long, strikeful journey home...

crazylady2013 Wed 05-Feb-14 16:37:36

Congrats to all the happy scans and so glad it was good news for you Fin.
I see there are a few of us with scans tomorrow. I'm feel more excited than nervous about it. so glad it has finally arrived. Good luck for all those having scans smile .

Secretlypregnant Wed 05-Feb-14 16:39:24

Yes, 2beornot, I had it. I didn't get to the point of crutches as some do, but it was painful enough to make me cry if I moved in the wrong way, and it stopped me from doing a lot of things. However, I had a great physio who gave me a series of 5 exercises to do every 15-30 minutes. I work at a desk so I just set a timer on the computer and did them religiously - all but one could be done sitting down. Within a couple of days I was moving more easily, and within a couple of weeks I was barely in pain at all. She gave me a girdle to wear but I didn't find it very useful after about the first week.

I know some people have said the physio didn't help them, but for me it was great. She was surprised at how well I recovered. I feel that the website helped me a lot and doing the exercises was key.

I did also do pre-natal pilates.

Hope your journey home isn't too long, Bunny. Sounds like you need a bath and an early night.

LakeOfDreams Wed 05-Feb-14 17:11:48

Firstly great to hear about all the wonderful scans and glad to hear everything is alright with you Finn hope you've managed to get some rest.
Several random questions. Most of you booked your 16 week appointment with the midwife yourself and booked your 20 week scan as you were leaving the 12 week. I'll be nearly 14 weeks at my scan next week so just thinking I ought to get on and book the 16 week appointment.

Maternity clothes, I need 18-20 probably more like 20 in trousers or jeans to fit my massive thighs in but I am around 5ft 11 and am really struggling to find long enough trousers. Have always found next and h&m on the small side. I wear Dorothy Perkins or bhs long normal jeans but not sure with maternity. Luckily I have some time as I have plenty of space in my normal jeans but I like to be prepared! Any advice from you lovely ladies?

HungryHorace Wed 05-Feb-14 17:24:41

New Look do long trousers. I'm the same height as you and they are fine.

Not sure about any others.

And yes, you need to book your midwife appt soon :-)

QueenOfGeeks Wed 05-Feb-14 17:30:39

Glad everyone is having good news at their scans.

Really glad it was good news Finn, hope you managed to get some rest.

My sickness seems better today but has been replaced with a stinking cold, does anyone know what I can take apart from paracetamol.

Also can you remind me how I join the Facebook group.

I also had SPD last time but all the physio recommended was a support belt. Hoping I don't get it again, can't just veg on the sofa with a toddler.

NameToBeDecided Wed 05-Feb-14 17:34:24

lake I think long tall Sally do a maternity range online but they can be a bit pricey. Otherwise I wear dresses and skirts so I don't have to worry about the length. I'm the same height as you.

mssleepyhead Wed 05-Feb-14 18:18:53

It was my with the spotting bunnybaby, and thanks for your reassurance.
Same tiny light brown smudge today, and happened at the same time: after cycling home from work. I'm wondering if the movement/seating position triggers something...? It stops as soon as I stop and goes back to normal, so trying not to worry too much.

LakeOfDreams Wed 05-Feb-14 19:23:44

Thanks guys our new look only has 5 rails of maternity wear but we are going to London for DH's birthday next weekend so there must be a big store in Central London so I'll get trying on. I love long tall Sally but can only afford ebay!

Time seems to have come to a complete standstill while we are waiting for this scan. Its next Wednesday so will be able to count down in days soon yay!!

Secretlypregnant Wed 05-Feb-14 20:18:27

Queen, if you want you can message me on here with your email address and I will add you to the group. Sorry to hear about your cold, but I don't think there is much you can do apart from paracetamol! Honey and lemon?

Glad you're OK, mssleepyhead - it does sound as if it's just triggering something being on your bike.

Finnable Wed 05-Feb-14 20:38:25

Thanks you those wishing us well!

Silly - yes, it was me bleeding at Christmas/New Year; the cause then was put down to an bicornuate uterus, but apparently that's not the case this time? (Makes me wonder if it was then too!)

TMI, but: the scan didn't show where the blood is coming from, no pools anywhere and no obvious cysts and my cervix is apparently fine. They're a bit baffled as to where it's coming from - as am I! It's just scary as there's so much of it and it just won't stop coming. Seeing a heartbeat definitely helped alleviate the fear though, DH thinks we've got to resign ourselves to just being one of those couples where nothing is easy in pregnancy. I've now had 5 scans and we're not at 12 weeks yet!

Now I've just got to avoid Google, as the Dr told me specifically not to search for antenatal haematomas, which she thinks I have. (Why tell me then!!?)

Hope everyone else has had a lovely day, anyways!

Glad the scans are continuing to go well, and good luck to those having theirs tomorrow!

Finn - Glad you're feeling more reassured after seeing the heartbeat good and strong, I hope everything continues to stay positive for you x

Secretly I have also Pmed you re Facebook group.

PinaColadas Wed 05-Feb-14 21:13:20

Misssleepyhead, I've read cycling should be avoided during pregnancy, it was one if my daily tips on an iPhone app I have right at the beginning, although don't know if it's more for the risk of falling off, might be worth checking with your midwife?

Secretlypregnant Wed 05-Feb-14 21:21:16

I read that too last time, Pina, and I looked into it and I'm sure I read it was for the threat of falling off - same as horse riding. I was in a panic because I did a big (i.e., up a Devon hill - I am a total wuss) cycle at about 5 weeks, before I knew I was pregnant!

PinaColadas Wed 05-Feb-14 21:25:05

Ah I did wonder, I was trying to look back on the app but couldn't find it

flusteredmumto2 Wed 05-Feb-14 21:35:53

We've got a bit ahead of ourselves and bought our pram and car seat tonight. Really was a bargain though. Brand new x display model my3 for £56. I wanted one with my previous 2 dcs and can't wait to pick it up when I'm in Bristol for valentines.

mssleepyhead Wed 05-Feb-14 21:44:19

Thanks Piña but I spoke to the MW about it because I'm a really big cyclist and couldn't imagine giving it up and she was really fine with it. Said it might get to a point where balance is hard but I could keep going till I felt like I wanted to stop. At the moment, only hills are a problem as I get out of breath. And this spotting, obv! But as it's the only exercise I get I really want to keep going with it. Keeps me same sane and means I don't have to get the bus to work so I get much longer in bed : ) many perks! I think unless the spotting gets more serious I'll keep going for now; I'll be having a week off for half term soon anyway so that should help.

neddle Wed 05-Feb-14 21:48:25

I've been lurking for a while, but need to jump in here. misssleepyhead cycling is fine during pregnancy if you were doing it before and don't push yourself too much.
I cycled the school run every day during my last pregnancy, including the day he was born. Cycled at 9ish, ds arrived at 7pm at 42 weeks.

Anyway, hi! I'm expecting dc5 on the 29th August and planning my 3rd homebirth.

PinaColadas Wed 05-Feb-14 22:06:38

I can imagine why balance would be hard in later stages and bet you would end up touching your bump with your knees smile glad you've spoken to your midwife.
Wow that's hardcore neddle! And welcome!

mssleepyhead Wed 05-Feb-14 22:07:10

That's inspiring! Thanks neddle! And good luck with your third!

22honey Wed 05-Feb-14 23:12:57

So pleased everything was ok for you finnable and baby was good and wriggly smile Congrats to everyone else who has had a good scan!

I spent all last night trying to work out the 'nub' theory and checking my scan pic, Im sure its a girl and its weird cos as soon as she put the scan pic in my hand I had a huge feeling it was a girl! But atm I'm just happy my baby is ok and would be happy with either gender, however we are planning on find out, my 20 week scan is the beginning of April, I dont know how I'm going to last so long with no other scan, I'll be terrified again my babies died without me knowing! sad

I thought after this mark I'd be totally not worried, and although I do feel substantially calmer I am still worrying my pea is ok, I feel incredibly attached to him/her now I have the picture, I keep looking at their cute face :D xxx

OH is talking about buying things but I still dont feel like I should yet, is that normal? I was thinking Ill be happy buying stuff after the 20 week but I see ladies here have started already?

Also I've been told by midwife I HAVE to use a birthing centre as I'm low risk, she pretty much said I have no choice in the matter and cannot choose hospital if I wish, is this right as the NHS website seems to say I do get a choice? Very worried about the 4 in 10 women having their first in a BC having to be transferred to hospital. I find it odd as SIL is same age and health status as me, lives in exactly the same area, had her first last year, didnt have complications and had a smooth pregnancy so was low risk and had hers in the hospital? Just not sure I should be accepting what MW told me, that I WILL be using a birthing centre.

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 00:36:46

Welcome to Mel0dy and Neddle. Have you both been well? Mel0dy, how did your scan go yesterday? Have you had yours, Neddle?

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 00:47:02

22honey, maybe this kind of thing changes from area to area, but here where I live I don't think there would be any question of the midwife saying something like that. Perhaps it would be worth double checking with a different midwife?

And I think it's totally normal to want to wait until after 20 weeks. Some do and some don't. Just depends on how you feel! I am pretty sure I waited until after 20 weeks till I bought anything. Also, it may be worth waiting a bit - our friends ended up giving us loads of things that they no longer needed. smile

Owlysims Thu 06-Feb-14 08:39:47

Good luck with any scans today thanks

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 08:57:59

I think there are three having scans today? Crazylady2013, LurkingNineToFive and Rosehoney - good luck and I hope all the babies are in good positions! smile

Owlysims Thu 06-Feb-14 09:06:28

Also very self indulgent post but I can finally say I'm 12 weeks today smilesmile only 4 more days until my scan, roll on Monday!!!

2beornot Thu 06-Feb-14 09:32:26

Good luck to today's scanees!

I think that you can be refused your choice if you are too high risk for that unit (I am too overweight for a MLU for example) but not the other way round. She's just giving her opinion!

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 09:37:27

Hurray, Owly! It feels like a huge milestone to reach 12 weeks, doesn't it! Really pleased for you. Hope the next few days go quickly for you.

22honey I'm pretty sure your midwife is talking absolute crap, it would be worth talking to another midwife about it or, better still, the EPUB at the hospital. Don't let the silly woman steamroller you if you would like the option of a hospital birth!

DuPainDuVinDuFromage Thu 06-Feb-14 09:47:33

See page 8 of the NICE guideline

Good luck to anyone with scans today!

HungryHorace Thu 06-Feb-14 09:54:44

Yay, Owly! It's a great milestone isn't it? Not long til Monday. :-)

Good luck to everyone being scanned today.

Another shit night here. Sick of lying awake for hours on end. 5 bloody hours I lay there last night. :-(

Picking my pram up today. Yay!!

flymo79 Thu 06-Feb-14 09:56:39

I'm with DuPain, 22honey, you should be able to give birth where you choose if you are low risk. I would arm yourself with the facts and guidelines and go to your next appointment feeling confident of what you want. She would need to explain why she was pushing you towards birthing centre, and if she maintained that stance you would be within your rights to say no and ask to be under a different midwife's care. It may be that she has a reason for trying to push you towards BC, but if she hasn't explained herself then I would go straight to matron/ward sister or whatever her senior manager is.

flymo79 Thu 06-Feb-14 09:59:29

ooh, hungry, what are you getting?
sorry about bad night - I can't sleep through the storm at the moment, hiddeous

lucyfluff Thu 06-Feb-14 10:24:42

Yay owly smile not long until your scan!!

Sorry you had a crappy night hungry, getting the new pram will cheer you up! Exciting smile

Ive got my first MW booking in tmrw @ 12 weeks...it feels so late this time round. Hopefully shes nice, I had the same one for all three boys but we have moved to a new area so new MW confused

Owlysims Thu 06-Feb-14 10:49:31

Thanks guys! Yes it does feel like a milestone! And I think Monday will come quite quickly as we have a lovely weekend planned for my dd's birthday and dh has fri-mon off for birthday/scan so should be nice smile even going away for a night in a hotel so should quicken time up!! Quite looking forward to it all!

Lucy that is so late! At least it's here now and then it's all go!!

Sorry people are having rubbish sleep, touch wood I've got a bit better been going to bed slightly earlier which has helped! Maybe was getting over tired (sound like a toddler!!)

Hungry what pram are you getting?!! Exciting!! smilesmilesmile

HungryHorace Thu 06-Feb-14 11:50:49

I go to sleep on the sofa by 9.30, sleep for 2 hours then ping awake when I go to bed. :-/ Perhaps I should go to bed instead of sofa sleeping? I'll try that tonight.

And it's an Oyster Max. Second hand, but not even a year old. DH is just assembling it now. :-)

Lucy, that is late. But at least you're getting somewhere now.

Flymo, it's bloody windy, isn't it? When you can't sleep it doesn't help. :-/

Owlysims Thu 06-Feb-14 12:00:24

Sounds good hungry and yes I think you need to go to bed not sleep on the sofa! Think that will make a difference smile

HungryHorace Thu 06-Feb-14 12:11:34

I feel going to bed is unsociable. But that's illogical as being asleep isn't exactly being chatty! :-)

mel0dy Thu 06-Feb-14 12:19:20

Scan was great, lots of movement, all very real now! Was expecting one or both of us to burst in to tears or something but we were both very calm. Not quite sure what I was expecting but pleasantly surprised that no massive fuss or patronising advice over my BMI, age or first timeness. Midwife we saw afterwards about as fat as me, mind. She was great until she mentioned being a Libra, baffles me that people still do astrology but never mind! First person ever to successfully take my bp on first try, and it was much lower/normal than the figures community midwife and GP got after lots of faffing.

This was all after day started in amusingly crap way. Firstly, I've not had to be up and out before 10 since morning sickness kicked in-was violently ill after dressing, so much so I weed in the carefully chosen outfit 10 mins before we left. No car at the min so we were on the bus(es). Had to ask driver to pull over so I could vomit up the 3 pints of water I'd been chugging to acheive full bladder.

Next time we should have a car, if not I'd rather do the hour's walk, get my day's exercise in!

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 12:38:59

Hungry, bed is definitely better than sofa! I know what you mean about pinging awake in bed though. I lie and look at Mumsnet for a bit!

Wow, Mel0dy, sounds like quite a dramatic morning. Hope you started feeling better once you got there. It's great that you saw a nice midwife too. Did you decide to have the nuchal measurement done?

mel0dy Thu 06-Feb-14 12:46:50

No we decided not to bother with any Downs tests. We wouldn't terminate and wouldn't know what to do with the info other than educate ourselves, which we could do after baby's arrival anyway. I know the tests can pick up other things too but after reading the science we decided on balance anything important likely to be picked up on BAU checks anyway.

Felt much better when we got there, thanks, but we forgot to take snacks! Treated ourselves to a Chinese as soon as we were done!

lucyfluff Thu 06-Feb-14 13:58:41

Yeah fingers crossed they do bloods tmrw so thats all done too, Ive been up and down to the docs with DS this week so it feels like my second home!!!

I tried the Oyster Max at the weekend and I know DS wouldnt like sitting at the back plus they cant use the normal Oyster carrycot sad which we have!!! Very annoying. Im going to sell our Oyster and get a different double after five months as there are quite a few nice ones in Kiddicare to choose from.

Congrats to all the good scan news today too smile

HungryHorace Thu 06-Feb-14 14:15:43

Lucy, we tried so many doubles at Kiddicare. Poor DD was bored of being lifted in and out of them!

The problem with side by sides is that they're just too bloody wide. We wouldn't get through the front door. The only narrow one is the Mountain Buggy Duet which is for very skinny children only! DD is a slender baby and almost filled the seat widthways. :-/ She's not going to get any skinnier.

The Baby Jogger City Select is apparently unwieldy when you have kids in it. The Obaby Zoom (or whatever it's called) is too bloody long.

The second seat on the Phil & Ted doesn't recline at all (the Oyster does a little) and the second seat is more obscured by the front seat.

I didn't like the Jane Twone either!

At least with the Max they can face each other, which will give DD more space to look around too.

To be honest, not one of them is perfect, but I liked the Max better than all of them.

Apparently a normal Oyster carrycot fits on the top only, which isn't helpful!

crazylady2013 Thu 06-Feb-14 16:24:44

It looks like it has been another good day with lovely scan news.
My scan was at 9am and it was amazing. The midwives were lovely. Baby has a strong heart beat and lay perfectly still while measurements and photos were taken. I think he/she is like DH and not a morning person and was having a lie in wink . Been given a new due date of 22nd Aug which makes more sense. NT measurement was 0.9 which has put my mind at rest. Left the hospital with a big grin and 5 lovely photos.
May all those still having scans have a wonderful experience too.

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 16:26:06

Congratulations, crazylady! Lovely news and a really reassuring NT measurement. smile

HungryHorace Thu 06-Feb-14 16:47:59

Brilliant news, crazy. :-)

Such a relief, isn't it?

In other news I'd forgotten how vomit-inducing the first, washing machine, movements are til last night when I was lying awake feeling baby whizz round and round. Barf!

lucyfluff Thu 06-Feb-14 16:51:12

ooooo due date buddy crazy smile congrats on a great scan!!

I know hungry its so frustrating looking at doubles, I think we are will go for a side by side one despite the width it just seems more appealing than any I have seen so far. The O Baby was on offer but they said a LOT had been returned with faults :/ I saw a nice Britax one so may try that out again. What annoys me is that hardly any have carrycots except Bugaboo and I need to win the Lotto first!!!

RoseHoney Thu 06-Feb-14 16:51:55

Hey girls!
Had my scan today and all is fine smile due 20th August!
Hope all the other scans today went well!

PinaColadas Thu 06-Feb-14 17:17:06

Great news today!

Ooh hungry I still don't really know what I'm feeling, could be anything could be the baby!bwish I knew.

Still not got NT letter back, rang today she said could be another 2 weeks! I huts want it out of my mind argh!

PinaColadas Thu 06-Feb-14 17:17:48

Argh auto correct, that should have said I just want it out of my mind

HungryHorace Thu 06-Feb-14 17:32:25

Lucy, is that the B Dual by Britax?

We would have happily gone for a side by side if only our front door / hallway were wider. It's truly a logistical nightmare.

And most are lie flat, aren't they? Not nice for a newborn, I don't think.

Piña, Baby HH seems to be most active at night. I call him the elephant as he's so rowdy!

That's crap re your NT letter. Did they say why it's so slow?

And that's good news, Rose. :-)

3rdtymmummy2b Thu 06-Feb-14 18:30:23

I just thought i would join grin , i am due dc3 on the 26th aug, tbc on monday at my 12 week scan , my dd1 is 5½ and my ds1 is 4½ months so i am still in shock but getting used to idea of being a mother to 3 smile. Xx

lucyfluff Thu 06-Feb-14 18:39:01

Im not sure Hungry!! It may well be that one...DS climbed in and looked very cosy smile it has a bar across the front and is suitable from birth.

Newborns just seem so teeny lying in a big pram, I loved the carrycot part last time. Oh decisions!!!

eeyore2911 Thu 06-Feb-14 19:07:01

I've gone for the twone for the twins, mainly as a side by side won't fit through my door and I liked the fact that you can have the matrix 2 car seats (need no adapters either) which can either lie flat as a carrycot or be a normal car seat shape... (And can be used till 18months-heavy tho lol) Then the seats fit on chassis afterwards grin it's all arrived as got it cheap in sale online but not dared to unpack it yet!!

All this talk of prams. You are scaring me!! I have just had parents evening and an exhausted. Also been lying to parents about taking their children on French trip. Not at 37 weeks I won't !! But I don't want to tell school yet :-)

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 20:01:10

I loved the Jane lie-flat car seat, eeyore. I had the older version so it was just a carrycot and a lie-flat - it didn't turn into a normal car seat shape. But it was great for long distance car journeys, especially in the heat of summer.

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 20:02:55

Welcome, 3rdtymmummy2b - how exciting! I have cousins with a similar age gap as your youngest two will have, and they have always been like best friends. smile

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 20:08:50

Loads of time yet, Travis! I'm concentrating more on leggings and bio oil at the moment!

Ooh, talking of which, my Seraphine leggings arrived today! They are absolutely lovely and so soft. Tomorrow I can finally wear something other than my baggiest jeans! It's lucky I work from home - I'd never get away with sitting with my trousers undone in an office.

HungryHorace Thu 06-Feb-14 20:12:18

Welcome 3rdtymummy! I've just lost my most mental person here crown!

Will your DS and new DC be in the same school year? We've just missed that, thankfully!

Jenbee1 Thu 06-Feb-14 20:38:42

Piña who did you call? My scan was too weeks ago and I haven't heard anything. I thought I'd have to wait until my next mw appointment on 25th February but if there's a quicker way I'm keen to find out

Welcome to all the new mums to be and congrats on all the scan news

mel0dy Thu 06-Feb-14 20:58:23

Secretlypregnant, love the hosting job you're doing. smile Sorry not really commenting on anyone else's news much but not gone public yet and sneaking forum views when I can. At the risk of outing myself, we run a rehearsal studio for bands so most of our customers are close friends and I keep getting paranoid they'll get a glimpse of the word PREGNANCY on the laptop!

We're embarking on a publicity tour tomorrow, starting with parents (mine first on the rational that the in laws already have grandchildren so it's only fair!) It's ridiculous at the age of 34 but I'm crapping myself! Feel like I'm 14. If I do get stuck for words will just have to wave the scan picture at them.

eeyore2911 Thu 06-Feb-14 21:02:08

Secretly, I can't wait to give it a go now lol! I've snuck one out of the box to look now OH is in bed!! It's nice looking and sturdy grin

Secretlypregnant Thu 06-Feb-14 21:24:48

Ooh, sorry if I'm coming across like that - certainly no more a host than anyone else is!

Eeyore, it's exciting and weird to look at those things isn't it!

Have fun telling everyone your news tomorrow, Mel0dy.

Pina, I'm still waiting for the Harmony results - should get them at some point next week. And I now seem to be feeling sick at 4pm like clockwork - when will it end?!

mel0dy Thu 06-Feb-14 21:31:39

Secretly, it's the sort of thing I'd do if I was on more often! This thread moves so fast, round ups are good, don't change! smile

22honey Thu 06-Feb-14 21:56:46

Thank you secretly pregnant, yes Im hoping to have a smooth 6 months ahead..sounds like forever!

Thanks also everyone else for the advice about the midwife...I was pretty sure I did have a choice as it were (infact Im not sure it was my midwife who said it, but a woman at the booking scan who was asking all the questions about family history etc, there were 2 women there)

I will definately bring it up next time....congratulations to those who have had positive scans its great to hear lots of good news!

My mum is extremely happy and sounds very excited, it will be her first grandchild and she cant wait to take me shopping for lots of new gear (and admittedly I cant wait either!). It will be very emotional for me for some (deep and personal) reason as my mums mother committed suicide when mum was just 19 and she had me not too long after, and I guess it gets me somewhere deep because she never had her mum there to help or guide her (and I never met my maternal grandma and have always felt the loss of not having her there), it will feel very special to me to have her to support me but then I know it will set off deep feelings for her aswell as she never got to share any of her pregnancies, birth's or motherhood with her own mum.

I'm feeling very emotional at the moment as I bet lots of you ladies are aswell, I'm also knackered I think I'm getting on OH's nerves with all my demands :D I think I should make the most of the lie ins and being waited on hand and foot for as long as possible! ha xx

22honey Thu 06-Feb-14 21:59:46

hi 3rdtymmummy and all other newbies to the thread, congratulations! smile

PinaColadas Thu 06-Feb-14 22:14:43

I just don't know what's what Hungry, keep thinking its just wind haha. Wonder when I'll know for sure, I'm 15 weeks tomorrow.

jenbee I rung the anti natal clinic at the hospital. They said don't worry because would have got a call by now if it was worrying results but just want to see the number now.

mssleepyhead Thu 06-Feb-14 22:33:09

Hello ladies,
Great to hear it was another good day of scans! Loving how you're all getting into prams and car seats. Really hope I'll be joining you in such talk in a week and a bit.
Feeling anxious again tonight as got a brown smudge again after cycling home, third day in a row. Will be trying to speak to a midwife tomorrow to get some reassurance. Really hoping its nothing but scared I'm going get bad news a week on Monday. Feeling worried about it already.
Onwards. Trying to convince myself there's nothing I can do anyway. I need to calm down and just wait and see... In the meantime: still lots of nausea which I guess is good??
Good night all - wishing you another good day tomorrow!

2beornot Thu 06-Feb-14 22:34:36

Evening. GLad to see another day of successful scans.

I ordered myself some dresses from Tiffany rose last night. Honestly if you've got an event to dress up for then their stuff is fab. I just hope my bump shows nicely (will be 22 weeks when I get to wear it).

I'm using the same pram I has with Dd for this one too. I can't really justify buying A brand new one. I think once it's out of carrycot I'll get a new pushchair then (I've got my eye on a mamas and papas sola!)

HungryHorace Fri 07-Feb-14 06:57:53

Mssleepyhead, it does sound like your saddle is maybe causing some irritation which leads to the bleeding. I hope the midwife can reassure you.

2be, we don't have a choice but to buy a new (to us!) pram as we need a double! Otherwise we'd have just used the current one.

Lucy, I agree that newborns just don't look right on the lie flat seats.

I had an earlyish night last night and feel better for it. I may be awake now though! DD just needed a cuddle from me as she woke up crying. Poor thing. Dreading going back to work because I wouldn't have been here to give it then as I'll be leaving at 6.30. :-( Thank god it isn't for long.

PinaColadas Fri 07-Feb-14 08:46:24

Happy Friday ladies!

Good luck with scans today, is it just Lynnieboo?

Starting with a cold today nooooooo, it's only a month since my last one.

2beornot Fri 07-Feb-14 09:02:36

Sat at doctors waiting (appt was 8.40 but still waiting at 9.00)!! Hoping for a referral to physio - wish me luck!

crazylady2013 Fri 07-Feb-14 09:17:21

Morning ladies,
I havr a quick question (probably for the teachers)....I run a Guide unit and was wondering if/when I should tell my girls. I'm 12 weeks and starting to show but can kind of hide it with baggy jumpers.
Good luck for the scans todaysmile .

mel0dy Fri 07-Feb-14 09:55:34

2beornot- good luck!

Crazylady- I'm not a teacher or anything but my gut instinct would be a couple of weeks after telling friends and family

flymo79 Fri 07-Feb-14 10:41:33

22honey, I'm not surprised it's an emotional time, enjoy it with your mum and I hope it can be joyful as well as bittersweet for her. I am feeling a bit of a wreck but for no other reason than hormones!! cried at the news this morning!
good luck for scan lynnieboo!

Cazbg Fri 07-Feb-14 10:58:45

Congratulations to everyone's scans : ) Good Luck Lynnieboo and great news Finn.
I have a scan related question - I had the NT scan on Monday and they said if we were high risk we would hear in 3-4 days, so by today and we havent heard... so is it now safe to tell friends and work colleagues? what have other people done? I was to tell people but I am also feeling cautious (as has been a continuous theme in this pregancy - scared of tempting fate!).

flymo79 Fri 07-Feb-14 11:20:38

Hi Caz - I understand they would have called you by now. Congrats on the scan!! Did you get a reading on the measurement?

Cazbg Fri 07-Feb-14 11:21:52

yeah it was at 2.3mm but as we were already nearly 13 weeks she said this was pretty normal. (do people agree?)

Cazbg Fri 07-Feb-14 11:23:02

Also I would like to join the facebook group - who should i send my details to? thanks

flymo79 Fri 07-Feb-14 11:29:32

yes, definitely agree, I believe anything under 3.5-4mm is very normal!

HungryHorace Fri 07-Feb-14 11:33:42

Has anybody else got slow-growing leg hair now? It happened with DD, so now I'm thinking girl!

Good luck for today's scans...and not long now, Owly! :-)

lucyfluff Fri 07-Feb-14 11:37:47

Hi ladies, had a bit of a crappy booking in with new MW. She was so clueless on whats going on as my care is with one hospital and Im delivering at another. So couldnt have bloods done, apparantly I need to go to my hospital of delivery and have them done (where I dont know/who to contact re results??!) she didnt know either. Her actual words were google it!!!
Then she tried listening for heartbeat and couldnt find it sad and now Im worried something bad has happened.

Im sorry for the mememe post just not feeling very positive after this morning!!!!

Hope everyone else is ok smile

HungryHorace Fri 07-Feb-14 11:55:06

Lucy, it's irresponsible (and maybe against guidelines) to try to listen for a heartbeat before 16 weeks. My MW friend thought a midwife on the recent BBC2 programme was stupid to try at 15 weeks.

Even at the 16 week appt they warn that they may not find it, but can't refer for a scan as it's normal for it to be tricky.

Please try not to worry.

And what a shambles. I'd ring the antenatal clinic at the hospital you're delivering at to ask for help.

Sorry it was crap. :-(

lucyfluff Fri 07-Feb-14 12:06:33

Thanks for reply hungry...I couldnt believe when she said she was going to try (maybe she was doing it as student in too but you would hope its not something they should teach)?!

Hubbie is fuming and wants to complain. Im just sat here thinking I want my old midwife back!!!

Think I may call the hospital and get some advice it seems so unorganised and I cant cope with that!!!

flymo79 Fri 07-Feb-14 12:17:28

sorry to hear you've had a bad morning Lucy, this is no time to be at the mercy of johnny (or janey) no-stars!! I have the same as I live in the middle of the countryside, I am with a community midwife for care and have chosen a big general hospital for delivery. The difference is I went straight to the delivery hosp. for booking-in. They explained that if I had any bloods taken by my community MW the results wouldn't come to them and I would have to chase them. I would ring your delivery hospital, let them know you've had a bad time of it and see what they can do. Taking bloods shouldn't need you to wait an inordinately long time, they should be able to do it quite quickly.
sorry again to hear of the nonsense.

2beornot Fri 07-Feb-14 12:19:43

Lucy - I wouldn't worry about the heartbeat. Easier said than done, I know but it really is difficult to get when They are so little.

But the rest sounds like a nightmare!!!

PinaColadas Fri 07-Feb-14 12:43:52

Cazbg if you want to email me your real name and email address also let me know what your pic is so I know its you and i'll add you smile

Hungry mine are quite the opposite, so i'm thinking boy. In my baby brain state I only shaved one last week haha!

Lucy Thats awful, I would certainly call the hospital, don't worry though, she sounds like that much of a doofus she probably would have struggled to find her own heartbeat!

mssleepyhead Fri 07-Feb-14 12:51:47

Rubbish time with my midwife today too. Called about the spotting and they were completely uninterested. Just said go to the EPU. Considering trying to get a scan this weekend but terrified in case it's bad news. I don't want bad news...

flymo79 Fri 07-Feb-14 13:00:29

mssleepy try not to panic, I'm sure brown is just old blood and you are so active, the cycling is probably just moving it around. I know it's upsetting to not have someone reassure you, hope you have more luck getting a scan and have some reassurance xxx

HungryHorace Fri 07-Feb-14 13:03:21

Ha ha, Pina. Have you a hairy belly too (you don't have to answer!)? And shaving only one is good going!

Mssleepyhead, give EPU a call and see what they suggest. I'm sure it's all fine. Before 20 weeks it's always the EPU that deals with spotting, after that you'd be checked out and monitored by a midwife / doctor.

Lynnieboo Fri 07-Feb-14 13:14:23

hi everyone.

I have been keeping quite for the last week or so as I have been reading about all these good scans and great news and I was soooo paranoid about mine I just didn't want to comment. I wanted to fade into the background and be forgotten. imagine my surprise to read that people remembered I had my scan today shock .

Well I'm here and it was good. Babyboo wasn't moving about very much...think he was still sleeping. But saw heartbeat which was my first fear... and then I saw brain, arms, belly, hands, legs and feet. all there and the correct amount of each. I am so glad my hospital has an empty bladder policy because honestly with all the pressing and jiggling.... I would have wet myself.

NT was 1.7 so also good. All in all I would say it was a good morning. Staff were lovely and I was told my bloods results should be with me in a week to 2 weeks.

oh and I am 13+1 and my due date is now 14th August. I would be grateful if the next person to amend the list would change me too.

Good luck to all of next weeks scans.

can I join the Facebook group now? who should I PM?grin

PinaColadas Fri 07-Feb-14 13:20:22

Lynnie, Fabulous, congratulations PM me if you like, i've just added Caz smile

Hungry, yes! Extremely hairy, not like gorilla hairy but it's very strange, so it's going to be a boy isn't it?

lucyfluff Fri 07-Feb-14 13:22:14

Haha pina!! yea she was a complete doofus smile silly woman. Just rang hospital and left message to call me back about bloods so hoping they do soon!!

Mssleepy I would call EPU also, get some advice about it happening again. Im sure all ia fine and it seems to be the bike riding so maybe its just irritation. Good luck x

lucyfluff Fri 07-Feb-14 13:23:01

My legs never get very hairy...maybe I am a freak!!!

HungryHorace Fri 07-Feb-14 13:28:22

Piña, I had a hairy belly but slow growing leg hair with DD.

I don't think my belly is as hairy this time, but I still have slow growing leg hair.

Maybe it's just random!

And excellent news, Lynnie. :-)

PinaColadas Fri 07-Feb-14 13:33:21

Oooh so there is no calling it then. I need to stop trying to guess and just accept the fact that I don't want to know.... Not really, honestly.

MissSleepyhead I hope you get into the EPU today, I don't think you need to worry with it being brown spotting but it would be great for you to get the reassurance you deserve.

HungryHorace Fri 07-Feb-14 14:09:46

It's natural to guess, Piña! I spent a lot of time guessing, I just didn't actually want to know for sure! :-)

At the 20 week scan we thought we'd be tempted to find out, but once we had been told everything was OK, any temptation disappeared with the relief.

After showering I can confirm that my belly definitely isn't as hairy as last time!

Owlysims Fri 07-Feb-14 14:27:11

Great news on the scan!

Thanks hungry yes not long now!!!

Sleepy hope you get it sorted soon thanksthanks

Thatsnotmyfigure Fri 07-Feb-14 15:41:58

That's great Lynnie. Hope the weekend goes quickly for you Owly! Good luck for Monday!!
I have finally got that relieved feeling as got the results of the combined test today. I've been on tenterhooks all week and was praying it would come before the weekend (Cazbug hope your letter comes tomorrow but agree good news if no phone call)
I wasn't sure initially as the risk is 1: 424 which sounded high to me.I was hoping for a number in the thousands. I couldn't get a decent perspective on it as there was no explanation letter and the midwife gave me the wrong screening test booklet so I couldn't interpret the results. Anyway I called them and they said it was a good result as due to my age I'm high risk (1:67) but the results have lowered it significantly. So nothing to worry about. I've been affected by my friend's very bad result last year and having the reassurance I needed and having shed another tear for her I feel a weight off my shoulders (DH thinks I'm hormonal and bonkers btw)
Wishing everyone a relaxing weekend and hopefully some time on the sofa!!

PinaColadas Fri 07-Feb-14 15:50:50

Thats That's great news, same to you, enjoy the weekend. i'm hoping no one on here is having too much trouble with this terrible weather, its absolutely devestating. I got flooded 5 years ago and it was awful, I feel so sorry for everyone sad

This is sooooooo random, but wonder if anyone knows....

I know you're meant to try really hard to drink 8 glasses of water during pregnancy, more than ever. Now my question is: is cordial ok and does it still count as water intake? I can't get enough of Robinsons Peach juice (sugar free) but i'm concerned I should be drinking straight up water? Sounds rediculous but just wanted to check confused

flymo79 Fri 07-Feb-14 16:20:51

Pina I think fluid is fluid, so cordial is fine. what ever you can get down you! I think my funny turn the other week was due to not having enough fluid the day before. speaking of water... I feel devastated for flooded people too, especially the elderly and preggo ladies or ones with LOs. I heard this awful news stories about farmers having to move their livestock, so heartbreaking.

mssleepyhead Fri 07-Feb-14 16:29:23

Thanks for all your kindness today everyone. After a bit more light brown discharge today I managed to get a private scan booked at the fetal medical centre tomorrow. It's the only way DH can come with me and I just don't want to go to a 12 week scan on my own. Some spotting without cycling today, and I might be imagining it but my abdomen feels a bit sore and achey. I'm starting to prepare myself for the worst, just in case. Appointment is at 2.30 tomorrow; it will be good to know.

3rdtymmummy2b Fri 07-Feb-14 16:31:24

Thankyou for the welcomes and i think they will be hungry my ds1 was a sept baby so i will probs end up with one of the oldest in the year and youngest x

flymo79 Fri 07-Feb-14 17:11:05

everything crossed for you mssleepy xxxx

weeza13 Fri 07-Feb-14 17:16:56

hope you are all doing ok. Mssleepyhead, good luck for your scan tommorow, I know its nerve wracking but at least you won't be on your own and I'm sure it will all be fine. I have hit the 16 week mark and have really noticed my tummy starting to pop out,so have others who feel the need to touch it which I find weird but have been told to get used to it as it gets worse. I suppose at the moment at least its only friends not complete strangers. Also constantly need the loo but I am drinking masses of water but really missing full fat caffeine full lardy coke. What are any of you missing?

Ruggle Fri 07-Feb-14 17:23:52

13 weeks today, and I'm missing food and sleep.....and the sofa (coz I came to work for the afternoon and am regretting it, as everything aches!)

One thing to celebrate is I haven't been sick today (yet).......

Thatsnotmyfigure Fri 07-Feb-14 17:56:49

Ms sleepy sending good thoughts and wishes your way. You're going to a brilliant clinic and fingers crossed everything is totally fine. Do let us know

lucyfluff Fri 07-Feb-14 17:58:30

Good luck tmrw mssleepy xx

HungryHorace Fri 07-Feb-14 18:31:29

Good luck tomorrow, mssleepyhead. I hope you get some assurance. xx

Owlysims Fri 07-Feb-14 19:28:09

Good Iuck mssleepy thanks

Jenbee1 Fri 07-Feb-14 19:56:07

Good luck mssleepy xx
Definitely missing my Weekly Americano. I've not eaten pate in years but keep having this strange urge for it. I've never been very good at being told what not to do smile

weeza13 Fri 07-Feb-14 20:05:31

Oh and sleep, really missing sleep but may as well get used to functioning on very little of the blissfull slumber.

Owlysims Fri 07-Feb-14 21:55:18

Weird question which I'm sure none knows the answer to but... I was considering asking if when they do my bloods at the scan they could also check my immunity to slap cheek...only because the childminders at the toddler group I help run mentioned it's going around at the moment (no kids at the club so no risk at the moment!) just thought if it's in my area my dd or me may come into contact with it and would be good to know if I'm immune and don't have to worry or not immune and need to be more aware/avoid if any of their kids get it. What do you think? Do you think they'll think I'm overthinking or that they can't even do it there anyway? Any experience?! thanks in advance!!

Polkadot1 Fri 07-Feb-14 22:59:18

Hi folks! Hope everyone's well, good to see the tests and scans are all coming on! Has anyone got any wierd rashes? I started off with a red pimply stingy ( not itchy) rash on my arms last Friday. I thought it was the chlorhexidine scrub at work (operating theatres), so wasn't too worried, but on Tuesday it developed on my ankles. Very small red dots in patches- quite obvious, but nor scaly, itchy, but burns in the shower or bath. Not used any new products. Then it went to my knees and hands. So I went to the GP, worried it maybe chicken pox or some infective rash I should be worried about being 14 weeks. The GP hadn't a clue, got another GP in to check who had 30 years experience- no clue either. I asked if it could just be "sensitive skin" or "hormones", or allergic dermatitis, but he said unlikely, but not to worry, and gave me some emollient cream. It's still there.... But I'm fine! Just never had a rash before!

If you read pregnancy symptoms on here, someone did mention a rash? Not sure if its the same? Think pg can make you more sensitive to stuff. Keep an eye on it anyway! !

Mitchell81 Sat 08-Feb-14 06:25:57

Can't believe my scan is finally going on to be on Monday. It's felt like ages away.

Owlysims Sat 08-Feb-14 08:25:58

It was me Travis! I though dd had it! I don't think I have it now at all, just wondering if they can test as it's in the area, suppose ill just have to ask! smile

Owlysims Sat 08-Feb-14 08:26:54

And me to Mitchell! Finally nearly here! And I'm finally over 12 weeks as well!!! smile

Abimci Sat 08-Feb-14 08:52:44

Wow you guys move so fast on here I cannot keep up! Great news on all the scans.

22honey you should definitely check what the midwife told you as that doesn't sound right. I am low risk so they said it's my choice whether to use birthing centre or delivery suite in hospital. I cannot see how they can force you to use birthing centre as if it's your first (like me!) you just have no idea how you're going to react to labour. I'm hoping to use the birthing centre but obviously if I can't cope with the pain and decide I need more relief then they'll have to transfer me. But it surely has to be your choice, not their's or it's not really your birth plan is it? Good luck with it all!

I am around 12 weeks today and have noticed in the evenings a little hard bit that sticks out below my belly button but it's not there in the morning. Is this pregnancy related or am I just eating too much?!!

Still having sick days but not so bad today so hoping it's easing off now. Have my scan on Tuesday so just really hoping for good news. It will be great to finally have some physical proof (other than symptoms) that something is actually growing in there!

Have a good weekend all.

mssleepyhead Sat 08-Feb-14 09:12:03

5 hours ish till my scan. Didn't sleep very well last night so will be walking in like a zombie! spent much of the night rehearsing two different phone calls to my parents and sister, one good, one bad. Just in case. Really looking forward to just knowing, and if things are ok trying to resolve/understand the spotting.

Congratulations to those hitting 12 weeks - I'm there either today, tomorrow, Monday or Tuesday, depending on which day I count as my first cycle day or if I use the day I think I ovulated. Heck. I think I'll count it from today : )

Thinking of those also awaiting scans! X

Hayporter Sat 08-Feb-14 09:27:56

Hi everyone I'm new to this... I'm due in August with identical twins I can't find a group on here does anyone know if there is one and where I could find it? Thanks x

lucyfluff Sat 08-Feb-14 09:49:35

Thinking of you mssleepy, try and stay positive. Im sure all is fine and it will give you reassurance today x

Ive been having dull aches low down a bit like AF without cramps and backache. Has anyone else had this? Trying not to worry after the silly mw yesterday confused

2beornot Sat 08-Feb-14 10:39:15

Welcome hayporter! There's a few mums on here expecting twins, so you've got company here! There's also a section for those who have had or are having twins here

Mssleepy - really really best of luck! Hope to come back later to good news.

Feels odd that some are approaching 12 weeks and I'm nearly 16!! Ordered some maternity occasion dresses for my nephews wedding - can't wait to wear it! They make my boobs and bump look amazing. Will need carefully selected underwear though!!

Hope everyone else has a good weekend!

2beornot Sat 08-Feb-14 10:41:03

Lucy - the dull aches (kind of like that post birth feeling?) and back pain are totally normal. Mine have stepped up a gear now but that's what I had a few weeks ago. Sorry you've got a stupid midwife who has scared you. Remember the EPU will always look at you, even if you think your being silly, they won't. X

ClarissaG Sat 08-Feb-14 10:56:33

I love a list, so here we go: (copy and add your own answers)

Missing most - Brie
Best side effect - Boobs
Struggled most with - sickness
Best / strangest reaction to announcement to news - Good friend 'I KNEW you were pregnant that weekend!!' - when I was 4 weeks and had just done test. How did she know, weird???!!!
Most looking forward to - DH being a Dad, he is so happy
Most worried about (aside from medical worries) - juggling work and baby
Tummy status - 1 - proper little bump, 2 - no bump, 3 - fat and bloated pretend bump - 3
Most tears over - Adoption programme on Channel 4, I would never have cried about that before
Shopaholic status - nothing bought yet for baby, I didn't even let myself take the labels off the bigger bras I bought until after the 12week scan

CountdownBegins Sat 08-Feb-14 11:31:39

Hi Hayporter and congratulations on your twin pregnancy!

Good luck today mssleepy- hope all is ok.

Lucy I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and had the period type pains around 12 weeks and realised the baby was oractiakly doubling in size that week and it was near to my usual period dates so guessed it was due to that! So try not go worry and it should calm down.

How is everyone else? I've been really struggling with lower back (almost in my bum) pains- have been doing some aligning and strengthening exercises but its really getting me down- do you think I could be referred to physio?

CountdownBegins Sat 08-Feb-14 11:33:20

oractiakly??? I meant practically...

PinaColadas Sat 08-Feb-14 12:00:31

Been thinking about you all morning Misssleepyhead. Keep your head high, I'm sure all will be perfect xxx

I've had downs screening letter this morning finally, 1 in 38000 which I'm assuming is pretty low and they've said they don't need to do anything else.

Ooooooh a list!

I love a list, so here we go: (copy and add your own answers)

*Missing mos*t - Disaronno and coke
Best side effect - Bump and not having to hold my stomach in anymore after years
Struggled most with - Feeling shattered/getting up for work first thing
Best / strangest reaction to announcement to news - a very manly colleague welling up! Another manly colleague practically snogging me and throwing his arms round me saying 'CONGRATULATIONS' sounds strange but it was so sincere and sweet
Most looking forward to - seeing DH holding baby for the first time
Most worried about (aside from medical worries) - how we will cope with sleep depravation
Tummy status - 1 - proper little bump, 2 - no bump, 3 - fat and bloated pretend bump - 1, was at a party last night and people were rubbing it and all sorts! Lots assumed I was further on than I am cringe. Fatty.
Most tears over - Fear of losing the baby after my MC. Irrationally also every time I heard "all I want for christmas" on the radio
Shopaholic status - Pretty bad, got pram, cot, mattress, 3 outfits, and some art for the wall, also sewing lots and knitting!

lucyfluff Sat 08-Feb-14 12:31:41

Thanks 2b and countdown smile

I should know my body by now after three pgs but Im such a worrier. Maybe its stretching and my tilted uterus making it all uncomfortable. Scan is Wednesday so hopefully all will be ok then. We are telling inlaws today eeekkkk!!!!

I love a list will copy and paste later as on phone app!

Hope everyone has a fab wkend (except this bad weather!) smile

lucyfluff Sat 08-Feb-14 12:32:11

Good news on the results pina smile

Finnable Sat 08-Feb-14 12:57:24

Good luck MissSleepy. Thinking about you!

Abimci Sat 08-Feb-14 14:22:55

2beornor where did you get your dress? I need one for a holy communion when I'll be 6 months (hopefully!) and one for a wedding when I'll be 7 months.

Anyone else know where to get good occasion maternity dresses?

HungryHorace Sat 08-Feb-14 14:27:12

I hope everything is OK, mssleepyhead.

Hello to Hayporter. :-) We've 3 sets of August twins, I think. Or is it 4? Quite a few, anyway.

I'm feeling very un pregnant today. :-/

Oh, congrats on your test result, Piña. That's excellent.

Secretlypregnant Sat 08-Feb-14 15:03:33

Great news on the results, Pina! Really pleased for you.

Thinking of you, mssleepyhead, hope all is going well.

PinaColadas Sat 08-Feb-14 15:13:09

Keep thinking of Misssleepyhead

Thanks every one, very pleased with the results.

What about ASOS Abimci they have loads if maternity things

Secretlypregnant Sat 08-Feb-14 15:17:06

Abimci if you can afford it then Tiffany Rose are supposed to be the bee's knees. People do sell them on eBay after wearing them once. I have never had an occasion to buy one for while pregnant, sadly!

mssleepyhead Sat 08-Feb-14 16:55:00

Thank you for all the positive thoughts everyone. Just saw our little baby : ) heart beat heard, brain and spine seen, but no movements apart from a little wave. I think he was asleep : ) led to a good profile shot which I'm now studying alongside the nub theory but I can't quite work it out! So relieved...

Measurements put me at 12+1, but I'm not sure that's right so won't update my stats until my official scan a week on Monday.

Thank you again everyone - you were a great support xx

Secretlypregnant Sat 08-Feb-14 16:59:16

Oh, fantastic news! Brilliant, mssleepyhead, so pleased for you!

Secretlypregnant Sat 08-Feb-14 17:00:15

I've been trying to figure out nub theory too! Very intriguing.

jessplussomeonenew Sat 08-Feb-14 17:01:45

Missing most - pate
Best side effect - being looked after by everyone who knows
Struggled most with - sickness
Best / strangest reaction to announcement to news - not really told people yet. Though my tennis coach was incredibly excited which was nice!
Most looking forward to - meeting this little person
Most worried about (aside from medical worries) - sleepless nights
Tummy status - 2 - no bump at all, indeed no visible changes (still wearing pre-pregnancy bras & jeans)
Most tears over - being stuck indoors feeling sick and miserable
Shopaholic status - tentative aisle cruiser, haven't dared buy a thing yet!

HungryHorace Sat 08-Feb-14 17:03:57

That's brilliant news, mssleepyhead! So pleased. :-)

What did you think you were, dates wise? I've been moved forwards a whole week at my dating scan, and 4 days with DD. But we are both tall, so it's not really a surprise!

I'm utterly crap at nub theory, it has to be said.

mszeen Sat 08-Feb-14 17:04:11

hello all,

glad to see there are loads of positive scans and that everything is good with you mssleepy... xx

I have to say I haven't caught up with much really, just enough to know there are some newcomers (welcome) and that hungry you have inspired me to go for an oyster travel system... I am obsessed grin Thank is of course providing that all is well at my scan on the 11th... Fx xxx

nothing really to report other than am officially 32now and had my booking in on my bday - blood tests not my best bday pressy smile oh and @ 13+5 I still have quite sick days - today being one... although they are easing... thankfully xxx

PinaColadas Sat 08-Feb-14 17:37:15

Misssleepyhead that's great news so pleased you saw your precious smile

HungryHorace Sat 08-Feb-14 17:52:14

Ha ha, mszeen...glad to be of service! :-)

Did you have a good birthday apart from the bloods?

I sometimes feel queasy but it fades quite quickly. Apart from the total exhaustion and utterly bizarre dreams I wouldn't really know I was pregnant. Oh, and I'm eating shed loads! Oops.

PinaColadas Sat 08-Feb-14 18:03:03

Still having strange dreams too! I'm just about to have a takeaway, we are eating our feelings tonight, found out today we need a new boiler wahhhh!

There's 1K+ out the window. We knew it was coming, when we bought the house we knew it was old and didn't have a lot of life left in it but it's still rubbish after we have been saving so hard for the baby. Better to happen now than when I'm on maternity though I suppose.

lucyfluff Sat 08-Feb-14 18:31:01

Brilliant news mssleepy smile Im so glad all is well for you. You can relax now!!

Told inlaws and that went down well....they seemed quite pleased but going to wait till officially ok on wed before we announce to the world!!!

Can someone explain the nub theory please???!!!

HungryHorace Sat 08-Feb-14 18:45:43
sillymeagain Sat 08-Feb-14 19:31:43

Haha...lucy...I googled it earlier and am still none the wiser and despite having 11 scan pictures at 13 weeks all I can see is tummy and legs and nothing resembling a nub!

Sleepy. ..really pleased you had good news!

mszeen Sat 08-Feb-14 19:31:56

I did have a lovely birthday thank you hungry grin the wretching stayed away till the evening ( begging the question why do they call it morning sickness?) and allowed me to enjoy my tgi Friday's battered prawns and birthday cupcakes grin grin result grin ..

hopefully the fact that the quease comes and goes means that you are reaching the end of that lovely stage wink fx for us both... and anyone else suffering thanks

LakeOfDreams Sat 08-Feb-14 21:15:17

Missing most - not having to think before I eat
Best side effect - Boobs
Struggled most with - aching legs already have really bad varicose veins
Best / strangest reaction to announcement to news - same every time "gosh you don't hang around he's only been in the country since October 25!" My DH has only had a UK visa for 16 weeks and we are 13+1
Most looking forward to - seeing what our baby looks like
Most worried about (aside from medical worries) - how we can afford everything and how to cope working long shifts and figuring out childcare
Tummy status - 1 - proper little bump, 2 - no bump, 3 - fat and bloated pretend bump - 3
Most tears over - 12 years a slave, literally a massive ball of snot and tears
Shopaholic status - absolutely nothing hoping to get a car tomorrow not directly related to the baby but it'll help, been looking at maternity clothes but still have room in mine

Owlysims Sat 08-Feb-14 21:48:34

Missing most - a back without backache and a head without headache!!
Best side effect - hair looking nice!
Struggled most with - the wait for the 12 week scan!
Best / strangest reaction to announcement to news - I knew at so and so's christening...that was the day before I found out!! Strange!!
Most looking forward to - giving my dd a sibling!
Most worried about (aside from medical worries) - juggling new born and dd!
Tummy status - 1 - proper little bump, 2 - no bump, 3 - fat and bloated pretend bump - 3
Most tears over - second lot of brown discharge. Was fed up!!
Shopaholic status - didn't want to buy anything until after 12 week scan but caved and bought a pair of maternity leggings and couple of tops of accommodate changing shape yesterday!! Only 2 sleeps to go anyway!

Dd's birthday weekend is going well dd and dh asleep already so watching a film and trying to catch up with you guys! Great news on the scans and ms sleepy so glad it was good news! Relax now!! smile

2beornot Sat 08-Feb-14 22:14:56

Someone asked about maternity occasion wear - I did In fact go to Tiffany Rose. Dresses are normally £100+ which is way above my budget but they have a sale on at the moment so I paid under £60. They are on eBay too, though not many in my size!!!

Thatsnotmyfigure Sat 08-Feb-14 23:09:02

Great news ms sleepy head!
Somehow found myself in John Lewis today looking at double buggies! I really don't want one as I love my current one but its inevitable. I will have to look up the Oyster Max. Friends rave about their Phil n Teds but doesn't do it for me. Favouring the Baby Jogger City Mini so far. Anyone else looking for a double?

HungryHorace Sun 09-Feb-14 06:03:17

Have you got a Kiddicare near you, Thatsnot? They have a really good range in store that you can try out.

I'm not a P&T fan either, it has to be said.

None of the doubles were perfect, but the Oyster Max ticked the most boxes for us, including can we get it in the house?!

mssleepyhead Sun 09-Feb-14 08:23:31

Missing most - burgers, without a doubt
Best side effect - so far I don't think I have one. Maybe time off work for appointments??
Struggled most with - the worrying that everything is ok
Best / strangest reaction to announcement to news - my family bursting into tears when I gave them a positive test on Christmas Day
Most looking forward to - seeing my baby
Most worried about (aside from medical worries) - juggling new born and dd!
Tummy status - 1 - proper little bump, 2 - no bump, 3 - fat and bloated pretend bump - 3
Most tears over - about 8 weeks when I had a bit of a self pity break down over how awful I felt
Shopaholic status - after our scan yesterday we bought a baby grow. Cried in John Lewis too...!

mssleepyhead Sun 09-Feb-14 08:25:31

Oh! Forgot to change one...
Most worried about (aside from medical worries) - childcare and returning to work and if work will let me go part time

Fed up! I think it might be tiredness but my ms seems to be worse and I am 15 weeks on Wednesday. Was up at 3am, starving so had a piece of toast. Then brought it back up again. I even threw up I. Aldi car park yesterday which was highly shameful! I definitely felt better by this point last time, and am worried that either there is something wrong with the placenta or I am going to be one of the unlucky ones that carries on throughout. Sorry for rant but really can't cope!

lucyfluff Sun 09-Feb-14 09:49:48

Morning!! Ahhh ok I had a look at nub theory....it all seems quite hard to try and guess the sex using it!!

Travis your ms sounds awful, I feel for you and the other ladies being sick so often sad lets hope it buggers off soon!!!

Have woken up with less tummy ache etc than yesterday which is good!

mssleepyhead why are you missing burgers? I had one yesterday in Cafe Rouge and it was delicious! Surely there's nothing about them that makes them forbidden? Or are you just eating super healthily?

FriendofDorothy Sun 09-Feb-14 10:23:44

Sometimes living in Guernsey is truly shit. I wanted to order a cot from Kiddicare but the delivery is going to be nearly £70. It really winds me up as other companies manage to deliver ok. <grump> and <sulk>

HungryHorace Sun 09-Feb-14 10:44:29

Missing most - not much really...it's not that long since I was pregnant before so I think I'm used to avoiding stuff. Plus I do eat some stuff I'm not meant to anyway! :-)
Best side effect - DH doing all the night feeds for DD.
Struggled most with - being so knackered and feeling like I'm neglecting DD during the day when I should be playing with her.
Best / strangest reaction to announcement to news - somebody told us we should get a TV!
Most looking forward to - seeing my DD with her new sibling and DH with both of our babies.
Most worried about (aside from medical worries) - juggling new born and dd!
Tummy status - 1 - proper little bump, 2 - no bump, 3 - fat and bloated pretend bump - 3
Most tears over - just now watching the ladies' snowstyle final and Britain's Jenny Jones winning the bronze!
Shopaholic status - pram and cot bed. I'm also starting my nappy stock pile this month! I will get the new baby its own first outfit and going home outfit I think.

mssleepyhead Sun 09-Feb-14 10:48:55

Antoinette I think I'm being super cautious but something about avoiding undercooked meat? I was told the risk is greater with burgers because the meat is ground up too, so have been avoiding them, but I am so missing them!

That really is super cautious! I just asked for them to make sure it was well done!

I think I'm a lot more relaxed about the food stuff this time round though. As long as things are well cooked and you're not mainlining liver pate and raw sushi, I reckon it's fine.

lucyfluff Sun 09-Feb-14 11:21:59

I couldnt live without a mcdonalds quarter pounder with cheese lol smile

lucyfluff Sun 09-Feb-14 11:22:56

Sobbed at Team GB too hungry!!! That was amazing !!!!

HungryHorace Sun 09-Feb-14 11:57:51

I was weeping for ages afterwards too! DH thought it was hilarious. :-)

mssleepyhead Sun 09-Feb-14 12:56:07

i just wondered if anyone else blogged at all and if you have a pregnancy blog you might want to share? i've just started mine here:
i don't know how much time i'll have for it, but i like blogging so am looking forward to giving it a go.

i've put my scan pic up too and there's a link to try and guess the sex from the very clear nub! would like thoughts on that too please : )

mssleepyhead Sun 09-Feb-14 13:00:36

With a clicky link : )

HungryHorace Sun 09-Feb-14 13:19:57

I think boy. :-)

I cried at Jenny Jones too! I mean I know nothing about snowboarding or JJ or Winter Olympics and I felt really choked up. You know you are pregnant when...

Boy too!

mssleepyhead Sun 09-Feb-14 17:09:16

Boys are coming out as the winner! I might take it to my next scan and see if the sonographer can read it. I can't believe I didn't ask yesterday, but I was so relieved I wasn't really thinking about anything sensible : )

Welled up at JJ too. But then I also started crying walking through the nursery section in John Lewis yesterday, so I don't think I can be trusted with anything at the moment...

FriendofDorothy Sun 09-Feb-14 18:09:32

I have been blogging for about 8 years and my blog is here

Owlysims Sun 09-Feb-14 19:31:19

Scan tomorrow eekk!! Dd's birthday weekend has kept my mind very occupied but she's in bed now dh is on the play station (I realise he sounds 10 I promise he's not wink) and my mind is DEFINITELY on the scan now and I feel it will stay that way until 2.30 tomorrow!!!

Anyway, hope everyone else is doing well?!!

weeza13 Sun 09-Feb-14 19:44:09

Good luck owly for your scan. Question for anyone that knows...I know about bio oil for stretch marks but will any old moisteriser help prevent marks or does it need to be a specific type. Budget is an issue.

mszeen Sun 09-Feb-14 19:48:50

oh it is so lovely to see the blogs... I've been saying that I would love to start a blog to my OH for a couple of weeks now.. nothing too fab just a diary of pregnancy from my point of view -:trying not to gain the extreme amount of weight I have in past pregnancies (without being unhealthy etc) whilst juggling two children a job and a part time degree... hopefully it will be a success story grin maybe 'growing tum and shrinking bum, the diary of a podgy mummmy' grin grin haha open to suggestions obviously.

Owly - good luck with the scan tomorrow, hopefully you can keep your mind off it until your time otherwise the day will definitely drag smile. I have mine Tuesday, think I'm getting cystitis though don't know how I will cope with the full bladder tummy prodding... hmm

Owlysims Sun 09-Feb-14 20:05:03

Thanks weeza I think as long as you keep as moisturised as possible then you're doing all you can!

Mszeen that sounds fab! I'm also worried about this I put on 4 stone with dd shock and really don't want to do it again!! Only put on a couple of pounds so far so fingers crossed it'll stay slow and steady. I'm currently a stone overweight and don't want to end up in same position as with dd but I'm much more conscious this time so fingers crossed. Are you currently overweight at the moment or just don't want to end up? How much did you put on in previous pregnancies if you don't mind me asking?! grin

mszeen Sun 09-Feb-14 20:06:14

I'm no expert weza but from what I have read the massaging motion is what makes most of the difference brings the blood to the surface etc and to help that along body brushes can be bought for a very reasonable price.. Another good tip I read about is that food based oils and creams are a better option as they are absorbed by your skin easier and don't just sit on the surface... Alternatively I have friends that swear by nivea q10 and swear that it is as good as bio oil but at under a tenna for a bottle that is more than double the size is better value.

To be fair as long as you are keeping your skin soft and moisturised and massaging the lotion in to encourage blood flow it will help with the elasticity of your skin. smile

Personally I've always used both bio oil and Palmers coco butter on my belly every day 2ce a day throughout all my pregnancies and so far have not had a single stretch mark on my stomach - however I neglected to do the same for my legs and boobs and have stretch marks on both confused

mszeen Sun 09-Feb-14 20:14:54

Ahh thank you Owly - According to my bmi I am 3 and a half stone overweight 29.7 bmi shock Realistically though I would be happy being 2and a half stone lighter lol or anything lighter than how I started this pregnancy grin I started both my previous pregnancies much lighter than I am now and put on 4stone with the first and 3stone with the secondblush considering they were both around the 6lb mark when they were born it was an awfully large amount of weight to put on shock .. I just know that I cannot afford to put on that amount with this pregnancy I would be huuuuuge grin

Owlysims Sun 09-Feb-14 20:20:57

Mszeen my dd was also only 6lb so no excuse for the excessive weight gain!! I did lose the weight within a year of dd's birth (unfortunately put on a stone in between her turning 1 and 3!! Hence why I'm a stone overweight!!) but still I remember that feeling of being very overweight (I was actually classed as just obese when I first weighed myself after having her shock) I would ideally only like to put on a stone but I feel that's VERY unlikely and am dieting as don't want to put baby's health at risk for my own vanity! But I am trying to eat healthily and limit treats but hard to remember sometimes grin

How is to going for you this time? Better?

Secretlypregnant Sun 09-Feb-14 20:25:14

Good luck for tomorrow Owly!

I used bio oil throughout last time and got no stretch marks. From what I've read, it seems to be largely genetic, but I say why take the risk? And I am sure any moisturising oil would do, but bio oil does smell completely lovely. smile

I have felt properly well and normal today! It has made me realise how long it is since I felt like myself. Please please let this continue!

HungryHorace Sun 09-Feb-14 20:32:20

Good luck tomorrow, Owly. :-)

I've got bucket loads of Bio Oil as it was on offer when I was pregnant with DD and mum bought me a couple of large bottles. It goes a bloody long way too.

I didn't really get many stretch marks though, it has to be said. I've got more on my back from growing too fast as a child than from pregnancy!

I suppose I should start using it again.

As for weight, I'm heavier than pre DD. Next Feb I'm planning on doing intense weight loss again. I lost 2 stone in 3.5 months a few years ago, so will do the same as I did then to get back in shape as my baby making years will be over once this baby comes along. :-)

Owlysims Sun 09-Feb-14 20:40:15

Thanks guys!!

And Crikey hungry that's a lot of weight in a small amount of time! Well done you! smile

Thatsnotmyfigure Sun 09-Feb-14 21:00:54

Good luck for the scan tomorrow Owly and everyone else this week too! Thanks for the buggy info hungry too!
I also got tearful at the Winter Olympics - seems that's a universal pregnancy symptom then?!
Just trying to get up the courage to call my friend who's had loads of failed IVF - really nervous sad

MrsBri Sun 09-Feb-14 21:07:31

That's a tough call to make, Thatsnot. Good luck.

I'm sure your friend will be happy for you. :-)

mszeen Sun 09-Feb-14 21:24:39

so far I have been feeling really very sick and have unintentionally lost 3lb in the first few weeks.. not something i would advocate or recommend confused but to combat this I have downloaded a calorie counter and (after using the benedict equation to find out my average calorie needs) i make sure that I am eating my full calorie quota each day..
Now I am feeling a little better I am going to try to make sure those cals are made up of more healthy foods than rather than just 'whatever i can stomach' - obviously balance is key and i wouldn't exclude anything from my diet (partly because i do not have enough will power) - I am also going to try to include recommended pregnancy dvds into my routine ... so fx I will have a much healthier pregnancy smile as I said before I work have 2 children and a part time degree so fitting it all in will be interesting... grin

How have you been doing so far with your weight Owly?

mszeen Sun 09-Feb-14 21:27:12

Wow my goodness hungry 2 stone in 3.5months shock that must have been an intense weight loss regime! well done!

Owlysims Sun 09-Feb-14 21:34:22

Only put on a couple of pounds so far (2 pounds last time I weighed, weigh again tomorrow) so doing well as had no sickness and been strong by not eating to combat nausea! Also kept up gym, had to drop it a little bit in last few weeks due to tiredness but still managed 2 times a week instead of usual 4. Starting to feel more like myself so hoping to up to 3 again throughout pregnancy. Sounds like you're doing fab! Well done! Especially as you're so busy!! smile

mszeen Sun 09-Feb-14 21:37:03

sorry Owly I just realised you said that you have put on a few pound... slow and steady but healthy weight is brill wink - for me it was always eating for 2 (or 4) and not even good food! didn't even realise till this pregnancy that it is medically not necessary to up your daily cals until the 3rd trimester when they advise to up the cals by 200 per day only! shock

mszeen Sun 09-Feb-14 21:43:58

Thank you! Sorry for the xpost.. it is fantastic that you are keeping up the gym that is already a big achievement... haha I think any praise for me has to be suspended until at least a few months time when we see whether I can stick to anything I have planned to do grin grin I certainly didn't start this pregnancy a fit mummy or anywhere near so I know it will be need to be a continuous and conscious effort to keep on track grin

Owlysims Sun 09-Feb-14 21:53:36

Well you're going in the right direction and I think your blog would be great and love the title! Get writing!! grin

Mitchell81 Sun 09-Feb-14 22:23:14

Good luck owly for tomorrow, will keep you posted with my scan news which is just before yours.

I too am really overweight and piled it on last time. But I feel so hungry and sick sometimes that I have to eat or I'm vomming again. When I wake on the night I feel really sick and end up eating toast or a banana. So in an ideal world you wouldn't up your calorie intake but its not choice iyswim?

Oh and good luck with scans owly and mitchell

HungryHorace Sun 09-Feb-14 22:39:03

Good luck tomorrow, Mitchell.

Secretlypregnant Mon 10-Feb-14 00:30:09

Hope all goes well tomorrow, Mitchell!

UpQuarkDownQuark Mon 10-Feb-14 06:59:56

Good luck today mitchell and owly. My scan is at 10am today too. Never been so excited and nervous all at the same time.

I appear to have lost 3lb which is good in some ways as I am v overweight but I am sick if being sick!

HungryHorace Mon 10-Feb-14 07:22:07

Good luck, UpQuark.

Is there anybody else today? We must be nearing the end of the scans soon?

weeza13 Mon 10-Feb-14 07:28:54

Good luck upquark. It is scary and exciting but as soon as you see your baby on the screen you will be mesmerised

mszeen Mon 10-Feb-14 07:44:50

good luck owly, michell and upquark on your scans today smile and concourse anyone else who's scan is also today

mssleepyhead Mon 10-Feb-14 07:45:53

Good luck scanees! Hope today goes well for everyone.

Hungry - I think there are still a couple of us up next week. My official NHS one is a week today. I'll be 13 weeks.

lucyfluff Mon 10-Feb-14 07:47:14

Good luck today Upquark, mitchell and owly smile cant wait to hear your news later.

Im sure there is only a few of us left to be scanned!!!

I have put on half a stone so far smile

Owlysims Mon 10-Feb-14 08:07:29

Good luck up quark and Mitchell! Thanks for the luck everyone will update later smile

flymo79 Mon 10-Feb-14 09:24:18

good luck all with scans today! just catching up on weekend posts, haven't managed to get any time online all weekend!

DuPainDuVinDuFromage Mon 10-Feb-14 10:41:37

Good luck everyone with scans today!

I'm feeling rotten, I've got a bug (or maybe food poisoning - could be the leftover pizza I had for tea last night hmm) - it's been coming out both ends (sorry...) since 3am sad Just beginning to feel slightly better and able to sit up and look at this thread - had been lying in front of the curling, clutching my tummy... Should I be doing anything baby-wise other than keeping hydrated? I expect it'll have no effect on the little one at this stage...

londonchick Mon 10-Feb-14 10:57:02

Good luck for all the scans!! Thinking of you all!

I'm starting to feel less sick which is great but occasionally get taken by surprise. Vomited in Sainsburys car park yesterday morning after a night shift!! Grim!

I have actually lost weight so far this pregnancy but my stomach is pretty big so losing the weight has made it more obvious I think.

Found out yesterday that my FIL actually told a load of people when we first told him at Christmas so when we were happily breaking the news last week it wasn't actually a surprise to DH's family. I feel really annoyed with him and I know it's not worth getting into an argument about or anything but it's still really annoying!! I don't get on with my IL's anyway. They live locally (my parents are 200 miles away and much more elderly) and are a nightmare to my SIL with her 2 children so they are the one aspect of having the baby I'm not looking forward to!

Right! Rant over! Sorry I just needed that to get it out of my system!

As you were!

londonchick Mon 10-Feb-14 10:59:30

DuPain, sorry you're feeling horrid. Yep hydration def the most important thing at this stage. Keep an eye on your temperature too. Make sure it's not an infection and just a bug.

lucyfluff Mon 10-Feb-14 11:04:41

Awww dupain hope you feel better soon. Lots of water and rest, bubba will be fine.

London, thats really mean! Like you say not worth an argument, maybe a sarcastic remark next time you see them so he gets the hint he was out of order!!! Inlaws can be a pain at times I know how you feel!!

Just had my apt through for the 20week scan on 3rd April eeekkkk....two days before DS bday!!!

jessplussomeonenew Mon 10-Feb-14 12:03:57

Good luck to today's scannees - just got my scan date which given I'm due at the very end of August must be one of the last here (19th Feb, 12+3).

Nausea appears to have lifted for now which is an unspeakable relief. Most of me wants it never to come back - but another part is already missing the daily reassurance! The scan can't come quickly enough!

jessplussomeonenew Mon 10-Feb-14 12:28:32

Dupain, when I was struggling to get enough food due to borderline HG the doctor basically said not to worry about the baby because it's getting nourished first and your reserves will be raided to meet its needs, which I found reassuring if a bit of a weird thought. As you and others have said, try to keep hydrated (tiny sips get absorbed very quickly) and if you can, try to take folic acid or any pregnancy vits you were on - sometimes easiest to keep down last thing at night. I really hope you feel better soon.

sillymeagain Mon 10-Feb-14 12:44:53

Ah Lucy. ..just rebooked mine for the 3rd (dh birthday) I think there are a few others that day too. Looking forward to it. Rebooked as was on 1st but we are going to Paris for a few nights so excited about that too. Just realised that ds in running the mini marathon on the sat and dd has a dance comp on the sun...going to be a very busy week me thinks!

Dupain. ..when I had really bad sick bug I called the midwife and she said baby will be fine but for my sake if I was bringing up even water then to save aggravating my stomach try a few hours of no drink at all. ...and not worry about eating. She did say if it continues more than 48hrs then chk with dr but recommended drinking sips of flat full fat coke (when I could manage it) as it contains diorolytes which help hydrate you quickly. ..hope you feel better soon

Jenbee1 Mon 10-Feb-14 13:56:31

Good luck for scans today.
Was just wondering if anyone else has the same symptom as me. Periodically over the last week, and definitely worse yesterday, I've been getting a sharp stabbing pain in my left side. I think it's away from the bubba but it is quite painful. No other symptoms.

DuPainDuVinDuFromage Mon 10-Feb-14 14:21:09

Thanks all - can always rely on getting good advice here! smile feeling a bit better now...still on the sofa though!

Jen - I've been having stretching pains but not really sharp pains - maybe it is stretching that you're feeling though? Sorry not very helpful!

flymo79 Mon 10-Feb-14 14:38:54

ugh, dupain, so sorry you're feeling so unwell. I can recommend any kind of prepared rehydration drink if anyone can bring you one. And then back on the water as soon as you can manage. Here's hoping you're over it quickly.
Bit of a long one this, but if anyone who's having similar (or is bored!!) could respond that would be great. I am feeling conflicted about my local NCT. I live rurally, and went to a nearly-new sale at a nearby town on sat. managing not to buy anything as DP and I decided it was too early (though it was VERY tempting!). The lady at the door was really friendly, very helpful and gave me loads of information about how the group is quite informal etc. and with lots of opportunities to join in. But it is clear most of the ladies who are involved and organising things have older kids, and I would want to meet people who are going through the same as me. So I thought the courses could be an option, but found them to be rather pricey at a time when I should be saving, and the person who responded to my email was really hard-sell about it, saying "I've reserved you a place". I'm not shy, so feel okay-ish about making friends, but I just want to know how to access people, and wondered if any first timers out there are having similar or had any ideas.... I know Pina was discussing this a few weeks back and was also put off the cost of NCT....

PinaColadas Mon 10-Feb-14 14:40:04

Get well soon DuPain look after yourself

Jen I've been having period type cramps for a few days, i've read that it normal as things are stretching (15+3 today) but sometimes if I bend or stretch into an awkward pain I do get sharp pains. It's called round ligament pain. Have a read here: www.webmd.com/baby/guide/pregnancy-round-ligament-pain
If you're worried it might be worth calling your midwife but if it sounds like on the link try not to worry, theres lots going on in there so my mum keeps telling me (every time I ring her worrying)

Looking forward to the scan news smile

PinaColadas Mon 10-Feb-14 14:52:38

Yes I've decided against NCT courses, at 150+ for a course I've decided the money is going to be better spent on me and the baby (especially with 1500 to fork out for a new boiler this week!! sad)

I'll see whats what with the NHS ones which i've heard can be a bit of a sham in my area. I'd like to meet other mums but think there will be plenty of classes once baby is born to go to to meet other people and also am hoping to go to a few Aqua Natal where I might meet some people :D

Ruggle Mon 10-Feb-14 14:57:45

Flymo, I have the same problem, but not rural as such...just out in the stix of zone 4 London. No village or centre to speak of....just residential houses and an occasional corner shop...so nowhere to go to meet people. When I lived in south London I had parks, library, and Blackheath with its community opera and lots of musical events going on, so now that I'm up north I feel very isolated! I've only been there since October. Anyway, I enquired about NCT classes and they quoted me 279 for 17 hours, though two of those hours are just a post-birth meet-up for people, rather than part of the "course".
I've emailed them today saying i think it's too expensive for me (I could buy a pram or cot with that money) but I really don't know what other options there are out there. None locally it seems.

flymo79 Mon 10-Feb-14 15:55:34

thanks pina and ruggle for your experiences. I don't want to get on an anti-NCT drive as I'm sure for those who can afford they are totally invaluable! I just think there should be something else, and maybe that does come in the form of the NHS classes (though my suspicion is the same as Pina's - that they are likely to be something of a shambles). even if you wanted a sort of pay-as-you-go thing that would be better than forking out up-front. Anyway, rant over! Don't want to create factions!!
Think I will just have to keep my eyes open, and aqua natal's a good idea Pina, I'll look out for exercise type things. My sis takes her DS swimming and meets lots of mums there.

PinaColadas Mon 10-Feb-14 16:22:51

Sorry, it's my NHS ones that are a sham not the NCT, I don't have any experience of it other than a friend who went, she enjoyed it but she was really keen to meet friends with babies which was her main drive I think. She met 4 other ladies and they're still meeting up as a group.

SellyMevs Mon 10-Feb-14 17:14:07

Hi All,

Can I join? I had my scan last week, I'm 12+6 and due on the 19th August. This is DC1.

flymo79 Mon 10-Feb-14 17:19:36

hi selly! congrats and welcome!

pina - got myself into a bun-fight over on the preggo threads talking about nct. whoopsie!! scurried back to lay low.

PinaColadas Mon 10-Feb-14 17:26:43

Haha whoooops! ...goes to look...

lucyfluff Mon 10-Feb-14 17:54:36

Naughty flymo wink <goes to look too!!>

londonchick Mon 10-Feb-14 18:01:08

Hi Selly! Welcome. You're my due date buddy - am due 19th August too :-)

sillymeagain Mon 10-Feb-14 18:10:31

Ooh flymo...off to look too....I'm afraid I am in the anti nct brigade. ...very hard sell from my experience and very forthright with their views. ...again just my experience but I did go to one meeting (not the classes just the overall nct meeting) and decided that whilst it may suit lots of people it wasn't for me!

Owlysims Mon 10-Feb-14 18:35:19

Scan was great! All fine baby waving and moving but also still for pics which was great!! I'm also a week ahead of what I thought!! 13+3 so will change the stats in a min smile had a reading of 1.4 which is good isn't it? Women seemed happy, will hear any bad news within 48hrs from bloods but fx all seems okay smile gringringrin

HungryHorace Mon 10-Feb-14 18:47:40

My tuppence worth is that I've heard that NCT can be very pushy re breast feeding and birth without intervention, which is all very well and good.

But...some people don't want to BF. Others, like me, just couldn't supply enough milk. It's not right to tell mothers who don't want to / can't breast feed that they're wrong, or worse.

And with intervention, well, I'd have preferred to give birth without, but ultimately DD's (and my) safety came first, so I had an EMCS. And because of that birth I can't face trying a VBAC as I'm too scared / traumatised to. I don't need telling I'm wrong about that, either!

But, it does depend on your tutor, so they aren't all like that.

Smelly, hi and congrats.

Owly...yay for good scan news! :-)

londonchick Mon 10-Feb-14 18:48:17

Great news! Owly! Such a relief I'm sure!!

HungryHorace Mon 10-Feb-14 18:49:10

Owly, is yours a giant baby too, or could you have conceived earlier? I think mine is tall, rather than my dates wrong as I was also moved forward a week!

lucyfluff Mon 10-Feb-14 18:51:06

Yay for scan news owly smile glad it all went well for you x

mel0dy Mon 10-Feb-14 19:03:43

Hi all -I've been feeling really tired/lazy lately so not posted much, but been smiling at all the happy news.

We've started telling people now and so far no surprises or annoying comments to speak of (apart from a male friend I've come to thing of as a complete chauvinist asking OH when they're going out getting pissed- in Bloody September for my birthday, when I'm allowed to join in, that's when!).

Mitchell81 Mon 10-Feb-14 19:05:04

Great news owly, my scan went well aswell, exact dates that I thought. Lots of movement and putting hands to their face.

Thatsnotmyfigure Mon 10-Feb-14 19:24:23

Great news owly and mitchell!! Lovely to hear that!! Haha flymo - went immediately to have a look at NCT debate!! have got some thoughts to add and my experience of the actual course was positive so will post once got little terror... oops... DS in bed!

Owlysims Mon 10-Feb-14 19:52:54

Not sure hungry, scanner said the baby looked like at 13+ week baby as well!! So we shall see! At least they won't leave us ages overdue I suppose!!

Oh god we told people tonight and had an awful reaction 'fingers crossed its a boy' how bloody rude!!!! Also who do I pm for Facebook??

HungryHorace Mon 10-Feb-14 19:53:12

That's great, Mitchell :-)

Are you off to Oz next week still?

I must go and investigate the NCT debate!

HungryHorace Mon 10-Feb-14 19:54:25

PM me, Owly.

And what a stupid, crap reaction.

What does a 13+ week old baby look like?!

That's different to a 12+ baby, I should say?!

Apparently the spine and stuff looked very developed...I don't know really!! It did look big but who knows what that means! Will pm you now!!

I am also having the NCT debate with DH. I'm keen, he thinks it's a rip off, at £342 for our local class I can see his point. May see if I can find a cheaper one locally.

Scan tomorrow, really nervous now! Keep switching between nerves that the baby is ok and nerves about being told it's twins (we currently live in a one-bed flat.)

Just really hoping all is well. Had to get out of the shower to be sick this morning and have felt queasy all day. It's the first time I've actually been sick. Thought it was supposed to get better at this point, not worse!
