APRIL 2013 - Part 9 - Fed up, tired and over due! Will we make the April deadline or could we gatecrash May?

JaquelineHyde Mon 29-Apr-13 14:47:04

Hello everyone and welcome to what I am sure will be the final ever Due in April 2013 thread! sad grin

Only a few of us left still holding on and fingers crossed we will all pop within the first few pages of this thread <hopeful>

So let me kick off...

I am currently 40+11 and due to be admitted to hospital tomorrow to start induction. I've been told to expect a May birth as my cervix is still high and very closed!

Lets get everyone else checked in who is still holding on and all the other April ladies can wave the pom poms and send labour vibes to those of us yet to have our lovely newborn snuggles.

wishfulthinking1 Mon 29-Apr-13 15:15:31

I have my Pom-poms at the ready!!!

Trishstar Mon 29-Apr-13 15:17:41

Cheering you guys on!! xxx

Teapig Mon 29-Apr-13 15:28:31

fluff, I'm so pleased Delilah is doing well. Bet you can't wait to get home.

Thinking of you helens and you have your baby in your arms very soon if not already.

jh and all the other mums to be my pom poms are out and ready for waving. Wishing you speedy births and healthy babies who arrive very soon xx

photochick Mon 29-Apr-13 16:44:08

Thanks jh for the new thread! Let's hope we all have our LO's on this one even if they are May babies!

Good luck jh for tomorrow.
I hope Helens doing okay.

Not enjoying this waiting game. If it's much longer I will have worn out my hoover and washing machine! Plus my mil and sil arrive on Saturday - their idea not ours. Feel under pressure to produce a baby in time! They are not staying with us but I selfishly wish we had the chance of at least few days settling in at home before visitors arrived! My mum has suggested staying in hospital as long as possible lol!

Mama1980 Mon 29-Apr-13 16:54:05

Also have Pom poms ready and waiting to cheer everyone on!
Hope all is well for Helen.
Great news again fluffeh, I'm thrilled for you, hope you are home now and snuggled up

Dysgu Mon 29-Apr-13 16:57:36

Fingers crossed and pom poms waving that you will all be holding your own babies very soon.
JH fancy you going all the way to the end - I was joking that I would end up being late and that Evan would arrive in May as the DDs both came so early. The medical people all said it was unlikely (and they were right, obs - he is now nearly 7 weeks old!) but it must be feeling strange for yo being this pregnant! Good luck whether it turns out to be April or May.

birdbrain17 Mon 29-Apr-13 20:13:49

thinking of you all flowers xx

Rivergirly Mon 29-Apr-13 20:49:38

Checking in -defo gonna be one of those gate crashing May now and i can't believe it!! Ds2 was dead on time so was convinced baby 3 would at least be on time!

Induction booked for Thursday night so assume by the time things get going and with my usual long labours we may have our lo by Saturday!

Jaq are you being admitted in the morning - the policy at my local hospital is to induce in the evenings! Feels like there are hardly any of us left now. Good luck for tomorrow anyway and keep us posted - this is the first time I have been induced with nothing having happened beforehand - ds1 contractions for 5 days but going nowhere and ds2 waters broke then nothing so I went straight on a Syntocin drip but this time I think it will be the pessary route and being sent home again!

bext Mon 29-Apr-13 21:13:29

Mama, can't believe you're still going strong for us when Alex must be nearly six months old now and loads of us still haven't got our babies in as yet - thanks for sticking with us :-)

I'm convinced I'm going to be the last one to pop - as the last one due in the month it will be sods law LO will be two weeks late - maybe I should have joined the May group!

Fx for an arrival this week...

itsaruddygame Mon 29-Apr-13 21:42:07

Good luck ladies! Hope your babies arrive very soon : )

KelleStar Mon 29-Apr-13 21:51:02

Fingers crossed for all still due. Well done so many of you for being so patient.

HadALittleFaithBaby Mon 29-Apr-13 22:06:51

Come on babies, be born already! <waves pom poms for those left>

Really hope tomorrow goes smoothly for you jacq and Thursday for you river.

Baby will be out one way or another bext! smile

JaquelineHyde Mon 29-Apr-13 22:15:53

Yep I'm being admitted at 8am tomorrow morning.

I will have the pessary inserted after the usual monitoring and then just have to wait it out. I have to remain as an in patient as they like to monitor you with the pessary over 24hrs.

I cannot believe I am at this point, I have been ready for this baby since 34 weeks. All the medical staff are a bit baffled by it all as well as they were so certain I would be having a premmie again grin

Oh well I suppose it just proves you can never predict pregnancy and labour!

I will try and update either here or on FB but the internet is pretty crappy in hospital so bare with me.

Not sure I'm going to sleep much, I feel too excited grin

phantomhairpuller Mon 29-Apr-13 22:19:57

Fingers crossed for us all then ladies! Am 40+1 but booked in for induction on Friday as previous section with DS1. Really thought this baby would be early, I think that's part of the reason I feel so disappointed now! I'm almost certain I'll be gate crashing the may crowd wink

EssexWelsh Mon 29-Apr-13 22:26:04

Come on babies, 2 more days in April, you know you want to be in our gang, now listen to your Mum's and out you come already!!

Ollibobs Mon 29-Apr-13 22:41:25

I'm still waiting too. I can't believe I am five days late as I thought I'd be giving birth around 37 weeks as all the women in my family did. I feel like I've been overdue for the last 3.5 weeks... Gah!
Have a sweep tomorrow and hopefully the MW will book my induction for the weekend at the latest. I'm so tired of waiting!
Thanks for all the Pom Pom waving. Its very encouraging! smile

LikeCandy Mon 29-Apr-13 22:47:08

I wonder how many super spicy curries have been ordered tonight?! grin
Come on April ladies, lets see you in the post natal club come May the 1st!

helens82 Tue 30-Apr-13 01:00:54

Anna Isobel arrived this afternoon at 4.45 7lb 7oz.

Very relaxed and straightforward elcs and not too much pain at present.
She has already fed well (in contrast with DS who had no idea) and is sleeping beautifully in her cot. Unfortunately no other baby on the ward is so little chance of sleep.
Can't get used to having a girl after a boy last tone and still feeling a little unreal that she's here even though I can see her! I know that sounds silly.
I'm now making up for not eating since midnight yesterday and looking forward to seeing DS later.

Hope inductions go well for people left and that we get more April babies!

KelleStar Tue 30-Apr-13 01:45:00

Congratulations Helen! A lovely name!

edinfirst Tue 30-Apr-13 02:28:52

Just adding my pompoms! We could do a pretty good Mexican wave across the country to encourage/welcome these babies - I think I'm one of the furthest north so shall I start?

<waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay> grin

new baby hysteria plus sleep deprivation pushes edinfirst into slight lunacy

Mama1980 Tue 30-Apr-13 09:16:13

Congratulations Helen grinthanks and welcome to the world Anna xxx
Thinking of you jacqueline hope everything goes quickly and smoothly for you x
Yep Alex is nearly 6 months now grin rest assured I will be cheering you all til the last baby is safely here- its the least I can do for all the support you have all given me grin xxx

HadALittleFaithBaby Tue 30-Apr-13 09:17:29

Congratulations Helen, hope you recover quickly from the c-section. Love the name smile thanks

Good luck jacq!!

photochick Tue 30-Apr-13 09:19:00

congratulations Helens!

jh hope all goes well today x

olli I feel exactly the same (40+4). Midwife tonight so hope for more info (even tho I always told her I wouldn't need this appointment! famous last words!). Maybe she will do a sweep unless you have need to be booked in for that?

photochick Tue 30-Apr-13 09:22:23

wow Mama 6 months - amazing!!

Keys86 Tue 30-Apr-13 09:42:18

I'm still here and waiting!
Had a horrible sweep at mw yesterday, it was incredibly painful! And not even a sign that it has worked, not even a side effect of having it done! Gutted booked for another on Sun but not sure if I want another!

I've also pulled my rib muscles really badly from coughing so can't move without crying out on pain.

mama I can't believe Alex is 6 months, that is crazy!

How many of us left now? It's beginning to feel a bit lonely in these last stages.

Rivergirly Tue 30-Apr-13 11:13:19

Aw Keys my sweeps in previous pregnancies were really painful hence this time I haven't had one so far and they didn't help before either which has helped the decision this time - don't mind the pain if it is going to help get things moving!!

I think here Jacq they let us go home again with pessary induction - I am assuming that is what they are going to do with us on Thursday night but of definite as in my two precious pregnancies I did have to have the drip in the end anyway so they may just go straight to that anyway?!? Anyway good luck for today I hope it gets things moving for you - you may just scrape in to April still!!

Teapig Tue 30-Apr-13 12:40:44

Congratulations helens!

Hope all the mummies to be are doing well. Not much longer now xx

SneezySnatcher Tue 30-Apr-13 13:43:13

Congratulations to all of those with new babies! I wonder if any others will sneak into April?

photochick Tue 30-Apr-13 19:30:58

Been to the midwife. She offered me a sweep which I had - wasn't quite prepared for the discomfort at the time but it was ok and at least I have done something to encourage things along. If all else fails will be induced on the 9th May! Hoping things happen before then!!

Dysgu Tue 30-Apr-13 23:28:14

Here we are approaching the last half hour of April - I wonder if any babies are going to sneak in before May arrives?

Congratulations helen

leluella Wed 01-May-13 02:25:58

Congratulations helens lovely choice of name.

JH hope the induction is progressing well for you.

Pop pom shake and sympathies to everyone else overdue, I know how disheartening the wait can be.

usernamegoeshere Wed 01-May-13 05:44:46

Congratulations helens

Good luck for inductions, I hope you have nice easy births! Can't believe it's 1st may now, not long and the last babies will be out am sure.

DannyBoy10 Wed 01-May-13 12:53:08

Good luck everyone still waiting. Once your babies are here all the stress and discomfort will be worth it, honestly!

birdbrain17 Wed 01-May-13 14:52:33

come on babies, did nobody tell you it's the 1st of may today?!
waiting to hear good news from everyone still hanging around smile

Ollibobs Wed 01-May-13 17:01:01

phantomhairpuller Wed 01-May-13 17:05:07

photochick Wed 01-May-13 20:32:33

Still waiting too!
sweep yesterday and really strong period type cramps ever since plus a show today. fingers crossed!

Knewtothis Thu 02-May-13 05:41:07

Hello all still hanging on. Convinced I would go 2 weeks late with a due date of 30th and first baby, was surprised when waters broke early on 26th. Almost 3 days later and after a very traumatic time, baby knew arrived on Monday 29th weighing 7.10 pounds. We are well, in love but very tired. May be going home today.

Hang on in there everyone, not long to go now - there is light at the end of the tunnel!

HadALittleFaithBaby Thu 02-May-13 07:40:55

Congratulations knew, hope you get home soon! Sorry to hear at was traumatic. Hope you're recovering ok.

phantomhairpuller Thu 02-May-13 08:00:45

Am 40+4 but previous c-section. Will keep you posted!

Mama1980 Thu 02-May-13 08:02:03

Still thinking of you all and cheering/waving Pom poms! Come on babies its may now - did no one tell you?! grin

MrsB76 Thu 02-May-13 08:08:52

Hi ladies,

Congratulations to all who've had their babies!

I am 40+2 today and just had a bloody show this morning, excuse my language! smile We went to see the midwife yesterday who offered a sweep (rather early, in my opinion, but bring it on) and she said as this is DC3, my cervix is already 2cms - that's apparently normal with second, third etc babies but not a sign of impending delivery. So she gave me the sweep which was not as bad as I expected and I got a nice pub lunch and a half pint with DH afterwards smile I made him take off half a day in case something happens and at one point I had regular strong contractions 14 minutes apart, but by 10pm it all stopped. So we all went to sleep. I hope something kicks off today though.

photochick Thu 02-May-13 11:11:39

congrats knew
hope things get moving MrsB!

so forgive an indulgent update from me (and any hand holding gratefully received).....

Hade a sweep Tuesday eve, period type cramps for 24hours. Contractions started about 9pm last night. Up all night. went to hospital at 5 this morning to be checked. 2cms!!

Omg this hurts (stupid naive me!) esp as the little madam has moved to almost be back to back (first time she has moved position this pregnancy!).

Have an elaborate set up on our bed with pillows and my birthing ball and tens machine and wotsits.

Think this might take a while!

bext Thu 02-May-13 11:15:36

Hang on in there Photochick! At least your LO is on its way so hold the thought of the prize at the end in mind and maybe that will make the pain now seem a bit better. Lots of deep breathing (and wotsitsgrin).

Good luck grin.

birdbrain17 Thu 02-May-13 13:02:23

photochick so exciting, hope things move quickly and you meet your lo soon, keep us updated grin good luck!!!!

usernamegoeshere Thu 02-May-13 14:36:18

Good luck photochick !

KelleStar Thu 02-May-13 20:04:55

Photochick, Wilf made his appearance back to back, it was really intense, have a look at the spinning babies website, has some good positions for b2b labour. Fingers crossed it all goes quickly.

I also had a week of overnight contractions that were every 5-7 minutes but faded by morning. Until my waters went I thought it was going to be another night of pain.

Good luck to all waiting, I watch with anticipation, still, to hear the outcome of your efforts!

Mama1980 Thu 02-May-13 20:15:55

Good luck photochick- thinking of you xx

Teapig Fri 03-May-13 04:33:23

edinfirst Fri 03-May-13 09:11:03

Good luck photo and hang on in there Oli

<waves pompoms for anyone else still waiting but so fed up they can't even bring themselves to post>

HadALittleFaithBaby Fri 03-May-13 09:48:02

Come on baby Olli! <starts Mexican wave>

photochick Fri 03-May-13 12:12:40

baby Sylvia (middle name to be decided) was born today at 3.51am weighing 8lbs.

Had been having contractions from 9pm Tuesday. Got checked in hospital 5am yesterday morning. Sent home with a tens machine which I didn't realise was so effective until I took it off at 8.30pm to have a bath. Lasted 1/2 an hour. Got to hospital just before 10 - 9cms! No wonder it bloody hurt!

Got in birthing pool which was lovely but contractions stopped so had to get out and go on a drip. Still fine till her shoulder got stuck and I got left with a third degree tear :-/

She is beautiful and perfect though and I will heal!

HadALittleFaithBaby Fri 03-May-13 12:58:37

What an experience! Well congratulations photo thanks welcome to the world Sylvia!

usernamegoeshere Fri 03-May-13 13:03:46

Congrats Knew! Lovely name!

Ollibobs Fri 03-May-13 16:30:32

And congratulations to photo! Wishing you a speedy recovery and love the name!

bext Fri 03-May-13 18:53:21

All I can say is thank god that it's sunny or I would be finding the waiting game extremely difficult. I'm consoling myself with the fact that getting a sun-tanned face now will make me look much more human on those "just given birth" photographs when women usually look like they've just been dug up from a grave grin.

Huge congratulations to photochick, jacqueline, dancinglola, lilie86 and rivergirly, there's been a good baby rush in the last couple of days!

bext Fri 03-May-13 19:08:28

So in my boredom, I've updated the Facebook list (sorry I'm not sure how to do the list on here).

Can anyone remember whether there was news was about Aufaniae, Alwayshopeful, or Cheeseandmushroomtoastie? I feel like I've seen posts from them but they haven't been updated on the list. I hope all is ok with them and they've just dropped off the board in the chaos of new-mumhood. Or perhaps they're on the post-natal board and I've missed them. smile

HadALittleFaithBaby Fri 03-May-13 20:11:00

Oh you poor soul bext! I hope it's not long.

cheese definitely had her baby. The others I'm not sure about...are there not many MIA then?

bext Fri 03-May-13 20:29:51

There's quite a few MIA but the ones below were the ones who I could remember had posted fairly recently so I had a feeling I'd missed news rather than they'd gone AWOL before birth IYSWIM!

Ollibobs Fri 03-May-13 23:23:16

Is it just me or are there only a few of us waiting for our babies left on this board? It's so quiet over here while the post-natal thread is bustling. hmm

Who's left to pop?

toobreathless Sat 04-May-13 01:52:57

Just popping by to say a huge congratulations to all those who have just had their babies.

Thinking of those still waiting Olli & bext my DD1 was induced eventually very late so I feel your pain!

bext Sat 04-May-13 02:43:32

Oil, I fear it's just me and you hmm

Perhaps we should pack our bags and take up early residence on the post natal thread? At least we'll learn a few things!

It's been a very long time since I checked in, but I'm still waiting. 40+11 now, so induction tomorrow if nothing happens in the next 24 hrs.

photochick Sat 04-May-13 05:37:35

Good luck olli bext and fact, plus anyone else left!

Just over 24hrs in and I say get your test while you can x x

jj247 Sat 04-May-13 10:31:49

Good luck olli bext and fact not long to go now although I know how excruciating the wait can be.
I've not made it to the postnatal thread yet (don't know how everyone find time to view let alone post! )
Charlotte is 5 days old today and still won't let us put her down so dp and I are pretty exhausted at doing the tag team every night. Also suffering very sore nipples making breast feeding very painful but I only have to gaze at her to know it's all worthwhile.
I went in for an induction at 10am Sunday, still just 1 cm dilated after 2 sweeps the week before. The first pessary wasn't put in properly so it fell out 2 hrs later when I went to the loo. Second attempt was put in around 3:30pm and we went for a wander round the hospital. My Hind waters had been dribbling since the morning and that dribble seemed to increase as did my period type pains. By 4:30pm the pains were definitely cycling but immediately every 2 minutes and very intense. The consultant came in and checked to say my waters had broken and I was 2cm dilated, but monitoring the baby's heart beat revealed it doing very low with each contraction.
By 8pm the heart rate wasn't recovering enough and in an instant an alarm was raised and a crash team rushed me into theatre for an immediate emrrgency section. The entire surgical team introduced themselves then baby's heart rate Rose again. Shift change meant an entire new team in theatre and dp being allowed in fully gowned up and thankfully asked for some pain relief for me so I got the gas and air. As the heart rate settled down we were allowed back out to a labour room where I'd become 3-4cm dilated (is that all!). Midwife persuaded me to have some more pain relief as baby's heart rate was still dropping with each contraction. Immediate difference to myself and baby, heart rate still went down but recovery was much faster. As pain relief wore off i'd finally become fully dilated but I felt no urge to push. An hour later still nothing so midwife tried talking me through it but still nothing. At this point she insisted I get off all 4s and sit with get in stirrups just what I hadn't wanted. I was given an hour to deliver or back to theatre for forceps delivery. Thankfully they could then see progress so I get being given extensions and finally Charlotte appeared 1hr snd 45mins later. We'd asked for delayed cord clamping but immediately the cord was clamped and cut, she was rubbed vigorously with a total and whisked away. The cord had been tight round her neck probably causing all the previous dips in her heart rate. 5mins later she was brought back though perfect in every way smile.
Despite nothing going to our originsl plan apart from getting a vaginal birth I think the labour went well, I've no cuts or tears and both of us are doing so well, I've nothing but praise for the staff at the hospital.

Olli Bext & Fact the waiting must be driving you mad! I hope the babies decide to put in an appearance very soon. Good luck to you all :D

I still haven't made it to the postnatal thread, I can just about keep up with FB!

Will be checking for your news and cheering you on smile

birdbrain17 Sun 05-May-13 11:36:28

jj what a story but at least your lo is here safely now and your both ok...
those still waiting hang on nobody can have much longer to go now we're nearly a week into may!But you are more then welcome to join the postnatal thread early if you're feeling to lonely here smile

can't wait to see this thread quiet and abandoned wink xx

MrsB76 Sun 05-May-13 14:46:38

Hi Ladies,

last night at 2am I had contractions lasting 60 seconds, 2-3 minutes apart, so we took a cab to the hospital - where they promptly stopped! Was told I was still at 2cm and sent home - nothing happening since. Today 40+5. Argh! Will probably be the last one to have their baby! Congrats to everyone with LOs and wishing lots of strength for those first few months.

Supershiv1 Sun 05-May-13 20:07:07

Hello. I'm from July antenatal thread but actually gave birth on 13th April. I suppose I should join the post natal thread.
Oliver is in NICU and only weighed just over 1lb, but he's still fighting. And Ollibobs is what I call him x

Trishstar Sun 05-May-13 20:09:01

Welcome Supershiv. How is Oliver doing? Xx

Supershiv1 Sun 05-May-13 22:25:38

Ups and downs. Damn scary. Had the consultant conversation of doom 3 times so far (I.e. next 24 hrs critical, 30% survival chance, extreme prematurity etc).
Living on site at hospital as level 3 NICU is away from home.
Had a quick look at April post natal but don't think I'm in the same place as the other April mums (will get jealous hearing about cuddles etc) so will stick to July and the premature section. blush
Good luck to all those left to pop x

bext Sun 05-May-13 22:42:08

Welcome Supershiv. We've had a premature superstar on this thread in the form of Alexander, son of Mama, who was born at 25 weeks and is now a bouncing six month old so you're in good company. Hope your Oliver continues to make good progress.

MrsB, we're due date buddies so let's make a pact to produce on the same day and we'll not leave anyone behind, yes?!

HadALittleFaithBaby Mon 06-May-13 08:42:40

Hello to supershiv. Congratulations on your arrival! It's totally up to you if you want to join our post-natal thread - we had many early arrivals and as bext says, our little miracle Alex is a fantastic example of survival against the odds!

Still rooting for those of you waiting! smile

Supershiv1 Mon 06-May-13 10:50:29

Oooooh, is mama on much as I was 25 wks too and could do with some inspiration? I can't find many with similar stories to mine as Oliver was only 565g & I gave birth at home and hubby had to resuscitate so the fact he is still here is a miracle and he's been given less odds than a heavier hospital born 25 weeker.

HadALittleFaithBaby Mon 06-May-13 10:55:44

Yes she's on lots! Pop over and have a look. Alex just passed his due date and now weighs over 7lb! I bet she wouldn't mind you PMing her either...

Mama1980 Mon 06-May-13 20:16:56

Hi supershiv, as the other ladies have said my ds Alex was born at 24 1/2 weeks in December my due date was the 1st of April. I hope its ok If i send you a pm. X

Still waving Pom poms and cheering for everyone still waiting- hurry up babies grin xxx

nottinghillmom1234 Tue 07-May-13 07:12:44

hi ladies - sorry for not updating in a while. my little baby boy was born on may 2nd at 40+1 week. i had to be sweeped as the amniotic fluid was reducing and baby but thank god i started contractions he day i was sweeped. my little boy and i are doing fine - just my stitches hurt too much as i had to be cut down there as his wasn't coming down.

many congratulations to all the new mums - hope everyone is doing fine.

was wondering if anyone is having issues with breastfeeding. imgoing crazy as my baby is always hungry and looks like im not producing enough milk to satisfy him which is really depressing me. i would love to breastfeed him. does anyone have any tip on how to increase milk? is anyone else facing this problem - if yes, how r u coping up with it? please help...

HadALittleFaithBaby Tue 07-May-13 07:40:31

Hi Notting, congratulations on the birth of your DS! We are BF after a shaky start. What specific problems are you having? When you say you don't think you're producing enough milk - is that based on how much he's feeding or a lack of weight gain? DD has what I call 'feeding frenzies' - she can be on the boob for 4/5 hours with very little break. However the midwife team and health visitor are happy that she's gaining weight. Apparently the feeding frenzy thing is totally normal and just an indicator of growth spurts. I just try to get comfy, make sure I have plenty to drink and have snacks to hand and ride it out. The more it happens the easier I find it to cope with! Now that she's 3 weeks I have been expressing (just with a hand pump) and DH has given her a couple of bottles so that I can rest at times without her going hungry.
There are ways of increasing your milk production and how much they get from BF - I've been reading The womanly art of breastfeeding which I've found incredibly helpful.
However if your DS isn't gaining weight you need to speak to healthcare professionals - that's a different concern to just having a hungry baby!

KelleStar Tue 07-May-13 19:21:43

Hi notting congratulations on your DS. I am a second timer and DS is so different from DD, he feeds furiously and in short goes, about 15-20 mins, until mid afternoon/early evening where he just wants to be on the boob for 4 hours or so. He is now 11 days old and gained 10.5oz since birth!!!

I agree with faith that you should seek help if he isn't gaining, but if he is gaining keep going with it, your supply responds to his needs. It can take a few days for the response though, I always had a little worry about it, every time.

With DD I 'roomed in' spent lots of time in jammies, drinking plenty of water and some good snacks/meals in the house, mostly in bed, reading a book while having her attached to the boob pretty constantly. I did this at pretty much every growth spurt, it helped my supply adjust, being relaxed helps.

Try the BF/FF threads here on MN, or www.kellymom.com hope that's the right link, for some good advice.

It is by far the hardest thing I have had to do, but it can be very rewarding.

nottinghillmom1234 Wed 08-May-13 19:12:01

Thank you so much for your advice Faith & KelleStar So the midwife came today and we figure he's not latching properly and that's why hungry and cranky all the time. i'm finding it very hard and feel i'm keeping my baby hungry. I tried expressing milk today and only 2 0Z came out from both breasts and my baby is 6 days old. He needs 3 OZ in each feed - i know this as when he's very hungry i have to give him formula and he drinks 3 OZ - is that too much? I'm really losing confidence now sad Will check out the links you guys sent - in the meanwhile please let me know if there is anything else I can do - my husband is suggesting we switch to formula as it's taking a toll on me and no one can enjoy the baby as everyone is really stressed out sad I would like to BF but have zero confidence now as I feel I don't have enough milk sad

birdbrain17 Wed 08-May-13 19:19:06

notting it can take time for your milk supply to be properly established, but being stressed won't help!! Come over onto the postnatal thread when you have time, a few people had problems starting and may have some advice for you. Main thing is to keep feeding and drinking lots to get your supply established, I was told to drink 2l a day which I've really been trying to do and seem to have too much milk so maybe you're not getting enough fluid?! good luck, you'll get there in the end as long as you keep trying x

nottinghillmom1234 Wed 08-May-13 19:24:47

And yes, he's gained weight by 20 grams. So first he lost his birth weight by 4% then on the last visit mid wife told me he's gained 20 grams but he should have gained 40 grams as they say baby should gain 20 grams a day.

HadALittleFaithBaby Wed 08-May-13 19:31:01

Remember as well, the more you bf, the more your supply will come in! We had to top up Faithlet to start with but now she's getting enough breast milk. You might find you can express more from one boob than the other. Also try expressing when you wake up - milk supply tends to increase overnight and I find I can usually get more off about 7am after she's fed.

Just keep offering the breast whenever he fusses. Are you using a bottle or cup? Do come over to the post-natal thread. You're not alone.

Teapig Wed 08-May-13 19:36:58

Hi notting, congratulations on the birth of your little one!

We had a very shaky to start to BF but now seem to be in the swing of it. Like baby notting our little one didn't latch properly initially and I stoppef BF for a couple of days as it was agony. With the MWs help we got the latch right, trying different positions helped.

With milk supply the MWs advice was to keep feeding/expressing every three hours to keep supply up, that seems to have worked for us. I've been mix feeding when needed so topping up with formula when I need to. I'm not recommending it as I know the advice is to establish BF before introducing formula but it's worked for us. Teapiglet has formula if I can't fill her up but most of the time she has my milk now.

I'd say don't give up, it's early days so keep going with it if you can. Don't put any pressure on yourself though, a happy mum and happy baby are much more important than BF IMO. Wishing you luck xx

Mama1980 Wed 08-May-13 20:41:53

Nottinghill- congratulations! grin thanks Do come over to the postnatal thread, you are not alone and there's loads of great advice being offered there.

phantomhairpuller Wed 08-May-13 20:54:36

Being induced tomorrow grin finally the end is in sight!

HadALittleFaithBaby Wed 08-May-13 21:09:03

Bless you phantom, what a wait! smile

birdbrain17 Thu 09-May-13 15:45:20

phantom finally!! Good luck for tomorrow can't wait to see you on the postnatal thread x

lili86 Thu 09-May-13 16:58:20

Hi ladies, Congratulations on all the new arrivals! Our little girl arrived at 40+3. Mollie Rose Jane Rawlins arrived on 1st May, at 11.58am, weighing 8lbs! First contraction at 7.45am, took ds to school, phoned labour ward as contractions were 5-6mins apart but only lasting 30-40secs. Was told to phone if i needed to go in or phone ambulance if i got the urge to push.
Had a shower and by 11am i knew it was happening fast! Phoned dh at work snd he went shopping before coming home!!! Phoned again to get him home now as was pushing on bathroom floor- ALONE! Called ambulance which arrived at 11.39 and was in hospital at 11.49, waters broke and she was born 9mins later! 2nd degree tear again but a breeze compared to ds birth.
Totally in love! Are we all delivered yet?x

HadALittleFaithBaby Thu 09-May-13 21:19:42

Crikey lil! Good job you called the ambulance! Did your DH arrive in time?! Well congratulations thanks

can't be many left to drop now? Anyone still there lurking?!

bext Thu 09-May-13 22:32:57

Congrats Lili, what a speedy arrival!

I'm still lurking. 41+3 and second sweep tomorrow. I think I'm the last though so I may as well just come over to the post natal thread now. They let you go to 42+2 here as I'm hoping for a home birth so it could conceivably be the end of next week before I've got a babe in arms if they don't induce me until next Wednesday/Thursday. Feel like this baby is just never ever going to come. hmm

phantomhairpuller Fri 10-May-13 08:47:59

He's finally here! Didn't need the induction after all, went into labour at 11pm Wednesday, hospital by 8am Thursday morning at 7cm dilated. Massive fluid bulge pressing on cervix and baby's head still quite high up. Finally decided to do ARM when I was at 9cm but head didn't come down and consequently my cervix went back to 4-5cm and wouldn't budge any further hmm emergency section arranged after which I haemorrhaged so not the best of starts but am feeling much better now and baby is gorgeous grin happy phantom!

HadALittleFaithBaby Fri 10-May-13 09:10:20

Congratulations on the birth of your son phantom! What an entrance into the world! Take it easy while you recover. Does he have a name yet?

Mama1980 Fri 10-May-13 09:34:00

Congratulations Lili and phantom grin thanks xxx
Is there anyone still waiting?

phantomhairpuller Fri 10-May-13 10:48:07

No name yet faith, DH is set on Arthur but I'm not so sure. Oscar and Freddie are also possibilities smile

Mama1980 Fri 10-May-13 11:11:10

Love all your name choices phantom smile
Bext- sorry I missed your post earlier, bless you- hurry up bext baby! grin I hope your not too uncomfortable? X

bext Fri 10-May-13 15:17:09

Congrats phantom, slightly spectacular entrance but at least you got there in the end. smile

Thanks for your post Mama. I'm feeling really down today. I had my heart set on a home birth and have done so much prep to try and make it possible despite family history of my mum and sister both going two weeks over and needing caesarians in the end. I went in for my second sweep today and she couldn't even find my cervix. Despite the baby being low and four fifths engaged, my cervix is firm and high, up and behind the baby's head. So despite all the walking I'm doing it doesn't mean his head is pushing on the cervix. It looks highly unlikely that I'll go into labour naturally and they insisted on booking me in for an induction on Tuesday. Technically I can say no but I just feel like I'm delaying the inevitable. It's everything I wanted to avoid. I was so excited about the idea of going through natural birth and I feel like I'm going to be cheated of that now.

I know the important thing is a healthy delivery of my little boy but an induction followed by lots of intervention / Caesarian is everything I didn't want. Perhaps it's because we had to have IVF - my body wouldn't do what it was supposed to be able to do so naturally at that end ofnthe process (ie conceive) that I at least wanted to be able to give birth. And now that feels like its going to be as medical and impersonal as the act of conception.

Sorry for the me me me self indulgent post, I'm just overly emotional and there's no-one in RL that would understand (and maybe you guys won't either but at least I've let off steam). x

Mama1980 Fri 10-May-13 15:43:21

Oh bext I'm sorry you're feeling so upset. I do completely understand where you're coming from. I have never given birth, never even gone into labour, my body couldn't do what it is supposed to do naturally and it is a feeling of being cheated in a way.
But as you say you need to stay focused on the end goal, a happy, healthy baby. Have you agreed to the induction on Tuesday?

KelleStar Fri 10-May-13 16:31:13

Oh Bex, I do understand what you mean, it can be so frustrating waiting for baby and holding onto these frustrations.

Choose what feels right, remember that your baby will be with you soon and you will forget how they arrived rather quickly smile

bext Fri 10-May-13 17:43:43

Thanks Kelle and Mama for your support, I really appreciate your posts. I know I just need to reconcile myself to him getting here safely whatever way, and if I can't do it myself, well that's just the way it is and at least I've got a baby at all which is some level of miracle anyway smile I'm sure I'll get there over the weekend and I'm going to talk to my home birth midwife on Monday and get some advice about whether to go in on Tuesday.

Thanks for the support xx

HadALittleFaithBaby Fri 10-May-13 18:12:27

Ah bext, sorry it looks like induction but as you say, it's about getting him out safely. I guess baby is happy sticking where he is - clearly you've made it too comfy for him! Induction doesn't mean you can't have a vaginal delivery but even a c-section means you get your baby!

After TTC for a long time ourselves we still stare at DD in astonishment that she's finally here! smile

wishfulthinking1 Fri 10-May-13 21:06:06

I'm still here cheering - sorry I haven't been posting much!
bext - sorry you're feeling down about things- Tuesday is still quite a while away- fx things kick off before then, but like the others have said, if an induction has to happen, then that's life- and it shan't be too long before your beautiful baby is here!

KelleStar Fri 10-May-13 21:16:33

I've just updated the stats thread's on FB and MN.

It's exciting seeing 36 boys and 37 girls, never found out what Caladria had. A few are still waiting...

74 arrivals...

Waving the pompoms for a few more arrivals soon!

DeekeyDoo Fri 10-May-13 23:17:58

Hello ladies
Congratulations on all your wonderful little people !
I used to post right in the beginning of my pregnancy but have just lurked ever since! Having seen that KelleStar has updated the stats I thought I'd let you know mine so they can be added if you like.

I had a girl called Mabel on 13 April and she weighed 9lb. Due date was 17th.

Hope you are all enjoying your babies and good luck Bext.

Teapig Sat 11-May-13 02:58:50

Congratulations deeky, phantom and lili! It's lovely to hear of the safe arrival of your little ones.

I'm sorry you're feeling upset bext, it's completely understandable. I hope things happen at home for you before Tuesday, however baby arrives though the method of delivery won't matter a bit. I had my heart set on an active labour and ended up with an induction and epidural and really it was ok. Looking forward to hearing your baby news soon x

photochick Sat 11-May-13 18:30:35

bext sorry to hear you are still waiting and facing induction. If it's any consolation at least the end is in sight.
I also agree that after how the baby arrives doesn't matter afterwards - I said from day one no to lying on my back on a bed - this is how I ended up due to things out of my control. In the end you want baby out and you both safe and well x

birdbrain17 Sun 12-May-13 11:30:35

bext good luck, hopefully things will start by themselves before induction, but the main thing is your lo arrives safely and your both ok! Thinking of you x

JoRich77 Mon 13-May-13 09:30:40

BEXT I know how you are feeling as I was planning a home birth, in fact I think we were due date buddies for 30th April. I ended uo having to be induced as waters broke but no contractions. Not the birth I envisaged - I didn't want to be tied to bed, monitored and wanted to avoid drugs and birth was opposite to what I wanted. I was a little upset that I didn't get the birth experience I wanted but honestly it was all worth it to get my beautiful baby girl at the end of it. All I can say is when you go into delivery focus on the end result and think about the next few weeks with your new baby - try not to focus on the birth experience its self as it is only a temporary thing and will be over soon and you will have yiur new baby to enjoy.

bext Mon 13-May-13 16:49:07

Thanks for all your posts and support guys. I really appreciate it. I'm seeing my home birth midwife tomorrow lunchtime for a final sweep and if she says nothing is happening at that stage, I will go in for induction either tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday. I've spent a lot of time thinking about it over the weekend and feel somewhat better about it. It's time to get excited about the prospect of holding my bubba in my arms, however he gets here. Xx

photochick Tue 14-May-13 17:57:13

bext hope things went well with the midwife and baby is with you soon x

KelleStar Tue 14-May-13 21:41:29

Fingers crossed for you BexT, hope you are snuggling your baby soon!

bext Wed 15-May-13 06:15:50

Hi all. Decided enough was enough with waiting so I came in yesterday. On the propess and contractions coming every four minutes or so, so hoping by tomorrow l'll get to meet my boy smile

HadALittleFaithBaby Wed 15-May-13 08:29:23

Ooh good luck bext! smile

KatyT86 Wed 15-May-13 12:18:19

Best of luck bext! It will all be worth it! X

bext Fri 17-May-13 00:47:48

So after 24 hours on propess I had got to 1cm and they couldn't get enough access to my cervix to break my waters. They stuck me on a trace and decided he was tachycardic, so kept me on the trace for the next three hours, which I'm convinced just kept LO more tachy as he hates those monitors. They decided to get me checked into the delivery suite for constant monitoring (I'd been in the midwifery led unit) so they took me down and left us overnight to see what the remains of the propess did.
I had some codeine but otherwise had varying contractions all night - often two minutes long. As the night went on though they got further apart.
So by doctors rounds at 10 they decided oxytocin was the way forward. I had wanted to avoid an epidural (don't ask me why now, I must have been crazygrin) but was knackered after two sleepless nights so said yes please to one as I knew the oxy would be full on once it started.
So they hooked me up by 1pm. Everyone managed expectations saying it could still take ages so I settled down thinking snooze and a little magazine reading.
Midwife tried to get a stan clip on the baby's head at 3.30 only to find I was fully dilated! They left me for two hours for the head to descend and I started pushing at 5.30. She'd said she'd give us an hour before they got doctors in to help. 9 proper pushes later over three contractions and there he was. Amazing!

Theo Wilson, 7lb9oz born 5.40pm on the 16th May.

Surely the last baby on the April thread?!
Thanks for all your amazing support ladies, you have been wonderful and I'm so excited to come join you all on the post natal thread.
