How many babies are we going to get on this thread?

Bellaboo123 Sat 01-Dec-12 04:15:58

Thanks honey

EggsMichelle Sat 01-Dec-12 04:18:36

Thanks Honey

Bella it's getting exciting for you! I'm also relieved its not my turn today, this cold is making me feel terrible, not had a cold this bad in years! I'm hungry too but scared ill be making frequent toilet trips again.

Watching deep blue sea, such a cheesy film!

Thanks honey

I would quite like to meet my baby now tbh. Was stupidly sick last night, not sure why but it wasn't fun. I want to be me again and not ill and uncomfy. (and with a squishy newborn).

Hmm...I've missed a whole thread haven't I?

I have no news, the baby is still there, due date Monday and nothing. Went for acupuncture yesterday and after two needles everything went black soooo that didn't suit me. I have bought a lovely clary sage and jasmine oil from neals yard and last week had the best session of reflexology I've ever had so it's not all bad.

Think I had better go and find out who has had their babies on the last thread!!

Clarella Sat 01-Dec-12 05:07:44

Lol dp honey!

Gah I always post on the old thread!

Ooo bella maybe it is?! Hope so.

o body mentioned my cervix till the actual sweep at 40+1 and unless they do an internal for some reason (eg going into labour, checking how dilated or something else to do with consultant care) I'm not sure they do?I've had my hopes up/freaked out so many times in the last 4 weeks with niggles and pains and contractions I'm starting to think I'll ignore anything that does start happening!Sorry there's so many people with colds. It makes it just so crap and I agree you really don't feel like doing the labour thing. I'm still feeling very oddly woozy but no actual cold symptoms other than watery eyes. Hoping I'm fighting it.

Hope you haven't got what I had stacey it's bloody hard being sick with a bump.

Clarella Sat 01-Dec-12 05:08:29

No body ...

2blessed Sat 01-Dec-12 05:23:09

Lost track of thread a bit - on phone- hope everyone is good.

MaMaPo Sat 01-Dec-12 05:47:02

Stupidly still awake - this feels like proper insomnia. Given up bed
- now up for toast and tea. Bah - I'm sleepy! --This will teach me not
to nap in the afternoon.--

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Sat 01-Dec-12 06:01:54

Signing in, for all the sleep-deprived sense I'll make <matchsticks>

Walnut8 Sat 01-Dec-12 06:55:29

knottyhair Sat 01-Dec-12 07:13:48

Hi all, just checking in on new thread (I don't post much blush). Good luck to all of you showing signs of things happening! I'm just hoping my little girl stays put until ELCS booked for 17th. Will check back later to see if there's any developments for anyone!

kiwi5 Sat 01-Dec-12 07:15:33

Hi. Just wanted to wish all you ladies the best of luck. Hope you are all snuggled up with ur little ones after a lovely labour! My december pudding was not meant to be, i lost it back in may. I am now expecting a june strawberry! Take care of yourselves and have a wonderful christmas. Unmumsnetty love xxx

Pop sounds like it Bella I did a lot of pacing and rocking on all fours in my early stages and I think that really helped move things along. If they stop then quickly sleep as mine did for a good hour and a half before they came back with a vengeance! Exciting!

That should say ooo not pop hmm

kiwi that's lovely news best of luck for an uneventful pregnancy!

pmgkt Sat 01-Dec-12 07:26:47

Marking place!. I had some braxton hicks last night, and my mum, who is staying for a few nights sent everyone to bed, saying just in case let's get some sleep now. Slight over reaction but great way to get an early night and I slept very well too.

JoJoB77 Sat 01-Dec-12 07:49:31

Best of luck kiwi hope you have a smooth and happy pregnancy.
Hope there is some progression v soon clarella, I'm bad enough now I dread to think what I'll be like when overdue!
I can't remember who mentioned clary sage? (stacey maybe ?!) but I've been using it for a while now and nope, nothing. I mix it with bio oil and put some in my bath.
I have a really weird sensation in my fango this morning (sorry tmi) it's different to the shooting pains.. Almost feels.. Bruised?? Anyone ?!

Clarella Sat 01-Dec-12 08:00:42

I thought you'd maybe popped too strawb!

Cookies, I had a swollen bruised feeling for a while over a week ago, also in top of thighs. Yet another sign that's buggered off leaving me feeling like I'm 28 weeks again!!!!!

Clarella Sat 01-Dec-12 08:02:01

Congratulations kiwi!

How are you and Felix today spotty?

I'm ok thanks am home at the moment. He had his lumber puncture and it was clear of meningitis but was slightly yellow which could be down to the jaundice or an hold brain bleed so they want to do a brain scan sad but I'm quite optimistic. Going to stay tonight and it'll be the last night as dp has to go back to work Monday so I'm never going to get to see Felix sad

Mummycox Sat 01-Dec-12 08:14:01

Good luck Bella and Kiwi

ISpyPlumPie Sat 01-Dec-12 08:53:41

Barbeasty Sat 01-Dec-12 08:57:58

I can't believe I've woken up and there are 2 new babies here, December really has started with a bang. Let's hope we continue this way grin

Brooke That all sounds promising, good luck smile

The curry gave me heartburn, so I've been awake since 4 sad Some cramping, but nothing regular or to stop me in my tracks. Not my turn yet I don't think, but it's now December and my baby will definitely be born this month grin

Oh my goodness, what an eventful night!

Congratulations weejo and ispy what lovely news to wake up to!

Wonder what curry ispy had?! Definitely trying one later!

Congratulations weejo and ispy that's such lovely news to start the month off to thanks and our first girlie too! Welcome to the world little ones!

Any 'twinge' I feel is always the need for a wee/poo/wind, pretty disappointing.

itsMYNutella Sat 01-Dec-12 09:49:23

Ooooohhh another one! Congratulations ISPY!! Awww what great news smile agree with the other posters, these babies reallllllly wanted to be born in December grin

Spotty I have everything possible (while this pregnant) crossed for you that baby Felix keeps improving and you can have him at home, for as many snuggles as you want, very soon!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Sat 01-Dec-12 10:15:16

Congratulations WeeJo and ISpy and welcome to the world MiniJo and Nathaniel thanks

A calmer night but still full of cluster feeds but i managed 2 separate hours plus 6:30 - 8:30 so feeling ok today smile

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 10:32:51

* Please help*
For those of you with kids..... DH's kids 6 & 11 always slap there chops when eating, we tell them all the time not to. Is this something all kids do? Am I just being picky and need to ease up on them? Also dd 6 talks with mouth full... Again, should I let up on her as it will pass, I'm hoping it won't continue into adulthood.

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 10:33:41

Just saw..... Congratulations ispy envy

Stacks Sat 01-Dec-12 10:34:28

Wow, two new babies and one maybe on the way! What an eventful night.

Congratulations weejo and ispy, and good luck bella.

Hope everything goes well with Felix today spotty.

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 10:34:35

And weejo wow! It's really going now!

emily there's no excuse for bad manners.

Good news this morning Felix is completely off all his oxygen which means loads less wires. Feeds still increasing and glucose drip still on a normal level so suppose they will reduce it again. He's under a light for his jaundice so has some little goggles on grin

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 10:48:36

Yay spotty <dose a little dance>

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 10:54:12

Does oops !

Congratulations weejo and Ispy envy

spotty that's great news. Fx he keeps improving.

emily my kids have to be reminded about 20 times during a meal to eat with their mouths closed and not talk with food in their mouths. I would never let it slide though, just keep nagging!

Feeling sad today. Just feel like I'm never going to get my baby, although that is obviously ridiculous. Feeling very sorry for myself. My curries did not work. Lots of exercise has not worked. Sorry I shall stop being a self indulgent arse!

MaMaPo Sat 01-Dec-12 10:58:00

Great news, ISpy and weejo! I wonder how Bella is getting on.

Good news too about oxygen Spotty - getting better all the time.

After horrendous insomnia got another 4 hours' sleep! grin

Equimum Sat 01-Dec-12 10:59:08

Congratulations Wejo and iSpy.

Really pleased to hear your good news Spotty. I hope things continue to improve

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 11:03:45

Thanks stacey. I also feel like baby is still so far away. I said to dh this morning "we're gonna have a baby THIS MONTH!" bet it's jan though. When are you due stacey

HoneyMum21 Sat 01-Dec-12 11:19:05

Yay spotty. So glad felix is doing well smile

I'm due 16th but because of my gestational diabetes they will induce me on the 14th. Which makes my 'never going to have this baby' even more ridiculous as I know by the 15/16th I will be holding my newborn one way or another. It's just that it still feels so far away. With the other dcs I had 2 wks latent labour (contractions going from 30 minutes apart to 3 minutes apart and back again.) then they were both born at 38+5. This time I had 1 day of contractions last Sunday but I think that was more my bodies reaction to the stomach bug. And nothing at all since. Im 38wks tomorrow and soooo fed up.

When are u due emily? I think it was clarella said earlier, this whole due date thing is a bit rubbish because you set your expectations for that date and baby generally mucks up your plans lol.

MaMaPo Sat 01-Dec-12 12:09:46

Stacey, I'm due on the 15th and also keen for baby to arrive slightly early if anything. But after listening to people and doing some research, I think that there's precious little the mother can do to bring on labour. Stories about having sex and curry are a little tenuous and not really backed up by research, and as far as I've seen acupuncture is also hit and miss, and so the upshot is that mothers can be made to feel like failures before bloody childbirth. ("Oh, you walked 5 miles today and nothing happened? You should have walked 6.") So I am trying to keep rested, healthy and active, and trust that things will happen as they happen.

(Would quite like it to happen next week though. grin Not to mention the spicy food thing would do nothing for me anyway as I eat it all the time and never have...er... physical reactions to it, if you see what I mean.)

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Sat 01-Dec-12 12:25:09

I figure that if eating curry triggered labour, half of Asia wouldn't have got to term hmm As India (for example) has a long and fascinating history, i assume they're doing something right as a society!

Walnut8 Sat 01-Dec-12 12:31:35

Oh no spotty sad. At least no meningitis and it's surely more likely to be jaundice than a brain bleed or anything more serious. Is there anyone who can help out so that you can get in and see him more frequently once you are home? Have they indicated how much longer he'll need to be in? At least he is in a safe place and getting the care he needs. I'm sure he'll be home with you before you know it.

Great news spotty go little Felix! And laughs at teeny tiny goggles, so cute! .

I know it's near on impossible but try to tell yourself at LEAST you won't go over due stacey. I wish I had an 'end is in sight promise' of when I would have her by. Keep on being busy? I know they ahout and say relax but with me it's easier to keep busy and not sit and dwell on the fact I'm still the size of a (very comfy) house with no baby to cuddle. It's like it's too cold in there and they can sense it's warmer in there !

Oh and emily, agree with no manners. I, personally, cannot stnd it. Persevere- my DD (3) will tell me off if I say something with my mouth full! shock I guess nagging does work!

Saphiesgirl Sat 01-Dec-12 12:37:25

Congratulations weejo and Ispy- great news, and congratulations to others who've had their babies. Seconds was it you with the fast labour? Sorry am on phone, but I hope whoever it was is doing ok, as challenging as a long labour is, people often underestimate how difficult a fast one is- both physical and mental shock for you both. I hope you're recovering well and settling down to lovely cuddles! Spotty- great news for you too, I'm glad things on the up.

Hope everyone is doing ok, I officially have 3 weeks to go till due date and already fed up- cant imagine making 39 weeks (ds born at 38+2!) so I hope this one is prompt!

Walnut8 Sat 01-Dec-12 12:38:53

Whoops, sorry post was a bit delayed - refresh didn't work then reposted an old draft of a message confused Anyway spotty glad to hear he's doing so well now!

And congrats on the new babies ispy and weejo! Wow is that our first girl then? Any news from bella?

mamapo I'm with you on the curry thing - has never made me more erm.. frequent. If anything just more gassy! blush After waiting more than 2 weeks over due date to have DD and trying absolutely everything I am firmly of the opinion that babies come when they want.

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 12:42:49

stacey I'm due 28th, I have a growth scan on the 6 so maybe I'll be told I won't be able to go passed due date. My belly looks like I've swallowed an octopus alive as its squirming and moving all over the place! (maybe baby is too big already!) hmm

Re nagging I will persevere but only have them every two weeks

EggsMichelle Sat 01-Dec-12 12:44:12

Congratulations Weejo and Ispy, got the month started with a bang! Spotty Felix just keeps going from strength to strength, he is a determined little man!

I consider my due date to be between 6th-20th, I don't expect to be early but that would be a nice bonus, and at the same time I won't be disappointed when I'm overdue!

DH just made me home made soup, yummy!

giraffe213 Sat 01-Dec-12 13:00:32

Congratulations weejo and Ispy, thanks smile and a little bit envy!

I'm feeling really over-emotional today, is that a sign of anything starting? Please? grin

FriendofDorothy Sat 01-Dec-12 13:01:54

Checking in. I want my baby to come NOW!

Bellaboo123 Sat 01-Dec-12 13:03:24

Aurelia was born at 10.36 this morning and weighs 5lb 14oz.

Got to hospital and was 9cm dilated!

Au natural but with a small cut to ease her out.

Will fill u later on the details

Still she'll shocked!

Congratulations bella welcome to the world Aurelia

Just thrown up my lunch, that will help my blood sugars hmm

emily I know it must be hard, but just keep trying. I have the opposite problem, when dcs come back from XH they have shocking manors for 2-3 days until I can beat it into them nag them that they have to be polite. Is your growth scan for gd?

brooke89 Sat 01-Dec-12 13:14:49

Wow bella 9 cm! Looking forward to hearing the story! Congratulations and such a beautiful name envythanks

pmgkt Sat 01-Dec-12 13:24:46

Emily my SD does this too, cos she is allowed to at home. She has a couple of warnings then tea goes in the bin. Harsh maybe but its so annoying, and if its something she really likes she manages not to do it.

pmgkt Sat 01-Dec-12 13:32:19

Congrats to all the births. And those who are feeling like its never going to end, our time will come. Let's hope that some people remember to come and check the antenatel thread too.

HoneyMum21 Sat 01-Dec-12 13:32:52

Congratulations bella. Gorgeous name

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 13:35:24

stacey not GD just big!
Ha ha! pmg the shock on their faces if I threw dinner in the bin would be priceless!

Another baby!, this is a lucky thread.... Well done bella bear

pmgkt Sat 01-Dec-12 13:40:51

We warn her when she gets given her food and about 5 times after that so she knows its coming. It usually starts tears and grumpy faces, but if you are going to say that's what you will do, then you have to see it through. I think its only gone in the bin twice and dessert got missed once. But at 9 she should know better.

Clarella Sat 01-Dec-12 13:45:30

Wow another! Congratulations Bella! Lovely name and another girl!

So we're looking out for stabby pains then?!

Nada here but we've decided to enjoy the peaceful carpeted, warm, builder and puke free weekend and I was allowed an early asda pot xmas tree as long as it was kept minimilistic hmm and gonna whack a chicken in the oven now then make stock n soup etc tomorrow (slight ulterior motive that best laid plans bring a baby on but also a semi child free xmas wknd grin )

ISpyPlumPie Sat 01-Dec-12 13:50:52

Congratulations Bella thanks. Seems like today is a popular birthday!

Still slightly in shock but in a really good way. After the curry, we ended up leaving out the romance as I fancied a long soak in the bath instead. I wasn't in pain at this point though. I went to bed but started getting some tightenings which were getting quite painful and more frequent. By 1 am, I just couldn't sleep so decided to get up for a bit and sat on the ball watching random music channels for about half an hour. The tightenings got more intense so got DH out of bed too. We started timing them and realised they were coming every two minutes. DH said we should ring the ward, but I kept saying leave it until I'd had one more. Eventually, he insisted as I was making the same noises as when DS was born. Even after I'd called, I was still convinced I wasn't getting the mws out of bed for nothing.

The mws arrived and said they would just observe things for a bit. After a few more contractions, she examined me and I was 4/5cm with bulging membranes. I used the TENS until the pool was ready (had a complete kerfuffle with the hose but sorted it in the end). When I got in, things seemed to slow down a little bit - still having quite bad contractions but they weren't lasting that long. Just chatted to the mws in between about work and stuff, was all really relaxed. They monitored Nathaniel every 15 minutes, but it didn't seem obtrusive and they kept saying he was very happy.

Got out to use the loo and had a show. After that, I got back in the pool and the contractions started becoming more frequent and intense. I started shouting a bit and got a really strong sense of pressure down below. I grabbed onto DH and heard the mw say something about membranes. The next thing I knew there was a burning sensastion with a really strong urge to push and his head was out! I then had to make sure that I kept my bottom under the water and in the next push he came out completely. I lifted him up and he looked at me straight away. He also reached out for me.

We got out of the pool and he latched on really quickly. The placenta came out without the injection too and I didn't need any stitches. Think the total length of recorded labour was three hours twenty minutes.

DS slept through the whole thing, and came down about an hour later to meet his little brother. DM had been upstairs with him just in case, so Nathaniel got to meet grandma too.

Now we're just having a lovely chilled-out Saturday but with a wonderful new eddition.

Sorry for extremely long rambling post, but just wanted to write everything down when it is still fresh in my mind.

utopian99 Sat 01-Dec-12 13:55:05

Wow congratulations to all the new babies! (and their families..)

Just been down to farm shop for goodies and a very stiff walk, which resulted in internal abuse in protest from the crumb.

Clarella would love to see your minimalist tree! we're waiting till next weekend - dd is Dec 15th - but house rules are baubles and beads only, (absolutely NO tinsel), red, white and black. How much of a cliche can you get?? hmm

annelid Sat 01-Dec-12 13:57:09

Congratulations Bella!!

Sounds like you had a great labour & birth Ispy, well done!!

Congratulations Bella!

ISpy that's a lovely birth story smile

Yay, another bambino! Congratulations Bella, wow 9cm that's good going!

Clarella Sat 01-Dec-12 16:10:14

Fabulous story ispy!

Lol brooke!

That is strict utop, good job they don't make bahaus utility matt grey decorations! Ours is of the lazy-minimalist school - warm lights and a star if I can be arsed to make one grin!

itsMYNutella Sat 01-Dec-12 16:12:07

Oh, forgot to say before, congratulations bella! Three babies in one day! Hope you're having a lovely relaxing time together.

Mummycox Sat 01-Dec-12 16:28:02

ispy lovely birth story, thank you for sharing.

olliebob Sat 01-Dec-12 16:42:06

Congrats ~ispy weejo & bella. wot a lot of babies in one day. No news from me although not due until next sat and as both my others were 12 days overdue i am, not holding my breathe. Must admit tho i am now getting very uncormfortable and my back is in agony a lot. Hope everyone else is ok as well.

kate2boysandabump Sat 01-Dec-12 16:56:11

Congratulations Bella What a beautiful name. Are the girls going to start catching up to the boys now?

Great news Spotty Hope he continues to improve.

I know this is my third baby and I should know, but what colour should a show be? I've been losing plug all day and it varies from brown to pink tinged. I've never had one before labour before, so don't really know what to expect.

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 16:58:01

gringrin brook that did make me laugh!

MyDaydream Sat 01-Dec-12 17:14:43

Congratulations to weejo, ispy and Bella. Looks like we're going to have a very busy thread this time.
I had a huge lunch/early dinner now I'm in lots of pain. Spent a long time trying to get the car seat in the car so hoping we get a few more attempts at fitting it before I go into labour. Don't have my own car so just need to invite as many people as possible over!

Clarella Sat 01-Dec-12 17:26:32

We have only just sorted out how car seat goes in last 2 hours myday! Good job he's late eh?!

cashmere Sat 01-Dec-12 17:33:25

Congrats I Spy, Weejo and Bella.
3 in one day!

My boiler was fixed yesterday.....and has just stopped working again. Hospital bag now carefully packed just in case (prev was cobbled together). Oh well at least Take me Out is on later!!

EggsMichelle Sat 01-Dec-12 17:40:08

Congratulations Bella - good things coming in threes!

Thanks Ispy for you entry, a wonderful read, sounds like the perfect birth

I still have no idea how our car seat base fits the car, but whilst the back seat is still covered in suitcases from our time away last week, I won't be getting the car seat anywhere near the car!

2blessed Sat 01-Dec-12 18:34:42

Wow! What a day! Congratulations bella, weejo and ispy. Wonder who will be next..

I was inspired by all the curry talk yesterday and had a take-out but no activity, no braxtons, no show, no nothing!

Glad to hear felix is making progress spotty

Been out all day and now exhausted. Hairdressers first thing so won't send lo into shock when he/she arrives, then onto oxford st. I know, I know it was crazy but only went into 2 shops for specific items.

HoneyMum21 Sat 01-Dec-12 18:38:48

I'm going to kill my MIL.

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 18:45:03

Oh no, what now homey

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 18:46:09

Ha ha! Meant honey grin

utopian99 Sat 01-Dec-12 18:53:38

Oh honey, why?

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sat 01-Dec-12 18:55:15

Your autocorrect is on top form emily grin

Go on honey spill, I love a good mil rant!

Quick brain scan done and all looks clear but going to do more detailed one tomorrow. His sugar levels dropped a bit with the big milk increases so they're just going to slow it down a bit but hopefully he'll be off the glucose by tomorrow. Poor dd has an ear infection but loves the doctors set Felix bought her grin

Hoping for more baby news in the morning my bet is with....... kate although I've not had a show before (not that I've seen) that's what it sounds like to me!

HoneyMum21 Sat 01-Dec-12 19:40:08

After crying and saying we'd hurt her feelings by saying we weren't having overnight stays till we're used to Dash and we offered to pay for her to stay overnight somewhere tonight but she's a manipulating cow a difficult woman who liked to make a point so on Tuesday she said shed sort somewhere to stay. Yesterday she phoned DH to say she had a cold and might not come then phoned back ad said she would be getting the train (derby to Newcastle then to our town) and arriving at 12 and leaving at 4. This was obviously to make us feel guilty about not staying despite he fact we'd offered to sort her out somewhere to stay. Also loads of trains to Newcastle are off because of the weather. She then phoned in tears to say her train was delayed and didn't know what time she'd get in and would miss her connection. I phoned her back and said of she got a taxi from Newcastle I'd pay for it. To which she hung up the phone. She had obviously got the difficult train expecting us to say to stay over. She eventually arrived, took Dash for a cuddle (I didn't get him back for 3 hours even when he was crying to be fed), ignored the lunch we'd done and virtually ignored me. DH tried to make conversation but she was being really difficult. Despite us explaining clearly, a number of times, our feelings an our reasons behind the not having people to stay policy she said 'so if I come up before Christmas will I be allowed to stay here?' (She hasn't been invited, she just assumes we want to see here). DH explained our reasoning again and said she was welcome to come up but we still wouldn't be having people stay. She took the hump and made some little digs and commented on my weight (she is very aware I've had eating problems and that the whole pregnancy weight thing was hard for me) and claimed we hadn't told her a load of stuff that we had and complained that we put pictures of Dash on Facebook but she can't see them (if it mean that much to her surely shed just sign up to FB?) DH walked her to the station and she had some more digs. He came home fuming and pretty much ready to cut her out of our lives completely as he is still trying to make everything all about her when we have a new baby to think about which is infinitely more important. (She has always been able to manipulate DH into doing things her way and making her centre of the universe)

This doesn't actually sound that bad written down but it was awful and the stress has also effected my milk

HoneyMum21 Sat 01-Dec-12 19:40:37

Sorry, epic post. But I really needed to vent.

HoneyMum21 Sat 01-Dec-12 19:44:06

If she hasn't been trying to make a point she could have come up by car -like she normally does and would have been quicker because of trains being off because of landslides earlier in the week. She could have had thee evening and a nice meal with us, stayed at the B and B down the road and seen us tomorrow morning but instead tried to make a feel guilty anf only succeeded in pissing us off and possibly angering DH so much that she won't be seeing us for some time

ISpyPlumPie Sat 01-Dec-12 19:46:30

Spotty - good to hear Felix is continuing to make progress.

Honey - hope you're ok. Feel free to rant away.

DS seems to be taking to hos big brother role really well. He was present during a meconium poo-splosion, and it didn't put him off. He kept handing me cotton wool and seems to have got a tad obsesed about when the next poo will be! Only problem is he is still insisting on calling DS2 (feels random typing that) the name he'd picked, which is different to the one we've chosen. Although it is a nice name, there were a few reasons we felt we couldn't use it and Nathaniel does suit him more. Maybe he can just have a special nickname from his big bro .....

ellliebelle Sat 01-Dec-12 19:48:34

Not meaning to be rude but havent had chance to catch up but needed to ask some advice baby seems to have been quiet today and have felt worried but has hicups now is that classed as movement when counting?

HoneyMum21 Sat 01-Dec-12 19:49:42

Hiccups aren't counted as movement ellie. Have you tried cold drink/stair climbing etc?

ellliebelle Sat 01-Dec-12 19:57:10

Yeah honey will try again who do i call if its night and im worried sad

MyDaydream Sat 01-Dec-12 20:05:10

We wanted to know how the car seat fitted so the taxi driver wasn't waiting ages for us to sort it on coming home day. We don't know if anyone with a car will be over again before I give birth so took the chance while we had it.
honey sounds like an awful day with MIL and she wouldn't be invited back to my house without an apology and an attitude change. At least your DP is on side with her being a bitch.
ispy Ds1 sounds adorable helping you out!
ellie call the labour ward at this stage if your worried, if they're not the right people they should transfer you to someone who can help. I also find something sugary gets mine going after a still day.

MaMaPo Sat 01-Dec-12 20:09:10

Call your Labour unit at your hospital - your midwife should have given you a number.

If you don't know it, I would call the general number for the hospital and ask to be put through.

Good luck and try not to worry. Also try sugary drinks - cold water does nothing for my baby, but a hot chocolate is usually more successful.

Honey, that sounds totally shit and manipulative. She is creating a rod for her own back. Focus on your baby and your husband -
She is responsible for her own choices.

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 20:11:57

honey your mil sounds like a right old cow! talk about cut off your nose

ellliebelle Sat 01-Dec-12 20:15:27

I will call labour ward thanks ladies not sure about sugary drink with gd

MyDaydream Sat 01-Dec-12 20:21:34

Mine also goes mad for cheesy, but that could just be baby taking after mummy. Hope you get some reassurance from the labour ward.

MaMaPo Sat 01-Dec-12 20:21:41

Oops, sorry Ellie - forgot you have GD. You can also try lying over on your left side.

FriendofDorothy Sat 01-Dec-12 20:36:29

Well done for sticking to your guns Honey. She sounds nasty and manipulative and personally I would probably tell her to fuck off or deal with it!

EggsMichelle Sat 01-Dec-12 20:42:13

Honey I would expect that kind of behaviour from my personality disorder patients, and they would not get away with it. I agree with Emily, cutting off her nose to spite her face!!!

ISpy your DS sounds gorgeous, there are a lot of very odd nicknames in DHs family, but they are wonderful!

Spotty glad Felix's scan came back clear.

For the first time in weeks, I'm not angry at being pregnant, but I think that's because all my hostility is directed at my virus, which has now given me a raised temperature. How do you know if you have a chest infection?

AlisonDB Sat 01-Dec-12 20:46:23

Congratulations bella, weejo and ispy
You must all be over the moon to be snuggling your little ones!

AlisonDB Sat 01-Dec-12 20:57:42

Having a shit day,
Went to hospital at 10.00 for a CTG monitor, baby was very inactive so instead of being hooked up to the machine I was on it for over 1 hour,
Thought they might keep me in but they eventually seemed happy with his heart beat and let me come home,

Got home at lunch time, had blazing fekkin row with DH cos he got slightly drunk last night, and today he was just wanting to crash and do nothing when there is so much that I wanted to done, (38wks on Tuesday) so I took myself off out to the shops and left DH in charge of DS,
Came home to the house looking like a bomb had gone off and DH saying to me "we'll (meaning me) will tidy tomorrow!! (Not my effin mess and I've done enough today, I feel sore below and emotionally wrung out)

Now sitting/lying in bed, doing kick counter on baby,
And he's being really slow/lazy
Have only felt about 5 definite kicks in just over 1 hour,
Think there have been squirms but I'm now a paranoid wreck!
Just want him OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have made up with DH who is very apologetic and knows he was a total tit last night and today, but now he's taken himself off to the spare bed "to give me time to be still and quiet to feel baby incase we need to go to hospital again tonight - which translates in to - he's gone to have a sleep!!!!!

Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies, I tried to read all of the last thread but fell asleep. I promise to catch up properly soon.

....so I think I'm having contractions. I have felt horrific all day, went nauseous and had adrenaline rushes a couple of hours ago and my back has been hurting on and off. About two minutes ago I had quite a painful tightening across my tummy. Got the timer out.

ellie I hope everything's ok with LO. If you have to try a sugary drink it's not going to be the end of the world with regards to the gd. But I echo others labour ward is best.

Well I've had a few pains but after a bath they seem to have gone. I think in going to have to ignore all signs until it's definately happening.

emilyeggs Sat 01-Dec-12 20:59:09

Bless ds1 ispy, love the idea of a big brother name

Baby Strawberry by the morning grin

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sat 01-Dec-12 21:12:12

Ooh we may have a strawberry pip by the morning!

That's rubbish Alison maybe initiate the cleaning tomorrow n then have a funny turn which means DH has to finish it without you grin

MyDaydream Sat 01-Dec-12 21:23:14

Strawberry good luck if it is labour, how exciting.
The top of my bump has been really painful all day, it feels like I've pulled a muscle right in the centre.

ISpyPlumPie Sat 01-Dec-12 21:41:46

X-post earlier Honey - agree that she sounds totally manipulative and her behviour is the last thing you need.

Ellie - hope you're ok. Agree best to get things checked out to be on the safeside.

Alison - sorry to hear about your shit day. Fx tomorrow is better.

Sounds promising Strawberry - similar to how I started.

brooke89 Sat 01-Dec-12 22:15:04

Good luck strawberry if things are happening!

alison hope you feel better - make him do the housework tomorrow!

ellie hope everything is ok

honey its good that your dh agrees she is being unreasonable - hope she keeps her distance for a while.

Christmas tree up presents wrapped aannnnd relax!

ellliebelle Sat 01-Dec-12 22:50:47

Just back from labour ward had trace anf all is ok just have a lazy baby today i guess smile

spotty glad things with felix are looking good and scan came back clear fx for same results tomorrow

honey your ml sounds like a nightmare like you say she could have haf a lovely trip to visit if she wasnt being so UR thanks god dh agrees with you though

strawb good luck if things are getting going.

We had a lovely christmassy start to december christmas fair this morning then lights switch on this eve and going out for family christmas dinner tomorrow cant wait smile would quite like baby to arrive on monday so might try some romance tomorrow night smile and if that fails going to set off walking on mon and not stop till something happens smile

HoneyMum21 Sat 01-Dec-12 23:04:37

Glad you got checked out and all is ok ellie.

Thanks everyone - DH does generally give his mum the benefit of the doubt, even when she is being unreasonable so the fact he's admitting to being pissed off says a lot but its good to hear other people's views! We're def considering changing Christmas plans fr going to hers to the 3 of us staying put on our own. If it wasn't for DH's grandparents that's deg what we'd be doing. Still may.

utopian99 Sat 01-Dec-12 23:45:28

Exciting strawberry!

Spotty good news on Felix. smile

Honey your mil sounds like really hard work, but agree with others it sounds like your dh is onside - she's only shooting herself in the foot.

V impressed with everyone getting trees sorted; was planning to do ours next weekend which is a week before dd - is that naive? Still need to finalise presents, wrap and write cards next week too...

Arrgh, just noticed the new thread, thought things were quiet over there!! Heartburn horrendous tonight and run out of gaviscon so I literally feel like I'm dying.
Also getting weird scraping pains inside the front of my bump right at the bottom- is it the baby's head scraping on my pelvis do we think?

brooke89 Sun 02-Dec-12 03:26:24

Wide awake and early for the 4am club hmm really do miss a good nights sleep on my belly

Could be terry - I get sharp shooting pains if I walk too much or sit cross legged for too long which I'm sure is baby's head on cervix so maybe it feels different for everyone.

utopian I'm never this organised always lash minute dash for Christmas presents but I've been off work for so long I've got things done earlier this year

I'm still awake toosad
Heartburn and my rib is really giving me gyp, plus I vomited ( because of the heartburn) about half an hour after I'd taken paracetamol for the rib, so i don't think i got the best from those ones hmm
I'm waiting till I can take another set, maybe ill be able to sleep, maybe not because of the heartburn sad

brooke89 Sun 02-Dec-12 03:36:08

sad Doesn't sound good - not long now for the rest of us!

Secondsop Sun 02-Dec-12 04:14:47

Morning. We brought Zach home today which was amazing. But I think he has a malfunction that you only discover when you get the item home from the store. He WILL NOT SETTLE to sleep tonight except for on one of our chests. He also soiled a nappy, which I changed a few minutes ago because I thought that was what was stopping him sleeping, him screaming the whole while because he doesnt like being unclothed, but then he INSTANTLY soiled the clean nappy. I've not had 90 minutes' unbroken sleep since my labour that left me somewhat in shock, but my husband has just possibly done the best thing ever by sending me to sleep in another bedroom so that he'll sort out the boy and do the 5.15am feed. (I can't face trying to get zach on the breast in the night yet - there's work to be done to get him to take a proper latch at all as he had to have formula at the start to stabilise his blood sugars).

Those of you with kids - please tell me he'll settle and that this gets easier?!

MaMaPo Sun 02-Dec-12 04:19:23

Can't you just send little Zach back to the workshop to get his 'sleep' switch fixed?

Isn't that how babies work?

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sun 02-Dec-12 04:34:15

Morning 4amers, I have no advice to offer seconds PFB here too, but hopefully it'll get easier as his tummy gets bigger and he can sleep a little longer. How are your sugars now? Did they go straight back to normal?

I'm up for toast, hunger pangs were keeping me awake. confused

Secondsop Sun 02-Dec-12 04:34:19

mamapo yes that's what I need to do. He worked fine in "demonstration mode" but not once I got him home.

Secondsop Sun 02-Dec-12 04:37:16

willyule my sugars haven't snapped straight back, although they've been ok - probably generally a bit lower. i haven't had anything sweet yet though. However I was told that I'd get a letter for an appointment for another glucose test in 6 weeks time and that I was to eat a normal diet in the interim, not a GD diet, and not to test my sugars. That's not stopping me doing some testing now and again though as I have a week or so worth of strips left.

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sun 02-Dec-12 04:49:50

Yep, there's no way I wouldn't test mine in your position, smile too nosey. Hope they settle down for you soon. I had a korma tonight and earned myself my highest ever reading (10.2), have had to bin the leftovers to stop me eating them tomorrow!

Bellaboo123 Sun 02-Dec-12 05:04:01

Congrats ispy and weejo

honey your mil sounds like a right cow...so glad DP is with you on this.

Well I have a baby daughter!

Labour was eventful! I had a curry, slightly hotter than I'd usually have the night before, and then was woken at 1145 feeling a bit crampy. Thought it was the curry but wasn't easing and I kept getting up. By 230 i had an inckling they might be contractions and I woke DP who grumpily suggested I phoned hospital. They didn't seem to concerned and said possibly early stages, try to sleep (!) paracetamol, hot drink and bath. Took paracetamol but kept having to get up as v windy. Cldnt sleep. Sent DP back to sleep as he was useless! Measuring contractions but a bit all over the plan (prob with the wind in hindsight) still wasn't convinced I was in labour though. Had a little gush of water as i got off loo but thought cld be wee tmi! By 530 I was getting tearful as they were getting stronger and woke DP who put me in a bath and complained his tummy hurt from the curry too!!! angry He looked at my contraction timer history and diagnosed they were all over the place and doubted it was labour!!! Ended up calling hospital again who eventually suggested coming in to 'just be checked out!'

Arrived at hospital after wanting to punch DP ( I do love him really!) was so busy that they couldn't examine me for 40 mins when they did they said I was 9cm dilated. DP lifted his jaw up off the floor lol!

From then on it was gas and air but then they transferred me to labour delivery suite (I was MW lead unit) as LO heartbeat was dropping luckily amazing MWs said with me whole time. Turned out she was back to back! Had 1 small cut to ease delivery but other than that it was great!

DP had a funny turn during delivery as he hadnt eaten or drunk and they made him put his head between his knees lol! Then he stood eating a biscuit standing down 'that end' wile she was crowning!!! Imagine imprinted!!!

Aurelia is gorgeous all her newborn size clothes swamp her though! She has a small tongue tie which they're not overly concerned about. Latched on and we've been bf ok. Decided to stay overnight at MW led unit as they said why not! Just to build my confidence up with feeding etc.

Oh and it's surprising how quickly you forget about the birth!

Thank you all for your well wishes!

strawberry you next?

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sun 02-Dec-12 05:12:42

Aw how lovely Bella, I can't believe you got to 9cm before going in. Glad to hear you're both doing well. You'll have to send DP out for some tiny baby sizes smile

bella Aurelia is an absolutely beautiful name. And your labour sounds really positive. (and you now have ammo against your DH forever! grin)

Well I slept 11.30-1.40, then got almost straight back and just woke up. I feel so refreshed, it's the longest sleep I've had in months!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Sun 02-Dec-12 06:07:16

Congratulations, Bella and Aurelia thanks

Honey, sounds like you and dp have the measure of her. Think of it as practice for the toddler years wink

Seconds, mine did that. I think there's a testing period before the fault gradually sorts itself out. I slept 3 single hours then a bout of over 2 last night, all with R in the crib shock

Bellaboo123 Sun 02-Dec-12 07:53:50

stacey I had a good nights sleep the night before I had her...you never know!

spotty I forgot to say good luck today with Felixs second scan fx all clear. Routing for you!

Wow Bella sounds like a great, if a little shocked, birth!

Today is the day, at six days old, I get to put baby to boob! I've been told he might not do anything but he loves his dummy so fingers crossed! He was rooting a bit yesterday when I was holding him (whilst also looking very fearful of my massive boob!)

Wonder if baby strawb has arrived yet!

Thanks Bella smile he looks a bit of a dude at the moment as his hair is wonderfully styled with the gel they use with the scanner!

utopian99 Sun 02-Dec-12 08:24:12

bella that's a great birth story! (and lovely name)

spotty good luck for the scan - have brilliant mental image of Felix with hipster hairstyle!

strawb hoping for pip news soon - there have been rafts of babies on the the thread now and only one from our nct group with three overdue..

Lovely birth story bella very impressed with everyone getting to 9 cm! LOVE the name too.
Aww good luck spotty best of luck. FX Felix loves the boob. He sounds like he's really doing brilliantly.
I have a good feeling about kate and strawb <waits in anticipation for news>
Oh and forgot to say honey MiL sounds like a right cow and really hope something gets sorted or someone shoots her in the head

I thought it could be my turn last night, after a curry and some 'action' was having quite regular contractions pains and loads of annoying poo trips, but about 3ish I must have fallen asleep and now nothing. Not even a twinge. angry

bella I wish, I doubt it though. Sods law and all that. Lol.

spotty good luck with the bf, I'm sure Felix will love your huge boobs soon.

<whispers> I had 4 squares of dark (70%) chocolate last night, and it didn't screw my sugars up! It was beautiful!

HoneyMum21 Sun 02-Dec-12 09:31:59

Hope felix enjoys boob spotty

ISpyPlumPie Sun 02-Dec-12 09:37:21

Bella - that's a lovely birth story. Congrats again.

Seconds - it does get better! DS1 just wouldn't be put down at first. He then started to sleep in his carrycot (most enclosed thing we had) before moving onto his cradle. The non-putdownable bit seemed like ages at the time, but think it was only a couple of weeks max. I reckon they just take a little while to adjust to being separate from us.

Clarella Sun 02-Dec-12 10:36:16

Huge catch up...

Hope you're ok today honey and mil s behaviour doesn't cloud today for you <hugs>

Glad all is ok ellie - re walking don't do what I did and exhaust yourself, I'm still recovering from my mammoth any stairs I can find in newcastle mission on thurs! (Admittedly only a few days after gastric bug but still!!)

Lol faulty toy analogy seconds and best wishes for the next 18 years few days! Seriously, lovely to hear he's back at home smile

Fab birth story bella!

Had the most relaxing Saturday in months - no shifting furniture for various work men or unpacking / re packing boxes in diff places incase lo arrives. We bunged up tree, threw lights on, cooked a chicken, watched brave, factor and live at the apollo, then I slept reasonably ok (quite a few cramps in night but basically result of greedy pigging out) and dh didn't but it's because he's too excited to meet lo, bless! So glad it wasn't due to all the other worries over the last 9 months. So sort of felt like xmas day randomly.

Oh I did get stabby pains while making gravy.

Going to find a country house/garden to meander about smile

Come on ministrawb!

Clarella Sun 02-Dec-12 10:37:32

Hope today nicer for you too alison and he makes it up to you

FriendofDorothy Sun 02-Dec-12 11:35:54

I think my body temp thermostat is buggered. Everyone else in church are wearing jumpers and coats and I am down to jeans and a vest top!

Felix's breathing is bad again and he might have to go back on CPAP sad they also said he had a funny turn in the first 24 hours which could have been a fit, nice of them to mention it now. One step forward three steps back......

Oh spotty focus in the fact he is in the best place and they can act very quickly on what they find. So sorry it feels like a backwards step.

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sun 02-Dec-12 12:20:13

I feel awful today, like I may throw up at any moment. Is there anything I can take to settle my stomach at all?

EggsMichelle Sun 02-Dec-12 12:58:49

Oh Spotty, sending lots of positivity to you.

Willyule back to the ginger tea/biscuits and dry crackers!

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sun 02-Dec-12 13:15:05

Ginger nuts and crackers are on the GD no go list. I may have to send DP for sugar free ginger ale. Wish 2 o'clock would come already so we can get the viewers out of the way and I can just lie around moaning in peace!

Get some nice whole grain crackers willyule you can get some yummy ones they should be fine for you?

Oh and thanks for all the nice messages I'm feeling really sad but dp will be here in two and a half hours to pick me up so I can concentrate on not crying at home in peace instead

JoJoB77 Sun 02-Dec-12 13:43:57

Hugs spotty, hope Felix picks up very soon.

cashmere Sun 02-Dec-12 13:46:12

Thinking of you too Spotty. You've been so brave and positive but a good weep will prob do you good.
Love to little Felix too.

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sun 02-Dec-12 13:55:50

Definitely treat yourself to a good cry Spotty I hope felix starts to feel a little better soon sad

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Sun 02-Dec-12 14:08:44

Let yourself cry, Spotty, those hormoned need a release <3

Baby very quiet today, evenings are normally activity time so going to wait until then and if still quiet I'll phone labour ward (and end up in triage).

emilyeggs Sun 02-Dec-12 14:42:37

I always feel better after a good cry spotty we're all wishing Felix well and in sure he'll be feeling better soon. In the mean time, let it all go x

Clarella Sun 02-Dec-12 14:44:13

Thinking of you and Felix spotty

itsMYNutella Sun 02-Dec-12 14:45:20

Great birth story Bella!

I was a bit busy yesterday, like you ellie the bean was V quiet evening Fri and yesterday morning. I rang my MW and she said basically pop to the hospital and get them do to a trace. At the hospital they were all really lovely and the bean is fine. They also did a quick ultrasound; of course while there the bean perked up and kept kicking the monitors for the trace and then the Dr's ultrasound thingy smile .

The bean was then very busy all evening and today has been doing his usual yoga moves smile

spotty I think a cry is absolutely justified! I've sobbed all over DP a couple of ties while pregnant (which drives me nuts because I don't even know why I'm crying) but having him give me a cuddle and just letting me cry has been fab honestly hmm god I really am a nutter aren't I?? Well normal for pregnancy (I hope <gulp>) but it does make me feel a little like a nutter...

Had a completely irrational cry earlier, saw what I thought was a used condom in the kitchen bin (DH has never given me any reason to be suspicious, and I'm not the jealous type) cue hysterical crying before realising it was the cling film off my soup blush oops!

It's you lot who are going to make me cry with all your soppy messages wink

He is now off the glucose drip fingers crossed his sugar levels stay up!

I don't think I can take much more of this good news/bad news!

Kate and Strawb must be busy pushing/snuggling newborns I reckon!

Hope seconds has managed to get an hours kip?

Secondsop Sun 02-Dec-12 15:30:56

Oh spotty I have everything crossed for you guys - hopefully you'll get your unlimited cuddles with him soon.

bella CONGRATULATIONS!! Aurelia is one of my favourite girls names - it was definitely on my list for if I'd been having a girl.

I did indeed get to sleep from about 4.30 - 8.30, at which point my alarm went off for the next feed and I initially thought the teddy bear in the bed with me was the baby and I was wondered why my husband had out the baby into bed with me. That sleep has left me feeling so much better (although prob a large part due to adrenaline from being happy to be home). And ... My milk seems to be in, and this morning Zach took the boob without griping or holding out for the bottle, not for long but a start, and this afternoon he had almost half an hour! Not all via a perfect latch, I'm sure, but such a relief (until it hurts in a couple of days...). I'm still giving him formula top ups as I don't know how much milk he's actually getting, but I hope to be able to phase that out especially as I've now got a breast pump.

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Sun 02-Dec-12 15:55:24

Half an hour is excellent, we only do 45-60 here and that includes fussing and winding. Keep persevering smile

Spotty, it's such a roller coaster brew

MyDaydream Sun 02-Dec-12 16:05:08

spotty thinking of you and Felix, hope you start to see some improvement in him soon.

kate2boysandabump Sun 02-Dec-12 16:13:13

I'm not pushing! Feel much the same as yesterday, plug still coming away and erratic pains. I'm very emotional today and keep crying, PIL are here and though lovely, I could do without it.

spotty think

kate2boysandabump Sun 02-Dec-12 16:14:06

...ing of you and Felix.

Fat fingers!!!

brooke89 Sun 02-Dec-12 16:17:09

Still no news from strawb?

spotty hope you get lots of cuddles soon

Awful day for me sad a very close family friend has been very ill - he has a brain tumour and lung cancer so we knew time was limited. Turns out he fell down some stairs on Thursday and broke 5 ribs and punctured his lungs, nobody told me as they didnt want to upset me being close to labor, dad called me today as doubtful he's going to make it through the night sad so have been up the hospital with my family to say goodbye. Really wanted him to meet our little bean before he went and he won't get to now. Life is very cruel sometimes isn't it...

ISpyPlumPie Sun 02-Dec-12 16:37:22

So sorry Brooke sad. Thinking of you.

emilyeggs Sun 02-Dec-12 16:48:54

So sorry to hear that brooke life indeed is unfair sometimes sad

CODwidow Sun 02-Dec-12 16:51:59

Hi everyone and congrats to those you now have their babies. spotty my ds2 was in scbu for a while and I spent nearly the whole time an emotional wreck, it's a horrible helpless time.

kate I'm much the same still losing my 'plug' and having erratic pains so just hopeful that it's all doing something and when it finally happens it'll be a much shorter labour! (that's the plan anyway) but. Feel very premenstrual, very bad tempered and emotional so who knows??

I'm still in no rush to meet baby though feel very relaxed about things except that everyone else seems to have forgotten that they can talk to me about normal everyday things and instead feel the need to say things like 'oo still here then' or ' ah still hanging on' I want a sign round my neck saying I still have 10 days to go til due date!!! Rant over

Clarella Sun 02-Dec-12 17:01:18

So sorry Brooke best wishes and hugs.

It Does sound like Kate, cod and strawb are next....

41 weeks tomorrow hmm

Hormonalhell Sun 02-Dec-12 17:17:07

Hi everyone, hope u all ok.

My pram finally arrived yest and it's now up and running, really stressed me out as DP just sat n watched rugby !!angry

Thought it seemed wobbly tho so made DP take me down to mothercare to check if those were same! They weresmile it's very snazzy!!

HoneyMum21 Sun 02-Dec-12 17:18:14

So sorry brooke. Life is indeed very cruel sometimes. Hugs and hoping you're doing ok.

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sun 02-Dec-12 17:23:33

Really sorry to hear that Brooke, I'm glad you got to go and see him but its a shame he won't get to meet your DC sad

utopian99 Sun 02-Dec-12 17:28:00

Just checking in to say spotty and brooke dh and i are thinking of you..

kate2boysandabump Sun 02-Dec-12 17:53:47

brooke so sorry to hear your news.

cod I feel exactly the same as you!

MyDaydream Sun 02-Dec-12 18:20:20

brooke such sad news for you, I'm so sorry.
hormonal I do things like putting the pram up myself because having DP there stresses me out! There may have been shouting when he wouldn't listen when I told him how to put ours down!
I've been having constant periody cramps for two days now, hoping its nothing because this would be the worst week for him to make an appearance. Putting our Christmas tree up to distract me from the cramps, had to send DP out for emergency paper clips for the baubles! This is our second Christmas as a couple and the first with a tree so I'm quite excited! I've not had a tree since 2008 due to living in small houses with no spare space and its really lovely to be unwrapping baubles I've not seen in so long that are from mine and my mums first Christmas in our own house when I was little.

Every year I say I'm going to buy a new tree (old one smells funny, bitch to put together and the ex bought it) yet I put it up again every year, swear at it then cover it in far too much flammable tinsel! Just disappointed the babies will all be too young to enjoy their first Christmas.

WillYuleDoTheFandango Sun 02-Dec-12 18:33:24

Still feeling a bit funny, had a churny stomach since I got up and I've been having crampy feelings since 1ish. Baby's still high, & im only just 37w so I don't think he's on his way or anything. I hope I haven't got a bug. Might try a bath

We're going to put the cot together and decorate the nursery tomorrow! Exciting grin

MyDaydream Sun 02-Dec-12 18:54:00

egg I bought mine after Christmas last year in the awesome sale a local garden centre have knowing we'd have space for it now. Got more than 50% off!

Oh brooke how sad, thinking of you.
Glad to hear all these quiet beans are all ok.. I've been having so many less movements its so unnerving, if it happens anymore I might phone up.
Just thought I would try out Medela pump.. So far so good! Is it worth keeping what I get? (Everything was sterilised) just freeze it? How do you defrost it wen you need it? Feeling a bit funny now is this normal?
Oh kate I thought you had done it. Still though I feel it's days away, anytime now smile

AlisonDB Sun 02-Dec-12 19:14:24

Brooke, sorry to hear your news, life really is shitty and very cruel at times!!

Spotty I hope little Felix is doing better now,

Glad everyone's LO's are being more active today.

And good luck to all those thinking they may close!!

After my totally shitty day yesterday, I went to bed last night and kept waking up to see if I could feel baby.
He was moving but VERY slowly, anyway this morning DH came to me with breakfast in bed, and this afternoon let me sleep while he looked after DS, cleaned and tidied the house and came back from the shops with a bunch of flowers and a new little cuddly for baby.
He was full of apologies and can see why i was so pissed off at him,
Hate it when we row I was so emotional yesterday today i feel much calmer,
Have another appointment tomorrow to see about the low amniotic fluid and hopefully get a date to be induced, I'll be 38 wks on Tuesday so I can't see what their problem would be!

pmgkt Sun 02-Dec-12 19:34:56

is it going to be a non baby day?

My knuckles are bleeding from having to wash my hands so much sad

brooke89 Sun 02-Dec-12 19:49:10

Thank you for all your kind words - had a good old cry and a bath and feeling better- just wish bean had been earlier but wasn't meant to be!

Officially decided that pineapple is not going to make baby come any quicker - I've ate 2 today and nothing not even the shits wink

FriendofDorothy Sun 02-Dec-12 19:56:41

Spotty, make sure you moisture well. Some hospitals have antibac moisturiser next to the soap/

ellliebelle Sun 02-Dec-12 20:09:15

Thinking of you both spotty and brooke

Spotty you can get moisturising hand wash from simple. Dd has this or her knuckles bleed when she washes her hands too much.

LO moving a bit more now and getting low level back ache and tummy tightenings every half hour or so. Maybe my 2 weeks is starting today?! Lol

MyDaydream Sun 02-Dec-12 20:37:24

brooke I think I read somewhere once you'd need to eat 6 or 7 pineapples in a day for it to make a baby come.

pmgkt Sun 02-Dec-12 20:55:44

may friend drank pinapple juice and that worked, or was it going to happen anyway?

brooke89 Sun 02-Dec-12 20:57:37

6 or 7 blush?!!! No chance of that I don't even like it haha

Spotty my sister swears by L'occitane hand cream (she's a nurse so washes hand obsessively and uses lots of alcohol scrub) it's pricey but does the job.

Thought I was having contractions, but it was Shrimpy pressing down on my bladder, I am never going to be on time!

RudolphTheRedNosedGiraffe Sun 02-Dec-12 21:16:22

Congratulations Bella!
I too heard you'd have to eat a ridiculous amount of pineapples to get any effect. I think it's the same with most of these remedies, basically they only seem to work because we try them when the baby's supposed to be coming anyway.
I thought something was happening yesterday evening, every 15 minutes at one point, but it's stopped now sad.

RudolphTheRedNosedGiraffe Sun 02-Dec-12 21:18:26

DH is now doing the Christmas decorations while I bark orders at him from the sofa! smile

Secondsop Sun 02-Dec-12 21:45:33

Sorry for your sad news Brooke.

cookies I've just bought a medela pump. The hospital recommended it and I had a go on their industrial-sized one to see if I got on with it. I'm going to give it a go tonight.

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Sun 02-Dec-12 21:48:18

which medela did you get seconds?

emilyeggs Sun 02-Dec-12 22:08:27

Are we meant to be expressing milk before baby comes? confused seems a lot of you are

emily I'm expressing because of my gestational diabetes. Babies blood sugars can crash after birth and breast milk is best to help them regulate them. I wouldn't have otherwise tbh. Although now I can get 5ml pretty easily. So hopefully I'll be able to express easily when the baby's here.

Pains all stopped yawn bored of this!

FriendofDorothy Sun 02-Dec-12 23:48:19

Ew I really achy at the bottom of my bump. It's like all the ligaments are stretching. Anyone else get this?

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Sun 02-Dec-12 23:55:04

He's had both boobs and is now back on the first. 1.5 hours and counting. Where the fuck is it going?! He's far too small to fit that much milk in, surely?!

brooke89 Mon 03-Dec-12 00:04:00

Maybe I spoke too soon about the pineapple - sharp pains that ate getting worse for the past 2 hours, baby is unusually really active and diahorea (sp) hmmmm

Good luckbrooke if things are moving

Bellaboo123 Mon 03-Dec-12 01:40:31

Good luck brooke fingers crossed.

2blessed Mon 03-Dec-12 02:03:07

It might be time brooke good luck!

CODwidow Mon 03-Dec-12 02:30:10

Well dh and I decided to have a little action to see if that would help and I've now been pacing for the past 2 hrs. Pains don't seem to be regular but I'm having so much pressure down below when they do come. I'm now at the do I or don't I ring delivery? I think I may give it 20 mins and see what happens.

Although with the way things have been going they'll go off again soon!

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Mon 03-Dec-12 03:16:27

Good luck cod and brooke

CODwidow Mon 03-Dec-12 03:44:33

ellliebelle Mon 03-Dec-12 04:23:23

cod, brooke hope things are happening for you. Im here in the 4am club for the first time sad pretty sure im not in labour but been awake more thannonce an hour from 1am due to tightenings had a wee every time and managed to drop back off but not sure why ive needed so many wee's usually just one during the night hmm any way now jave an ache in bottom right of my back but think thats likely to be from all tossing and turning ive done tonight sad

Saphiesgirl Mon 03-Dec-12 04:33:40

Good luck folks! Nothing happening here, particularly not sleep- soooo tired!
Hope something happening for some.

AlisonDB Mon 03-Dec-12 05:10:47

Good luck COD & Brooke, hope things are moving for you both!
Ellie & Saphie hope you managed to get back to sleep

Bloody noisy neighbour!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just woke to what sounded like someone in my house, banging doors, walking round down stairs,
Off course I jumped out of bed to listen (DH still snoring his pipes off)
Then the adrenaline started to pump even though by this point I was almost certain it was no longer in our house,
Woke DH and told him, he reassured me that it wasn't someone in our house, (by lying in bed and listening)

He's now back asleep and I'm a paranoid adrenaline pumped wreck!!!
He's now checked downstairs!
No one there!
Bloody neighbour!!!!!

Hopefully i can switch off and sleep now!

Walnut8 Mon 03-Dec-12 05:58:49

wow things are happening ... hope its ramping up for you cod and brooke. and welcome to the new arrivals!

pidj it's amazing how much they can drink. Don't worry, they don't feed like that forever!

alison i hope the fluid level testing goes okay and you managed some more sleep.

sympathies to everyone who is getting on and off again pains, and contractions that die off overnight! I've started to ignore everything, just waiting for induction on Thursday. Only 39 weeks today anyway, so was a bit too hopeful thinking things would kick off before then I think. Can't believe it's only 3 december - so many more babies to come yet!

Argh my alarm didn't go off and I've been seven hours without expressing. It'll be ok this once won't it?? Ouch!

Good luck COD and Brooke!

Walnut8 Mon 03-Dec-12 06:25:45

I'm sure it'll be fine spotty. and yes, ouch!!! I remember when DD started dropping night feeds, I'd wake up soaking wet with weird shaped boobs grin

At least I got some sleep!

ellliebelle Mon 03-Dec-12 06:45:31

spotty im sure it will be fine hope your not in too much pain though

Cant belive im still awake this is so not like me sad still having tightenings but varying pain levels and not very close together sad i am only 37 weeks today though

WeeJo08 Mon 03-Dec-12 06:57:23

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all of the lovely messages thanks and sorry for the delay! We are now home from hospital, we got discharged last night at about 7:30.

Last week was lovely, my Mum was over and we had a great time - with no indications the labour was so imminent! Actually had a bit of drama as went to the MW for 38 week appt & although there was good news in that baby was 2/5 engaged, my blood pressure was a bit high so had to go back and forth to the doctor on Wed, Thurs & Fri...as DH says, no wonder it was high seeng as (unbeknownst to us!) labour was approaching!

On Friday I had no signs whatsoever, no tightenings, no increased BHs, in fact, I had a really busy day. Went to the beautician & got my bikini line done - all the while fretting that it wouldn't "last" until my due date on 10th Dec! Baby went mental during the waxing...probably because I was tensing what remains of my stomach muscles! After that I walked another half mile or so & then went to meet DH for his little leaving party (Fri was his last day of work) in a pub with some good friends. We were chatting when suddenly I felt (TMI alert) quite wet down below, and I thought "Oh fabulous, more discharge" but then I felt some more & decided I should go to the loo, stood up and there was quite a gush. On the way to the loo it continued to flow and by the time I got upstairs(!) to the ladies my leggings were pretty much soaked through (I did warn you about TMI!) I pretty much knew it was my waters at that stage - clear and sweetish smelling. I went back downstairs after a few minutes & pulled DH aside & said, "Um, we might want to think about going home, my waters have just gone" His wee face was a picture! He was SO excited! At this stage though, I felt perfectly fine and had no pains whatsoever so I urged him to drink the beer he'd just been bought & we stayed & chatted for another 15 minutes or so with our friends - who were all ridiculously excited grin This was at about 6:30 on Friday evening. Ironically we had planned to go for spicy food after the leaving drinks were over that evening!!

We got a taxi home, during which I started to get a few pains, but nothing more painful than period style cramps. When we got in I started to throw the last few things in my hospital bag, though I was pretty certain we'd be waiting the 24 hours & then going in to stop the risk of infection. Didn't quite turn out that way though! I started to have proper contractions at about 8 o'clock (maybe a bit before) which became quite painful. I found sitting on the loo the only thing that eased them (also, more of my waters were continuing to go). By 8:30 we had to call the hospital as he contractions were every few minutes. At this stage I was also bleeding a bit. They told me to come in straight away.

The taxi journey to the hospital was really bloody painful (speed bumps are the creation of the DEVIL). And by the time we got there I could only really walk a few paces before I had to stop with the pain. We got up to the birth centre though & the little room was lovely and relaxing. We had our own double bed, birth pool, chair for labouring in, pulley system(!) beanbag, etc. We also had Cheryl, our AMAZING midwife without whom I could not have got through it.

She examined me quite quickly and let me know I was already 4 cm which she said was great as my contractions had only started (at that point) about an hour an a half before. She ran the pool for me and I got in - the relief was immense. Unfortunately for me though, the pool slowed things down a lot so I got out at about 11 (I think). When she examined me she discovered the baby was slightly back to back, which explained why my contractions were so painful in my lower back. Up untilthis point I had been using gas & air which helped a bit but not loads - just sort of helped me relax rather than really change the pain. At 11 ish I asked for a painkilling injection (our hospital gives diamorphine) but was told I was pretty much fully dilated and it probably wasn't a good idea as baby would be along very shortly. I was very disappointed about this as I was so exhausted at this point.

Especially as our baby didn't arrive for another 3 ish hours after that! At about 2 o'clock or so we transferred up to the labour ward as baby's heart rate looked like it had dropped a bit after each contraction. I was also pushing so hard with each contraction I had given myself a rather major nosebleed & didn't seem to be getting anywhere with them, in so far as the baby was right on the verge of crowning but we couldn't get her that last little bit. We went upstairs & they got me into the bed and put me in the stirrups (which was NOT what I thought I wanted) but it made all the difference! My pushes became more effective. However, I still required an episiotomy to get the head out. When she gave that to me, I think the baby's head was out in the next push. Next contraction after that, her wee body came out too (which, does hurt a little bit, contrary to what people say I definitely noticed it!)

Our beautiful baby girl was put on my chest & started crying straight away which is the most amazing sound in the world grin My wonderful, supportive, fantastic husband cut the cord and we were a three smile We have named her Claudia.

For the after bit - I had the injection & the placenta came out very quickly (they offered me gas and air for that too, which I took and it was marvellous!) They then said that I needed to go to theatre as I had a third degree tear, so had an epidural & was fixed up, which is why we had to stay in hospital until last night. All in all from arriving at the hospital until delivery was 6 hours, although I think I would count my labour as 7 hours as that's when the contractions really got painful at home.

As I type this Claudia is snoozing in her Moses basket and has been for the past hour or so. Breastfeeding is going not too badly, well, nappies are being filled so that's a good thing! I will try and put a photo on later.

I'm really sorry for the mammoth, MAMMOTH post, but it's the first chance I've got and she is dozing beautifully just now so I thought I would take advantage!!

Congratulations to secondsop, ISpy and Bella thanks And thank you all for the lovely, lovely messages smile

Name change from queen of Siburbia! I've been off the radar due to no broadband or 3G in new house but trying very hard to keep up lurk via one bar of phone signal. Back on the wifi now.

I am overjoyed to read about all the new babies popping like peas (hmm, perhaps not that easily!!) in the last couple of threads! It's all so exciting! I loved your description weejo. As a first timer it's great to know everyone's stories, including the 'how it started' bit.

Edd tomorrow for me but despite many imagined signs, I'm no doubt not going to get this pudding out for a week or two!

clarella Yeay to the builders going & grin to minimalist tree. My DM insisted on a non Bauhaus/ architectural tree when we were young & gave us DC's free reign. My father grew to love it in the end & tree got huger & huger, 14' one year even though it looked like Santa had decorated it to punish people with eyes

Hello spoony smile

That was a wonderful read weejo, thank you! Glad you are home now and settling in well.

Hope the house move went well Queen, I used to live in a building called The Hollies, and your name is making me sentimental!

Off to mothercare today to look at the slings/wraps/carriers. DH is keen to use one, and since we have a little of the baby budget left, we thought we would treat ourselves now.

Welcome Spoony!

ISpyPlumPie Mon 03-Dec-12 08:04:40

Welcome Spoony.

Great birth story weejo - hope you have a lovely first day at home together as a family.

Well, it's my first day on my own with two DC shock. DH will be taking a week's paternity leave, but there's a really important meeting he needs to be at today. I feel surprisingly calm about it all - DS1 and I are up and dressed, Nathaniel is snoozing, everything is quite chilled...... all obviously going far too well and will be chaos by 11 but think there might be something to be said for just diving in and getting on with it (I hope!)

Lovely story WeeJo hope you're not feeling too sore today.

Welcome spoony

Ds is a week old today apparently he had a good night but I'm not getting my hopes up for anything it'll probably be bad news by the time I get down there!

Clarella Mon 03-Dec-12 08:24:01

I loved reading that weejo! It also reassuring
To rread how 'it all starts' for different people.

Welcome spoony!

Hope the house move has gone well queen - you can maybe join me in the no-man's land of the over 40's!

I've had crampy pains again last night but I'm.pretty convinced it's only ever linked to being greedy.

weejo thanks for the birth story i enjoyed reading it. You baby girl has a beautiful name smile

Welcome spoony im also due 24th but this will be dc 3 for me.

Good luck ispyim sure you will be fine. Dh and i have have already discussed that if baby comes early he may still wait till over xmas and new year to take his paternity as would be lovely to have 2 weeks together at christmas.

Well last night i had a few pains/tightenings/bh before going to sleep about midnight then had a few wake me up between falli g asleep and 4am at which point i got up as couldnt sleep anymore and was a bit more painful. Had pains every 8mins or so between 4 and 8 some were quite painful and some were just a hard bump all stopped at 8 when i was busy with dd's and having breakfast managed the school run and popped to the shop for some bits for lunch no pains but a very tender bottom of bump, waist and hips sad

Just back and relaxing watching tv with dd2 and had another couple of pains now. Would love baby to come today smile dont think its likely though

Having a wobble about whether Dash is warm enough thanks to evil MIL after starting off with cardi and hat in the house after coming out of scbu we're now just in a vest and sleepsuit in the house then blanket if in Moses basket and making use of my body heat when snuggling. But mil started piling blankets on him in the house and whrn she was cuddling him saying he looked cold. I'm paranoid about not overheating him but don't want him cold either.

Similarly when we're out and about we normally just add snowsuit and hat as worried a cardi too will be too warm (snowsuit v.warm) am I doing it all wrong? God forbid MIL is right.

Lovely birth story wejo and what a fabulous name choice.

Saturday was certainly a busy day for babies....my friend in RL also gave birth, a week early.

Welcome Spoony. I'm also due 24th with my first, but don't know the flavour.

Honey when your mil had babies they didn't have central heating or electricity so needed extra blankets!

itsMYNutella Mon 03-Dec-12 11:14:56

Honey I think it's really important to trust yourself, can understand that's hard when your apparently evil MIL undermines your confidence. MW has told me to feel baby's neck and that's a better temperature gauge than hands/feet/face... Bt probably one of the none first timers will be along in a mo to help you out with better advice! grin

Clarella Mon 03-Dec-12 11:25:18

Honey that is something I would worry about in exactly the same situation but you've definitely been doing it all fine till she came so just carry on - and what spotty said too. Will .mw or hv be back? Look at that website again to reassure yourself and also 'looking cold' is not how we measure temperature - the hv said touch is one of the easiest ways to tell including if they're poorly, plus I'm sure I read cool hands are ok. Don't let her get to you!

Well I watched 2 catchup episodes of peep show with nutella on toast and some inane desperate ny hws and now just feel like a slob! Think I'll wash that floor that s been over due to eradicate last memories of builders then actually cobble together some sort of print for xmas cards which will be nice this afternoon. Finding it a bit hard to have a really enjoyable day as missing dh and just a tad bored. (Which I know will be totally the opposite this time next week!!!!) Grass is greener eh?

Honey they say baby should have 1 more layer than you. So inside if you have t-shirt they should have vest and sleep suit/t-shirt, if you have t-shirt and jumper then baby should have vest, sleep suit and cardi. If you are out and have t-shirt and coat then baby should have best sleep suit and snowsuit. Etc.

Ignore your mil, she doesn't sound the best tbh.

Well on the subject of mil's mines being very dim and annoying DH atm. We were told to call the diabetic midwife today to discuss my levels since changing my medication last week. DH told mil yest he was going to work from home just in case they needed me to go in for any reason (still getting some high levels, with no real reasoning behind them). So he said if she fancied picking up some fresh bread we could have lunch round here. She just rang in a strop as DH hadn't phoned her to let her know what's going on hmm. Nothing is going on. I left a message and am waiting for them to call me back. She then said we could go there for lunch, which obviously we can't do as DH is still working albeit from home. Then got stroppy and told DH he must phone her the minute we know anything! Urgh, just exasperating!

And then there's my mum who calls about once a week and says 'I take it you're still pregnant then?' knowing full well I'd phone her if anything was happening grin.

SpoonyFuckersWife Mon 03-Dec-12 11:47:08

Thank you for the lovely welcome smile

honey a good rule of thumb is they are meant to have one more layer than us, so sounds like you had it fine. Feel his belly or back of neck and if warm, he's fine! Definitely worse to overheat. Love the name, is it short for anything? As I once knew a boy called Dashraht who was English/Indian

I'm full term today! Nice to see some other Christmas Eve babies!

RudolphTheRedNosedGiraffe Mon 03-Dec-12 11:50:20

Congratulations WeeJo! So good to hear all the stories of (relatively) straightforward labour, I've come across far too many stories of complications recently. Though it almost sounded like you're going to post a photo of Claudia's filled nappy!

I had more regular tightenings last night (though they didn't stop me sleeping, only woke 3 times, for once!) but again they have stopped this morning. Wondering if my body is getting ready or just having a laugh at my expense! Can't really complain though as I haven't actually reached the due date yet.

Clarella Mon 03-Dec-12 11:53:50

Congrats spoony!

Good to know about that layer thing. And you totally have it sussed honey

Mils really don't need to strop at a time like this. Note to self in 35 years.

Fucking baby centre just told me my baby is a week old angry

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Mon 03-Dec-12 11:55:11

Thanks all. smile I thought all that but silly mil totally undermines confidence.

spoony thanks smile Dash is short for Dashiell.

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Mon 03-Dec-12 11:58:21

Oh clarella. Despite the fact that bounty are sending me emails about my 5 week old, they are also sending me ones telling me I'm 39 weeks pregnant!

MyDaydream Mon 03-Dec-12 12:02:45

I can't remember last time I felt a proper movement from baby, at this time of day do I call MW or antenatal at the hospital? I've changed position and he's moved with me, but no kicks or stretches.

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Mon 03-Dec-12 12:08:00

I would phone pregnancy assessment unit-so hospital. Hope everything is ok

MyDaydream Mon 03-Dec-12 12:12:04

Scary antenatal it is then!

I hope all is ok mydaydream tadpole was really quiet yesterday until 4pm. Today we're back to normal. Fx all is ok with you.

AlisonDB Mon 03-Dec-12 12:48:58

Honey, ignore MIL (she sounds like a nightmare)
As someone already said, usually they need 1 layer more than us,
Check the back of his neck or tummy with your hand, if this feels warm then he's fine,
Hands and feet are usually cooler, so don't use them as a guide,
And if MIL criticizes you again politely tell her to Eff off you sound like you are doing an amazing job, hence why little Dash is thriving so well at home!!

ellliebelle Mon 03-Dec-12 12:49:59

Just realised i missed a whole page before my last post oops.

daydream good luck im sure baby will be having a lazy day fri and sat were very quiet for my baby so went to labour ward on sat night and everything was good baby back to normal movement yesterday smile

AlisonDB Mon 03-Dec-12 12:52:44

Off to the hospital soon slighty dreading it, hoping the Amniotic level has not dropped again and baby has been quiet all day,
(he was very active though all yesterday and over night do trying not to be too concerned)
So effin over this pregnancy now I really (will start stamping feet and hissy fitting) if they don't give me a date for induction TODAY!!!!

AlisonDB Mon 03-Dec-12 12:53:47

WeeJo, congratulations!!! What a fab story and I love the name!

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Mon 03-Dec-12 12:55:36

Good luck at the hospital Alison

Good luck Alison I hope that the fluid level is ok and they give you an induction date.

I have 11days until induction, come on baby get a shuffle on!!

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 13:12:45

Good luck at the hospital alison, hope you get a date (for induction grin)

mydaydream always best to get thing checked out, I'm sure all is fine. I had a quiet day movement wise with mini egg but gone the compleat opposite today! S/he is doing a weird juddering thing and bursts of violent movement hmm

I'm very lucky with the mil situation, my mil lives down by the coast and doesn't really bug us at all. She will ask DH his I'm doing but isn't really the maternal type. Poor honey, think I'd also tell her to eff off

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 13:23:18

Was also going to say, this may leave isn't going to agree with me.......all I've do e is pick at food and I never do that biscuitbiscuitbiscuit

emily I'm like that, boredom makes me eat. One of the worst things of having gestational diabetes (other than no chocolate) is I can't graze coz it screws with my sugar levels sad I have to plan meals and snacks which sucks.

Tmi alert, losing more plug and getting some cramping...so exactly like the last week or so then! Lol all these 'signs' are really rubbish aren't they?!

Good luck alison

I'm also lucky with mil except she's a hugger and a kisser bleurgh don't touch me!

Well it's quiet time so have an hour to kill, cauliflower and egg curry in the canteen confused

I'll write down my birth story, don't think I've done it already?!

So we all know I had the pessary Sunday morning. Nothing happened all day, dp stayed with me as we were on the ward downstairs. Started getting some mild cramps that evening so got some paracetamol so I could get some sleep. As per my updates I couldn't sleep and the cramping got worse over night. They were uncomfortable but not unbearable. I had (and still have) a stinking cold so that didn't help. Kept needing a wee. Dp fast asleep next to me. By about 3am they were fairly painful but the mw said there wasn't anything they could give me. At four I fell asleep and didn't wake up until six when the contractions suddenly got quite painful. I was standing up walking around and actually started growling breathing loudly through the contractions. Dp kept telling me to get someone but I said there was no point. I was on all fours and started crying, I think that's when dp knew I was in labour but I told him I was ok I just needed to calm down, which I did. 8am staff handed over I went for a wee and just made it back to my cubicle to throw up and wee myself a bit blush that's when the mw came along and said she would take the pessary out. She did that and examined me to find I was a good 4cm. Had to strap me to the monitor at this point to check ds. She phoned labour ward to tell them I was ready (they had closed that night they were so busy) and it was 10am before they came to get me. As soon as I saw the mw I told her I wanted an epidural and some gas and air!

We got upstairs and after being put in a room which looked like where all the spare beds were stored they moved me to a big room with a bathroom (all I was worried about!) finally got some gas and air my contractions were 7 in 10 at this point but dp said they calmed right down on the monitor. The next two hours all roll into one. I was still on the monitor, the consultant was in the room. They put a cannula in (a few times I have jumpy veins grin) I kept asking for the epidural and they kept fobbing me off. I needed to push but was too scared without the epidural. Then I had to push but was only 6cm. I was pretty angry at this point and just ignored them and did as my body was telling me to. They were worried about ds's heartbeat so dr came in and told me they needed to use the ventouse (I hadn't properly started pushing yet still a bit of cervix left) so I said ok and he gave me episiotomy. Then ds was really coming and after having an argument because I wasn't allowed on all fours I pushed for about 15 minutes and his head was out. There was then three minutes of everyone kind of looking around the room waiting for the next contraction. It eventually came and ds was born at 12:26. Placenta came out easily with injection spraying the dr with more waters. I got to hold him whilst they stitched me up and then did paperwork. He wouldn't latch at all and was quite blue so they got peads in and took him to SCBU where he will probably be forever and I had a shower.

I was amazed how easy I found it to push him out, after a previous forceps delivery, and would do it all again tomorrow preferably minus the poo blush I was most scared of the crowning but the local anaesthetic for the epi stopped that.

Anyway that's it, it's really therapeutic to write it down, sorry for the mammoth post wonder how many babies have been born in the time it's taken me to type it wink

Clarella Mon 03-Dec-12 13:52:23

Wow spotty well done you. I personally find it really good to read people's birth stories as I stare into the inevitability of it over the next 8 days and whack epidural to top of the birth plan how is Felix? I can't imagine how you must be feeling <hugs>

Clarella Mon 03-Dec-12 13:52:53

All the best alison

Clarella Mon 03-Dec-12 13:53:26

And yes honey that must be irritating!

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 13:55:48

Aww spotty he won't be in there forever, thanks for sharing your lovely story. In one way in hoping that at my growth scan on Thursday I'll be recommended for induction as I can't bear the thought of going over, but on the flip side I'm looking forward to announcing to DH in a dramatic way "I'm in labour"!

Aw spotty great story. And Felix won't be in there forever, he'll be home with you soon enough.

WeeJo08 Mon 03-Dec-12 14:13:33

Giraffe I can put a picture up of one of her dirty nappies if you reeeeeally want me to!! Hehe smile My DH has probably already taken one of those!! grin

MyDaydream Mon 03-Dec-12 14:24:47

At the hospital now, I've got here just as the lady went for her lunch so it might be a while! Everyone else is here for GTTs, they must be starving. The person sat next to me is laughing at the breast feeding video they have on in the waiting room. Apparently the word 'nipple' is hilarious! hmm
Good luck at the hospital alison, hope you get an induction date.
honey go with your instincts to his temperature, I'm sure he'll be letting you know if he's cold.

itsMYNutella Mon 03-Dec-12 14:26:08

Thanks for sharing Spotty! Like the others have said it is great reading other's birth stories, makes it all sound somehow more possible... does that make sense?

My lovely MW has just been round to give me a check up (sorry, but it's a great system here that I can choose my own personal midwife; although it's crap that she can't come to the hospital/birth <bureaucratic Germans> ) and I just found out they don't offer gas and air at the hospitals here for labour shock confused bum bugger pooholes!!! So since opiates are off my list (previous experience says they would totally knock me out) my options are errrr water or epidural hmm

itsMYNutella Mon 03-Dec-12 14:30:30

Daydream don't forget if she is there for GTT then she might be delirious from hunger wink but the word nipple is amusing... perhaps she is nervous?
Hope the lady you need is back from her lunch soon and gets you on the machine. FX for you! <hugs>

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Mon 03-Dec-12 14:39:14

nutellaif it makes you feel better gas and air did bugger all for me!

I'm loving these birth stories, thanks Spotty. I think I would be giggling at nipple if I was staved then pumped with lucozade, but since I was on my own with no video when I had my GTT I knitting like a manic freak and left a massive bruise on my arm (oops!)

Just been to mothercare with DH, we have bought the close caboo dx, only £50 and after the disappointment of eBay I'm glad I spent the extra money. DH looked very manly with his wrap and rag doll demo baby walking about the shop! Off to tesco now to buy freezer stocking foods, love making soups.

Oh I love gas & air I think they should have it at pubs! It makes my voice go deep though blush

Felix is OK. It's just his breathing he keeps needing more oxygen but they said that could be because he's having so much food (28ml/hr!!) anyway just got to do my first breastfeed, well put him on whilst he was being tube fed and after some initial protesting he actually did some sucking. Not sure if he got any milk but I think he will have because my boobs are ready to be pumped right now!

2blessed Mon 03-Dec-12 15:02:28

Agree that its lovely reading these birth stories - thank you for sharing.

saw the mw this morning and -after last appt with her and 1 with consultant both thought baby was head down- now she is unsure if baby is head down or breech! confused
So off to the hospital tomorrow for a scan. Also my bp is a little high for the first time. Trying not to worry too much so off to dust and mop!

2blessed Mon 03-Dec-12 15:04:42

Good news about felix spotty, I'm sure its frustrating but he seems to be making progress...

itsMYNutella Mon 03-Dec-12 15:18:59

Thanks Honey I'm hoping it'll be ok. MW (and my Mum) are soooo relaxed and seem somehow convinced I wont have a problem.... I wish I could believe them... I am trying smile PMA!

Spotty great to hear about Felix! I've had gas and air for gallstones before (they were bloomin painful too, and you can't wee them out like kidney stones - before anyone asks smile ) and I remember enjoying it then... Perhaps I could have DC2 in the UK??? Well I'll see how this one goes first grin

FX baby isn't breech blessed! My bean normally behaves and is lying on the left but today managed to move to the right and stayed there while MW was here; then when I sat back up (after MW giving the bump a good feel) the bean's bum seemed to be poking right out and really hurt! Think it's still on the left actually hmm

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 17:43:54

Mmmmm fizzy cola bottles smile

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 17:47:24

I will now counter act the cola bottles by eating an apple grin........my god ! I've caught myself watching neighbours!! Haven't seen that for about 15 years!

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 17:48:18

Mmmm pink lady smile

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Mon 03-Dec-12 17:55:18

I'm hooked on Home and Away and Neighbours *emily - i feel like a teenager again!

Hormonalhell Mon 03-Dec-12 18:01:05

I've been addicted to Haribo Fangtastic all the way thru this pregnancy smile

itsMYNutella Mon 03-Dec-12 18:07:27

emily I remember seeing some Neighbours last time I was in OZ (errr about three years ago now) and because it was ahead of what was on in the UK I wanted to watch but realised I hadn't watched it in the UK for many years.... Can't believe it's still going!

I've been wanting food that shall not be named... but I have a terrible sweet tooth confused

I have recently received some DVDs of british telly though (via other friends in Germany); then I realised DP has sold the DVD player <eye roll> but I can't wait to figure out how to watch them - while comfortably lounging on the sofa smile

yuletopian99 Mon 03-Dec-12 18:09:46

Ditto your mmmmm Pink Ladies emily! (that's sounds a bit weird...hmm)
I've been addicted to apples since being pregnant, with variations of tomatoes/cherries/grapes and recently pickles thrown in for good measure.

I've finally packed my hospital bag! (after much not-so-subtle hinting from DH) I will now proceed to go 14+ days overdue... Saying that have got my starting ppointment booked in today with the accupuncturist though. EDD is 15th Dec, starting appt is the 17th Dec with another to give it a kick up the fundament on the 20th if there's still no action. We shall see.

Still thinking of you and Felix, spotty, but it sounds generally positive?

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 18:18:46

Good job I'm not keen on granny smiths yule wink

MyDaydream Mon 03-Dec-12 18:28:40

Back from the hospital, I was on the monitor for two hours while waiting for a doctor to see me! I felt really sorry for her, by the time she saw me she was half an hour past home time and still getting loads of calls. They're happy baby was following the right pattern with movement, but he wasn't very strong so they've put a request in for me to have a scan later in the week to check on him, and I have to go back tomorrow for another trace if I'm still not happy with the strength of his wiggles and kicks.
Spotty great news you got to put Felix to breast today, hope his breathing gets regular soon.
Damn all you talking about sweets, I might have to go back out to the shop to buy some. Hormonal if your loving Tangfastics I recommend Natural Confectionery Company fizzy sweets too, they're what me and DP buy when we want a change from Haribos or if they're on offer and cheaper.

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 18:34:12

Now for the milk bottles grin what! It's calcium!

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 18:35:25

mydaydream good to hear LO is happy

WillYuleDoTheFandango Mon 03-Dec-12 18:44:51

Ooh I ate my own body weight in tangfastics/super sour snakes pre-GD. Good job I can't eat them any more, my teeth might fall out!

MaMaPo Mon 03-Dec-12 18:46:30

Ok ladies, I need a bit of bucking up. Back in for a checkup and now my BP is a bit raised, there's a bit of protein in urine, and I've lost a little bit of fluid. I'm on the trace now and if things are ok I can go home and be induced tomorrow evening.

I'm just a bit in shock! I understand the reason for inducing - my dr thinks I'm developing pre-eclampsia and given I'm 38+ weeks and have a 'favourable' cervix, I see the argument for not waiting for things to go wrong. But still! Just a surprise.

So - dunno what I'm asking for, really. Reassurance? A donation of Dutch courage?

emilyeggs Mon 03-Dec-12 18:52:59

mama that is a lot to take in but think of what you'll have very soon smile.

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Mon 03-Dec-12 18:54:39

Ooh mamapo just think you'll be holding your LO in your arms really soon. It is a shock - part of me thinks it would always come as a bit of a shock even if everything happened exactly as it should. Does that make sense? I think I'm trying to say this whole baby thing is unpredictable and we're lucky that when things do get difficult or go wrong we've got the care and knowledge to keep mum and baby safe.

Good luck Mamapo - it's totally natural to be anxious, even when yoy know you're doing the best thing. Would also second what others have said about the shock of it actually happening, whether it's planned or spontaneous.

Lovely news about Felix's first bf Spotty - will keep fx that his breathing starts to settle too.

Mydaydream - hope everything is ok and that there are lots more kicks and wiggles tomorrowm

Well, first day alone with both boys was fine. DS1 had more than the usual permitted cbeebies quota but sure it'll be ok as a one-off. He was getting a little bit stair crazy by the end of the day, but the weather was foul so didn't brave first pram and toddler-wrangling experience. Tomorrow however come what may we venture out!

Hi everyone. Bored of being awake. No pains just wide awake.

Had a phone call from mil last night which I tried desperately to hand to DH but she collared me . Because we were waiting on a call back from the diabetic midwife which never came. Apparantly I'm being treated appallingly hmm and need to kick up a fuss at the doctors (who would tell me it's nothing to do with them and to ring the doctors confused). Now I know her heart is in the right place and for whatever reason she's just worried about me and baby. But I am not stupid and if I was worried I wouldn't just sit and wait for a callback. The only reason for the call was to discuss my sugar levels since my meds were upped and I've only had 1 high reading since so I was ready to tell them I think all is ok. Especially as I have an obstetrician appointment on thurs anyway. But mil just kept going on and on and on and on and on and on and wound me up. It felt like she was treating me like a child tbh. and then there was DH sniggering at me as usually he has to our up with the phone calls, I felt like walloping him one

Sorry mammouth post, needed to get it out though. Very cathartic!

Bellaboo123 Tue 04-Dec-12 03:59:12

Bellaboo123 Tue 04-Dec-12 04:05:21

Tell me about it! She's fine in the day sleeping in it but night time seems to be a battle...!

Just so annoying to be told I should be kicking up a fuss when I feel there is no fuss to kick! If I was worried about baby then I would, but being told I should be worried when there's no reason is making me irrationally stabby!

she is far better than my xmil though so I should be greatful for small mercies, and this is her first grandchild so I should cut her some slack

Walnut8 Tue 04-Dec-12 04:48:05

congrats mummycox!

and thanks for everyone for sharing birth stories. I'm still shaking my head at you though spotty wanting to do it all again grin. Seriously though, I hope Felix continues to get stronger, it must be so tough.

mamapo i know its a bit of a shock re the induction - I felt that way too when they suggested it. But i agree what with everyone is saying - its a shock either way I guess! I'm sure it will go smoothly, esp given favourable cervix etc. I'm making plans for thursday evening (when mine is scheduled), and my parents are flying in for the weekend, but it still doesn't feel very real.

Feel sick today, upset tummy (too much coffee I think - had one with friends and then SIL brought one over), the usual painless tightenings. Telling myself that it all must be doing something and that hopefully means body will be almost ready and induction will go smoothly. Feel like calling up and cancelling it though.

cashmere Tue 04-Dec-12 04:51:06

Just had my show-eek!

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 04:52:07

walnut I have sicky days too, some days can't eat a thing! Prob happen tmorrow as had no sleep. My tightenings are sore now although not in agony

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 04:53:01

cashmere wow really??? U on your way now girl grin

hello 4 am club, i've never met you here before as i have a very cumbersome laptop but tonight i couldn't rest any longer.
oh hormonal and cashmerewink exciting...

woke a couple of hours ago with a racing heart, then woke an hour ago with what seemed like really bad trapped wind and pain in my lower back. since then this pain has repeated every 10/15mins feeling like i need to poo blush.
no show, no waters, (some poo), some extreme cm
is this what they call pootractions or could there be something in the offing??

brooke89 Tue 04-Dec-12 05:39:28

I am late for the 4am club today... Ooh exciting cash are you still having tightenings?

reading that back i'm thinking maybe it sounds like it's more likely to be linked to last nights very spicy chicken!
this could be very embarrassing blush

brooke89 Tue 04-Dec-12 05:40:57

X Post - I'm not sure prunella hopefully someone who's awake who has already gone through labor will be along soon smile

Walnut8 Tue 04-Dec-12 05:41:08

sounds very promising prunella!

yay sounds like a lore more babies on the way over the next few days.

Cashmere fingers crossed that's the start! Have you been having contractions? (just don't go pack your hospital bags as apparently that means you have another 2 + weeks ... not that I'm bitter or anything grin)

prunella tbh it could be, or it might not be labour lol. If they progressively get more painful and closer together it's def labour. <useful> lol

Secondsop Tue 04-Dec-12 05:48:19

Ooh cashmere good luck! When I had my show (still in the induction suite) Zachariah emerged within 40 minutes, so Godspeed!

Secondsop Tue 04-Dec-12 05:54:11

prunella I've been through labour basks proudly - my contractions started just like period pains and didn't show up on the monitor so no-one thought I was actually in labour. Toward the very end they radiated out towards my lower back and down my thighs and up a bit. Start timing them, although if you have a hunch don't be put off by midwives saying that you aren't close yet. As in my case, they don't necessarily know what is about to happen! Mine were between 1 and 5 minutes apart for hours so I didn't have the pattern of them starting spaced out and getting closer. They stayed roughly the same distance apart but got increasingly stronger and less bearable.

I have a bruised belly sad if I tell the hospital this then surely they will agree that there is no space left for Shrimpy and remove him? Got the best sleep all week, but think DH only just come to bed, and the house wreeks of garlic and slightly vomit like (its gross)

Pru are you still getting them? Could be a very exciting development.
Cashmere show is always a good sign, get yourself organised!

I packed my hospital bag at about 33wks, and clearly it has been more successfully at slowing progress than getting in a hot bath, 2days to EDD and all I have had is cramps from Shrimpy grabbing my bladder!

hormonal I do three hourly in the day and four hourly at night.

Ooo cashmere good luck I don't know when I had my show this time I certainly didn't see it before my waters went confused

Fingers crossed for others having tightenings

Just spoke to the hospital and they've run out of milk sad I can't get there until after 10 so he's going to have to have formula for the next three feeds

ISpyPlumPie Tue 04-Dec-12 06:43:11

Cashmere and Pru - sounds promising, good luck to you both.

Bella - Nathaniel has a moses basket aversion too. Have spent the night holding him. DS1 was exactly the same and it did get better. Just have to keep reminding myself that although it seems like an eternity now, it'll pass.

He's feeding lots too - milk came in last night though so am grateful, forgot how sore it can be at first when they're full.

Walnut8 Tue 04-Dec-12 07:05:00

You are doing really really well to give him the breast milk that you are giving him spotty. A little bit of formula will be okay.

bella you could try sleeping with one of the moses basket blankets so that it retains your smell? Might help lo settle if can smell you.

ispy sounds like you are doing really well! i hope i can cope as well with two.

still going, cleared out blush and thinking of hooking up the tens machine.....
ouch ouch ouch

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 07:16:40

Mine bloody stopped at 5.30 angryangryangry

Kept me awake all the night! Fed up doesn't come close.

Good luck everybody else tho - am off to sleep now hmm

Walnut8 Tue 04-Dec-12 07:21:14

angry for you hormonal

go prunella go! the earlier you use the TENS the better so I hear

Oh good luck pru! I wish I'd had a tens

2blessed Tue 04-Dec-12 07:38:10

Good luck prunellaand cashmere

Hope you get some sleep hormonal

SpoonyFuckersWife Tue 04-Dec-12 07:43:04

Bit worried about movements. No big movements last night (he's usually very active during and after dinner) but just a few slight movements. Then this morning belly was rock hard for much longer than usual. Got up and had a cold drink, felt a slight movement.

Quite reluctanct to call because everytime I has, he's started up again!

yuletopian99 Tue 04-Dec-12 07:44:14

Good luck guys! (girls), sorry about misbehaving contractions hormonal..

MaMaPo Tue 04-Dec-12 07:55:54

Spooky, maybe calling someone is a good way of getting baby moving! Worth a try.

Thankfully got some sleep despite 2 hourly BP checks, and now it seems induction can be delayed until either late tonight or tomorrow morning.

How embarrassing is this? I'm hooked up on the trace:
Midwife - have you been gettin any tightenings?
Me - no
Midwife - hmm. Look. (Points out noticeable peaks and troughs on printout)
Me - blush I'm not very good at this, sorry.

Good luck to everyone who might be in the early stages!

emilyeggs Tue 04-Dec-12 08:19:23

Oo looks like more Christmas puds on the way, good luck ladies!

Well I was woken what felt like evey hour with severe pain again last night. Felt like period pain but so bad I couldn't move. I knew not to get excited as it happened before and I know it means nothing. This is the same pain a I asked the MW about and she responded with "what do you think that it?". Got myself convinced at one point it was the placenta coming away sad

Clarella Tue 04-Dec-12 08:20:12

Woohoo congratulations mummycox!!

All the very best mamapo lol to the peaks n troughs!

Great news about bf spotty!

Ooo for cashmere and hormonal! All the best!

Prune - it really sounds more like it now!
I am mighty sick of my body fooling me into thinking I'm contracting when it's just digestive issues. But I've always had far more pain from that than anything gyne (never had period pain really but trapped wind can floor me)

Had a very crazy day of bhs which were so frequent and strong (no pain tho) that I wondered if I should time them but couldn't be arsed! I'd just finally got on with adapting a bf tunic. My tummy looked mad, could almost see outline of lo! Also he was really really active all day - I've had to sporadically concentrate on movement for the last couple of weeks. Few more bh in night but all calm now. Mind you, after reading your post mamapo maybe I am??!!

My 41+1 week sweep later this morn but I don't think the last was any good due to mw holding back after tummy bug. Fx my cervix has migrated a bit!!!

disclaimer: sods law states that you lot will have all popped out another 10 babies before my induction next Monday

MyDaydream Tue 04-Dec-12 08:26:12

pru fingers crossed for you, good luck if its time.
spoony they're always happy to see you if your worried, I was in yesterday and they took the fact my movements are much weaker and less frequent seriously and told me to go back if I was still worried.
mama glad you got some sleep and good luck for induction.
clarella fingers crossed the sweep does something today and there'll be a baby for you soon.
I slept really heavily but have woken up feeling like I've not slept at all. Going to sort out all my Christmas post today and pack my hospital bag so I know there's nothing desperately needing doing between now and Christmas. Was going to go to Boots and do all DPs Christmas shopping so he doesn't suggest it it at the weekend, but he wouldn't give me a budget, just said "a reasonable amount". I don't know how much that is!
DP also wants me to go back up to the hospital today since I felt so crap last night, but I feel fine now and while baby hasn't upped his movements and they're still quite weak I feel reassured for now that he's okay in there after yesterday. I'm also seeing my midwife tomorrow and there'll be a scan at some point this week too. I don't really want to spend another afternoon with a numb bum hooked up to a machine having a bell rung at me just to make DP happy when my real plan for the day involved McDonald's cheese bites.

Clarella Tue 04-Dec-12 08:37:09

Oh missed your post hormonal grr at naughty disappearing contractions

Oh I meant to say honey it's a well known fact that during pregnancy your pre pregnancy jeans shrink a little wink

cashmere Tue 04-Dec-12 09:04:57

He's here 6.42- Finlay. Will update later! grin

Spoke to the diabetic midwife this morning and although I've only had 2 High readings since upping the metformin she's not too happy. She's put in for me to see the diabetic doctor on thurs too and said that they probably won't start me on insulin at 38+4 (on thurs) but may want to bring the induction forward. Considering the induction is booked for next fri anyway there isn't much more 'forward' they can bring it. Lol. So we're going to make sure We pack the hospital bag in case they keep me in.

If I could go into labour naturally before then that would be great.

Congratulations cashmere!!!

stacey sorry you're having mil issues. Does sound like you might meet LO soon though smile

clarella good luck with sweep

Sorry for all of those having naughty contractions

ItsMyLastOne Tue 04-Dec-12 10:12:59

Just wanted to mark a spot here. I came on the first thread aaaaages ago, but it all moved too quick for me!

I'm 40+1 with DC2, another girl. DD came on her due date after starting contractions at 39+4. No signs with this one yet though.

I was feeling seriously fed up waiting, but have suddenly become very relaxed about it all. confused Maybe a trip to the German market and a mulled wine hot chocolate will help get the baby out! wink

Congratulations to everyone who's given birth, and good luck to anyone in the middle of it all. smile

MaMaPo Tue 04-Dec-12 10:13:07

Wow, that was quick Cashmere - congrats!

Right - I'm off to walk circles in the hospital garden to see if I get into natural labour and beat the induction. Best rug up...

Walnut8 Tue 04-Dec-12 10:15:16

wow congrats cashmere that did seem quick! can't wait to hear your update!

Walnut8 Tue 04-Dec-12 10:23:18

good luck mamapo. make sure you get plenty of rest too.

Hi again itsmy!

Yes don't overdo it mama, but if you find the solution let me know!

Dh gleefully excited about my sweep .... it was almost a bit too gleefully considering I'm actually not sure the last was anything and I'm beginning to wince in anticipation. Waiting in waiting room. Waiting waiting waiting!

Fx it works this time clarella

ISpyPlumPie Tue 04-Dec-12 10:59:57

Spotty you are doing so well.

Good luck Mamapo

If one more person tells me I am not big enough to have this baby yet I will cry.
Going for another sweep later today really hoping it works this time.

MyDaydream Tue 04-Dec-12 12:23:01

Congratulations cashmere!
spotty great news about Felix, good luck with mission normalise.
Hope the sweep works today cherry.
Got my scan booked for Friday. She said I need a full bladder, but people who've had later scans has it been as important? Obviously ill try my best, but baby pushes on my bladder all day and even a tiny glass of water results in me needing the bathroom pretty much straight away so not sure it'll work. I had such a crap time at my 20 week scan because my bladder wasn't sufficiently full I really don't want a repeat of that.

Clarella Tue 04-Dec-12 12:47:21

Well done spotty and Felix!!

Baby 1/5 engaged (I now know he's been like that since last thurs!) But cervix still posterior - she actually had to shift his head to reach it! Bit more ouchy and yelpy but tbh I think a smear can be worse. She won't do another one though sad still, there's time between now and Monday for something to happen. I suppose the good news is that he really is in a super position for labour and hasn't budged for weeks.

Myday I would have thought you don't need to worry about the bladder now - can't imagine why you'd need it full plus I don't think many women at your stage will manage that!! I had one at 30 wks and a quick portable one at 36 .no mention of bladder but is yours for something specific?

Good lunch cherry!

MyDaydream Tue 04-Dec-12 12:53:36

It's a growth scan, he's dropped a little bit growth wise on the chart, and since I was saying his movements have gotten weaker the doctor thought it best to scan just in case. She just casually mentioned the full bladder at the end of the call so not sure if its just habit.

daydream I had an empty bladder for my growth scan at 36 ish weeks and it was fine.

kate2boysandabump Tue 04-Dec-12 12:59:50

Congratulations MummyCox and Cashmere Looking forward to reading about their arrivals soon.

Clarella Maybe this will be the sweep that works for you smile

Daydream I wouldn't bother to try and fill your bladder. I had one at 39 weeks and there was no need.

Mamapo Good luck smile

Honey Wow! Is your dh's friend Prince William? grin

Still no labour here. I didn't post yesterday as I cried on and off all day blush I still keep getting random tightenings and pains, but then nothing. I went to bed last night and was woken up to have to diarrhea (sorry TMI) and then baby decided it was party time, so I was awake the rest of the night.

This morning i dropped off the boys and came straight back to bed and I have managed some sleep and now feel a bit better.

I'm just tired of all the 'signs' that never go anywhere!!!

kate2boysandabump Tue 04-Dec-12 13:01:21

Also... blush

cherry good luck with your sweep too.

Spotty That is great news, I hope you're all home together soon smile

MyDaydream I had four scans after my 20 week one and never had a full bladder for any of them.

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 13:20:42

kate I know how u feel about the symptoms and then nothing. I just don't know what my body is playing at this pregnancy angry

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 13:22:38

mydaydream I too have had growth scans and have never bothered filling my bladder - too bloody painful now grin

Self pity here, DH didn't get the job, feedback was he gave a brilliant interview with no faults but because other people had post qualification experience and the accountants cut the number of jobs from 11 to 5, he missed out (he was number 6 on the list!). Although we have contingency money to top us up for the next couple of months, if he doesn't have a perminant full time job soon I will have to cut my mat leave sad

Stacks Tue 04-Dec-12 13:26:27

Do you think symptoms are better or worse than nothing? I've not even had any BH so far (39+2) still quite relaxed about things, but a little jealous if the symptoms you've all been getting. Surely it means you're closer to meeting LO than me?

Totally not jealous of the lack of sleep though. I'm still managing to sleep most of the night, and am still tired.

Really hope we get more babies soon, and more people relieved of the wait and uncertainty.

Stacks Tue 04-Dec-12 13:27:53

Oh Egg hope your DH finds something soon. Does he have anymore interviews or options lined up?

FriendofDorothy Tue 04-Dec-12 13:44:16

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 13:46:52

cashmere congratulations on safe arrival of Finlay. I am soooo envy

stacey fingers and toes crossed it happens naturally for you

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 13:49:30

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 14:01:40

eggnog sorry for u and DP what a blow when the excitement of a baby is close.

Sorry for all my little posts, I can't keep up with this thread half the time

Fod nappies, wipes (or cotton wool & water), muslin(s), spare outfit if out all day, then anything for you! It gets much more as they get bigger I need a suitcase for two year old dd grin

WillYuleDoTheFandango Tue 04-Dec-12 14:13:29

Hello All!

Congratualtions Cashmere!

Daydream I have to give urine samples before my growth scans so you don't usually need a full bladder. In fact during one I was sent to empty it as it was getting in the way.

Mama get jogging never mind walking, evict that baby now!

Welcome back Itsmy

Eggnog could your DH maybe give them a ring and let them know he'd like to be considered if anything comes up, someone who was offered a job may turn it down or not make it past the trial period. It couldn't hurt.

Having to look at private sector jobs now, or working for an agency. The job search starts again tomorrow, must stay optimistic!

Stacks my symptoms have been equally pathetic, and with EDD in 2days, I think I'll be with clarella in the long over due club!

Oh eggs that's Truely rubbish, I hope things start looking up soon.

My kids are going out to tea at a friends after school. I'm bored already lol. Just cleaned the windows in the living room. I need to do the kitchen ones too but have run out of kitchen roll and DH keeps it on top of the units and I can't jump to get it anymore! Lol might go have a bath and make sure I'm shaved and ready just in case baby comes (which obviously it won't because I want it to!)

Willyule if anyone does turn down their job offer, he will be automatically offered, and normally if a job appears in the next month they will automatically send him a re interview date, but since the NHS is dire financial chaos, they will probably just go short staffed for a few more months.

acjfluff Tue 04-Dec-12 14:28:42

Hi all, I'm another who was here at the start but couldn't keep up!

39+2 today and my waters broke this morning. Monitored in hospital and sent home. If I don't go into labour on my own then I'm booked for induction tomorrow at 7am. Woohoo I'm going to have a baby!

Congratulations cashmere and all the others who've had babies.

Good luck those with symptoms, I hope everything goes smoothly.

Secondsop Tue 04-Dec-12 14:47:28

Congratulations cashmere!

stacey - hope all goes well for the next few days for you. You've been successfully expressing colostrum haven't you? If your baby's sugars are a bit low at birth, stick to your guns about using your colostrum.

Hormonalhell Tue 04-Dec-12 14:52:27

ACJ how exciting soooo jealous!!

Good luck and tell us how it goes looooooove birth stories smile

Thanks seconds yeah I've been able to get about 5ml a day easily now. So I'm stock piling in the freezer. Hopefully they won't have a problem with me using that for baby if s/he won't feed straight away.

gilsbubbles Tue 04-Dec-12 15:02:56

Congratulations to all the new arrivals.,im having to limit how often I'm catching up with everyones news cause I was getting all jealous and over emotional as my fire date was getting closer.
No symptoms here either, due date was yesterday so little one is officially late. Strangely the waiting is seeming a bit easier now that the date had passed and I'm not anxious about a specific deadline.

Good luck acj!

We've moved into the not so poorly baby room! And my boob is empty after a breastfeed!

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Tue 04-Dec-12 15:22:12

Woohoo spotty that's amazing news grin. Any idea when you'll be taking him home?

Good luck acj

WeeJo08 Tue 04-Dec-12 15:35:01

Congratulations Mummycox & cashmere!! thanks

Stacks I didn't have any symptoms either (not just no symptoms on the day, none that week/previous weeks either!) and then on Friday night my waters went! I know that probably doesn't help, but just trying to say that sometimes your body (or the baby) can just decide it's ready and go!

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Tue 04-Dec-12 15:45:24

Yay. Just took Dash to be weighed- 6lb 14 - 2lb up on birth weight smile

brooke89 Tue 04-Dec-12 16:04:10

Great news honey and spotty

Hope things get going for the rest of us soon - So fed up and how annoying is it everyone asking if you've popped yet?!

Yay spotty and honey so glad the boys are so well!

That's great honey

Well the nurse I saw today said she's in on Saturday and doesn't expect to see me but I'm not getting my hopes up! I'm going back tomorrow and am able to stay until Sunday so I'm going to try my hardest to get bf established in that time not sure ill be able to? He doesn't open his mouth very wide and cries to start with confused

Clarella Tue 04-Dec-12 16:30:49

Hormonal and Kate I'm with you on the taunting signs being so annoying. After the crazy bhs yesterday barely anything today. Don't think sweep any good either! A Benjamin button pregnancy. I'm even smaller on the measure chart!

Stacks a friend never had a single bh till actually in labour just after due date.

Gils I think it gets easier a few days post edd - I'm seeing it as extra time to do nice things, also as you should get an induction date at 42 wks I'm basically aiming for that date and anything sooner is a bonus. I'm 8 days over and had quite a nice day in the end with all the now non pregnant sleep deprived nct girls.

Great news honey!

ellliebelle Tue 04-Dec-12 16:51:11

congratulations cashmere and another lovely name smile we still don't have a boys name picked out

RudolphTheRedNosedGiraffe Tue 04-Dec-12 17:10:00

Congratulations mummycox and cashmere! thanks thanks

Spotty, I hope the nurse is right and you're able to go home by Saturday. Keep going with the feeding, I'm sure he'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

My mum also said she didn't have any 'signs' until labour started properly so I'm encouraged! I've linked the miniscule tightening episodes I've had to activity so I'm trying to spend less time on the sofa and get out for more walks or do housework etc. I've been sleeping a bit better these past few nights so I've got more energy for that kind of thing. I'll let you know if it works!

MyDaydream Tue 04-Dec-12 17:24:14

eggs sorry to hear about your DPs job, fingers crossed something comes up soon.
acj good luck for tomorrow (or today if things have started)
spotty great to hear about Felix, hope he keeps making good progress. I'm sure he'll get the hang of breast feeding soon.
Thanks for all the input on my bladder, hopefully empty will satisfy them. I've been into town today for the in laws Christmas gifts and have had more movement than over the last few days too.

brooke89 Tue 04-Dec-12 18:05:07

WeeJo08 Tue 04-Dec-12 18:33:52

Spotty That sounds really encouraging about Felix - fingers crossed you get home soon.

Honey That is brilliant about Dash's weight!

We spent yesterday at the hospital as they discharged us on Sunday and told us to come back to see the paediatrician instead of waiting. It was a pretty stressful day - for a start they told us to come at 11am and we weren't seen until almost 4:30pm. My husband is the calmest person in the world and he was fuming. They managed to lose my maternity notes and therefore wouldn't/couldn't see Claudia without them. It was also pretty hard to sit all day!! When the paediatrician did finally see us, he said that her weight had dropped on the "towards not okay side of okay" (if that makes sense) - apparently it's normal for newborns to lose up to 10% of their birth weight & she has lost 9.5%, so think she is about 6lbs 6oz now. He was very nice about it - even though I was quite upset - and gave us a plan of either doing a combination of breast & bottle feeding until my milk comes in properly, or said she could be admitted and fed through a nasal tube for a while. I chose the combination.

We've had a much better day today though, have been doing the bottle feeds & my milk has started to come in which is brilliant. She isn't a great fan of latching on - and I don't think I am the best positioner - but we are getting there! I think Spotty said about Felix not opening his mouth very wide...Claudia is the same, so trying to get her in the right place is tricky. The midwife came today though and was so reassuring - although the paediatrician was nice yesterday, I came away feeling very scared and upset, not to mention guilty and a terrible Mummy, but today is a new day and I am trying to follow my own advice of not beating myself up if everything doesn't go according to plan and the midwife really helped with that. She also didn't weigh her today, (which the paediatrician had implied had to be done) as she said there was no point as she needs time to get the hang of things and get her weight up, so she'll be weighed on Thursday.

I am REALLY sorry about the mammoth post, ladies. Someone (Stacey I think?) said it was very cathartic to write it all out...you're so right! But I do apologise...especially if you're waiting on baba to show up - you don't want me blabbering on about this!

itsMYNutella Tue 04-Dec-12 18:54:47

Congratulations mummycox and cashmere! Wow it's been busy in here today!
Clarella when I wrote up the due date on our calendar I wrote "baby?" and then a week later the same smile I'm convinced my baby wont arrive this year smile
Spotty it sounds like Felix is doing really well, hoping that he keeps improving and you can go home together ASAP!

Good luck to all those with twinges and tightenings! And acj ooohhhh fingers crossed your LO arrives in time to avoid the induction grin

itsMYNutella Tue 04-Dec-12 19:02:01

Awww weejo I think Dr's often forget to be very reassuring in the process of giving facts and it isn't helpful (especially just after giving birth)!
My GYN has worried me a couple of times during the pregnancy and I've done my best not to worry too much think about it and find my MW is just lovely and reassuring and that makes all the difference. X

cherrypiew3 Tue 04-Dec-12 19:05:25

Acj Good luck either way today or tomorrow you will soon be having baby cuddles.

Spotty Good news hope you get to take Felix home soon.

Eggs Sorry to hear about your dp's job hope something comes along soon.

Clarella How are you feeling after the sweep?

Well mw did not do sweep sad sending me to the hospital again with the growth issue really fed up now and just want this baby out.

weejo we won't complain about you moaning. Pretty soon we'll all have our own lo's to hold and we'll forget all about our envy. Newborns are hard work. You're doing amazingly well! I was fuming when I was told to be at hospital for 8.45 and didn't get out until gone 1pm without a growth scan, and I didn't have a newborn with me to deal with!

Minted lamb and roasties tonight mmmmm.

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Tue 04-Dec-12 19:29:26

WeeJo, the lovely mw's and hv's have told me explicitly not to get R weighed too often as ebf babies don't have weight issues like ff babies - they self regulate. The best thing you can do is get to your nearest bosom pals/breast friends/whatever they call your local group - mine's at the children's centre. Just getting out and being supported by other people who are going/have been through exactly the same thing is invaluable.

Breast feeding is bloody hard work shock

ISpyDingDongMerrilyOnHigh Tue 04-Dec-12 19:44:21

Honey - brilliant news about Dash's weight.

Emily - sorry about your DH's job. Really hope something else comes along soon.

Weejo - sounds like a stressful time. Would definitely agree with finding a local bf support group. Think that the hvs/mws who go tend to take a more of a specialist interest in feeding than some of their colleagues and also peer support from other bf mums really helps.

We had our first afternoon out as a family of four - just to local play cafe and then to PILs, but it was really nice to get out and about for a bit. Also found I am way more confident about bf in public this time - always used to find somewhere hidden away with DS1, but today just got on with it at the table. Think it's partly because we were somewhere particulaly family-centred but also realisation that when I'm out on my own with them both it's not always going to be practical to cart DS1 off to the nearest toilet/broom cupboard/whatever if he's in the middle of eating or playing.

WeeJo08 Tue 04-Dec-12 20:13:07

You ladies are so lovely, thank you. Having a little cry now! I think I will ask the MW on Thursday to help me with the session & then try a BF group/counsellor. It's just hard especially when she screams but won't latch on and I can see all the shiny, new, milk, good-for-her milk leaking away! It feels so cruel when she gets so upset sad I'm not sure if she doesn't like the position maybe.

Thank you again flowers

Brooke Did you have the ice cream? Any more movement? Definitely call if you're unsure - you know BabyBrooke's movements better than anyone.

WeeJo Felix cries to start with too and I feel like I'm being really mean pushing his face against my boob! All these 'natural' things are such hard bloody work!

CODwidow Tue 04-Dec-12 20:24:13

weejo please don't worry about the breastfeeding, I've always found it really tricky to get the hang of with each baby. It just honestly takes time, I've not met one person yet that has no problem. I'm sure your doing a brill job smile

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Tue 04-Dec-12 20:46:50

R cries and won't latch if he's a) windy b) wet c) the let down is a bit fast. So i stop and burp him and if that doesn't work i change him. Sometimes it takes a few tries at the burping, but he goes on fine once he's comfortable smile

DyeInTheEar Tue 04-Dec-12 20:47:16

I've needed to see a BF Counsellor for both my babies - that was the biggest shock for me - that something that was meant to be natural for both mother and baby was a total mystery to us both (and both times!). It really helped having someone come round and position the baby for me.

brooke89 Tue 04-Dec-12 21:01:59

weejo I haven't called... I have felt him\her move but movements just seem to be less - when I posted on Sunday night saying that bean was being unusually active I think that he/she might have turned as the movement I did feel was on my right side when before it was on my left. I think I'm just a bit stressed out at the moment, my friend passed away that night after I posted so have been running around trying to sort out funeral plans ect sad maybe bean is feeling a bit down too.

I'm sure the breast feeding will get better - it's early days yet for you

Barbeasty Tue 04-Dec-12 21:35:22

Congratulations on the latest babies.

Brooke really sorry to hear it. I think sometimes the baby will respond to your stress too, I know I had no movement for hours after my car accident and all was ok. Also I expect if you're that busy it's really easy to miss small movements.

Weejo one thing that helped when DD wasn't opening her mouth wide enough was to think of your breast as a burger. If you have a burger in a posh pub it's usually really tall and there's no way you'd get the whole thing in your mouth. With the burger you squeeze it down to match more closely the size/ shape if your mouth. Try the same thing with your breast as you latch on, making it easier to get more in the mouth.
It really helped me.

eggs fingers crossed someone turns the job down or something else comes up. At least he knows he interviews well for the job he wants.

emilyeggs Tue 04-Dec-12 21:53:34

So sorry to hear about your friend brooke my thoughts are with you

brooke89 Tue 04-Dec-12 21:59:48

Thank you emily and barbeatsy it was for the best just couldn't have come at a worse time - damn hormones! Going to have a few chilled days now under DPs orders so will keep an eye on movement smile

WeeJo08 Tue 04-Dec-12 22:03:46

Oh brooke you poor thing sad So sorry to hear about your friend. It probably is stress related then.

Thank you for for all your tips, they really make sense. Pidj Is letdown how fast the milk comes through?

Walnut8 Tue 04-Dec-12 23:58:43

brooke thats terrible. I hope you can have a few chilled out days now like you said and that bean moves a bit more.

weejo bf is really hard! Sorry Ive lost track but were you the one whose baby had a slight tongue tie?

So, not sure whether to be concerned or ignore. Had a crampy night and had very slightly brown coloured discharge with maybe the tiniest spot of blood this morning. Is this just more show or should I get checked? baby seems to be moving ok.

walnut I would get fresh blood checked even a small amount.

My heating and hot water have stopped working and dd has kept us up with her cough. Bad night sad

Secondsop Wed 05-Dec-12 03:41:58

Hello all. I'm back in hospital as my blood pressure has soared. Looks like the dropped down level of medication that I was advised to take after birth was too low. They've whacked on a load more medication and it's now stable.

The baby is with me. I'm using the fact im back in to my advantage and getting some breastfeeding help. The midwife who helped me was great but she too was at an utter loss when Zach spent hours being hungry but not suckling despite the fact that the nipple was right there for him. He simply didn't want to - he wanted the bottle teat as that gives him a fast hit of milk. It took me from 11.30pm to 1-50am to settle him to sleep with enough food without resorting to the bottle. Now that I've done that, it'll be interesting to see what happens at the next feed - whether he'll give the boob a decent go or whether he will resist.

Walnut8 Wed 05-Dec-12 03:47:49

Well I called the midwife and she said that it was likely just more show and if I was worried at all to come in any time ... and hopefully that meant things were kicking off hmm. I've had nothing more so will just wait and see I guess and keep monitoring to make sure baby moving okay.

spotty how are you coping without heating and hot water?! I hope it can be fixed soon.

FX he soon realises that he's getting boob and thats it Seconds smile Sorry to hear about your blood pressure though, that's rubbish. How much longer do they want you in?

Oh spotty I hope dd is better soon.. And I sympathise about the boiler, I have the most unreliable boiler ever! Pita!

seconds sorry to hear you're back I'm, it's great you're getting bf support though. Is it your blood pressure medication that they got wrong? What happened to your metformin etc once LO was born?

I've been awake since 2am. Thoroughly bored of insomnia! Got my bikini wax booked in for this morning. I'm dreading it (only ever shaved before) but looking forward to it being more <ahem> manageable after birth.

Walnut8 Wed 05-Dec-12 04:03:45

I had mine done at 34 weeks Stacey and it was fine - the beautician said that she gets loads and loads of pregnant women in. Was intending to get mine redone last week but now I just can't be arsed! blush Guess I should give it a trim before tomorrow then.

walnut I feel really blush as it hasn't been touched since I was about 4 months. I'm glad I'm getting it sorted before the birth though.

That's rubbish Seconds, but the positive is bf support! Sorry for your lose Brooke, I hope you are able to take some time to relax for now.

Awake from a combination of jaw ache, snotty nose and the a*hole neighbours shouting and slamming doors, next house we buy will be detached!

I had DH manage the unruly garden, since I couldn't see it, goodness knows what he has done to it, probably shaved his initials in!

Walnut8 Wed 05-Dec-12 05:24:57

I was actually too scared to get it done but then gave myself a kick in the pants to get done at 34 weeks. And then only had a very basic one done and trimmed the rest. I don't actually think its grown much since then (5 weeks ago now) ...but then I can't really see much in that direction!! It's funny though, the closer I get, the less I care (too worried about everything else). Do you have an induction booked stacey?

Walnut8 Wed 05-Dec-12 05:25:50

eggnog grin

Sorry you're back in seconds but sounds like you're making the best of an annoying situation.

Yeah it's a nightmare especially as dd has her casts changed today so it's the only morning she can have a bath sad

2blessed Wed 05-Dec-12 06:39:22

Sorry to hear about heating and hot water spotty. I had this last month, complete nightmare.

As already said seconds good place to get bf support but hope you can go home soon.

I've not looked at my lady garden since my last attempt to hack away the wild vegetation. Would really like a hollywood but not sure I can stand it...

Well scan was absolutely fine yesterday, lo is head down and happy. Estimated weight is 7lbs and everything else is normal. My bp is still high though...
Pram arrives today - yay! But bed broke a couple of days ago so have to shop for a.new one.

walnut I have an induction booked for next fri, but they are going to decide wether to bring that forward at my obstetricians appointment tomo morning. So it could be before then! confused

Walnut8 Wed 05-Dec-12 06:51:13

can you get the kettle out spotty? when we moved in to our new place a few months ago we had no hot water for the weekend, so resorted to boiling the kettle for DD's bath!

that all sounds positive 2blessed

wonder how mamapo is doing? was she induced in the end?

anyone have any induction tips? Can't remember last time all that well, except that i went through about 25 crappy magazines and my body weight in juice boxes. I just can't seem to get myself motivated to check everything that I packed 2 weeks ago in a flying hurry ...

Walnut8 Wed 05-Dec-12 06:53:49

fingers crossed stacey - not long now either way!

MaMaPo Wed 05-Dec-12 07:06:25

Hello walnut - speak of the devil, here I am. Another night in hospital with stupid variable BP and being induced in about an hour. Holy shit. Am a bit anxious but also very excited. And very hungry! I hope I get to have breakfast first.

Any last minute advice? I'll take my book, talk to my husband... not sure if I can hook up my phone to listen to some music. Luckily the TENS I ordered on Sunday arrived yesterday, so I can try to use that. I was also planning a trip to sort out the lady garden and have a pedicure, but having had a single day of maternity leave that wasn't spent in hospital has put paid to that. Gave myself a crappy pedicure last night so at least I look somewhat more presentable. Also cut my fingernails as they were super long and I could see myself cutting my husband as I hang on for dear life!

So - see you next time with some news! shock smile

emilyeggs Wed 05-Dec-12 07:13:52

That did make me chuckle eggnog grin

Wow good luck mamapo grin not long now!

walnut what method of induction do they use where you are? Have got the kettle out!

Over a cm of snow in the last hour sad just drove DH to work and shat myself the whole way there and back. I may have been willing this baby to come before but right now it can blooming well stay put!

Clarella Wed 05-Dec-12 08:25:35

Morning everyone, my now overcooked baby brain is seriously becoming noticeably addled now so sorry if I've missed any news or am still on a previous page! sorry you're back in seconds but good you can get some bf advice.

Shame about the sweep cherry. sorry I forget, are they measuring tummy size or have you had other scans? I was 37cm at 38 wks and then been 38 cm ever since! (Now 41+2) think he's been burrowing into my pelvis.

Oh that's rubbish spotty hope it's sorted soon. Kettles and pans of hot water plus hot water bottles all round!

All the best mama!
That's good news 2blessed

How's lo Brooke? so sorry to hear your sad news. It could be a combination of you being low and also distracted plus my lo's movements changed significantly over the last few weeks especially as he dropped. Monday's crazy antics were out of the ordinary!

How are you today eggs? Hoping something comes along soon thanks

Bugger. All. Happening. Here.

Secondsop Wed 05-Dec-12 08:29:35

Hello ladies. Not sure when I'll be allowed home but I REALLY HOPE it'll be some time today. BP was pretty high this morning pre-medication so i'd imagine there'd be some more readings and possibly more medication before they get he balance right. stacey it was my bp medication;
I was told to stop taking metformin straight after delivery (which I did).

The good news is that by dint of sheer bloody-mindedness on my part with help from the midwife, both of Zach's last 2 feeds were long breastfeeds, no formula. She also didn't understand why he wasn't latching because he'd have his face in exactly the right place but not latch, even when he was obviously ravenous.
She thought it might be that he wanted the bottle but said she'd seen his kind of behaviour in babies who'd never had bottles so it could just be him. But I think we've turned a bit of a corner -
If we do have to formula topup I'm going to use a cup or spoon, not the teat. He' did latch eventually, but it took 2 hours in the middle of the night to get the first feed done. The next one was a bit better though so hopefully he is learning.

I've lost track of who is at what stage of labour / impending labour, but good luck to those of you who are currently watching signs and symptoms wondering if you will be next! I know I go on about my own problems lately but I know I'm lucky that i have Zach to cuddle whilst most of you are still waiting for your new bundles of joy.

emilyeggs Wed 05-Dec-12 08:30:52

Good luck mama grin

WeeJo08 Wed 05-Dec-12 08:32:44

Good luck Mamapo - BabyMamaPo will be with you soon! grin

Spotty That is so rubbish about the heating and hot water, I would be so upset sad Is it very cold with you? We have a bit of snow this morning, just a skiff, but still.

Seconds Sorry you're back in again but definitely positive to take advantage of the BF support! smile

Walnut Did you get checked out?

Barbeasty Thank you so much for the burger advice re: BF! It really helped and last night Claudia got lots more and it wasn't anywhere near as traumatic for her (or me!) My boobs are super sore now and have had to crack out the breast pads (so now I rustle at both ends of me - attractive) but I am so happy that my milk seems to be coming through. DH picking up breast pump today too, so hopefully we are tackling the BF on all fronts! (no pun intended!)

Re: lady garden trimmage - that's what I did last Friday afternoon and then my waters broke two hours later! grin I'm sure no connection, but still! I had also only done basic trimming (well, DH did for me) so I was worried the beautician would say something, but I think they've seen it all before! I was worried that my wax wouldn't last until my due date....!! In my dopey state after the birth when I was in theatre I told this to the anaesthetist blush

ivanapoo Wed 05-Dec-12 08:44:38

Hi everyone, another who was on earlier threads but couldn't keep up but now I'm on ML I can MN to my heart's content

Congrats to those who've already welcomed their babies!

Due a week tomorrow, eek! Have had some period pain type things and baby feels low down but that's it so far.

Is anyone else becoming slightly obsessed with baby movements?! I think mine have changed a bit in terms of time of day/ type of movement even though i am still getting quite a lot and it is turning me into a nervous wreck! Also I'm feeling them less - last night was watching baby contort my tummy into all kinds of crazy positions but I could only just feel it...

I have become a craft monster since starting leave, lucky relatives getting one of my poorly-sewn Xmas creations!

weejo I love that you told the anaesthetist about your lady garden! Hehe. Off to fight the traffic (and snow) to get to my appointment.

FriendofDorothy Wed 05-Dec-12 09:42:29

Well I had a little trip to the ward last night as I was a bit worried about lack of movement.

She hooked me up to the CTG monitor and everything was fine, she also said that she can feel most of his head so I assume that means he isn't engaged at all sad

My BP was a little higher than normal though so she checked it three times and it was coming down, although she asked me lots of questions about pre-eclampsia. Midwife wasn't especially worried about it though. I have another appointment on Thursday to see the midwife for a routine appointment.

I did manage to catch up with one of my colleagues on the ward though about one of my clients who had a baby yesterday morning. There are a couple of cases that I am finding much harder to leave alone!

Today I have an appointment to have my eyebrows waxed and a pedicure. My lady garden is like a jungle and quite frankly it can stay like that! I am also having lunch with my cousin's wife as she is a week ahead of me. Fun smile

Clarella Wed 05-Dec-12 09:54:44

Ok quick poll : been offered induction on Friday as they have room compared to Monday ..... what to do??!!!!

Baby 1/5 so it's just this buggery cervix!!!!

Welcome back Ivana, it's lovely that lots of old names are coming back for the home stretch, very exciting! My family are also getting lots of home mades from me, yesterday I made a batch of apple sauces, today it will be mint sauce from my mint in the garden. Also knitting little Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monrow and Jimi Hendrix dolls!

Glad the bf perseverance it paying off, it sounds like hard work, but worth it in the end, like a battle of wills!

We don't have snow sad we get snowed in every year, I love the adventure and expedition of getting out of it, but I suppose it's not very practical this year!

Friend your BP was probably up because of the anxiety of the situation, glad it's come back down.

Clarella I would take up the offer, but that's cause this baby it annoying me with his lack of respect from my organs and personal space!

brooke89 Wed 05-Dec-12 10:10:30

Thanks for all your kind words ladies smile

Still hardly any movement clarella don't think I felt LO at all throughout the night and have tried cold drink this morning and nothing so just about to head up to DAU Now.

RudolphTheRedNosedGiraffe Wed 05-Dec-12 10:16:23

Friend, if you went to the hospital because you were worried, wouldn't that explain higher than normal blood pressure? The MW sent me to have something checked a couple of weeks ago and I was really stressed about it, and when they measured my blood pressure at hospital it was quite a bit higher (although mine is usually low so was still in normal limits).

Clarella what method of induction will they use? I've never been past 36 weeks and that was bad enough so I would probably take it but ask for the pessary like I had as it's much gentler.

kate2boysandabump Wed 05-Dec-12 10:33:55

Good luck mamapo

Clarella when do you have to decide by? How happy are you to keep sitting it out?

Sat in the blood test queue, again. Then off the DAU for monitoring, again. Bloody high blood pressure. I've still not recovered from last week's mauling, so dreading this.

Midwife examined me again this morning, cervix forward, 2cm and bulging waters. Come on baby!!

FriendofDorothy Wed 05-Dec-12 10:37:03

Bugger it. I have made it to 38+3 with no new stretchmarks but this morning I noticed a couple of tell tale red marks that looks like they are imminent. Balls! sad

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Wed 05-Dec-12 10:40:01

clarella what did midwife say yesterday? Was cervix any more favourable? When do you need to let them know by ?

Good luck at DAU brooke and kate

CODwidow Wed 05-Dec-12 10:42:37

On phone so losing track a little blush

Well still pregnant here, was woken 3 times in the night with really strong contractions but just went straight back to sleep afterwards as tbh I'm bored with it! Then up at 6:45ish with really bad period type cramps and tightenings, still losing snot like discharge (sorry tmi) but once again all seems to have died down again! Grrr so fed up with the on/off

Secondsop Wed 05-Dec-12 10:44:00

clarella if it were me I'd take the induction but as spotty says, find out what method they'll start with and whether that is likely to do the trick or cervix effacement. I had the gel and that turned out to be all I needed for the whole thing.

kate bulging waters sounds promising!

friend re your BP, did they talk to you during the taking of it? my community midwife does this ALL THE TIME and it's so irritating; she then remembers that you're not meant to talk during it and tells me to shush when I reply to her questions.

Clarella Wed 05-Dec-12 10:45:47

I was fine to sit it out but then thought what diff does 3 days really make?! But then thought actually could be a lot. Cervix is still posterior. Mw at hospital said can be offered 41-42 wks and no diff in outcomes etc. Stone of me thought that if on Friday they might let it go slow - so yes pessary etc slowly as ling as baby ok. Ffs I'm shit at decision making!!!!!

Honeycantthinkofanxmasnickname Wed 05-Dec-12 10:48:52

If they think they're gonna be busy clarella it will probably be more relaxing (!) on Friday? I'd go for it as would be desperate by now.

Good luck to every one who's being monitored.

clarella I would be inclined to take the Friday slot, but then I'm 38+3 and incredibly fed up already (even though I have the guarantee that I won't go past 39+6).

Well I am now waxed. Boy did that sting! I am glad it's done now and I don't have to worry about it for labour. Now I need to follow in the footsteps of weejo and have my waters break in a few hours! grin

Hopefully off to see a good friend this afternoon who's just had a hip replacement (she's only 38 bless her). She's a star and I loves her, so while I've got the car I want to visit!
