I've had a couple of period cramp like feelings, is that braxton hicks? I'm just noticing something like that now, but it could also be baby poking at something

eurochick Thu 01-May-14 10:38:59

I ended up feeling quite unwell yesterday and calling the mw. She reckoned a UTI was the most likely cause so I am drinking loads of water and the GP's receptionist is now the proud possessor of a container of my wee, the lucky, lucky lady. I'm feeling a bit better today. The baby has been really low down for the past few days so maybe that was squashing everything. Movements seem to be a little higher today so perhaps that has relieved the pressure.

Horace, I'm glad all was well.

Disney, I agree that the movements are rather distracting. It's odd trying to hold a conversation with someone when a small person is using your internal organs as an activity gym!

Lol loving the description euro!

Disney its when your bump goes really tight with occasional back pain. Its fake contractions. My sil had a prem baby 24weeker who has been telling some horrible stories. The worst bit was she actually told me what was happening and she wasnt going to go get checked. She labours very quick (lucky! )
baby is thankfully at home now but still scary!

DuPainDuVinDuFromage Thu 01-May-14 10:52:20

I'm not sure what BH feels like - and I've already had one baby! Either I don't really get them, or I have been just lumping them in with the uncomfortable cramp-like feeling that you get early on when your ligaments are stretching - does that sound like BH? If so, I am getting them occasionally but not badly.

I have had my blood test results back from the doctor and I have low iron levels - that explains the tiredness and makes me feel better as I was worried I was just being useless at coping! I have been really weepy the last few days, and also having really strong mood swings, I seem to have something new to shout at DH about every time I see him sad Hope it's just hormones and they calm down soon...

Glad things are going ok for everyone else who has had worries - hope everyone is doing alright!

PinaColadas Thu 01-May-14 10:56:15

I'm glad you've got a reault back, It's nice to get an explanation. I'm quite hormonal too, cry at the drop of a hat!

BH... I'm still not sure if i'm getting them, I've had a couple of times where for about 20-30 mins by bump goes super tight and it's very uncomfortable, wasn't really sure if it was BH or not.

I'm trying to eat smaller meals now because if I have a lot to eat I get really really uncomfortable, feel like I might explode some times!

Baby is getting naughtier by the day, loves to sleep when i'm awake and have a disco when I want to sleep. I still love it though, even though I'm exhausted I love to feel it, even at 4 am haha!

DisneyDiva87 Thu 01-May-14 11:10:42

I don't think I have had that yet. I'm assuming it's the kind of thing that I would notice? baby is still moving... I have a yoga class later, hopefully that will calm it down for a bit, the walk to the gym and back should at least.

You feeling better today Euro? Hope you don't have a UTI although I guess you could have a lot worse so if it's going to be anything I hope that is what it is.

memedragon Thu 01-May-14 12:41:56

I think I have had a few Braxton-Hicks where my abdomen sort of tightens up - it started quite a while ago (as in over a month ago) but it's only happened about 10 times in total. I also occasionally have round ligament pain, that has been happening since the end of the 1st trimester, I don't get it very much any more though.

Different subject entirely - what are your thoughts on baby names? Have you chosen one/two/several? Have you told people? We had a boy and girl name picked out before I even got pregnant, it's just something I've always thought about, even when I didn't know if I wanted kids. I just like thinking about names (sometimes I even think about what I'd name a dog or a cat if I got one! Er, I didn't just compare my unborn child to a pet there hmm). I mentioned some names to DH once and there was one of each that he really liked, and we still both like them, so that's what we'll go with.

While I haven't exactly "announced" it and don't refer to the baby by name or anything, I do tend to tell people the name we like if they ask (we know it's a girl now - well, probably). I have only started doing this in the last month or so. However, I know some people don't like to tell anyone until after the baby arrives - what do you all think? Just curious. And procrastinating.

PinaColadas Thu 01-May-14 13:33:52

meme we were kind of the same, we had decided names for baby we MC, The girl name is still in the short list but boy name has been harder, SIL had a baby same time our MC baby was due and called their baby our boy name (first and middle name! What are the chances!?) Was a bit hard to take at the time but they weren't to know! We have definately decided on boy name now and girl name we have a short list of 3. We are keeping it all quiet though, more just because will be nice to be a surprise for family smile

eurochick Thu 01-May-14 13:35:54

Thanks disney. I'm feeling quite a bit better today. I think the baby has moved up a bit and my bladder is less squashed. I really didn't feel good at all yesterday.

meme there is no way anyone other than me and mr euro will know the name before it is announced. Otherwise people will have opinions. Once the baby is here, I suspect they will just accept whatever we choose.

memedragon Thu 01-May-14 15:17:27

See I think it's so weird that people would tell you their opinions on a name, unless the opinion is just "that's lovely!". I have plenty of opinions about names, but I'd never tell anyone I didn't like their child's name, whether it was born yet or not. It's none of my business! I guess it would be different if they were toying with a name and were canvassing for truly honest opinions. Even then I'd still be very cautious.

Pina that really is an unfortunate situation, must have been quite difficult. I suppose it is nice to keep a it a surprise for the family, but on the other hand I assume if they're asking then they're not too worried about being surprised!

ilovemonstersInc Thu 01-May-14 15:47:09

I had a boy and girl name in mind before 20weeks scan now we know its a boy I have almost picked his name lol dh doesn't do picking names until baby is here. Last time I gave him 3 names and said this is my fav.he asked his fam what they thought (out of curiosity as its a 'powerful' a few elder members of my family didnt agree but id already decided so it was tough. Suits him

mssleepyhead Thu 01-May-14 16:50:01

Meme - we have a name : ) and love love love it. My mum and dad know because I wanted them to prepare for it (its not a British name because baby is very multicultural!) and my sister knows because she told me hers and I wanted to share. But no one else will know. We're still calling him by his pre birth nickname but I'm thinking of him by his name more and more and sometimes I practise saying it : )

DisneyDiva87 Fri 02-May-14 09:26:23

We aren't telling anyone in our family names, I try to avoid discussing names and if I'm pushed I'll list a couple of names that are nice but that I'm not considering and when all else fails I say I really like David John or John David (GF's names!) followed by 'but I suppose we can't call the baby that'. MIL has very quick reactions and says things before she thinks, we mentioned one name we liked and she recoiled in horror declaring we can't call the baby that for a reason I won't mention (it is so ridiculous in our opinion that it's embarrassing and would portray MIL in a terrible and untrue way) so we just don't talk about names to family anymore.

If friends ask and they guess one of the names we have shortlisted I'll say that's one we picked out, I'm not going to lie over a possible name that I might not even choose in the end grin. My opinion on names changes too much too often to decide on anything, I'm hoping inspiration will strike when baby is born.

DuPainDuVinDuFromage Fri 02-May-14 09:41:55

We don't tell people about names we have chosen (for a boy) or are considering (for a girl - still have a huge list and no agreement!). But I have done a couple of baby names threads on here so you lot are the only ones who could know both my RL name and our list of names, if you could be bothered to find out!

I don't want to be influenced by what other people think of our possible names (in real life anyway - I'm prepared to consider the opinions of mumsnetters, up to a point grin) and I'm very easily led so I think it's safest not to mention any of them or I could be put off names I like. Especially by my mum, who does that thing where she just goes quiet and you know that means she is judging you for your choice of name...she did that a bit with DD after she was born but I think she's got used to it now!

DuPainDuVinDuFromage Fri 02-May-14 09:44:01

Btw, are we going to have a new thread soon? (Not that I'm volunteering...am rubbish at thinking up titles!)

And I had a look at the Maybies thread because I was getting all excited about them having their babies (that'll be us soon!!) and they have a spreadsheet with details about due dates etc - do we want to do the same? Again, not sure I would be the best person to do that, I'm not great at making spreadsheets that actually work!

DisneyDiva87 Fri 02-May-14 10:09:27

There's a spreadsheet on the FB page, I'll see if I can get someone to copy it across to the new thread. I didn't even realise we were close to filling this one.
