Large afterbirth

Had my first scan 2 weeks ago, doc said approx 8 weeks, but that the afterbirth appeared large.
Said probably used to be another one in there at one point, but definitely only one now.
Have looked all over on t'internet to see what risks/problems this could cause.....any ideas?

Do you mean placenta?

Sorry, no idea. It is fairly common for twins to conceive and one not to make it very far though - so I guess statistically it will be fine. Sorry for your loss though.

Remember that "large" at 8 weeks is a very relative term- the placenta is still very small and will be a lot smaller than the baby at birth. The ultrasound person meant that it was large for one baby and supposed that there might have been a disappearing twin (which is really not uncommon, as Marigold says).
