Welcome to our new home! Right, time to get that baybee out lazy!

FriendofDorothy Sat 25-May-13 21:12:08

Ahhh we are home after a week's holiday with my inlaws.

We all survived although I was getting quite pissed off with some fairly passive-aggressive comments about parenting etc from my MIL.

JethroTull Sat 25-May-13 20:32:09

Bath? Nap even!

JethroTull Sat 25-May-13 20:31:33

The bugaboo chameleon & the be safe izi go car seat. We looked at loads but kept coming back to the bugaboo. We got it from a factory outlet type place & it was way cheaper than anywhere else. And the car seat was half price.

Enjoy your bath Faith

What did you get jeff?!

Not long to go pink then? Sorry to hear its hard work covering your colleague. Only 5 weeks though! smile

Well safe in the knowledge there's an expressed bottle and family who are going to tag team bottle-bath-bottle I'm having a nap!

JethroTull Sat 25-May-13 19:20:02

We bought a buggy today!! grin

pinkr Fri 24-May-13 07:58:58

Been busy with work at the min...got to cover for a ill <read lazy> colleague and have to take extra classes and marking to help the poor kids who have been taught nothing all year!
No half term...only five Weeks till end of term and mat leave startings'! ,

Bought the Phillips avent. The pump isn't that big and was attached to all the other bits so I um, bunged them all in the steriliser?! the blue bit on the top right is the pump. Ah well I got 5oz expressed today. One full baby snoozing now. I best settle too!

Hope you had a nice day dor?

How is everyone else doing? pink do you get half term now?

FriendofDorothy Thu 23-May-13 22:39:06

How on earth did you manage to submerge the pump?

Which pump did you buy in the end?

grin

It worked [grin[ so much easier!

Hmm, pump is now turning on again...about to try it!

Submerged the pump and motor confused. Ordered a new one but its half as much as we paid for the pump again. I have a sleep babe who whines every time she's put down. I guess I'm just feeling a bit low. Ironically we had a really good night. Took ages to settle her last night (it was 10.30pm before she finally went down) but then she slept til 4am!

I was moping too because I was meant to get my hair done but my hairdresser is sick. My hair is all frizzy and I feel crappy because of it and they can't fit me in until next week. Instead I have been proactive and booked into another hairdresser. Scary (no-one else has done my hair for about 5 years!) but I only need a tidy up so I'm going for it. Also leaving Faithlet with my Dad for the first time but have a bottle expressed in case he needs it. He's actually quite excited!

dor you make me feel quite fortunate that MSB doesn't have much contact with his crazy mother! Hope you have a nice day out.

FriendofDorothy Wed 22-May-13 11:36:30

How did you break it? Can you get replacement parts. Chin up. You have lots if milk and a happy babe. All's well.

We are away until Saturday. If it was just me and The Mister and the boy it would be lovely.

Not to mention the inlaws are coming to stay for another week in 3 weeks time. confused

I will join you in the feeling shitty comer dor. Sadly it's myself undermining myself. My breast pump arrived and I broke it immediately. This has sent me down a negative thought process. Have my 6 week check on Friday (happily with the luffly female GP at my practice) so I will say about how I'm thinking/feeling then. She's alright - full of milk and fast asleep on me!

How long are you away for dor? I gather from t'other place you didn't have a good night?

FriendofDorothy Tue 21-May-13 21:57:53

I am feeling shitty tonight. A

All the photos I have seen of me this week I look terrible. My arse looks fucking enormous and I feel really vulnerable. I think my MIL's gentle undermining of me this week is really getting to me.

Edward just wouldn't stop crying and that made me cry even more.

pinkr Mon 20-May-13 07:36:20

I really don't know how to tell her that she's become a bit ott. She's been great i'm a lot of other ways and she is one of my oldest friends but the bf thing scares me the way she's so set. I know though that if I need help with it she'll bend over backwards...I just find the other stuff too much.
Of course everyone has they're opinion.. Don't even ask about mil... grin

When my baybee was 36 hours old and starving they encouraged me to FF her from a cup. I said at the time - I want to BF but I'm not so precious about it that I'll refuse to feed her formula if that's what she needs right now. I hand expressed colostrum so that she got the goodness from that and it helped my milk kick in. I think you have to do what's right for your circumstances.

What a good night! Faithlet gets a gold star - fed til 9, took ages to settle but after she did she slept til 2.30, fed for 30 minutes then slept til 5.45!!!! shock smile so much sleep!!

JethroTull Sun 19-May-13 22:18:39

I'm sure I will too Dor, it just might not involve evangelical BF!!

FriendofDorothy Sun 19-May-13 22:02:12

I am sure that both pinkr and Jethro will do fine.

pinkr Sun 19-May-13 21:56:59

I know she's judged other people so if I can't then even if she seems supportive I'll know she thinks badly of me. I think she's just been lucky and took to it well.
I too promise never to judge others or give unwanted advice!

FriendofDorothy Sun 19-May-13 21:08:42

Your friend sounds like a pain in the arse.

My advice is to give bf a go.
Persevere but if it becomes too horrendous, for whatever reason, then do something different!

this page also has some interesting stats. Basically saying wait til at least 6 weeks before mix feeding to establish supply. We've had no problems giving Faithlet a bottle of expressed milk, only thing is hand pumping is a pain so I'm looking forward to the electric pump I bought off eBay arriving (hopefully tomorrow!) smile

Jeepers formula isn't the devil! It has its place. Some babies would not survive without it! I just preferred to BF and was worried about my supply if it was introduced too soon. I found this NCT page helpful about mixed feeding when MSB was keen and I wasn't.

JethroTull Sun 19-May-13 19:56:14

^ that attitude is exactly what I'm talking about pink. I'm not even saying I'm NOT going to do it but I already feel worried about talking about it if I had an issue. Which I probably won't. I think women feel the need to be evangelistic about childcare in general. What's right for you doesn't necessarily translate to being right for anyone else. I really hope I learn to keep my opinions to myself unless I'm actually asked for them.

pinkr Sun 19-May-13 19:50:03

That's awful that there's no nhs class faith...tbh I'd read most of it already but it was nice to be able to ask things. The nct class here was 210 I think! !
I feel the bf pressure...I really really want to do it but one of my best friends has become some what militant about it and is currently training to be a advisor type. She actually said to me that formula was the equivalent of not strapping baby in when in a car and told me formula babies are more likely to die of stomach problem shock I really feel she's going to judge me if I can't do it. My other friend couldn't and i'm much less scared of telling her if I feel I can't.
