New thread as the other one is nearly full shock!

Our next baby should be pmgkt's, but I won't if any little cheeky monkey will sneak in before Thursday?

I was having quite bad, fairly regular period type pains and decided to try to get to sleep, got woken up two hours later by a very strong one. These continued for the next hour and half. Went to pee and went back to bed and now bugger all!!! confusedconfused

I'm back on my ball...

Hope you're having more luck Allchik

orangeshortbread Wed 09-Jan-13 11:51:13

woody can you add me on to your list - was due 02/01 and it is a girl.

orangeshortbread Wed 09-Jan-13 11:51:31

and still waiting for her to appear...

allchik Wed 09-Jan-13 11:56:39

Fucking nakered! Excuse the language!
Got all the way to 7mins apart, this lasted for 8 hrs (plus the 5 hrs before that of 20mins apart) didnt get a single second of sleep as pain was v intense.
Phoned maternity ward n just confirmed im having a long latent phase, meant to give ur body a chance to recoup!!!grrr
a few hrs i could do,or longer if it was more of a crampy feel but 13hrs of that with no let up n then nothing is soul destroying!

bernie huge congrats x

octanegirl Wed 09-Jan-13 12:38:27

Allchik you poor thing. Swearing excused and justified!

Allchik - it probably wasn't for nothing, your baby was getting into a good position maybe. You could well be 2 or 3 cm dilated now. The latent labour phase went on for three weeks with dd3 so I'm not do excited when I have a bout of contractions!

Hormonalhell Wed 09-Jan-13 13:22:52

Allchik oh I really feel for you, bet u are totally shattered!!hmm just hope when u get to active labour it's really quick, that's the way I tend to look at it now. Won't they just start you off?

theboutiquemummy Wed 09-Jan-13 13:39:12

Allchick huge huge hugs is your baby the same position as mine ? Back to Back and face out towards pelvis ?

MamaMary Wed 09-Jan-13 14:23:46

Good luck Allchik. Not much consolation, but I'm knackered too for a different reason - Leah has decided sleeping is for daytime and the best time for feeding is ALL NIGHT LONG.....grrrr! Three nights of this and I'm totally shattered.

Thinking of all you ladies in labour. It's simply amazing what our bodies are capable of - every pain pales into irrelevance the second the baby comes out smile

godzookey Wed 09-Jan-13 14:34:17

hi Ladies,

Well i'm due on Monday and haven't really felt anything yet - god i hope this baby is not too overdue as the thought of having a sweep leaves me cold!! we went for a sneaky peak around the birthing centre on Sunday but no dice as it was full - gutted as one of the girls from my NCT group had rocked up on the Friday and there was no one there so she got the full tour.

and i am MASSIVE.. although not helped when my breakfast today was a triple choc muffin, plain choc Bounty and two pieces of toast - oops!!

One of the managers from work cryptically phoned yesterday and has asked to come round tonight as he needs some 'advice' - little inconvenient but curiosity has got the better of me, just annoying that i have to now bother to get dressed - if it were a female colleague to be honest i think i'd just stay in my PJs!!

Thinking of you allchik and congrats to bernie

xx

Lostbobbles Wed 09-Jan-13 14:45:18

Big hugs Allchik, hope you get some rest and baby stops this naughtiness and makes a more speedy appearance.

Nowhere near as bad as you but had contraction's every 10 -12 mins from 2am until 7am this morn and then nothing. Although think I'm more annoyed at rubbish timing as DH had to take day off work to take DD to her school appoint as couldn't risk driving and more so the embarrassment if it all kicked off againwink. (But typical not more than a few BH's have been felt since)angry Think I'm in for the slow run as well this time.

Anyway going to try convince DH to take me to the shoe shop (under the guise of being active may start things off)grin

Woody, thanks for cracking job on the stats

eagleray Wed 09-Jan-13 18:53:29

Good luck Allchik - hope things get moving properly soon

Godzookey - nice work with the Bounty breakfast - if that's what gets you through the day, then go for it!

Shoe shop sounds like a great idea Lostbobbles - every little bit of activity helps

Am 38+5 today and had first sweep this morning. Things looking fairly good in terms of readiness, but baby didn't feel too impressed at hand of midwife suddenly appearing... Not so much as a twinge since then, just a bit stiff and achey. Have had the most massive housework/chucking everything in a binbag session though - rewarding myself with a pizza right now smile

godzookey Wed 09-Jan-13 20:52:31

eagle - how uncomfortable/painful was the sweep - the thought scares me!

Realise how ridiculous this makes me sound in light of soon to be going through labour but wanted to avoid if possible - because the thought scares me

I am the woman who used to have to have a stiff drink before going ahead with a smear test - yes even if the test was scheduled for the morning smile

bealos Wed 09-Jan-13 22:36:05

godz I think a sweep is always going to be uncomfortable. They are sticking their fingers in your cervix after all! However, it can be done in a brutal or caring fashion. If you decide to have one (or having three is the most effective according to my midwife friend!) then explain you fears and make them go r-e-a-l-l-y s-l-o-w so you can control the experience and how you manage it.

Wonder if they'd let you have gas and air for a sweep? hmm

Pascha Wed 09-Jan-13 22:41:10

I had a sweep last friday and it wasn't painful at all. I was already 2-3cm dilated though and virtually fully effaced. My MW thinks sweeps only really work if the cervix is starting to do the work anyway. If its still far back and OS closed then I imagine it will be uncomfortable at least.

eagleray Wed 09-Jan-13 23:03:04

Godzookey - it didn't hurt at all. The MW went very slowly and went to great pains to describe exactly what was happening, which helped a lot. I think the pain levels you experience vary between one person and the next, who is doing it and also how much is achievable (as per Bealos/Pascha's comments). I can't remember the exact terminology used but baby very low, cervix soft and ripe (and anterior) but not open enough to perform effective stretch and sweep.

I am going through same process again on Saturday - would love to leave things but when you are aged over 40 there is a lot of pressure to have an induction as soon as you are overdue, and so this is the lesser of two evils. It did also give me a bit of confidence that things are progressing in the right direction.

I'm going to go for a walk tomorrow - felt a bit ashamed that I didn't manage to take some exercise after the sweep today as may have helped, but just felt so bloody tired!

happyhow Wed 09-Jan-13 23:26:15

My sweep on Tuesday wasn't sore at all and wasn't too uncomfortable - was much better than getting a smear to be honest... My midwife also went slowly and described what she was doing and what she was feeling. I then had a student midwife having a root around which was slightly sore but only because she hadn't found the cervix opening. As soon as she got it, it was fine again. Just breathe through it and try to stay as relaxed as possible.

I've just had a lovely roasting hot bath. It's not quite as relaxing when there are cables hanging from the ceiling and dust sheets all over the floor and no tiles on the walls but it was still lovely!! Managed to do a bit of tidying up down below too so feeling much better about having half the city look down there at some point in the very near future!! grin

newbie6 Wed 09-Jan-13 23:59:40

Hi all,

Just to say I'm being induced tomorrow so may be off radar for a bit but will post as soon as I can. I am absolutely terrified but praying everything will work out fine, will be 38 weeks plus 3 so bambino should be fine to come out, just need my body to be tricked into thinking that too smile

Good luck to everyone else having contractions or sections or inductions and I can't thank you all enough for your support and laughter, couldn't have got through all this without you lovely lot!

Xxxx

allchik Thu 10-Jan-13 03:05:19

Tempted to put my head in the oven...
So after a wopping 2 hrs of sleep contractions started again early this afternoon, every 10mins again...by 10pm realised hadnt felt baby move so wnt to maternity ward. BP was v high, did trace on baby and all was fine, thank goodness! Weirdly when at hospital my contractions sped up to every 5 mins, although an internal showed I was only 1cm (after 3 days of contractions!)
Was asked if wanted to stay in but decided to come home (1.30am) since home theyre coming euery 4 to 5 mins n are v hard to manage, also think my waters have burst...so im gonna hold out for a little while longer then wake up hubby n go bk in,ive left him to sleep for a bit cus need one of us to be with it!
I just pray this will be over soon, the exhaustion is killing me,I need to sleep so bad x

PixelCarrier Thu 10-Jan-13 05:46:39

Hope it goes well today allchik, sounds like you are finally getting there...

I've been up since 3am, and really want to sleep too, but counting my blessings at the moment as I'm otherwise well.

Hormonalhell Thu 10-Jan-13 09:55:55

I share your pain Allchik, was u in LGI ??? I was there too last night after finding a lump coming out of my lady bits!! shock turns out its just a cyst and everything ok on that front but had high levels of protein in my urine so had to have blood tests/wait for results etc. I too was contracting every 10 mins for about 4 hours but when they did speculum was only 2cm which apparently is normal for woman whose had 2 kids. Got home at 1.15 and everyone gutted cos thought I would be home with baby hmm

Lostbobbles Thu 10-Jan-13 10:53:42

Allchik / Hormonal add me to the baby games!! Started contracting again at 12 last night, 4-5mins but only lasting 30-40 secs. Got told to come in and on examination at 4am only 1cm angry.

Got admitted onto ward as wanted to monitor as previous c-sec. Contraction slowed but got longer and more painful and now 'de nada' again.

Good luck everyone! It sounds like there will be lots of babies very soon. Early labour is an arse isn't it? So frustrating stopping and starting all the time. I'm still at the 'can't stop cleaning' stage. Some bouts of contractions but very mild and I doubt I've dilated at all. Baby is very low though.
