To expect Brazil to put up a fight?

My God. My absolute God. 3 goals in 2 minutes from Germany.

It was like a moment from a ludicrous game of FIFA against my drunk younger brother.

rallytog1 Tue 08-Jul-14 21:27:58

grin grin grin grin

efeslight Tue 08-Jul-14 21:29:09

My God!!!

gobbin Tue 08-Jul-14 21:29:56

5 now lol

efeslight Tue 08-Jul-14 21:29:57

They're scoring faster than I can post...

eurochick Tue 08-Jul-14 21:30:11

I've never seen anything like it in a high level match. It's just incredible.

ilovesooty Tue 08-Jul-14 21:30:49

Serves them right. Their behaviour against Columbia was disgraceful.

CocktailQueen Tue 08-Jul-14 21:31:05

Yeah, they seem to have given up. How embarrassing. Giant holes in their defence, not even trying. Bizarre!

Nicknacky Tue 08-Jul-14 21:31:07

I'm embarrassed for them. They are getting leathered.

I am mortified for them shock - and I am German!

CoffeeTea103 Tue 08-Jul-14 21:31:34

There's no coming back for them now.

What happened to that team? Is it all Neymar not being there?? confused

MBT1987 Tue 08-Jul-14 21:33:03

Remember Steve Harper's testimonial when his 3 kids came on and scored consecutive penalties? Do you think Brazil are counting on that from one of their dives?

ilovesooty Tue 08-Jul-14 21:33:26

They've Neymar and their captain missing, but it shouldn't result in this massacre.

HoneyTits Tue 08-Jul-14 21:34:49

And it only got worse. 5-0 grin

How embarrassing! Just glad it wasn't England on the receiving end.

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 21:35:25

OMG!!!! [shocked]

mumatron Tue 08-Jul-14 21:37:13

It's uncomfortable to watch. I've never seen anything like it.

Maybe BetFred has had a hand in this?! wink

It IS uncomfortable to watch - I don't like it. My boys are v happy otoh. Savages!

Fondorlat Tue 08-Jul-14 21:38:46

I don't think they were that bad against Columbia tbh @ pp ^^ was columbian player who cracked Neymar's vertebrae, there was no reasonable excuse for what that guy claimed was a tackle tbh. Regardless, yes Silva and Neymar missing are clearly a huge loss. Embarrassing.

WorraLiberty Tue 08-Jul-14 21:40:01

God I'm cringing for the poor fuckers

aderynlas Tue 08-Jul-14 21:40:29

Six five , we re going to win six five !!!!

okilydokily Tue 08-Jul-14 21:40:32

I'm half expecting the Brazil team to walk off the pitch, if this gets any worse. Some of the fans look traumatised! Its painful to watch.

MBT1987 Tue 08-Jul-14 21:41:58

I think they were pretty dirty against Colombia, but not much more than any other match (read: they're always cheating diving f***ers) - it's just all collapsed for them.

The crazy part is, the German players are STILL hungry! Half the squad was fighting over the free kick! I'm just going to sit back and watch the masterclass.

Andrewofgg Tue 08-Jul-14 21:42:15

It's a joy to watch. And I'm not German. I speak German and I am looking forward to downloading the German newspapers tomorrow.

ok, yes, I was wondering whether they would just throw in the towel… it might be more dignified.

My mum has phoned me 3x so far tonight… grin

aquashiv Tue 08-Jul-14 21:44:15

They went into lock down/shock after Germany scored so quickly and easily.
I have never seen so many goals scored with such speed at any level.

I feel like I am watching a game that will be referred to for years.

Tanith Tue 08-Jul-14 21:45:44

You tell 'em, aderynias! It's not over until the final whistle!

That will be one heck of a pep talk in the changing rooms in the interval. Poor guys.

JohnFarleysRuskin Tue 08-Jul-14 21:46:59

Oof do you think the team will come back?

MoJangled Tue 08-Jul-14 21:48:20

Booed off. poor sods. I'm coming over all British and feeling sorry for the underdogs

Booing them off was v unkind and unnecessary. I am sure they feel quite bad enough all by themselves.

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 21:51:32

It's about ten years since I've seen Alan Hansen and he is still resplendent. I definitely would.

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 21:52:50

Booed off. poor sods. I'm coming over all British and feeling sorry for the underdogs

Me too.

So far my dad, sis and nephew have all called to make sure my DP is watching it grin

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 21:53:13

^^sorry for being totally off topic, I was overwhelmed! grin

rootypig, I know you did not ask but YABVU <frown>

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 21:54:22

shock Rio Ferdinand's trousers!!!! shock!

Sorry for the tirade of filth, just turned it on and am shock

PhaedraIsMyName Tue 08-Jul-14 21:56:46

Oh this is awful. I was hoping for a Netherlands/Brazil final but it's going to be Germany/Argentina.

If I were them I wouldn't come back after half time.

Oh and the Columbian tackle on Neymar was vvicious.

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 21:56:52

Yes I know sorry blush

I do support Germany (as if you hadn't guessed), but i so hope Brazil catch up a bit and regain some of their dignity.

rooty, re Rio, YANBU grin

gordyslovesheep Tue 08-Jul-14 21:59:45

oh I think it's brilliant grin

Expatmomma Tue 08-Jul-14 22:01:33

My German boyfriend is squirming with compassion and embarrassment.

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:01:55

I never watch football, not since the 90s and I had to see the European Cup on Wednesday nights because we had one telly grin

But I've just yammed my dad and bro on whatsapp and sent out for chocolate

Brazil back on the pitch, so that's a start

What on eaaaaaarth is going to happen

hoobypickypicky Tue 08-Jul-14 22:03:25

Booing is appalling. A fan should never boo their own team.

I'd love to see Brazil pull it back but I think I've more chance of winning the lottery. sad

I just really want them to play well in the second half - not too well, but well wink

AbbieHoffmansAfro Tue 08-Jul-14 22:04:42

My German friend has just texted me to say "It's just like watching Brazil".

LEMmingaround Tue 08-Jul-14 22:05:11

They could still pull it back grin

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:05:11

3 dives in 3 minutes

okilydokily Tue 08-Jul-14 22:05:11

rootypig I'm with you on the Alan Hansen thing. He's a no-nonsense type of manly man. And that scar just seals the deal! He does a good scowl.

JohnFarleysRuskin Tue 08-Jul-14 22:06:30

The way the brazilians played against the Colombians (before that tackle) was indefensible.

I'm really pleased to see their come uppance.

But I feel bit sorry for them too.

AndHarry Tue 08-Jul-14 22:06:39

I'm clearly too soft for football. I nearly cried for the poor lad who missed the third penalty in the Netherlands game and this is just too painful to watch.

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:06:49

okily I have had a thing for him for literally years. His voice! sexy. when he's outraged there is no gap whatsoever between his words grin
He is a fox <gavel>

JohnFarleysRuskin Tue 08-Jul-14 22:07:16

3 dives only?

MBT1987 Tue 08-Jul-14 22:08:35

And now Manuel Neuer gets to show what a MASSIVE BEAST he is. Huzzah.

At least they don't have far to go home.

JohnFarleysRuskin Tue 08-Jul-14 22:10:44

Cor, forget Hanson, neuyer is my man of the match!

MBT1987 Tue 08-Jul-14 22:11:56

Reminds me of this.

okilydokily Tue 08-Jul-14 22:13:20

rootypig He's definitely the foxiest 59 year old man I can think of! And I don't normally fancy older men. He's still in good shape!

Brazil are giving it a bloody good go, now. I'm hoping they can score a couple of goals, for decency's sake.

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:18:26

All this diving they are doing they'd be good off a 10m board!!!

They are playing better… <fingers crossed for opposing team>

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:20:25

Neuer is also a fox, and this Germany kit is terribly sultry.

I wish the Brazilians would stop falling over, it's the most embarrassing thing of all sad

60sname Tue 08-Jul-14 22:20:35

Just putting my flag down grin

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:22:42

Do you know, Joachim has a certain something too <fans self>

Just remembered Brazil will have to play for 3rd place, poor bastards

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:24:02

Can see them not turning up for the playoffs

Just remembered Brazil will have to play for 3rd place, poor bastards

Imagine, if they did not win that shock

MoJangled Tue 08-Jul-14 22:25:18

Six! dont want to see any more Brazilian kids sobbing in the stands...

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:25:20

I am actually speechless - not in a good way. What happened to Brazil?!

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:28:19

I keep expecting them to pick up the ball and stripping off the pitch blush

MBT1987 Tue 08-Jul-14 22:30:49

The Dutch and Argentine teams are watching this and going, "Well, fuck..."

PhaedraIsMyName Tue 08-Jul-14 22:30:50

I'm not enjoying this.

botanicbaby Tue 08-Jul-14 22:30:56

brilliant! very happy here grin

SignYourName Tue 08-Jul-14 22:31:31

The Kray twins had a better defence than Brazil.

BumpAndGrind Tue 08-Jul-14 22:34:20

The cheating scum deserve it.

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:34:22

MBT wonder if they'll be playing to lose grin

MoJangled Tue 08-Jul-14 22:36:10

The Brazilian goalie is going to need therapy. Fucking 7

HoneyTits Tue 08-Jul-14 22:36:10

Oh lordy, 7-0

MBT1987 Tue 08-Jul-14 22:36:21

My mate asked on Facebook if anyone thought Germany would score 10. My response was "I'd bet on nein".

German GCSE/A-Level was CLEARLY time well spent.

Zimtschnecke Tue 08-Jul-14 22:36:31

What a shambles!

AIBU that how poor Brazil are playing devalues how well Germany are playing a bit? I may be over thinking this now...

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:37:30

American DH urging Brazil to score 'one point, just one point!'

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:37:36

Goodness knows when this will end [shocked]

Victrix Tue 08-Jul-14 22:38:05

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn grin

DP is not a football fan and is hiding upstairs while I scream and cheer at the TV grin

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:38:30

grin rootpig

The Brazilian team are going to need police protection from the fans, I fear - their fans are truly not very <ahem> supportive of them, are they? shock

Marcipex Tue 08-Jul-14 22:39:18

It's really really embarrassing now, the Brazilian spectators are cheering the German players.

hoobypickypicky Tue 08-Jul-14 22:39:50

It's not often I'm stunned into silence. My family are loving the peace and quiet!

The control from Schurrle just prior to that seventh goal was outstanding.

cricketpitch Tue 08-Jul-14 22:40:28

It is awful. My DS in tears. Shameful display from some of them. Poor goalkeeper, Caesar, - he has no support at all - it is just him on his own in his box. and poor Neymar - to be so badly injured and to have to watch this.

Such a horrible thing to see.

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:41:06

Totally admire the Brazilian fans for switching sides - utterly pragmatic.

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:42:05

I can seriously see them refusing to play the playoffs

mumatron Tue 08-Jul-14 22:43:57

Riots there already I think.

JohnFarleysRuskin Tue 08-Jul-14 22:44:00

That was a nasty joke MBT

ho hum

AndHarry Tue 08-Jul-14 22:44:20

All that's missing here is a Brazilian own goal.

SignYourName Tue 08-Jul-14 22:46:21

The Brazilians won't be waxing lyrical about this performance...

<sorry grin >

Good grief, not an own goal, please

A Brazilian goal - thank goodness!!

Marcipex Tue 08-Jul-14 22:46:45

Brazil have scored!
Last 5seconds.

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:46:58

At least they have one <clutches at straws>

okilydokily Tue 08-Jul-14 22:47:27

Yaaaaay!!! A goal at last.

MonstersBalls Tue 08-Jul-14 22:48:04

I gave up and came to bed. Did Brazil get a massive cheer for their goal?

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:48:30

"Unforgivable performance" - that'd be about right!

MBT1987 Tue 08-Jul-14 22:48:49

Not even the Brazilians cheered the Brazil goal. By the end, they were chanting "Olé!" for the Germans.

Chelsea are loving that 50 million for Luiz!

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 22:49:23

Neuer's gloved hand is bigger than his head shock

DH so happy for Brazil's 'point' grin

MoJangled Tue 08-Jul-14 22:49:29

what a big fat shame. Not that Germany won, but that they won like that. How awful for Brazil to get creamed at home in their own world cup. This is supposed to be fun isnt it...

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:50:43

Listen to the boos sad

hoobypickypicky Tue 08-Jul-14 22:51:02

Oh, poor Oscar. He's in tears. sad

AndHarry Tue 08-Jul-14 22:51:49

DH puts the blame on the Brazilians' hair getting in their eyes!

JohnFarleysRuskin Tue 08-Jul-14 22:51:57

Harsh crowd...

AndHarry Tue 08-Jul-14 22:52:22

Can't believe the fans booing sad

Not good enough, that's all.

My Argentina flag's still looking goodwink

Come on Lads!!

AndHarry Tue 08-Jul-14 22:53:37

Can I be terribly po-faced and say that it's not sportsmanlike to win 7-1?

I don't like the fans booing, I really don't.

I wish it had been a more evenly matched game with Brazil as the host nation playing well and being able to leave satisfied with a good performance. Poor guys.

PhaedraIsMyName Tue 08-Jul-14 22:54:39

No, not po-faced.

EarthWindFire Tue 08-Jul-14 22:55:55

I think it's unfair if they go on and blame the manager.... He isn't the one on the pitch.

MoJangled Tue 08-Jul-14 22:56:08

Can I be terribly po-faced and say that it's not sportsmanlike to win 7-1?

Agree. The gentlemanly thing to do would have been to stop at 3

Are you truly suggesting that if England could beat Brazil 7:1 they wouldn't??

<runs out of thread>

ilovesooty Tue 08-Jul-14 22:58:02

Any team is going to try to win by as many as they can.

AndHarry Tue 08-Jul-14 22:58:03

A team composed of English gentlemen wouldn't wink

I think Germany were trying for double figures...

MoJangled Tue 08-Jul-14 22:59:55

Apparently England beat Germany 5:1 about 10 years ago (DH's pub quiz brain). Not in a world cup match in front of a sobbing, booing crowd though wink

AndHarry Tue 08-Jul-14 23:00:10

Klose-fest ahoy!

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 23:00:53

We didn't stop at 3 in 2001 Pacific!

KeeperOfBees Tue 08-Jul-14 23:01:42

I said at work today that germany would wipe the floor with brazil.
They deserve it,well done germany.

AndHarry Tue 08-Jul-14 23:02:03

We did. I went on a school trip through Germany soon after with our coach adorned with an England flag with 5-1 in foot-high characters. Our school not being composed of Rnglish gentlemen hmm

Hard to believe, I know, but I don't actually care much about football and was watching the game because my boys were while MNing and playing HayDay

Somebody want to bring up 1966? I can take it grin

rootypig Tue 08-Jul-14 23:10:56

A whole programme on Alan Hansen!! <cancels everything>

rachel234 Tue 08-Jul-14 23:14:12

Well done Germany!!

AwesomeSuperTasty Tue 08-Jul-14 23:23:02

Now this was a game worth staying up for.

My German DH is so happy that he's even considering putting up his German flag. Only considering, mind.

Calypoppy Tue 08-Jul-14 23:30:45

Do you think they've been paid off to lose?

BuildYourOwnSnowman Tue 08-Jul-14 23:32:25

You know Germany don't see playing England as much of a deal. Now being beaten by the Dutch would hurt!

Feel sorry for the Brazilian goalie - terrible defence

German Dh had to get on a long haul flight at half time. I've never heard him so excited! Ds won't believe me when I tell him the score in the morning!

Zimtschnecke Tue 08-Jul-14 23:32:40

Cal, you must be kidding.

BumpAndGrind Tue 08-Jul-14 23:33:08

Don't say such things calypoppy sad I wasn't them to be humiliated and sad. because I'm a little sadistic

MoJangled Tue 08-Jul-14 23:33:09

Don't think there's enough money in Brazil to pay them to do that Caly !

wellnowthenmardybum Tue 08-Jul-14 23:37:19

I can't stop laughing at the pp who said they shouldn't have scored all the goals to have sportsmanship grin

Verycold Tue 08-Jul-14 23:39:32

Wouldn't it have been more humiliating for Brazil to know that Germany stopped trying to score out of pity?

MoJangled Tue 08-Jul-14 23:46:13

Germany scored 2 more goals in that match than England did in their last 2 world cup campaigns combined.

Are they being greedy? Have they got all our goals?

BumpAndGrind Tue 08-Jul-14 23:48:08

I would have thought that to stop trying out of pity wasn't very sportsman like.

WorraLiberty Tue 08-Jul-14 23:49:27

Agree. The gentlemanly thing to do would have been to stop at 3

Fuck me. Can you imagine the riots if Germany stopped at 3 and Brazil came back with 4 goals before the final whistle? grin grin

Or would they have stopped at 3 as well and then dithered about on the pitch, wringing their hands and not knowing what to do next?

wowfudge Tue 08-Jul-14 23:54:15

I had to stop watching when it got to 5-0 and the Brazilians were shell-shocked. Painful.

Work will be interesting tomorrow - there's a Brazilian and a German in my department!

Wetthemogwai Tue 08-Jul-14 23:55:54

I think it was VERY ungentlemaly to get so arsey when Brazil got their goal. As if it would've scratched the surface the unsportsmanly German bastards!

I'd have put money on a Brazil v holland final, that's showed me eh! :p

BuildYourOwnSnowman Tue 08-Jul-14 23:58:26

They were arsey with themselves for conceding the goal. The defence wanted a clean sheet

If only the England team showed the same attitude

AndHarry Wed 09-Jul-14 00:00:16

Ok so my comment was slightly tongue in cheek. The sportsmanlike thing would have been to stop scoring but use all that amazing skill to make it seem like they were trying really hard to score: shots hitting the post, straight to keeper, just wide etc. Now that would have been skill!

WorraLiberty Wed 09-Jul-14 00:13:20

Sportsmanlike behaviour doesn't mean not winning by as many goals as you can. The whole idea of football is to win by as many goals as you can.

It means winning but having empathy and respect for the losing team. To congratulate them and not to rub it in.

I feel absolutely gutted for Brazil and their fans but the Germans definitely showed sportsmanship imo.

PhaedraIsMyName Wed 09-Jul-14 00:14:39

Germany and Austria had no difficulty in playing not to score in the infamous 1982 group stage which put Algeria out and resulted in a rule change.

MrsMikeDelfino Wed 09-Jul-14 00:29:09

I couldn't care less. It's a group of overpaid people kicking a ball around a field. Yawn. smile

PhaedraIsMyName Wed 09-Jul-14 00:33:55

You obviously care enough to post that.

ilovesooty Wed 09-Jul-14 00:46:59

Why bother posting just to say you couldn't care less?

Wetthemogwai Wed 09-Jul-14 00:47:23

Ergh mrsmike sod off, I hate that attitude.

Ludways Wed 09-Jul-14 01:01:50

Scotland Football have just tweeted a reminder that their first round qualifier for euro'16 is in Dortmund against Germany this coming September. #naeborra, they say. Lmao!

PhaedraIsMyName Wed 09-Jul-14 01:06:25

Oh and to make it worse for Brazil Klose has beaten Ronaldo's record of 15 world cup goals.

I remember the 2002 Brazil team which was the last time they won (ironically beating Germany) they were glorious to watch.

Go, Scotland, go! <waves pompoms>

I think the behaviour of the players after the match was v sportsmanlike: lots of handshaking and hugging between players of both teams.
I hope the Brazilian lads got some sleep last night.

rachel234 Wed 09-Jul-14 07:32:58

Agree - very sportsmanship behaviour throughout by both teams. The Germans had obviously prepared well, worked veryhard and played brilliantly, whilst being sympathetic towards the Brazilian players.
The only unsportsmanlike behaviour was the Brazilian fans booing their team and leaving early!

Igneococcus Wed 09-Jul-14 07:33:52

I played competitive sport, not football, for many years and I rather have a crushing defeat th than the suspicion that the opponent eased off as to not upset my team too much.

HouseBaelish Wed 09-Jul-14 10:45:53

I couldn't care less. It's a group of overpaid people kicking a ball around a field. Yawn

And yet you find the time to open the post about football, get to the end and post to say you couldn't care? Yawn indeed.

I fear it was my fault. I really wanted Brazil to win ergo they lost. I'm thinking of hiring myself out as some sort of sporting witch doctor type - people will book me to support the team they want to lose.

Poor David Luiz sad

In light of last night's events, I think what used to be meant by getting a Brazilian will have to change.

It obviously means a "royal humping". grin grin

What were the predictions going into the match? Was anyone predicting a Brazil victory?

Wetthemogwai Wed 09-Jul-14 14:12:45

Poor David Luiz indeed sad I'd put money on his being top of one of those awful countdown programs 'worst World Cup captain ever' or something.

Germany in the first half were INCREDIBLE (as painful as that is to say!) and I think a team of my 3 year old and her friends would've done better than Brazil did in those first 30 mins.
I'm glad they managed to pull it back a bit in the second half with some halfway to on target shots but still utterly devastating for them!

rachel234 Wed 09-Jul-14 19:14:43

Wetthem, why is it painful to say that Germany played really well smile?

PasswordProtected Wed 09-Jul-14 19:42:16

Verdict from German "toyboy":
Ein Wahnsinn!

Everybody at work today held me personally responsible for last night's result grin

So, what do we fancy for tonight then?

I'm rooting for Argentina - I'd like a South American country to be in the final for Germany then to beat them

PhaedraIsMyName Wed 09-Jul-14 22:54:18

I'm rooting for The Netherlands.

rootypig Thu 10-Jul-14 14:02:02

From the sublime to the ridiculous. What a boring match last night. We turned it off until the penalties we were sure were coming. Surely Germany is going to cream Argentina?

gobbynorthernbird Thu 10-Jul-14 14:13:26

I bloody hope not, rooty, because then we'd miss out on this...

rootypig Thu 10-Jul-14 14:24:43

They might rip off their clothes and beat their chests in despair.......?

PhaedraIsMyName Thu 10-Jul-14 17:45:03

There's interesting stuff on BBC website for those that like this sort of thing.

BuildYourOwnSnowman Thu 10-Jul-14 18:08:26

I'm not a Ronaldo fan but am quite impressed with his reason for not having a tattoo

PhaedraIsMyName Thu 10-Jul-14 18:47:35

Yes me too.

AndHarry Thu 10-Jul-14 20:08:18

Yes, me too. It's changed the way I look at him really.

gobbynorthernbird Thu 10-Jul-14 20:13:42

Phaedra, thanks for the soft porn.

I did not know that about tattoos and giving blood.
Good on him.

I read that the German team discussed what the best thing tondo would be in the second half as they didn't want to humiliate brazil. They decided they should just play as they played in the first half as changing how hey were playing would be patronising.

I think they should get rid of the third place play off. Completely pointless game for two teams who would rather be anywhere else

Louis van Gaal has said he would rather not have to play it and I assume Scolari would like to avoid it too.

One of the blokes on the music site I post on said it can just be a way of letting the new kids and the old codgers or anyone who didn't get on the pitch get a game in.

Cristiano Ronaldo has had his moments on the pitch but off it he is a genuinely lovely person:
