to think Jillian Micheals is pure evil?

(80 Posts)

well she is <typing with seriously shaking hands from the evilness of 30 day shred level 2>

flipchart Thu 06-Mar-14 11:48:16

Of course she is!

That's her point!

BigFatGoalie Thu 06-Mar-14 12:07:01

I love and hate her in equal measure!
I did the 30 Day shred and lost my baby weight and even a few more kilos. This morning I did her 50 minute cardio workout off YouTube.
My butt now hurts... angry
She's brilliant and gets results, well done for keeping up until level2!

YANBU - but I find L3 slightly kinder....maybe move yourself up a level and see. I once did L2 and 3 back to back, she was a right bitch then smile

Mrswellyboot Thu 06-Mar-14 12:10:55

Is it worth getting this DVD?

crazykat Thu 06-Mar-14 12:22:57

Try doing her burn fat boost metabolism workout.

I find shred level 2 just about doable (apart from walking press ups but that's due to my dodgy back). I got cocky and tried BFBM and felt like I was dying and could hardly move the next day.

ReindeerBollocks Thu 06-Mar-14 12:25:53

She is a goddess as she gets results when you stick to it.

Saying that I haven't done anything since Xmas, maybe that's why I'm not all up on the Jillian hate right now - ask me again when I start it back up!

TillyTellTale Thu 06-Mar-14 12:55:18

Yes. I did level 1 for a week, and ended up with knees that hurt with every step for a fortnight.

I don't know whether it's my technique or the inherent evilness of the work-out, but when I start again, I won't be doing the bending bits!

walking press up, wtaf is that about, they look so simple but hurt so very much. It is only muscle hurt though and I have lost 1.5inches of my waist already so musnt grumble really.
Tilly sorry about you knees thats rubbish.
Crazy Kat I will look at that as I am already thinking what to do next, maybe ripped in 30. To be fair they do say exactly what they are going to do to you in the title dont they?

TillyTellTale Thu 06-Mar-14 14:01:09

The Jillian Michaels DVD is leering at me from across the room, I swear.

2tiredtocare Thu 06-Mar-14 14:06:38

I love her but verbally abuse her at will

HeirToTheIronThrone Thu 06-Mar-14 14:13:26

Oh god, shouldn't have clicked here - only on day 2 of level 1 of the shred! Ok so far, apart from my utterly feeble press up abilities...

TillyTellTale Thu 06-Mar-14 14:14:29

My husband joined in with me on it, before I went on strike. We chorused swearwords at her. The word 'evil' was practically punctuation!

heir that was me just over a week ago and now I can do proper press ups, i can not however do walking ones.

pinkdelight Thu 06-Mar-14 14:15:00

Mine's still in cellophane in the spare room next to the unopened box of handweights. I'm scared!

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 14:15:33

She is evil but brill. My body looks so buff and I've been doing her various DVDs over the year. I was a size 16 Jan 2013 and now I'm a size 10/12 and can see my abs. I wanna look like Natalie from her DVD, her body is fantastic.

and what seems to hurt the most on this level is that horrible pouch just above the front of your lady garden, I didnt even realise that was a muscle. If sh can get rid of that I will marry her.

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 14:17:02

You hurt to high heaven at first but your body gets used to it as you go along.

aero I am a 16 (well I was 2 weeks ago) can already squeeze into a 14. I shall be in that 12 before the summer.

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 14:18:46

I hate mountain climbers, moguels, jumping runners and renegade rows ooooh the pain

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 14:20:15

Good on you dita you can do it. I do it religiously when kids at school/bed. Tge six pack DVD is good too, lots of core exercises. I did cut down what I eat but do have the odd treat in the day.

TillyTellTale Thu 06-Mar-14 14:21:21

Oh, fine. I'll start doing the DVD again. I would love to lose a dress size!

I am a bit obsessed with core at the moment, my job involves quite a bit of lifting and the amount of colleagues who have back problems is immense. I read somewhere that your core loses 1% of strength from 40 sinc I turn 40 in a couple of months I thought I would outsmart it.

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 14:22:28

I lost 3 Tilly, I was a waist 34 and am a 30

tilly, do you wear trainers when you do it? I found my ankles hurt when I didnt.

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 14:23:36

I don't I find it harder, I tend to bear foot it

chandellina Thu 06-Mar-14 14:23:54

i love her even though I can't seem to shift the thick layer of almond croissant that covers my body and hides all of her amazing results.

Seriously, I have Shred, Ripped in 30, Killer Buns & Thighs, No more trouble zones, 6 week abs and Yoga Meltdown. Haven't done the yoga one yet but current faves for a quick workout amid my manic children playing are KB&T level 2 and Ripped in 30 level 4. Yee haw.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 14:24:23

She's a goddess grin

I did no more trouble zones this morning and Ripped in 30 wk 3 yesterday.

If you get bored with Jillian try FitnessBlender on you tube, also evil.

TillyTellTale Thu 06-Mar-14 14:25:14

I was doing it in just socks. I couldn't possibly wear my filthy trainers in the house! shockgrin

bluebeanie Thu 06-Mar-14 14:25:53

She is awesome. I have all her dvds, plus a bit of a girl crush.

I had reached a point onlevel one where i could turn her down and put some music on, but very much need the instructions on level 2.

woodrunner Thu 06-Mar-14 14:27:45

YABVU. She is only evil when you are actually doing the shred, although she keeps on grinning when you curse her. When you have showered and changed and can see a difference in your abs after only 3 20 min sessions, she is an angel.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 14:28:02

Truth is chandellina, and I speak as a fellow almond croissant myself, you cannot exercise your way out of bad diet. You have to do food AND watch what you eat.

I'm great at exercise but struggle with the food bit.

OkyDoke Thu 06-Mar-14 14:29:05

Evil, but worth it.

Blogilates on Youtube is a good one too. Cassey is sadistic. But effective.

wasabipeanut Thu 06-Mar-14 14:29:10

She's ace. I started 30 Day shred last October and completed it them moved to Ripoed in 30 which I completed twice - 2nd time doing harder versions. Doing Extreme Shed now. When I did it first I was a bit disappointed because I didn't feel that challenged - I could hardly move next day!

She gets results does Jillian.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 14:29:29

I mean exercise and watch what you eat, doh.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 14:31:01

Is there anyway you can stream Jillian online?

looking forward to putting my work trousers on tonight, they normally cut me in half. Think that is when I will love her. Hoping I can mange a shred tommorow, I did last week when I was on nights but I have to say it took some motivation.

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 14:32:08

She's looking at you through your Tv, she knows when your going to turn it off grin

crazy88 Thu 06-Mar-14 14:35:25

She rules. Best results from combination of no more trouble zones and banish fat boost metabolism, but you need to get up EARLY. I was in the best shape of my life from a few months of those workouts last summer, and I am 36 with 3 kids! I don't exercise after the clocks go back. grin Will start again once they go forward again. That's just logical grin

LJBanana Thu 06-Mar-14 14:35:58

I witnessed her delve with her index finger into someone's naval.
I can't ever un see that.
I makes me heave!

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 14:36:25

I am doing Killer buns and thighs at the moment, I can't do it in one go, so do half in the day and half when kids in bed

crazy88 Thu 06-Mar-14 14:36:25

Lumpy, there are a fair few of her workouts in full on YouTube smile

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 14:49:38

I love killer buns and thighs.

I'll have a root round youtube crazy88, thanks for that. smile

chandellina Thu 06-Mar-14 15:30:19

totally agree Lumpy, but exercise goes down much sweeter when you know there's an almond croissant for breakfast. I work out almost every day (also run a lot) but it's basically just to counterbalance the incoming carbs. smile

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 15:37:09

Know that I am always watching you, rather like a horror movie [evil eye emotion]

Katiepoes Thu 06-Mar-14 15:56:31

I'm intrigued - tell me do you need lots of space to actually do the workout?

Have any of you seen Shaun Michaels T25? shock

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 16:00:08

No not really youndont

TheWomanWithTheMysteriousLump Thu 06-Mar-14 16:04:58

If you've got floor space the size of a single bed you've got enough room to shred. Any less and you'd be pushing it a bit. 6 Week 6 Pack can be done in a slightly smaller space I think, and it's also a bit easier on the knees. But you definitely need trainers. I have a special set of indoor trainers just for Shredding, which are allowed on the carpet.

wasabipeanut Thu 06-Mar-14 16:28:19

She needs to do an arm DVD. We have 6 week 6 pack and Killer buns etc.

How about No More Bingo Wings?

I'd buy it - her workouts have given me great shoulders, better legs and something faintly resembling a 6 pack but my wobbly arms still aren't as I'd like them to be although they're certainly better. I am still some way off the Michelle Obama arm.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 16:30:52

chandellina I'm the same. If I didn't exercise I would be twenty stone. With exercise I'm a toned size 14 with an addiction to Victoria sandwiches. But hey ho. grin

2tiredtocare Thu 06-Mar-14 16:32:22

Try Tracey Anderson arms wasabi that is a killer

TheWomanWithTheMysteriousLump Thu 06-Mar-14 16:35:45

I'm startled that all the planks, press ups and weights haven't sorted your arms out wasabi. Do you just have really really high standards?

getdownshep Thu 06-Mar-14 16:40:35

Can you mix up different workouts or is it best to stick with the same one each day?
I need to tone up more than lose weight, which one would be best?

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 16:46:49

I mix it up getdownshep I try to do Jillian 3 to 4 times a week, different workouts then I do something else the rest of the week, some yoga or Pilates.

getdownshep Thu 06-Mar-14 16:55:47

Thanks lumpy I have Pilates and yoga dvds somewhere, will dig them out.

my long term plan is to mix it up, but I need to actually get all the way through the 30 day shred first, tried a few times before and always given up within a week due to the hurteness of it. If I get to the end (which I will) I am then going to do ripped in 30. I have a weekend away with my friend and then a big birthday in 2 months so want max impact in leats time possible.

wasabipeanut Thu 06-Mar-14 16:59:34

Oooh thanks for recommendation 2tired

Lump - They are better - maybe I'm aiming for the impossible. All the planks and press ups seem to have affected my shoulders and top of my arm but not the undersides.

merrymouse Thu 06-Mar-14 17:00:44

I don't do any of her DVD's but I do listen to her podcast - you should hear her talk about her trainer!

HeirToTheIronThrone Thu 06-Mar-14 17:04:35

Ugh, I hate her more now having put my details in on her website to be told I am borderline obese sad

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 17:05:34

I mix it up or it gets too boring, I also do violet zaki kickboxing, she is very good but much more pleasent than Gillian. Though jillian gets results she can come across as a bit much. I also do 10 min workout DVD, te dance one is good, so is the kickboxing and boot camp, great if you don't have much time.

Merry what does she say about her trainer?

ErrolTheDragon Thu 06-Mar-14 17:06:04

wasabi - I'm adding sets of triceps dips in the hope of sorting out my wings arms.

I have just followed your example, not only did she tell me I am borderline obese but she pointed at me smiling.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 17:10:22

Bob Harper is great too, great. Love a bit of Bob.

merrymouse Thu 06-Mar-14 17:16:30

The back story is that apparently she hates her ass (arse? don't know american spelling), so she wanted to improve it for her 40th birthday and the 'ass man' has been training her and he is really hard core. You would have to listen to the podcast to get the general idea of her feelings but there is swearing. She admits the she is working on her 'ass' for vanity not health and she has not met her goal because she likes food and beer too much.

She also does relationship advice and general self help stuff, but mainly I listen to it because of the exchanges between her and her producer Janice.

Aeroflotgirl Thu 06-Mar-14 17:18:14

Thanks merry smile that's interesting

FrequentFlyerRandomDent Thu 06-Mar-14 17:30:29

Just checked her web site. She would put my on a mere 1141cal a day.

I would faint. I must have ticked some wrong boxes. I am only 10st for 5ft5.

Will check out the exercises though.

wasabipeanut Thu 06-Mar-14 17:35:06

Hi Errol I remember you from the first shred thread I joined! Some triceps dips may be the job - they were on L3 of R30 I think and I did really feel it!

ErrolTheDragon Thu 06-Mar-14 18:30:47

The triceps dips I mean are the sort where you use a bench/stool/chair. If you google you can find a youtube which demonstrates how to do them properly.

BumPotato Thu 06-Mar-14 18:40:46

Oh I must get back together with evil Jillian. I did 50 of her workouts over 2 years and my goodness it worked. There was a great deal of swearing.

BumPotato Thu 06-Mar-14 18:41:14

Over 2 months last year... duh

Samu2 Thu 06-Mar-14 18:52:09

I might be the only one who doesn't rate it highly.

I love charlene extreme. It's a weight and cardio programme (on alternate days) and she makes you lift heavy.

I love doing weights and find the ones needed for the 30 day shred are too light to make much of a difference and not enough reps.

I did it for quite a while and just hurt. Moved on to charlene extreme and saw much better results and it isn't quite as hard either.

Her beach body cardio stuff is really good fun as well.

Botanicbaby Thu 06-Mar-14 19:15:27

heirtotheironthrone you are at same stage as me although not only am I struggling with the press ups, the floor work kills me too.

I do it barefoot in the living room, I don't think you don't need much space at all.

dita how do you know when you're at level 2 or 3? sounds like results are so positive with jillian! here's hoping.

Stripeyshoes Thu 06-Mar-14 19:16:42

Jillian has a new 7 day shred out -2x per day!

I am too chicken to try it though. I am planning the shred again ( great success in the past) after my holiday next week.

Sure she is evil, but I love her anyway!

DayAfterYesterday Thu 06-Mar-14 19:23:18

She is amazing, her work outs really do work and quickly. I have a pretty big crush on Jillian, and serious arm envy

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Thu 06-Mar-14 19:27:02

Oooooo what is this new shred of which you speak!

Sarsaparillajones Thu 06-Mar-14 20:23:25

New shred ? Ooh...... I love shred, and all the other DVDs too. I lost so many inches doing these. Must go and dig them out again.

2tiredtocare Thu 06-Mar-14 20:31:55

What site does she point and call you obese grin
