ISeeYouShiverWithAntici Sat 15-Feb-14 16:13:39

I hope the bollards finally remove all doubt from their minds as to whether they may continue to park there!

flowery Sat 15-Feb-14 16:14:25

WeAreDetective Sat 15-Feb-14 16:14:30

I'm here and I promise I won't link thread to any other thread at all.... smile

Lambzig Sat 15-Feb-14 16:15:11

Thanks for the new thread. It's very boring of me, but I am kind of hoping they all see the bollards and move their cars by 5pm so that you get your land without any hassle. I can't believe the cheek of them to still be parking past your deadline.

OddFodd Sat 15-Feb-14 16:15:23

Yay smile

OddBoots Sat 15-Feb-14 16:15:44

BlackeyedSusan Sat 15-Feb-14 16:15:49

starlightmagic Sat 15-Feb-14 16:16:36

Starlight, just follow the penguins smile

Kippersbigfeet Sat 15-Feb-14 16:17:30

RevoltInParadise Sat 15-Feb-14 16:17:49

Blatantly place marking!

Blatherskite Sat 15-Feb-14 16:18:11

or at least it was before MN removed all the spaces!

petmyunicorn Sat 15-Feb-14 16:18:17

Place marking. Who would have thought I could get so excited about bollards?

There is a 1000-post thread about parking on the Island? <boggles>

Loved the penguin bollards! <<shamelessly marking place>>

Joysmum Sat 15-Feb-14 16:19:01

It has bollards and penguins, what more could a thread need grin

tb Sat 15-Feb-14 16:19:21

'Tis all just a load of bollards - even got DH interested in this story.

Here in deepest darkest wettest SW France, it's 17:19

toastedteacake Sat 15-Feb-14 16:19:22

Is bin lady's car still parked there?

wowfudge Sat 15-Feb-14 16:19:24

Any chance you can record any exchanges with the trespassing tenants on your phone and post them somewhere Mrsd? grin

growingolddicustingly Sat 15-Feb-14 16:19:34

Not marking my place at all. No, no, no............

MyLeftElbow Sat 15-Feb-14 16:21:24

Okay, I watched the other thread from afar, but now I am blatantly marking my place!

Flossiechops Sat 15-Feb-14 16:22:12

Have lurked for ages - shamelessly marking my place grin

Greenkit Sat 15-Feb-14 16:22:18

Pushes to the front

BitWorriedNow Sat 15-Feb-14 16:22:20

QueenofKelsingra Sat 15-Feb-14 16:23:08

hehe, also place marking (now I know how that works!) go the penguins!

EauRouge Sat 15-Feb-14 16:24:00

I'm not even going to pretend that I'm not place marking.

CSIJanner Sat 15-Feb-14 16:24:21

I do love a juicy parking thread grin

GingerBlondecat Sat 15-Feb-14 16:26:25

I am in Australia, and am terrible at working out time zones............... sooo how long is it from now to 5 pm ??

Pheonixisrising Sat 15-Feb-14 16:26:35

No need to place mark - you ought to add the thread to your Watched list.

Not that this post is a placemarker. Oh no.

About 35 mins

CookieLady Sat 15-Feb-14 16:27:40

Delurking to cheer op on.

Dubjackeen Sat 15-Feb-14 16:27:53

Thank you Mrs DC. I lurked a bit on the other one, it's better than a novel!

Morgause Sat 15-Feb-14 16:28:38

Drink, anyone? wine

I think the penguin bollards give a clear black & white message to the tenants. smile.

DaddyPigsMistress Sat 15-Feb-14 16:28:42

Is it sad that this is the highlight of my week?

PsychicPaper Sat 15-Feb-14 16:28:43

Can you add to a watch list on the app?

kappadelta Sat 15-Feb-14 16:29:44

Go op put those piss takers in their place!!

Velma67 Sat 15-Feb-14 16:30:28

Parking controversy is not unknown in the Isle of Wight.

MyLeftElbow Sat 15-Feb-14 16:30:53

You can add threads to your watch list on the app, yes. However they are all muddled up and not in date order which is annoying when you're trying to read them!

MardyBra Sat 15-Feb-14 16:31:13

Thanks to this thread I keep getting penguin bollard adverts all over the net.

I do actually feel a degree of sympathy for the tenants, who really have been duped. Shame a couple of them were utter tosspots though.

VivaLeBeaver Sat 15-Feb-14 16:31:54

Marking place

GingerBlondecat Sat 15-Feb-14 16:32:27

oooohhhh I can wait another 35 mins grin. hey its only 3 AM lol

MardyBra Sat 15-Feb-14 16:33:03

This thread will be full too by 5pm at this rate.

Fingers crossed for you Mrs.

MollyMakesMeWantToDance Sat 15-Feb-14 16:33:14

Marking my place! I thought Ii had commented on the old thread, but they seem to have been sucked away into cyberspace!

Another islander here. I am now desperate to know where you are. I followed your last thread at the beginning - no idea you were a neighbour! shock

Oldraver Sat 15-Feb-14 16:33:52

Mardy I have to keep explaining to OH 'they were links from Mumsnet' when something weird pops up grin

Cuddlydragon Sat 15-Feb-14 16:34:52

Pulls up a chair and hands out brew and cake

BitWorriedNow Sat 15-Feb-14 16:35:30

You can do 4 x * to leave a blank space, rather than place mark with nonsense. making reading the thread easier

crashbangboom Sat 15-Feb-14 16:36:19

Marking place!

Velma67 Sat 15-Feb-14 16:37:34

Ememem84 Sat 15-Feb-14 16:38:01

Place marked

Velma67 Sat 15-Feb-14 16:38:04

Thanks Bitworried. I've often wondered how to do that grin

IneedAsockamnesty Sat 15-Feb-14 16:39:57

ToootSweet Sat 15-Feb-14 16:40:53

bumbleymummy Sat 15-Feb-14 16:41:16

I didn't realise the bollards were going in today. How exciting smile

hootloop Sat 15-Feb-14 16:41:45

I so wish I was a neighbour I want to watch this.

fairyfuckwings Sat 15-Feb-14 16:42:01

So have all 5 cars been there all day? Cheeky buggers!

Pipbin Sat 15-Feb-14 16:42:10

Isn't it sad that there are two pages saying nothing other than we are watching.

Do you know which tenants the cars which are still there belong to, MrsDC?

MarianneEnjolras Sat 15-Feb-14 16:42:54

I thought MNHQ/tech didn't like the blank posts?

MarianneEnjolras Sat 15-Feb-14 16:42:57

I thought MNHQ/tech didn't like the blank posts?

GingerBlondecat Sat 15-Feb-14 16:44:46

Ummm, I just click the button that says 'Watch this Thread' works a treat

BitWorriedNow Sat 15-Feb-14 16:45:09

oh sorry MNHQ!

clairemum22 Sat 15-Feb-14 16:46:23

Place marking!

<no, I'm not marking my place. No, not me>

AngelsWithSilverWings Sat 15-Feb-14 16:46:39

I've been following this thread , and the original one about the landlord renting out OP's parking space to his tenants since the start without ever posting.

Can't sit on my hands any longer as I need to know what happens next!

Pollydon Sat 15-Feb-14 16:48:23

Ooh, < parks arse on sofa to wait>

Kippersbigfeet Sat 15-Feb-14 16:52:38

10 minutes to go

BoreOfWhabylon Sat 15-Feb-14 16:54:16

Well done OP, you're well high tech now. flowers
Opens wine

JackNoneReacher Sat 15-Feb-14 16:54:39

ooooh!!! watching this thread...

Farrowandbawl Sat 15-Feb-14 16:55:27

So if everyone has parked their cars in this space wouldn't that mean they are in, so would notice the bollards going up before 5?

Or are the bollards going up at 5pm?

Greenkit Sat 15-Feb-14 16:56:00

5 mins

Doha Sat 15-Feb-14 16:56:39

clockwatching and countimg down till 5pm--4 mins to go grin

TalkinPeace Sat 15-Feb-14 16:57:38

pictures of penguins will be needed

petalsandstars Sat 15-Feb-14 16:57:41

K think they've been installed around the cars and they will be raised at 5pm so at the moment they are flat to the ground

tb Sat 15-Feb-14 16:58:20

Just imagining a load of mumsnetters arriving with folding chairs, knitting, wine and cake to dig themselves in for the long haul.

Farrowandbawl Sat 15-Feb-14 16:59:29

Ah, thank you Petal.

So not one person has come out when they were being installed then? Even with all the noise around the cars?

GhostsInSnow Sat 15-Feb-14 16:59:34

Shameless place mark.

Times up!

AliceinWinterWonderland Sat 15-Feb-14 17:00:29

And so it begins...... grin

Time's up hmm

CouthyMow Sat 15-Feb-14 17:00:44

Hippymama Sat 15-Feb-14 17:01:28

It's 5pm! I'm beyond excited <needs to get out more>

Lj8893 Sat 15-Feb-14 17:02:52

I am way too excited.

Bollards will be raising as we type grin

RaptorInaPorkPieHat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:03:46

shamelessly parking up grin

Pipbin Sat 15-Feb-14 17:03:54

It is officially 5pm!

Jux Sat 15-Feb-14 17:04:51

Oh good, I'm in time for the denouement (dh dragged me out in the rain when the denouement of the horses was happening, grrrrr)!

Hope it all gors smoothly and your bollards and nice and perky!

Parking up too

SerotoninCanEatTomorrow Sat 15-Feb-14 17:09:22

F5 f5 f5 <impatient> and bumping and place marking

KhloeKardashian Sat 15-Feb-14 17:09:57

I hope it was the T from the first thread and the T who was stroppy about the bin, who have not moved their cars.

Frogbyanothername Sat 15-Feb-14 17:10:07

Looks like the response will be swift and decisive - the army have arrived on the IoW!!!!

sebsmummy1 Sat 15-Feb-14 17:10:08

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 17:12:11

Bollards are raised still 3 cars parked in park area but OH and BIL
have just put letters with flat numbers through main doors just saying all cars must be moved by Sunday at latest and that people will have to knock on our door to be let out. Then OH rang the doorbell and RAN
so far no-one has knocked on door so we shall see what happens

Anyway no-one can get in our out now we have emailed the Landlords letting agent telling them we are holding them personally responsible if any cars are still there on Monday and will be taking legal action so they need to be help sort it.

To those who asked we are in Ryde but there are no penguins (yet)

southeastastra Sat 15-Feb-14 17:13:48

only followed this briefly but where will they park instead? did you need the extra land?

Hope your new land is nice and high OP!

Pipbin Sat 15-Feb-14 17:14:31

As the shilling shockers say, we anticipate.

Ooooh this is going to get me through my 12 hour shift tonight smile

BlackeyedSusan Sat 15-Feb-14 17:15:59

laughed at the image of your dh running away! well done mr caruso

Mrsdavid, hopefully they're just out for the day and forgot there was no more parking, and they'll be all apologetic <grasps at straws>

Lj8893 Sat 15-Feb-14 17:16:56

I hope they are suitably embarrassed when they come knocking on your door!

Thing is, SEA, a couple of them have been real arses about the whole matter. Had they been reasonable, I'm sure OP could have come to an arrangement with them.

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 17:16:59

Frog just read that!!!!

southeast - they can park on roads around the area

Twelve - we have had flooding around here but not too bad at the moment

KhloeKardashian Sat 15-Feb-14 17:17:05

It ticked my fancy your DH running too.

They are a determined lot remaining in the parking spaces like that.

sebsmummy1 Sat 15-Feb-14 17:17:54

Ha ha I love the people who are going to join this new thread fresh, all wide eyed and blinking with concern as to where the flat residents will park grin

KhloeKardashian Sat 15-Feb-14 17:18:06

I can just see OP, with her remote control when they come a knocking.

Cantabile Sat 15-Feb-14 17:18:21

He's a brave man that Mr Caruso!

Hope they are all utterly shamefaced and apologetic when they do want to get their cars out.

GingerBlondecat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:18:29

is Bin lady one of the cars in there ? grin

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 17:18:56

Blackeyed yes made me laugh as well

prettybird Sat 15-Feb-14 17:18:57

marking space, oh no not me grin

KhloeKardashian Sat 15-Feb-14 17:19:22

Bin lady and the ones from the first thread will get the rage, you got one over on the lot of them there OP.

Greenkit Sat 15-Feb-14 17:19:58

Ha well they will be shocked when they come to move their cars and cant get out grin

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 17:20:24

Ginger yep bin ladys little red car is one of the ones parked there

will give more updates when I have it

BlackeyedSusan Sat 15-Feb-14 17:20:29

which cas are left. awkward d tenents or nice tenents? (though they arre now awkard if they have left their cars there!)

Morgause Sat 15-Feb-14 17:20:45

<bangs tambourine in jubilation>

I hope it's going to be peaceful. Doesn't look like they want to shift

sebsmummy1 Sat 15-Feb-14 17:21:36

If only you had invested in those stickier than sticky impossible to get off no parking stickers and plastered their windows with them. Oh the joy of watching then trying to remove those bastards yep been there myself

GingerBlondecat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:22:31

Alas, I must bin goodnight to all for a few hrs. ten to 4 am here,

Will be checking in this first thing, ..............after my coffee wink

GL mrs

GingerBlondecat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:23:03

bin = Bid

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Sat 15-Feb-14 17:23:38

Wouldn't it be dreadful if you couldn't find the remote control thing for aaaages when they come to ask to be let out and they had to wait outside in the cold while you searched and searched and searched...

Sorry - couldn't resist. I've never known how to do it!

HavantGuard Sat 15-Feb-14 17:24:43

To my mind they've revolutionised flexible parking.

Velma67 Sat 15-Feb-14 17:24:46

Is anyone else imagining MrsDavidCaruso's DH posting the notes with shades on and one hand on his hip. Or do I watch to much CSI? grin

GiraffesAndButterflies Sat 15-Feb-14 17:24:52

Yay bin lady got blocked in. Poetic justice grin

Also it pleases me that Fuckyouchris got the last post on the first penguin bollard thread. You two are owning Mumsnet this weekend gringrin

Lambzig Sat 15-Feb-14 17:25:51

Good for you. Bin lady is going to get the rage.

KhloeKardashian Sat 15-Feb-14 17:25:54

say bin womans words back at her

Ememem84 Sat 15-Feb-14 17:26:18

I cannot believe you actually did it. Good work. Very proud.

Doha Sat 15-Feb-14 17:26:39

Just go out for the night and then all day tomorrow.
I think they will keep them parked there until needed on Monday morning---they are taking the piss and l bet they didn't expect the bollards to go up.
Fancy going on holiday tomorrow morning for a week or two???

kelper Sat 15-Feb-14 17:26:59

Am I the only one secretly hoping bin lady doesn't notice the bollard and reverses into it?.......

talulahbelle Sat 15-Feb-14 17:27:12

Wish I could see their faces...!

Ememem84 Sat 15-Feb-14 17:27:15

Yes. Do it. Holiday time!!!

OddFodd Sat 15-Feb-14 17:27:51

I love the image of your DH posting the note through the letterbox, ringing the bell and then running away grin

Groovee Sat 15-Feb-14 17:28:17

Look forward to hearing that all cars are gone tomorrow.

Groovee Sat 15-Feb-14 17:28:39

KayleeFrye Sat 15-Feb-14 17:28:56

please may we have photos?

MarjoryStewartBaxter Sat 15-Feb-14 17:30:15

Go MrsDC, go! I am going to be glued to this thread all evening...

Seminyak Sat 15-Feb-14 17:31:34

Are FuckYouChris and MrsDavidCaruso the same person? I'm assuming they're both to do with the same property, what with the same characters featuring - BinLady, tenants, BIL etc? Sorry for being behind!!

hamptoncourt Sat 15-Feb-14 17:33:37

So glad bin ladys car is left behind. Riveted!

Bollards sound like the best idea - and it will serve the shut-in people right for leaving their cars on your land!

Sandiacre Sat 15-Feb-14 17:34:05

This is the most exciting thing to happen in Ryde ever.

It's my home town.

Doha Sat 15-Feb-14 17:34:08

Oh and if you have a doorbell--disconnect at 8pm otherwise they might just ring it non stop and some ridiculous hour just to wind you up.

PoorOldCat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:36:14

I am wondering if bin lady might bring the police.

Jux Sat 15-Feb-14 17:37:04

Oh somebody PLEASE tell me how do those no post posts! Please please please thanks

Frogbyanothername Sat 15-Feb-14 17:37:36

It'll be talked about for months...years, even!

BlackeyedSusan Sat 15-Feb-14 17:38:04

the computer is running slow but now it is responding again and not taking five minutes to post, I am rubbing my hands in glee at the thought of bin lady's head revolving and exploding!

Doha Sat 15-Feb-14 17:38:23

Don't think police would be interested-they have better things to do with their time, like drinking cups of tea....

Giraffes, couldn't resist.

Semin, I'm a very different person in a very different place smile

JackNoneReacher Sat 15-Feb-14 17:39:51

Wouldn't be surprised if binlady rings the police poor but she wont get much joy. What will she say??

Binlady "I've parked my car on someones private drive and now I can't get it out."

They'll laugh.

Morgause Sat 15-Feb-14 17:39:58

If she does call the police she'll get a flea in her ear when they're told she only had to knock the door and ask for the bollards to come down so she could move.

Jux Sat 15-Feb-14 17:41:10

Pooroldcat, I wondered that too. Anyone got any idea of what the legal position is?

TalkinPeace Sat 15-Feb-14 17:41:28

to do a blank post, type ****

PoorOldCat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:41:43

I know. I just wouldn't be surprised, that's all. She sounds the apoplectic type.

Jux it used to be double bracket, then enter, then close brackets but that doesn't seem to work for me any more.

PoorOldCat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:42:22

Jux Sat 15-Feb-14 17:42:30

blush x-post

PoorOldCat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:42:39

Oh cool! Wonder why they changed it.

PoorOldCat Sat 15-Feb-14 17:43:45

So how do you type four asterisks then?

MollyMakesMeWantToDance Sat 15-Feb-14 17:44:07

Make sure you set a time limit on when they can knock i.e - not between the hours of 8pm and 8am.

No doubt you will get some wanker with an agenda thinking that a desperate need for his car at 1am is rather clever.

Oldraver Sat 15-Feb-14 17:44:19

I also wondered if stroppy knickers bin lady would call the police. I would love to hear that conversation, about how she explains that she consistently, has parked on land where she's been told not to park and has had warning letters that she isnt allowed to park there

Yes they will laugh at her....

wowfudge Sat 15-Feb-14 17:44:28

They've had plenty of warning and now MrsD is protecting her property. Bin lady and the other two are either bruising for a fight or thinking they will call the formidable MrsD's bluff....... Remote controls at dawn!

TalkinPeace Sat 15-Feb-14 17:44:33

The Carusos have been squeaky clean on the legal side and correspondence etc .... the police will take their side

TalkinPeace Sat 15-Feb-14 17:45:41

I put them in italics, and then it stopped realising what they were
**** works too

Clutterbugsmum Sat 15-Feb-14 17:46:22

I should think the worst that the police would do is ask OP to let Bin lady car out, which OP would do anyway.

I mean Bin lady going to have to explain even after 3 weeks notice make sure that her car was not parked on OP property after the 14/2/14, she ignored this.

No one's at fault other then the car owners who didn't make sure that their car were removed from OP property.

NotAnotherPackedLunchBox Sat 15-Feb-14 17:46:31

YoureAllABunchOfBastards Sat 15-Feb-14 17:47:34

Only found this thread today and so glad I did.

tb Sat 15-Feb-14 17:47:35

Mrsdavid could always ring the police and say that someone seems to have abandoned their car(s) on their land.......

That would be quite interesting when the car tower/crusher arrives....

pinkstinks Sat 15-Feb-14 17:48:25

So many adverts for penguin bollards on every internet page.... From just one click!!

wowfudge Sat 15-Feb-14 17:49:11

Ooooh - now tb, there's a thought! grin

Lottiedoubtie Sat 15-Feb-14 17:49:11

Just caught up with this thread(s) am shock at how it's all developed!

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 17:49:19

Nothing to report yet - no I am not fuckyouchris - is there a link to that thread

Pipbin Sat 15-Feb-14 17:49:42

What I love most about this is that now bin lady has no option but to knock on op's door and ask for her car to be released.

Morgause Sat 15-Feb-14 17:51:15

minesapackofminstrels Sat 15-Feb-14 17:51:34

Morgause Sat 15-Feb-14 17:52:41

OO, it works. <beams>

I can just imagine bin lady thinking, "Screw you, I'll park where I want!"

And then looking out of the window .......

<rubs hands with glee>

Here's a link OP, but be warned, there's 3 of those threads!

ThePearShapedToad Sat 15-Feb-14 17:57:30

Oh bravo op

Well done to you and your dh for standing your ground. Here's a brew for you

Marking my spot to see if Bin lady is still parked and will come round and kick off at any time now. grin

They haven't a leg to tend on though, have they?

TalkinPeace Sat 15-Feb-14 18:02:56

no, but they could stand on the bollard grin

PedantMarina Sat 15-Feb-14 18:03:49

That said, those three horse freds were some of the most fun I've had on Mumsnet. And that's swearin'.

EndoplasmicReticulum Sat 15-Feb-14 18:04:21

Oh, I didn't realise they were IOW bollards. I'll have to come and see the penguins next time I'm visiting. (I'm a caulkhead but I don't live there any more).

AnneEyhtMeyer Sat 15-Feb-14 18:10:35

Will they be able to park in front of the bollards but still on your land? I wouldn't be surprised if bin lady tries this.

goodasitgets Sat 15-Feb-14 18:13:05

Lurking as I have parking issues and remote control bollards sound just the job wink

AntlersInAllOfMyDecorating Sat 15-Feb-14 18:19:38

Partially there anyway if some spaces are free!

EndoplasmicReticulum Sat 15-Feb-14 18:21:43

IOWers can be a bit crazy about parking, in my experience. We had problems with a lady opposite when I was growing up, her son ran a car-selling business from home so his "stock" was parked all over the place, complete with people coming to buy it, blocking everyone in etc.

My dad went to discuss it with her one day and she hit him around the head with a garden spade!

However he invoked the power of "islanders all knowing everyone" and got a mate at the council to sort it in our favour. Lady opposite was not native.

tb Sat 15-Feb-14 18:22:00

Endo is that a bit like "M&S bollards" ie a super-refined type of bollard?

EndoplasmicReticulum Sat 15-Feb-14 18:22:31

tb they probably have layers of multi-coloured sand in them.

eddielizzard Sat 15-Feb-14 18:31:56

RandomMess Sat 15-Feb-14 18:37:04

Jux Sat 15-Feb-14 18:37:05

MrsDavid, I like the idea that you call the police and tell them of the abandoned cars. BinLady, is not going to let you 'take her space' (hmm huh) without a fight.

hamptoncourt Sat 15-Feb-14 18:41:19

I also suspect you will end up with having your door knocked at 2am or similar. Do you have earplugs OP?

If I were you I would maybe call the police and explain you are about to go on 2 weeks hollipops and see if they call round to get bin lady et al to remove their cards before you "go?"

I would be so tempted to actually really go away!!!

ZenNudist Sat 15-Feb-14 18:44:00

So wishing you'd go out for the night. I have a rude neighbour who parks on our shared access drive so I share your pain.

karatekimmi Sat 15-Feb-14 18:52:18

I'd go out for a few days, maybe a house swap with a mner who doesn't know where the bollard key is?

agedknees Sat 15-Feb-14 18:53:39

All hail to mrsdavidcaruso, queen of the parking threads. I salute you.

YoniMatopoeia Sat 15-Feb-14 18:54:10

How did I miss this before today.?

Can't wait for updates.

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 18:56:07

One car has gone OH had gone out for a takeout for us and BIL and SIL.

There was a knock on the door and BIL went out with the doodah thingy and let someone out - it was a male tenant with a black car so not bin lady.

Anyway we have having a bit of a party, fish and chips and the Voice
is the order of the night now

Doha Sat 15-Feb-14 18:58:08

Right one down 2 to go. Would put money on it the bin lady is going to drag this out..

Hurray, mrs David, hope the others will be gone very soon smile it's a day of good things happening.

enriquetheringbearinglizard Sat 15-Feb-14 19:24:23

Just to think all this could've been so different if the rogue parkers, once they knew they were rogue, had said they were sorry they'd been mislead etc etc

Enjoy your home party OP.

Bet bin lady will ensure she has had a drink tonight and cannot move her car etc etc.

I've followed your thread MrsD but didn't have much to input. Hope it all gets sorted for good by tomorrow, you don't need this stress. flowers

Yup, Enrique, if these people weren't rude and intrusive you wouldn't need to find a way to protect yourself from them.

MrsD, hope you don't get too much stress from bin lady I'm not marking my spot, oh no!

OMG only just found this thread today!
You are my hero!

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking Sat 15-Feb-14 19:40:09

I have abandoned my family to read both threads grin Bin woman is not going to be happy to have to come with her tail between her legs and ask to be let out.

Debs75 Sat 15-Feb-14 19:43:35

Can't believe the cheek of them to still stay parked whilst you put bollards in.
I think a couple of days away Sunday Monday is in order. Bin lady will just keep her car there as she won't need it till Monday for work when she will just come and ask for it to be let out. If she asks now she will be defeated. If you go away when she needs it she will be defeated and stranded

MarjoryStewartBaxter Sat 15-Feb-14 19:43:54

Please can you all stand outside and do the "smile and wave" as Bin woman angrily pulls away?

MarvellousMechanicalMouseOrgan Sat 15-Feb-14 19:51:45

So, there's no way that they can park outside the bollards and still block you in is there?

PedantMarina Sat 15-Feb-14 20:25:24

DP and I used to play the CSI Miami drinking game. You have to have a drink any time DC:

- Puts his hands on his hips
- Reassures a child "we'll catch the guy who killed your parents"
- Reads a line [off a cue card, did everybody else notice that stupid eye-roll thing he did?] that, by rights should have been said by somebody else (typically the coroner).
- Slips his sunglasses down or off, in order to look significant.

We had to stop after a while because CSI:M was on a weeknight.

I liked him in Hudson Hawk, though.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Sat 15-Feb-14 20:27:06

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 20:35:10

RustyBear Sat 15-Feb-14 20:40:21

Bin lady will probably knock at 1 am....

Is it just me that has an advert for a penguin bollard over there --> ?

Fairenuff Sat 15-Feb-14 20:42:45

I also think she will knock at some awful hour just to cause you the most inconvenience she can OP.

isisisis Sat 15-Feb-14 20:54:54

SadFreak Sat 15-Feb-14 21:13:05

I reckon bin lady isn't planning on using her car all weekend in a bid to piss you off. I bet she knocks at 7am or earlier on Monday morning when she needs to get to work.

birdmomma Sat 15-Feb-14 21:16:02

I also have an advert for a penguin bollard on my right now. Tee hee.

enriquetheringbearinglizard Sat 15-Feb-14 21:19:18

isisisis no, I never have worked in advertising, but I'd like to. I'm currently wanting to style bin woman's wheelie with a sticky back plastic mini cooper decal grin

and paint double yellows round it

Shamelessly marking my place

starfishmummy Sat 15-Feb-14 21:38:21

Pedant we didn't do it with drinks but dh and I would play a little game to see how many of his stock poses dc did before the opening credits rolled!

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 21:41:57

No movement from any of the parked cars but the owner of one of the cars that had not been there when we raised the bollards came to our front door shouting the odds - when I looked out the window I saw he was the partner of the woman who had caused all the problems in the first place with the 'extra parking space'

Anyway he had a right go shouting and swearing DH told him to go away
as he was scaring his DS (DS was actually fast asleep) and he was going to call the police. So the guy left, not sure where his car is parked though
but its not on my land so don't really care

AntlersInAllOfMyDecorating Sat 15-Feb-14 21:46:20

So they both had cars there? I thought they couldn't have two spaces anymore?

Pipbin Sat 15-Feb-14 21:46:54

How scary and nasty. What does he think the police will do? You have asked him to stop parking on your land. He hasn't got a leg to stand on.

What's going on??? i'm an islander and in need of some excitement!!

This is the thread that keeps giving. It's great to read but I imagine it's quite worrying being there so I hope you're ok op.

oh I hope he does call the police, Mrsdc

Would love to see him with egg all over face

BinkieWoo Sat 15-Feb-14 21:50:35

I read that as MrDC was going to call the police if the man carried on shouting at him. I may be wrong though.

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 21:51:08

Antler they only had 2 for a while when she thought she could park outside my house when that got sorted she moved it - although sometimes she would park in her partners space

I spose the thing is that they realise now they've been taken for mugs, & they're clearly the kind of people that should never happen to hmm so it has to be somebody else's fault & they're taking it out on you.

But I'm sure they're smart enough to realise that any threatening behaviour or criminal damage will cause them trouble in the long run

Sit tight

CaffeinatedKitten Sat 15-Feb-14 21:53:04

I am delurking, firstly to say I need penguin bollards in my life, and secondly to say I think you've been way more tactful than I ever could have been in a similar position. Enjoy the chipsgrin

southeastastra Sat 15-Feb-14 21:54:42

all this fuss over parking. i sort of feel sorry for them though weren't they told they had parking spaces when they took the lease.

i dunno

i do like ryde though, is the funny dr who shop still there?

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 21:54:51

Binkie yes DH was going to call the police as he was really shouting

Fairenuff Sat 15-Feb-14 21:54:56

I would phone the police anyway OP on their non-emergency number and let them know that you have had a neighbour spout abuse at you on your doorstep.

At least then, if you need to phone again, it will have been flagged up already. I also think cctv might be a good idea.

Mrsdavidcaruso Sat 15-Feb-14 21:56:12

South yes it is I used to volunteer in the RSPCA shop next door and we go to the Catholic Church just up from there

Pipbin Sat 15-Feb-14 21:56:44

Oh yes, I think you are right, Binkie, and it was OP's DH that was going to call the police.

Is it wrong to be secretly hoping bin woman sees this thread and comes on here?

AngelaDaviesHair Sat 15-Feb-14 21:57:40

They can swear all they like, there's no arguing with a bollard. Heh heh.

AntlersInAllOfMyDecorating Sat 15-Feb-14 21:58:11

That's what I thought, so there would not be a space fo him anyway if partner is there.

southeastastra Sat 15-Feb-14 22:00:02

i'm glad the dr who shop is still there!

inabeautifulplace Sat 15-Feb-14 22:00:38

Seriously, you have to engage with their landlord. Those people are all paying for something that you have taken away from them. Without the landlord involved, you are the person they will blame, which isn't fair since it wasn't you that deceived them.

hamptoncourt Sat 15-Feb-14 22:00:44

I agree with fairenuff, have been thinking the same thing. OP you could maybe have a word with the police to put them in the picture and explain that things may get nasty/have already got nasty.

Peekingduck Sat 15-Feb-14 22:04:23

"Seriously, you have to engage with their landlord. Those people are all paying for something that you have taken away from them. Without the landlord involved, you are the person they will blame, which isn't fair since it wasn't you that deceived them."
This was all dealt with in advance. The letting agent gave them notice to vacate the spaces and has dealt with the issue.
Fingers crossed there isn't too much aggro, you don't need it Op.

OddFodd Sat 15-Feb-14 22:04:34

I would feel sorry for them SEA if they weren't being horrible and abusive to the OP.

And I suspect that if they hadn't been such utter gits to her in the first place, she may not have even bought the land. You reap what you sow and all that ...

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Sat 15-Feb-14 22:06:48

inabeautifulplace Sat 15-Feb-14 22:45:41

"Actually OP hasn't taken anything off anyone."
Incorrect. OP has, perfectly legitimately, bought land which the tenants are paying to have the use of. Ergo, the tenants have lost something. Quite rightly, they are annoyed.

LL has sold his tenants something that wasn't even his to begin with.
Correct. All I am saying is that the OP should do everything possible to re-engage the LL. Is it just me thinking that the tenants are going to focus their anger on someone, and that needs to be the landlord? Seems to me that he's having a stress free time at the moment, whilst the OP is not.

Fairenuff Sat 15-Feb-14 22:47:11

She has done everything possible to re-engage the LL. Did you not read the thread?

mistlethrush Sat 15-Feb-14 22:50:46

MrsD (I'm just back from a concert so missed all the excitement earlier on, sorry!) - I hope you have a peaceful evening - please take care and don't do too much! Very glad that DH is there and BiL is also helping out.

Pipbin Sat 15-Feb-14 22:53:26

But many Landlords are absent. You can write, email and phone all you like but they won't talk to you.

Anyway this has all been dealt with through solicitors, the tenants have had plenty of warning and there is nothing more to be said by them.

QOD Sat 15-Feb-14 22:54:40

Ooh wedge wedge into the thread

Silly, it's easy, you want this one NOT MY HOUSE I hasten to add

CouthyMow Sat 15-Feb-14 23:24:58

Why is it the OP's problem that the LL has sold his tenants something that wasn't his to sell?!

Surely, as tenants (being one myself, albeit a HA tenant), if I have an issue with the LL, I take that up with my LL, rather than my neighbours?!

As these people seem intent on taking that out on the OP, I would hazard a guess that either the LL ignores them as well as the OP, or they are just cunts. Especially bin lady...

lurked rather than posted on previous threads...

IHaveSeenMyHat Sat 15-Feb-14 23:30:48

EduCated Sun 16-Feb-14 00:50:03

wowfudge Sun 16-Feb-14 08:34:46

Here's to finding out the denouement with Bin Lady today. <rubs hands together with glee>

Just had a read of the last couple of pages here and I have read the whole original thread. Does anyone think that some of the tenants might be under the misapprehension that Mr and Mrsdavid are the LL and not just the neighbours? This might explain why despite plenty of warning they still haven't moved their cars. Or perhaps they are just arses (rhetorical question in case of Bin 'Lady').

RudolphtheRedknowsraindear Sun 16-Feb-14 08:52:59

I think I'd let the local PCSO/police know of your concerns. A police car round at your house can do wonders for helping people see sense & stop all the abuse they've been subjecting you to.
Also, the LL has been shabby, both to his tenants and to you: leaving his mess on your doorstep. Could you not suggest joining forces with Bin Lady & co to bring him to account? It might help her to redirect her misplaced anger at the right person!
Hope things settle down quickly for you thanks

birdmomma Sun 16-Feb-14 08:56:29

Seriously, I am being followed by penguin bollards all over the internet now. There are adverts for bloody penguin bollards on every website I go to.

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking Sun 16-Feb-14 09:01:42

birdmomma Me too They are EVERYWHERE grin

OddFodd Sun 16-Feb-14 09:02:51

No, I don't think so, wow. I think they've treated mrsdc like an ineffectual irritant since this whole thing began and thought they could bully her into backing down. Or their ll has continued to bullshit them and assured them he'd sort it out when there's no way he could because the land doesn't belong to him

wowfudge Sun 16-Feb-14 09:08:28

Odd I see where you are coming from. Just thinking that with managing agents involved, as the LA seem to be, the tenants may not even know who the LL is. It's probably in a company name not that of an individual anyway. But yes, LL is probably just wrong and full of BS.

minibmw2010 Sun 16-Feb-14 09:19:51

From memory the LL came around quite a bit In the original post and the tenants and OP all know who it is, how to contact, etc. The OP and her DH have given the LL and tenants plenty of notice that this was happening. If the LL is missing in action now it's only because he's avoiding his tenants !! smile

sashh Sun 16-Feb-14 09:22:54

She has told the LL.
She has sent solicitor's letters to the LL.
She has been to the letting agency and they have contacted the LL.
All the tenants have had a letter from her solicitor at her expense telling them she owns the land and giving them 3 weeks notice that she is installing bollards and they will come in to operation 5pm 15/02/14.

What else do you expect her to do?

FobblyWoof Sun 16-Feb-14 09:29:54

Glad it's gone well so far.

Marking place to see what bin lady does today smile

EauRouge Sun 16-Feb-14 09:31:32

She probably should have hired a barber shop quartet to go and sing to the tenants a song about parking entitlement, piss-taking landlords and penguin bollards.

Please do that, OP.

Sparklymommy Sun 16-Feb-14 09:34:00

I wonder if bin lady is so bloody minded that she will just go out and buy a new car and leave that one there for ever.

Morgause Sun 16-Feb-14 09:54:28

<brings in marching band>

MollyMakesMeWantToDance Sun 16-Feb-14 09:56:54

Nipped by for an update. Can't believe the gall of the shouty man. What is it with these people?

Hopefully no one woke you overnight Mrs DC. Any news from bin lady?

HugAndRoll Sun 16-Feb-14 10:00:42

I wonder if bin lady has spontaneously combusted taking the flats with her. mrsdc could end up with a huge garden grin.

In all seriousness I can't get over how stubborn and brazen the tenants are being.

WeAreDetective Sun 16-Feb-14 10:01:17

Looking forward to the update!

Ememem84 Sun 16-Feb-14 10:09:22

Wake up op!!!

I'm looking for ways to stop eejits parking in my space. Penguin bollards it is!

schlurplethepurple Sun 16-Feb-14 10:10:18

not place marking oh no

What exactly was Mr HisandHers Parking Spaces shouting about last night? Considering he got a letter informing them he's got a cheek!!!! smile

De-lurking, waiting for an update and also being followed around the Internet by adverts for penguin bollards!!

Morgause Sun 16-Feb-14 10:28:17

<is not being followed by ads because she cleared cookies>

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken Sun 16-Feb-14 10:38:51

Wait, so are the penguin bollards not happening now?

RandomMess Sun 16-Feb-14 10:42:13

Are you not installing any Penguin bollards at all, not even one sad

Mrsdavidcaruso Sun 16-Feb-14 10:49:09

Hi need to explain about the penguin bollards I am getting some but not for the parking they are going into my garden instead of garden ornaments. The ones for the parking are ones that can be lowered and raised by remote control.

Anyway is 10.47 and we are getting ready to go to the garden centre and then out for sunday lunch - 2 cars are still there inc the red one.

So we shall wait and see what happens nothing can be moved whilst we are out.

TidyDancer Sun 16-Feb-14 10:52:37

I really would consider getting cameras installed. I wouldn't put it past bin lady to try vandalising the bollards at some point.

RandomMess Sun 16-Feb-14 10:55:30

Yeah - can we have photos of the Penguins at a later date grin?

Enjoy your peaceful day. Mad bin lady knows for sure that her car is blocked in and is still refusing to speak to you - her loss!

iheartdusty Sun 16-Feb-14 10:55:58

have a lovely relaxing day out. Don't hurry back wink

hamptoncourt Sun 16-Feb-14 10:58:28

Can bin woman see you from her flat? Could you very noisily pack several (empty) suitcases into the car, singing "We're all going on a summer holiday" at the tops of your voices?

isisisis Sun 16-Feb-14 10:58:40

Hope it's a very loooooooong leisurely lunch MrsDC

mateysmum Sun 16-Feb-14 11:01:47

I just think it is very inconsiderate of Bin Lady to have a Sunday morning lie in when we are all here waiting for an update so now Mrs Caruso is off out and we will have to wait ages for an update taps fingers impatiently on desk.

Fouette Sun 16-Feb-14 11:02:09

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken Sun 16-Feb-14 11:04:45

Expensive garden ornaments! shock

Morgause Sun 16-Feb-14 11:05:05

<loves summer holiday singing>

Can't you just park round the corner and watch, OP? Please don't linger over lunch.

Ememem84 Sun 16-Feb-14 11:07:37

Oooh make sure you have one if those "we were there all afternoon the staff turned the lights off and asked us to leave" Sunday lunches.

MerryWinterfel Sun 16-Feb-14 11:08:54

Damnautocorrect Sun 16-Feb-14 11:12:01

Bloody hell on what planet does shouty man think he has a right to be shouty when all the communication states that sadly they are in the wrong and it's mr landlord who needs to be shouted at

Marrow Sun 16-Feb-14 11:13:51

I'm wondering if Bin Lady has maybe gone away for the weekend. Enjoy your (long) lunch OP.

Oldraver Sun 16-Feb-14 11:16:54

I would be tempted to take a photo of the cars in situ just in case someone mad bin lady takes it upon themselves to try and get out while your not there

Could the car owners be away for the weekend? on a walking holiday, obviously
Can't believe the cheek of shouty man, I agree you should report the incident on 101.

Sallyingforth Sun 16-Feb-14 11:55:00

Certainly OP you need to take pictures of the cars and bollards in case there is damage.
Also you should be prepared for the car owner/s to knock on your door very early in the morning just to be bloody awkward.

WeAllHaveWings Sun 16-Feb-14 11:56:05

I would put the bollards down while you are out, that means the cars can be removed and the bollards raised when you get back and are available to let them out if still there. I can see bin lady isn't the nicest, but thnk doing this would make you the bigger person.

The main thing is that the cars are moved, if this can be done without further confrontation surely that is better.

Weallhavewings if she leaves the bollards down whole ages out that would also allow cars back in though?! OP could come back to find a worse problem!!

OddFodd Sun 16-Feb-14 12:04:55

But they've had plenty of warning WeAll. And chosen to ignore each and every one. What if the cars are still there when mrsdc gets back? Everything gets very messy - I can see some of them asking if they can park there when the OP goes out on future occasions.

This is much cleaner.

EduCated Sun 16-Feb-14 12:06:40

Yeah, I think it's reached the point where you have to be absolutely hard line on this.

AlpacaLypse Sun 16-Feb-14 12:11:42

Blatherskite Sun 16-Feb-14 12:12:12

I can imagine the op coming back to more cars not less if she leaves the bollards down while out!

Mr Shouty is entitled enough to think he can yell at them for daring to stop him parking his car on land that does not belong to him. I'm sure he'd have no qualms about parking up there and making himself a nuisance if given the chance

AlpacaLypse Sun 16-Feb-14 12:12:51

Squeeeeee! I've so missed blank posting! Thank you thank you thank you...

Farrowandbawl Sun 16-Feb-14 12:14:18

I can see him parking over the bollards themselves to be honest.

Once the cars are out they need to stay out, so having the bollards down, unless the owners (the op) themselves are going in or out, will cause no end of trouble.

Jux Sun 16-Feb-14 12:15:17

Warn the police that there could be trouble. It just covers your back.

Hope you have a lovely Sunday and don't get disturbed in the evening either (or early morning!).

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken Sun 16-Feb-14 12:18:09

We used to have bollards at the place I rented that you put up with a key. People would just drive over them angry don't be surprised if they do this if you leave them parked there while you go out

FutTheShuckUp Sun 16-Feb-14 12:19:45

I'm confused how anyone can drive over bollards? Are they not like solid pillars?

Farrowandbawl Sun 16-Feb-14 12:21:19

If the bollards are collapseable like the OP, when they are down you can drive over them and park over them if down long enough.

I think you are thinking of the solid concrete ones Fut.

Fifyfomum Sun 16-Feb-14 12:21:57

I'm glad you've gone out for the day. I imagine it will be Monday morning before all the cars have gone. I would see if DH can go to work a bit earlier on Monday and then just hide in the house until 10am and make them late for work before attending to something in the garden so they know you are up.

But I'm a bit mean like that.

whois Sun 16-Feb-14 12:22:24

I'm confused how anyone can drive over bollards? Are they not like solid pillars?

Yeah wouldn't this really damage the car? Unless you had a massive pick up type monster with bars on the front?

whois Sun 16-Feb-14 12:23:17

If the bollards are collapseable like the OP, when they are down

Oh right x post. Well yeah obvs, so you just never leave them down.

Normalisavariantofcrazy Sun 16-Feb-14 12:27:17

LemonBreeland Sun 16-Feb-14 12:35:34

Wow, have just caught up with this again. What a drama. I hope it gets sorted later today without too much drama.

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken Sun 16-Feb-14 12:41:32

these kinds. People literally drove over them if we left them up to keep them off our space. You hit it with a car and it just collapses. People are cunts and if they cant see a bollard how the fuck did they park? And what if there was a kid there?

<remembers how angry I'd get and cries a little>

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken Sun 16-Feb-14 12:41:46
JerseySpud Sun 16-Feb-14 13:29:40

Finally caught up on this.

Now i shall be hanging around all day waiting to see what happens with bin lady!

Fairenuff Sun 16-Feb-14 13:41:44

TidyDancer Sun 16-Feb-14 13:53:25

Oh bugger. Still no update! Get thee home stat!

AcrossthePond55 Sun 16-Feb-14 13:53:49

See, I thought they'd be putting in those steel bollards that retract into the ground & raise up by remote control. No one's backing over those babies!

I'm afraid to google penguin bollards. I'm not sure I want to be followed around by a flock of penguins!

OP did post a pic of her bollards (ahem) earlier

They have quite a large rectangular base (dunno how it's fixed) & then a tall upside-down-U-shaped barrier

I'm guessing it was on the previous thread?

Pheonixisrising Sun 16-Feb-14 13:58:20

I cannot believe that they have the bloody cheek not to move their cars.

how long can they stay there before you can sell them as scrap ???

PSML! An advert for penguin bollards is now appearing in the bottom right of my screen.

Lambzig Sun 16-Feb-14 14:59:28

Am I the only one wondering what on earth shouts man was saying. I can't imagine if he had the letters, etc, that it wasn't clear to him. What a strange person.

I think it will be Monday now.

Mrsdavidcaruso Sun 16-Feb-14 15:03:00

Sorry just got back cars still there and there has been no notes pushed through door so I think we are going to get a couple of early wakeup knocks on the doors on Monday

Morgause Sun 16-Feb-14 15:04:03

Was lunch nice?

TalkieToaster Sun 16-Feb-14 15:09:40

Don't be sorry, you have no obligation to post although please do, or we'll all go nuts wanting to know what happened.

littlepurplealien Sun 16-Feb-14 15:10:04

Wouldn't it be a shame if your dh needs to go to work earlier than the tenants usually depart tomorrow and "inadvertently" take the remote control with him.

Oh what a shame that they'll be late for work because he has to drive back (from round the corner where he has been reading the newspaper waiting for the call from you).

TalkieToaster Sun 16-Feb-14 15:12:00

^ this. This. Please. Please do this.

LadyPenny Sun 16-Feb-14 15:35:06

Love purple aliens idea.

Was just looking out of my top window from where I have a great view of the island. I was thinking of you and wondering if red car woman had been round yet.

hamptoncourt Sun 16-Feb-14 15:38:16

If it were me I would just go out really early and have a lovely day giggling about the locked in cars.

Or stay in with selective deafness. Can't DH park a few streets away tonight and just smuggle himself out quietly in the morning?

GiraffesAndButterflies Sun 16-Feb-14 16:08:17

I'm so glad there's no camera feed of all this. I would waste SO much time watching for bin lady. Has she been round yet?

As it is I'm just occasionally wasting time.

how about now? Any sign?

Mrsdavidcaruso Sun 16-Feb-14 16:11:11

Good news and bad news one of the car owners has just claimed his car and taken it away - thats the good news, bad news is bin ladys car is still there and she has not been to get her car.

However (and this is the good part) the other car owner was one of the nice ones it was just that didn't have chance to move his car on Saturday and he has given us the flat number of bin lady although he does not know her name but at least we can let the letting agent know which flat the car belongs to if she doesn't come and get it.

So things will be happening am now waiting to hear from the planning dept to see if we have to get permission to extend our garden and also
to see if we need permission to put a sun room on the back of the house.

Fairenuff Sun 16-Feb-14 16:12:28

Definitely don't give them the satisfaction of disturbing you early tomorrow morning. Tell them that dh has the control and he will be back after 5pm.

What was shouty man shouting about. Did he try to say that he had a right to park there? confused

msrisotto Sun 16-Feb-14 16:13:27

I don't imagine she'll be leaving the car there forever. It rather defeats the point of owning a car if the parking wars mean you can never use it! I doubt that she'll be reasonable though, unfortunately. If she does get shouty, just refer her back to her landlord.

RandomMess Sun 16-Feb-14 16:18:09

Bin lady is very strange indeed...

SadFreak Sun 16-Feb-14 16:20:57

Yeah I deffo reckon Bin Lady is planning to knock on your door at 6am tomorrow morning in an arsey manner. She is like a spoilt brat - wants the last word.

Joysmum Sun 16-Feb-14 16:27:31

Tomorrow morning is going to be D Day. Fingers crossed that's the last day of it for you Mrsd

TalkinPeace Sun 16-Feb-14 16:28:33

I was inordinately chuffed to find it still here
and that all is still amusing!

Ratbagcatbag Sun 16-Feb-14 16:32:39

Lottiedoubtie Sun 16-Feb-14 16:56:24

I'd put a sign on your door that reads,

'No calls before 7.30am' (or whenever you feel is reasonable) and I wouldn't answer the door before then!

Morgause Sun 16-Feb-14 16:57:26

Sign should read that the door will not be answered between the hours of 8pm and 8am because a child is sleeping.

Fairenuff Sun 16-Feb-14 17:03:04

Or a note to 'The Owner of vehicle registration...' posted to 'The Occupier of flat number...'

'"Dear vehicle owner. Your vehicle is currently parked on private land. To remove it, please contact me. I am available between the hours of x and x. If I do not hear from you I will look into removal by tow truck."

IamtheZombie Sun 16-Feb-14 17:41:42

ButICantaloupe Sun 16-Feb-14 17:48:35

Do you think Bin lady is protesting?

OwlCapone Sun 16-Feb-14 17:52:41

Can you turn Bin lady's car into some kind of water feature in your new garden?

hamptoncourt Sun 16-Feb-14 17:53:26

I don't think bin woman will be swayed by a sign on OPs door sadly. I suspect she has planned all along to wake you at an inappropriate moment.

Seriously if you don't have conclusion by the morning I would be inclined to ask the police for advice. If they could be persuaded to knock on her door and order her to remove her car think how shamefaced she will be.

A letter saying you are going away might nudge it though?

peggyundercrackers Sun 16-Feb-14 17:57:12

im with Hampton - I wouldn't give bin lady the satisfaction of knocking me up early, I would call police tonight and ask them to go to her door to move car because its on private property.

wowfudge Sun 16-Feb-14 17:58:46

Looking forward to finding out what happens with Bin Lady. I hope you have a folder with copies of all your correspondence in it Mrsd. I am wondering if Bin Lady might cause an almighty cafuffle (spelling?) tomorrow morning and ring the police claiming you've kidnapped her car or some such. Oh to be a fly on the wall!

Jacksmania Sun 16-Feb-14 17:59:29

Zombie bollards would definitely make a statement grin

ButICantaloupe Sun 16-Feb-14 18:00:06

If I knew Bin lady's routine, I would be 'out' when I knew she needed to leave.

Knock on Bin Lady's door and ask for her car keys, she has clearly gifted the car to you by parking it on your land and leaving it there. Possession is 9/10 of the law and all that grin

I think I'd go / send dh to knock on her for and ask her to move the car

QOD Sun 16-Feb-14 18:13:17

manticlimactic Sun 16-Feb-14 18:18:13

lastnightIwenttoManderley Sun 16-Feb-14 18:41:23

Zombie you can get some creepy ones that look like small children in a village of the damned way. They put some outside a school in the hope that seeing kids at the side of the road might slow cars down but it just scared the bejesus out of the cars instead...

4PlusMum Sun 16-Feb-14 18:43:49

De-lurking to suggest that your solicitor serves notice under the Torts (Interference With Goods) Act 1977 on Bin Laden. If she doesn't move her car within the period specified in the notice you get to dispose of the car. The other option is to tow the car on to the public highway and leave it there.

Opps...just remembered you're in the IOW so a Torts notice won't work but hopefully there is an Island equivalent. Teach Bin Laden who is boss!

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken Sun 16-Feb-14 18:47:58

IamtheZombie Sun 16-Feb-14 19:03:26

lastnight, Zombie has seen those village of the damned children bollards in RL. They were outside a school on the route to MIL's house in Nottingham. They're even spookier than in the pictures.

Ratbagcatbag Sun 16-Feb-14 19:12:22

I've driven by those a few times zombie, they are a bit creepy, I think it's worse at night. When children should be in bed and they're standing with their big grins just not moving. <shudders>

Clutterbugsmum Sun 16-Feb-14 19:24:54

Bin lady banged on OP's door after bin men left OP's bin in her way to demand that OP move it

OP told her to move the bin herself

She did

4PlusMum Sun 16-Feb-14 19:28:47

Sorry Endo, I'm being a twit! Of course your law is the same. I was thinking Guernsey when I said that.

WeAreDetective Sun 16-Feb-14 19:29:20

Bin lady is so named because she (shouted at) complained to op that her bin was blocking her car in after the bin men had been. She expected op to leave her baby and move it.

This is also with bin lady knowing that she was, in fact, parked on op's land without permission.

So she is rude, illegally parked and apparently not in to remove said illegally parked car.

Due to her rudeness, we are all hoping the car gets pulped.

Debs75 Sun 16-Feb-14 21:59:57

I too am being stalked by penguin bollard adverts. I was looking at train fares earlier and there was an advert. I couldn't stop giggling and DD1 thought I had gone mad

nickymanchester Sun 16-Feb-14 22:13:19

The reason that people are being stalked by penguin adverts is that a lot of websites put cookies on your computer that track what sites you've been viewing and then send you adverts based on those sites.

This is where they track your behaviour and send you adverts based on what they know about the sites that you visit.

If you want them to stop doing it then go here:-

and here:-

and opt out of them tracking you

TalkinPeace Sun 16-Feb-14 22:16:38

AcrossthePond55 Sun 16-Feb-14 23:38:04

My thought is that Bin Lady will pound knock politely on the door tomorrow morning exclaiming that she is late for work and needs her car right away but doesn't have time to 'talk about the situation'. I think she doesn't want to be forced into a conversation in which she may have to apologize for her behaviour.

HellomynameisIcklePickle Sun 16-Feb-14 23:55:02

Still no news?

<shameless place marking>

Mrsdavidcaruso Mon 17-Feb-14 08:19:01

Oh dearie dearie me. Bin lady knocked on the door at 7.30 this morning for her car - but very late last night my BIL had parked his big work van
across her car and we cant seem to get hold of him wink

I wondered what the boys were up to last night

isisisis Mon 17-Feb-14 08:19:45

Rise & shine Bin Lady. Time for work.

wowfudge Mon 17-Feb-14 08:19:49

Will this play out during my journey to work? Hope so - then I can be all up to date before starting work. And Mrsd can get her garden back!

JennyOnAPlate Mon 17-Feb-14 08:20:06

I love your bil a little bit grin

Pimpf Mon 17-Feb-14 08:20:39

Oh dear, what a tricky situation. Any explanation from her as to why she hadn't moved her car off your land when she was asked to? Or any apology for her behaviour?

Piffpaffpoff Mon 17-Feb-14 08:20:50

Is it wrong that I just laughed out loud at the OPs latest update....grin

wowfudge Mon 17-Feb-14 08:21:28

Totally missed the update from the OP. Bliss!

WeAreDetective Mon 17-Feb-14 08:21:50

Shame about the big work van wink. Long long is your BIL planning to be unavailable?

Mrsdavidcaruso Mon 17-Feb-14 08:26:13

I havent spoken to her DH did but there was a bit of shouting - I can see her out the window on her mobile and pacing well at least it's not raining {yet} bit cold though

BIL still not picking up his phone

Cuddlydragon Mon 17-Feb-14 08:26:55

Awwwwwwwwww. I love your BiL. Hope he enjoys his fortnight holiday. Poor bin lady! Hope she was at least polite to you.

polarpercy Mon 17-Feb-14 08:29:42

I was going to say I couldn't believe she would have the cheek to be so far in the wrong and then shout at your DH. But, actually having read all of your posts I can imagine she would have the cheek to shout and believe that she was in the right!

EauRouge Mon 17-Feb-14 08:30:08

Well done, BIL grin

shoom Mon 17-Feb-14 08:30:11

"Oh no, isn't it inconvenient when someone parks where they shouldn't? And then they disappear, ignore notes (with their car reg/flat number on) and can't be found?."

<evil laugh>

PoorOldCat Mon 17-Feb-14 08:31:24

Oh I am starting to feel sorry for bin lady. Not that she doesn't deserve everything she gets but making her late for work seems a bit unkind. You want to hold on to the moral highground really if you can.

PoorOldCat Mon 17-Feb-14 08:32:06

Mind you I object to the fact she left her car there all weekend just because she felt like it.

Is it wrong that my first thought this morning wasn't 'breakfast time, let's feed and clothe my babies' but 'ooh has bin lady come back? Let's hide from babies with my iPad somewhere where no one can find me.'

karatekimmi Mon 17-Feb-14 08:33:25

Yeah!!! I'm sure I'm not the only one who is smiling a bit!!

It would be a shame if your bil goes AWOL for a while!!

oldwomaninashoe Mon 17-Feb-14 08:34:05

Bin Lady is very lucky that you didn't have her car towed away, its what would happen in most big cities.

Joysmum Mon 17-Feb-14 08:34:16

Good, if bin lady had been rude once, then I'd think you were being a bit cruel, but hers has been a campaign and unless she realises you are going to continue to have your chain yanked that campaign will continue.

SuffolkNWhat Mon 17-Feb-14 08:35:06

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Snort at JohnnyDeppsFutureWife grin

Nope, not the only one!

WeAreDetective Mon 17-Feb-14 08:37:01

grin Johnny, you are not alone!

Pooroldcat, I really don't know how much more notice op could have given her! Bit of a risk leaving it until Monday morning really.

limitedperiodonly Mon 17-Feb-14 08:40:09

She's really stupid as well as arrogant.

Fancy leaving your car where it might get accidentally or deliberately blocked in if you need it.

And as for knocking at 7.30am. I was still asleep at 7.30am - just. If she'd knocked she'd have woken me up and I wouldn't have answered until I was up, washed, dressed and fed - so round about now. Except I have to go out too so I don't have time to faff about unlocking bollards for someone who should have come over the weekend.

Hee hee!! She had plenty warning and all weekend to move her car. I don't have one ounce of sympathy for her at all (I may have parking issues at home too!!)

CSIJanner Mon 17-Feb-14 08:42:21

She doesn't have to be late for work - she can call for a taxi. Or take a bus. Or walk. What she shouldn't have done was presumed that the notice to leave and not park on the land didnt apply to her.

Mwah ha ha har!

kelper Mon 17-Feb-14 08:43:59

Yay! I hope your bil has a nice loooooong sleep! She's going to have to walk to work!
This thread is genius!

EauRouge Mon 17-Feb-14 08:44:31

Yes, she's had all weekend and yet she left it and expected to just be able to pick it up when it was convenient for her. If she's that bothered about being late for work then why doesn't she get a taxi?

ThePearShapedToad Mon 17-Feb-14 08:44:46

Well done op!!!

Love your BIL

Clutterbugsmum Mon 17-Feb-14 08:45:57

Hopefully she learnt if you treat people like shit, then oneday someone will do it to you.

I don't feel sorry for her she had loads of notice not to do what she did and ingnored all of it. She assumed that she could do what she liked and I'm taking a wild guess here that the OP are not the only one Bin Lady treats like this.

Lets face shes made herself look like an idiot and everytime she explains what happened and why she late for work normal people will either just think what an idiot or tell her.

OP I hoped you have E mailed the LA to explain what has happened over the weekend with both BIn Lady and SHouty Man.

Chippednailvarnish Mon 17-Feb-14 08:49:03

I'm so invested in this thread [saddo smiley]

Talk about you reap what you sew.

lljkk Mon 17-Feb-14 08:51:25

Squee, we need update.

polarpercy Mon 17-Feb-14 08:54:41

No sympathy here either! She didn't want to trouble herself at the weekend and find new parking, she was happy to cause a massive hassle for Mrsdc. And, now she's decided she wants her car she expects everyone to jump. Might teach her a lesson, ie. that the world doesn't revolve around her!

GemmaTeller Mon 17-Feb-14 08:56:03

omg, my first thought this morning was 'check the bollard thread' grin

JustforMe Mon 17-Feb-14 08:57:20

Waiting for this morning has been the highlight of my weekend lol.

Ha bin lady has gotten what she deserves that'll teach you cant park wherever you like.

Groovee Mon 17-Feb-14 08:59:20

Knew bin lady would wait until 7.30am on Monday morning...

Korora Mon 17-Feb-14 09:02:29

Please, please, please OP. When she finally moves her car, can you chase her and shout....

"Gerr orf my land!'

at the top of your voice. Preferably shaking a stick and wearing tweed while you do it.

Sandiacre Mon 17-Feb-14 09:03:15

I had one of the longest commutes possible across the island for 5 years, 14 miles and yes I did almost end up in the sea.

WeAreDetective Mon 17-Feb-14 09:04:46

grin I know it's note possible but never have I wanted photos/video clips more!!

And IOW just came up on the news, I actually (momentarily) looked for penguins

MidniteScribbler Mon 17-Feb-14 09:05:07

What's happening, what's happening, what's happening????

::bounces slightly::

JustforMe Mon 17-Feb-14 09:06:11

Oh yes Korora that would be hilarious.

Yes Groovee I knew that she would too thinking she would irate OP and has ended up screwing herself.

Tailtwister Mon 17-Feb-14 09:06:40

What an idiot waiting until Monday morning! Is she still there? Has the van moved yet?

PoorOldCat Mon 17-Feb-14 09:07:06

I know, I know. I just think one shouldn't try and do payback deliberately iyswim? If it happens by mistake then fair dos but I don't think it's right to start playing games in return.

If that makes any sense.

Pipbin Mon 17-Feb-14 09:07:35

The arrogance of her is shocking. She knew that she was going to need to move her car on Saturday. She has had plenty of notice to find somewhere else to park.
It could be said that BIL blocking her in and then going missing is rather akin to bear baiting but it does serve her right. I wonder what excuse she will give to work for being late?

Euphemia Mon 17-Feb-14 09:10:42

Your BIL is King of Wight! What a hero. This is the Mother of all Parking Wars. smile

Victrix Mon 17-Feb-14 09:14:35

Delurking to cheer on the OP and be grateful I have a day off today so I can watch

ThedementedPenguin Mon 17-Feb-14 09:15:41

This has been fantastic. Your Dh and BIL are geniuses.

Has she left yet or still pacing?

JustforMe Mon 17-Feb-14 09:16:26

Yes update needed im twitching in my seat.

lollilou Mon 17-Feb-14 09:16:44

As a fellow Isle of Wighter (albeit right across the other side from you op) I've been following this thread with interest.
Sounds like you're nearly there op, good luck with bin lady!

SerotoninCanEatTomorrow Mon 17-Feb-14 09:17:26

Am so pleased BinLady has had her comeuppance smile this has made my morning grin

Lj8893 Mon 17-Feb-14 09:19:45

What a fool bin lady is!!

If someone had knocked my door at 7.30am, thru wouldn't have got an answer, we were all fast asleep!

Picturesinthefirelight Mon 17-Feb-14 09:22:43

First thing I did when I got to work this morning was check whether Bin Lady had been round

Ha to her!

Morgause Mon 17-Feb-14 09:26:51

Karma is all.

brew for anyone who didn't have time to make one before logging in.

and cake because it's cake

JustforMe Mon 17-Feb-14 09:28:43

thanks for the brew and cake I needed that grin

hamptoncourt Mon 17-Feb-14 09:30:28

I don't think I am actually going to go to work today..............

Ellellie Mon 17-Feb-14 09:32:03

Been reading the threads since the start and am delurking to say Bravo op!

BubbyBum Mon 17-Feb-14 09:38:02

I am a chronic lurker, but I've just had to post and say that I love this thread, and I think I love you, your dh, and your bil because you're all full of awesomeness.

onedev Mon 17-Feb-14 09:43:17

Yeah for the update! I wouldn't move anything until next weekend give her attitude!

I'm jonesing for another update here too

HungryHorace Mon 17-Feb-14 09:45:52

Is anybody else waiting for the AIBU from Bin Lady about it?!

Why would you leave fetching your car until you need it? Got her comeuppance there!

ISeeYouShiverWithAntici Mon 17-Feb-14 09:49:00

Won't you get into trouble for having someone's car trapped?

Yes, I know she deserves it grin but is there any come back on your brother in law for having his van blocking someone getting their car? He isn't going to get a ticket or anything?

Arkina Mon 17-Feb-14 09:50:49

BIL has parked on private property with owners permission. No laws being broken there to warrant ticketing

drspouse Mon 17-Feb-14 09:52:35

It's on her land shiver and Bin Lady has parked on her land despite being told that it was her land and that there was a deadline for removing the car.

polarpercy Mon 17-Feb-14 09:52:41

To be fair Bin Lady has also had a huge amount of notice. She is the one who chose to park illegally and to miss the deadlines because they didn't suit her. I would normally have sympathy but I hate rude people!

This thread is riveting. No sympathy for Binlady at all. She has behaved like a brat and is getting treated appropriately. Maybe in future she will be less entitled. grin

sebsmummy1 Mon 17-Feb-14 09:54:56

They can't get hold of BIL so what's OP meant to do? I'm sure if his can wasn't there OP would have used her zapping device and bin lady would have got her car.

Will be interesting to see where they park their cars now and whether this has just started WW3.

Pipbin Mon 17-Feb-14 09:57:13

There must be an update soon. If she knocked at 7.30 something must have happened by now.

Quinteszilla Mon 17-Feb-14 09:58:03

"Won't you get into trouble for having someone's car trapped?"

But her car is trapped while trespassing on somebody elses property though.

(I should think that BILs uncle is the local Sheriff here.... grin )

But I am a bit scared that you lot have resurrected Bin Laden!

RandomMess Mon 17-Feb-14 09:58:18

Her arrogance levels are unbelievable!

AntlersInAllOfMyDecorating Mon 17-Feb-14 09:58:49

This is (car parking) space, the final frontier ...

Is it wrong to imagine bin lady waking up this morning all smug, point made etc... Looks out the window...oh dear!

KayleeFrye Mon 17-Feb-14 09:59:38

bravo OP and thank you for the best thread ever.

While we await final news of BL's eventual getting her car back, has everyone nominated this thread (and thread 1 of course) for being moved to Classics?

Anyone else concerned?

Hope all is ok MrsD

4PlusMum Mon 17-Feb-14 10:01:31

I think the OP would be doing the Island a huge public service by printing out all 3 threads and posting them through Bin Laden's letterbox. She won't change her selfish, entitled behaviour until she knows how the rest of the world Mumsnet views her.

RandomMess Mon 17-Feb-14 10:01:35

Presumably bin lady had to go to work some other way!

ISeeYouShiverWithAntici Mon 17-Feb-14 10:02:17

ah, thanks. I don't know what the law/rules are about someone being blocked in even on private land - eg similar to clamping someone, or otherwise denying exit, iyswim.

I am not defending bin lady. I think she has been stubborn to the point of lunacy on this, and certainly taking out her anger on the wrong people! It is her landlord to blame and to him she should be directing anger, but I wonder if she knows he would simply serve notice? Anyway, that's neither here nor there.

I am more concerned that there should be no opportunity for her to feel as though she had had any sort of victory if she were able to call the police and force action to release her car.

I also wasn't sure whether the OP actually has no way of contacting the bil or whether she was just toying with the angry woman. oh dearie dearie me and a wink would suggest to me that this blocking in was planned.

The best outcome is to simply wave her off and lock the bollard into place and know that she is never going to be able to park there again.

Rowgtfc72 Mon 17-Feb-14 10:05:22

Have just logged onto my mapometer page and lo and. Behold at the bottom of the page is an add for a concrete penguin !

ZenNudist Mon 17-Feb-14 10:05:37

She probably thought she was being clever, 'ha I'll wake them up early'... So rude. It's not like she'd leave her car in a private car park where she could get ticketed or clamped. Why do it on your property??!

JustforMe Mon 17-Feb-14 10:05:38

Any updates OP??

polarpercy Mon 17-Feb-14 10:07:11

Is anyone else wondering, if she genuinely needs her car for work, how she is explaining this situation to her boss!? 'Sorry I'm going to be late, why?, well I parked my car somewhere I shouldn't and now it's sort of stuck'

BlackeyedSusan Mon 17-Feb-14 10:09:12

lucky posters who had nothing else to think about. i was woken by neighbour man shouting and swearing outside, was just tut-tutting to myself nd hoiking judgy pants when shortly afterward was more very loud shouting...from the living room. blush

i have had to rescue dd from being locked in the play den by ds, and stop the shouting over who lost the key for the dvd cupboard nd ho s lying or not lying....

all is peaceful now ds has been fed.

what a relief that I can now check for binlady antics.

ForgetMeKnots Mon 17-Feb-14 10:10:58

O'Saga bin Laden with a sticky situation.

JustforMe Mon 17-Feb-14 10:11:29

Ha well my 2 are at nursery today and no university for me this morning so I had plenty time to chill and check on bin lady lol.

wowfudge Mon 17-Feb-14 10:16:06

Isee - I don't mind the OP toying with Bin Lady over getting her car out. Let's face it, Bin Lady has toyed with Mrsd over parking on her land. BL thought she could call the OP's bluff....and see where it got her. Arrogant, rude, shameless parking whore!

And I am at work, and should be working; gulp.

Anyone on IOW who works with a woman who is late today?

wowfudge Mon 17-Feb-14 10:18:09

If you do, tell us who she is!

TensionWheelsCoolHeels Mon 17-Feb-14 10:23:22

I think now is a good time to mark my place for the next instalment.

De-lurking to congratulate MrsDavid on hopefully having the last laugh in this sorry tale (where 'sorry'=really fun for the casual MN observer!).

Are you going to write this all up with pictures and make a small fortune like that 'Parenting with Cr*ppy Pictures' book? I'd buy it for my DH!

You might as well make back the cost of the bollards, right?

PoorOldCat Mon 17-Feb-14 10:36:38

The thing is though, presumably bin lady is still paying for the 'right' to park there, which does make me feel sorry for her as her landlord is a twat.

Mrsdavidcaruso Mon 17-Feb-14 10:36:51

Sorry got to post and run bin lady left at 8.30 sans car we had a call form the letting agency she has been on the phone to them all morning.

They have told her that due to the fact that her (and the others) rents were reduced from 1st Feb due to there being no off road parking, she should not have had her car there anyway as all tenants were told to remove their cars before 15th Feb so is in breach of her tenancy agreement by still parking there this morning.

That saying he has asked that she is able to move her car after 5.30 today - thats fine BIL has just picked up his van and DH now work from home. DH has forbidden me to speak to her as my Blood pressure is already sky high
