To gloat at hubby breaking dry January already whilst I remain virtuous and thus deserve a medal

..he he he !! Normally I drink more than him blush so would normally expect me to cave first but no...we went out for lunch today and he had a couple of pints! This is light hearted .we like a bit of competition and the stick I would have got if it was the other way round!!! Anyhoo..I'm off to collect my medal now

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 05-Jan-14 20:41:18

Yanbu, celebrate with a wine , you can now with no ribbing grin

WilsonFrickett Sun 05-Jan-14 20:45:28

He's probably celebrating my birthday. Dry January cannot start till after today!

VoteYes Sun 05-Jan-14 20:52:35

YANBU although I may be joining your husband soon in the epic failing stakes

BananaNotPeelingWell Sun 05-Jan-14 20:56:29

I was thinking about this today. It's such an awful time of year to be trying to do without anything and resolving to change. Especially when there are still so many goodies kicking about the house. <no willpowerblush>

FuckyNell Sun 05-Jan-14 20:59:13

Happy birthday wilson

I agree Banana it's ridiculous to try and be good at this time of year when it's cold and miserable - all I want to do is comfort eat and drink gin

Dry April it is.

mrspremise Sun 05-Jan-14 21:00:07

--dry january is a dick--grin

HoneyDragon Sun 05-Jan-14 21:01:15

I stopped once for January,

Then when I made it till the end of January I decided to try a year.

I still haven't had a drink, and that was 5 years ago.

Dh is still a bit confused, as is everyone else who knows me grin

Oh bollocks - I forgot I was doing dry January!

I've just poured 3 inches of port to watch Sherlock with!

Fuck me, what a twonk I am

MooMa1d Sun 05-Jan-14 21:05:33

Ha ha ha Laurie made me LOL

Bodypopper Sun 05-Jan-14 21:06:40

I lasted until jan 3rd and dh broke after my second glass.grin

We are hopeless but it's cold and vile.

Bodypopper Sun 05-Jan-14 21:07:50

StupidMistakes Sun 05-Jan-14 21:12:41

I haven't had a drink since new years eve and my last one was at midnight, we had two wkd's each and despite being in a club spent the rest of the night on coke <pats herself on back at not yet being tempted> I don't doubt I can manage another two weeks easily <cos im skint to then>

echt Sun 05-Jan-14 21:18:02

I'm going for no alcohol except for Fri-Sun as a way into drinking less. God, it sounds like I get wellied every night of the week, but you know what I mean.

Also DID paint garage door as new year's resolution.

flipchart Sun 05-Jan-14 21:23:43

I keep hearing from my friends that they haven't touched any alcohol in January and they are not going to. All of them have had an epic fail as they had drinks in their hands way after the final chimes of midnight.

I started dry January on the 2nd because Hogmany lasts an extra day in Scotland wink

Primadonnagirl Sun 05-Jan-14 21:59:56

I'm no carbing too and TBH would have a toasted bagel over a wine though right now!

Bodypopper Sun 05-Jan-14 22:13:21

echt yes we are doing the same. No drink mon to thurs definatly. Absolutely definatly.

dementedma Sun 05-Jan-14 22:17:43

Still going strong-ish here.Last drink at 9.30 on Dec 31st. Have lost a pound already in weight and saved several pounds in money!

WilsonFrickett Sun 05-Jan-14 22:38:02

Aw thanks for birthday wishes. I'm going to have one last Baileys then switch to weekend only drinking for January. I think it's such a shitty month to go dry. Good luck to everyone who is giving it a go!

Bettercallsaul1 Mon 06-Jan-14 08:45:32

Oh no, no dry January for me! I need all the help I can get to get me through this dark, freezing penniless month!

Bettercallsaul1 Mon 06-Jan-14 08:47:03

At least you've got a birthday to cheer you up, Wilson!

Bowlersarm Mon 06-Jan-14 08:50:37

Going strong here too. Last drink finished 10pm 31st December. Dh isn't doing it so quite tempting to give in, but won't be caving in yet.

Pigsmummy Mon 06-Jan-14 11:24:15

A load of people in my social circle made a huge deal about giving up for January, creating websites for charity donations etc only to fail very publicly and have people posting photos of them drunk on Facebook on January 4th!

I wouldn't get involved as my birthday is January and loads of my friends have birthdays this month, also if I give up for a while I wouldn't shout about it to prevent the drink pushers giving me a hard time. (smug?)

Happy Birthday Wilson!! Capricorns rock xx

brainwashed Mon 06-Jan-14 11:59:44

The patronising radio adverts for dryathlon may have put me off doing it....if I had been seriously considering it that is!

ApprenticeViper Mon 06-Jan-14 12:07:10

My last drink was at about 1am on New Year's Day, so I'm intending to not have another drink until 2 February to make it a whole month. I usually manage two days a week without any alcohol, even if on the other days it's only one glass of wine or one large vodka.

DP thinks I've been abducted by aliens, or cloned grin

I wish the Smirnoff in the kitchen would stop shouting for me at 7pm each evening

IceBeing Mon 06-Jan-14 12:38:25

I forgot to drink over xmas and new year....does that mean I can catch up in January?

5Foot5 Mon 06-Jan-14 12:52:30

January is an awful time to try it.

I am tempted to follow the Australian idea of a dry February instead. Why February? It is only 28 days grin

WilsonFrickett Mon 06-Jan-14 13:23:25

Pigs I know lots of Caps too so there's no way I could go dry in Jan. Shame, eh? grin

I'm going dry and I'm a January birthday. I'm quite curmudgeonly about my birthday because I always get shit presents (or nothing, which is what my parents gave me for my fortieth) and no one wants to go out. So I might sulk and drink herbal tea and suck a lemon.

KareKare Mon 06-Jan-14 20:44:44

I am finding it surprisingly easy, if a bit dull.

I just love sharing a bottle with dh & having a great chat or knowing there's an icy cold glass of Sauvignon waiting for me downstairs for after my bath. I realise I am pining, not for wine but for what goes with it in my mind.

I think I could keep doing no booze after January, but I really don't want to.

It will be lent before we know it, I always give up booze for that too - 6 flipping weeks!

Should I name-change for January? wink
