Net Huns?

No I can't give specifics and I'd bloody love a biscuit but recently things have changed and gone a tad 'generic parenting site'.

Shoot me if I'm wrong...

PedlarsSpanner Thu 02-Jan-14 22:55:33

Net Huns nooooo would rather eat my own dc smile

FadBook Thu 02-Jan-14 22:59:04

I've seen a few more 'xx' after posts but normally it is genuine sympathy to the OP

What else do generic sites do? Haven't seen any tickers for baby arriving or sprinkling of fairy dust yet....

LedareAnsley Thu 02-Jan-14 22:59:31

<turns rifle away from OP> hmm

ShreddedHoops Thu 02-Jan-14 22:59:59

Oh FGS, it's the season for 'MN has gone to the dogs, not like it was in the good old days' threads. Yet again, ad infinitum. Have your biscuit and find somewhere you like or stop moaning.

FadBook Thu 02-Jan-14 23:00:19

<waves magic wand to pour a g&t>

Nope its still mumsnet, if it wasn't I wouldn't have been able to post the word fuck.

See I did it again grin

Upyourbumscum Thu 02-Jan-14 23:04:12

Feeling better after some biscuits and the odd 'fuck' thrown in. Maybe it's me...

SpikeyTree Thu 02-Jan-14 23:05:33

I've been on here a fair few years under several names and I think the first ever thread I read was a 'MN has gone to the dogs' thread. I'm surprised said dogs haven't eaten it by now.

AuntieStella Thu 02-Jan-14 23:08:20

Remember it's the school holidays.

It's always weird in the school holidays.

Upyourbumscum Thu 02-Jan-14 23:10:58

Thinking about tickers now, MN specific. They wouldn't be 2 months 3 days and 4 hours till my little princess arrives more 3 days 7 hours since I last sneezed without pissing myself. Could take off?

SpikeyTree Thu 02-Jan-14 23:16:08

AuntieStella, us teachers have to have some fun you know.

navada Thu 02-Jan-14 23:18:22

With a name like 'up your bum scum' you wouldn't be welcome on netmums, they're quite genteel over there. :-)

sparklysilversequins Thu 02-Jan-14 23:19:04

You are not wrong.

AuntieStella Thu 02-Jan-14 23:25:04

SpikeyTree fgrin

I can never really tell, when people post stuff like this I always wonder what I have missed?
<shrug> seems the same to me.
Oh, except the weird 'I shagged all my sons rugby team'. That was a bit hmm

I have seen a few instances of 'hun' recently and tbh I was so [shocked] it was like someone had shat on the thread.

MrGeresHamster Thu 02-Jan-14 23:35:37

Fuck, fuck, fuck and fuck.

With proper grammar too.

You see, not Net thuns.

Grr shock

Piscivorus Thu 02-Jan-14 23:39:41

I have been here for years under different names and MN has gone through regular phases of wailing "It's gone weird" or "It's not what it used to be"

HOMEQCRICH Fri 03-Jan-14 00:04:27

Oh damn sp it was netmums I was told about! Ah feck it I am here now!

HOMEQCRICH Fri 03-Jan-14 00:04:51

So not sp!

Lovecat Fri 03-Jan-14 00:05:08

Given that there's a thread currently running where people are being remarkably chippy and calling posters snobs and pedants for caring about correct spelling and grammar, I'd say the OP has a point. When I joined MN (back when it was all fields), the lack of textspeak and standard of writing we're things I really appreciated. Now it seems I'm an insulting snob for caring about such things... confused

Lovecat Fri 03-Jan-14 00:06:28

And of course the arseing kindle has thrown a typo in that post... blush

FeijoaVodkaIsThirstyForVodka Fri 03-Jan-14 00:43:35

Does that magic wand do vodka too?

FeijoaVodkaIsThirstyForVodka Fri 03-Jan-14 00:45:16

bwah ha ha Lovecat. grin

loveolives Fri 03-Jan-14 00:46:29

Not that I've noticed. I'm certainly not like that. Want it sugar coated? Go to Willy Wonka!

People have definitely got rather pissy recently though.

DramaAlpaca Fri 03-Jan-14 00:51:04

No, you're not wrong. A lot more xxx and lols around these days.

loveolives Fri 03-Jan-14 00:52:55

I saw 'ppl' earlier shock

JungleHumps Fri 03-Jan-14 00:59:20

Nothing wrong with ppl - that's from business. <knows>

Peeps on the other hand...

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 01:03:54

Scottishmummy will be along in a minute I predict

YankNCock Fri 03-Jan-14 01:31:15

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Ohbyethen Fri 03-Jan-14 01:42:47

I'm currently experiencing the best of MN. Posters giving me their time, advice and support. I'm not being given shit but I'm still being given straight talking and not being patted on the head and told to go and be a good wimmenz.
Recently there have been more hun and lolz threads, but it does go in a cycle as those posters either settle in and pick up our habits or find they don't like straight talking and find advice is actually advice instead of 'everyone agree with me'. AIBU and chat seem to be most affected by this (FWR always gets shit unfortunately) while other topics do tend to maintain the status quo. Relationships can be helpful in deciding if it is a NM or MRA invasion depending on the amount of general misogyny or surrendered wife crap gets trotted out I've found.
But it's the internet, as with all things YMMV.
Even at it's worst I still much prefer here to elsewhere.

MardyBra Fri 03-Jan-14 01:43:11

I don't think it's just beakergate. I saw an interview with Justine recently where it was stated that MN has doubled its traffic figures in the last year. We are being diluted.

TheBigJessie Fri 03-Jan-14 02:07:07

Well, on the one hand, yes I do think Mumsnet has got worse, but on the other hand, I think that my perception may be based on absolute candyfloss. Human beings have an inbuilt nostalgia mode in their brains. Every single forum I've ever joined had threads like this after a couple of years. Even Socrates complained that children didn't respect their parents any more, circa 2000 years ago!

I have decided the only thing to do is to get a research grant, set up a forum, and analyse the posts as the years pass, to see of degradation occurs. Unfortunately, this is too much effort for me.

So until someone else does that for me, you are so right, OP! [shakes stick]

Dinnaeknowshitfromclay Fri 03-Jan-14 02:12:19

So if I want to move to Netmums but they are posh, can I still say fuck if I spell it the posh way (phuque)?

Tonandfeather Fri 03-Jan-14 02:21:43

I'm surprised to see how many predictive text errors there are and every 5th post appears to be "damned phone". I can't understand some posts as a result, so I give up. That's bad communication. I hate text speak almost as much as I hate over sentimentality.

I'm surprised at how appallingly some men behave and how much people excuse it. As though having a penis renders someone incapable of cleaning a toilet or ironing clothes. But entitles them to go to sex joints, for some reason.

TheBigJessie Fri 03-Jan-14 02:23:49

I thought the posh way was Farquhar. Or is that for fucker?

HoHoHopelessAtNamingBabies Fri 03-Jan-14 07:02:23

I have just seen a post with a genuine 'aww hun xxx'.

I has to quickly leap over to AIBU to cleanse.

meditrina Fri 03-Jan-14 07:10:07

Yes, I've seen hun, far, far too many lols, hubbies, bubs, (lighthearted), and OMG.

I'm just hoping it will go away.

I'm fucked off seeing lol in posts and there's been a couple of hubby sightings.

I've never neen a nethun lurker, it's headache inducing.

I had a proper snigger after Juliegate , one idiot poster said MN was elitist!

grin As If!!

HRHLadyFarquhar Fri 03-Jan-14 10:14:28

In colloquial usage (i.e. Facebook) I realised (after some confusion and a few awkward conversations)that many of my female friends and acquaintances used "hubby" to mean "boyfriend of a few weeks or more". Possibly to make their relationship sound more significant than "boyfriend/partner" do.

I don't know how widespread this is, or whether it's a strictly local thing, but now, when I see "my hubby" I don't assume the poster is married.

Tonandfeather Fri 03-Jan-14 13:53:10

one of the things that attracted me to this place was the apparent absence of the vile, scratch down the blackboard word "hubby".

Now I keep seeing it. I am in pain.

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 14:29:40

I have said LOL..put a X ..given hugs and made predictive text errors.

Am i banished?

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 14:30:23

Have also said OMG and maybe hubby <hangs head>

MrsSteptoe Fri 03-Jan-14 14:50:10

Lack of punctuation causes me far more problems in reading posts than text speak, which is often (not always) perfectly clear and sometimes quite inventive. Hun, hubby and bubs are all pretty fucking awful, but I reserve the right to put xxs at the end of a post as an alternative to the collection of smilies, which can be no less fucking annoying IMO. If I never see another sceptical smiley, it'll be too soon.

However, you ladies, since some of you are clearly veterans, can probably clear something up for me. My DH was weeping with laughter when I read out a thread about annoying literary characters the other night and after all the Fanny Prices, Beth in Little Women etc., we got to the frankly untoppable "Rabbit in Winnie the Pooh. What a cunt." Would this ever appear in Netmums?

ViviPru Fri 03-Jan-14 15:05:00

I'm quite partial to an 'actual LOLZ' but using 'lol' to pepper sentences, almost as another form of punctuation, gives me the fair rage.

I'm very particular.

Joysmum Fri 03-Jan-14 15:12:16

Shall immediately cease and desist with the xx blush and immediately increase my swearing in order to fit in better grin

CosyTeaBags Fri 03-Jan-14 15:15:51

Rabbit in Winnie the Pooh. What a cunt I actually, genuinely did LOL there... <sorry!>

I'm guilty of Xx but only when the OP genuinely deserves one, or when I'm particularly grateful for some advice. It's just quick and easy to type..

I definitely think that the MN 'way' of writing, what is acceptable, what isn't etc rubs off - so whoever said above that once the new influx settles in they will either 'adopt the MN style' or fuck off was right.

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 15:25:57

MrsS. .strewth no.

MrsSteptoe Fri 03-Jan-14 15:26:20

Then this is the place for me. Thanks, Fanjo.

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 15:26:42

OmG I use smileys too blush

MrsSteptoe Fri 03-Jan-14 15:27:12

Fanjo See your smiley and raise you a xx

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 15:27:19

Or maybe not MrsS grin I just blew it

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 15:28:02

OK hun you shd totes stay xx

MrsSteptoe Fri 03-Jan-14 15:29:39

LOL Your acerbic sense of humour amuses me. You have met with my virtual approval in this fleeting e-moment.

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 15:47:00

Oh thanks for your approval. I feel validated now hmm

<channels MN viperishness>

MrsSteptoe Fri 03-Jan-14 15:54:51

Love MN's viperishness. Ambition to crawl into nest but it would backfire on me. Haven't got a thick enough skin.

I love a smiley! wink

FanjoForTheMammaries Fri 03-Jan-14 16:15:24

Post in aiBU and you will be flamed so much your hide will thicken like rhino.

I also lol & use smileys though I balance this out with a lot of fucks & cunts so think I'm ok... wink

Go on, someone start an AIBU .

What's wrong with lol and Hun, someone will bite grin

happygirl87 Fri 03-Jan-14 16:30:12

Saw a thread on a similar note a while ago, and can't remember the exact wording of a post I loved, but the gist was- as long as it is more acceptable to say "cunt" than "hubby" we are on the right site.

peacefuleasyfeeling Fri 03-Jan-14 16:30:33

I love MN because the majority of posters do use punctuation, structured sentences and correct spelling in the main. I'd never pick someone up on their spelling or grammar (it's not my first language so wouldn't be wise) but it's just easier on the eye. Sentiment and delivery -bingo!

Heartbrokenmum73 Fri 03-Jan-14 17:39:09

I've noticed a few more 'OMG's' creeping in lately.

And there was a thread where someone kept referring to her 'LO (Little One) and everyone said 'why the fuck do you keep saying LO, this isn't NetHuns'.

Having had a vair recent gander over at the dark side I can say, hand on heart, that I will leave if this place ever becomes like that. It's like a little girls designed that site - all pastel colours and cute little stick-man drawings. Eurgh.

I doubt very much that in their discussions of this week's Sherlock, the lead actor was referred to as Benedict Cuminmysnatch grin

everlong Fri 03-Jan-14 17:43:57

It's not gone Nuthuns just plain old weird.

It has changed. Lots of my favourite posters have gone, plus it's very agitated and frosty.

sittingbythefairylights Fri 03-Jan-14 17:50:16

I actually thought something had occurred on netmums and a new wave of netmummers had migrated over.

Netmummers - is that even a word?
